Hi All!
Let's say I would like ( or rather I'm forced to ) build a customized Android ROM. Among all related things that are well described there is a one "black hole" to me..
I need to replace Android Market with a custom market application and block unknown sources setting ( to always disabled ). Root access must also be disabled.
For me it seems that not having root access along with Unknown Sources disabled excludes writing a custom market application, because as far as i know custom market app will need to invoke Package Installer.
Did anyone came across such problem ?
For now i only need to estimate the complexity of this task so i would appreciate ANY clues on this one..
regards
Also interested in the solution, have a similar problem.
First, you should leave Unknown sources always on enabled. If you're worried that you might suck in a malware app, install an antivirus.
Second, I installed several custom ROMs so far, and the only problem I noticed with market is that it does not show the phone model (GT-i5800) anymore, but just "phone". Other than that, apps install fine, payed apps can be purchased and this is the stock Vending.apk, not modded.
Third, don't even consider not rooting your phone if you make a custom ROM (even this sentence is a contradicition...), coz if you don't have root, you can't dump the factoryfs.rfs, making it impossible to create a Custom ROM in layman's terms...
Got any questions, just ask!
Hello Guys,
So i'm new to Oppo, but an old wolf within these corridors.
I have some questions for you crazy people who bought the Chinese DUAL sim version of the Oppo Find X2 Pro.
I went through all the threads, read them and there are some inconsistent answers. So i will post my questions (feel free to ask me to add more) and will update the orginal post with the answers you will give me - so this helps new comers.
1. Does Google Playstore work?
-Confirmed working
2. Does Google Pay work?
-Confirmed working
3. Does Google assistant work?
-Apparently yes, but the "Hey Google" voice detection apparently is grayed out and doesn't work (Need more confirmation on this also)
- Works with issues or extra application
4. Do Gsuite applications work?
-Normally they should as Oppo is not blacklisted like Huawei and runs GMS. But could someone confirm please.
5. Do third party launchers work (without ADBing "pm" the orignal launcher) ?
- NEED CONFIRMATION - but apparently not
- Confirmed not working
6. Does 5G / 4G work?
Apparently a forum member living in Italy says it works fine, but found that some 5G bands are not present in the Chinese version. Please reply yes or no and on which carrier you are and which country.
- NEED MORE CONFIRMATIONS
7. Does WifiCalling and / or VoLTE work? And if they do /don't please write down your carrier/country
-NEED CONFIRMATION
8. Can you force install the Global ROM onto the Chinese Phone (important point here)?
-Still waiting to see if that is possible. Waiting to get confirmation from people who tried / succeeded / failed please
- Waiting on results
9. Can you unlock bootloader and install TWRP.
-Only answers i could find were : yes and no, bootloader not yet unlockable, TWRP working... very confusing.
9. Apparently you can't use an app like Textra or other to replace the Stock SMS app (who uses SMS anyhow, right? but still an interesting point).
-Anyone?
10. Looking for tutorials on how to use MEMStool, QPST, etc... anyone know of any so i can link them here? Coming from Samsung, Oneplus, etc could be handy
- Anyone?
11- Autostart of more than 5 untrusted applications? asked by @yarik88
Has anyone won this limitation? This is very important, as it affects notifications from third-party applications. And without autorun, calls are not accepted in some messengers that are not indicated by Oppo as trusted.
You can give permission to the application to autostart related applications, therefore, perhaps there is a program (something like an autostart manager) giving it the right to autostart, it will already launch the application that you specify in it. But so far I have not found one and these are my assumptions
12. Anything else?
Thanks for your feedback and help.
I can come back to you on the other questions for but for now I bought mine from Wonda. Google Play was pre installed and works fine (I had a P40 Pro before so I know about Play Store not working fully!)
Google Pay works without issue. The app is stable and have used all my cards to pay using NFC.
Google assistant works once when you set it up, then it takes itself out of settings. I use the Google Voice Search app instead (I only use mine to set timers etc). All my other Google apps work fine, maps gmail etc.
4G works fine, I have the option for 5G in the menu but don't have a 5G sim to test. No option in the menu for VoLTE/WIFI calling it seems.
Flashing Global ROM needs more testers
8. Can you force install the Global ROM onto the Chinese Phone (important point here)?
All attempts to flash the Global (CPH) software on a Chinese (PDEM) phone were unsuccessful so far, however, it seems that all these people (claiming a failure while flashing) are members of the Beta program.
My friend with an Oneplus phone reports the same behaviour (the phone just won't let you flash an older firmware), furthermore, one Beta user here reported that now he can not even flash the original PDEM software while getting the same error message (The installed version is lower than current).
tl;dr
So there is a solid chance that all of this has nothing to do with Global/Chinese ROM, we just need users who AREN'T in the Beta program to test the ROM.
Global ROM (UK version), 12th May 2020, 3 597 MB, CPH2025_11_A.18: https://oppo-uk.custhelp.com/app/software_update_detail/p_name/Find+X2+Pro/session/
The same ROM decrypted from .ozip to .zip for those who want to play with it: https://1drv.ms/u/s!AjPo24k0toyl0VJOap14txM-W3Nl?e=ePbq9I
While I've got you here, can you please see if you can install Nova launcher or lawn chair... Just to see if third party launchers work.
Thanks!!!

I think the same with all Chinese rom phones, there isn't an option to set another launcher. Yes you can download them and they appear but once you close an app it reverts back to stock. Just tried and no it doesn't set as home launcher (Lawnchair 2 anyway).
SO only way is to adb and uninstall the orginal launcher...thanks for confirming.

Just a last question, are you willing to test the global ROM on your phone for the community? As all whom tested it , were trying on beta program and couldn't make it happen as stated by Killer007 above.

Blazingly fast phone, with almost unlimited RAM... and they limit autostart to 5.
Bizarre (theres that buzzword again!)
I don't get this thing of autostart... Are you telling me that this phone with 12gb of ram...limits 5 applications? Meaning if you have mail, WhatsApp, telegram, calendar , or other apps you need notifications for you are limited to 5 apps max??!!?
Please elaborate...I'm having a hard time believing this. Seems worst than Huawei's app killer...

ItsIt's very similar to this.
This is Oppo's worst idea. I don't understand how they think in China, forbidding the user to use his phone. Just the thought that there are so many ad notifications from apps to take this step.
You have the "Manage autorun" setting in it on top of the list of trusted applications from installed (I have Instagramm, Skype, Telegramm, Whatsapp, Vk, Facebook) I think there are more, but here OPPO decides which applications to consider trusted.
Apps from this list do not affect the 5 apps limit.
And below is a list of all the other apps installed on your phone. And you can select Only 5 applications that have been autorun.
Notifications from applications that don't have autorun permission come in very badly, usually only when you start the application itself. But sometimes they break through, too, but not always.
For example, a SIGNAL messenger without autorun does not receive call notifications and becomes useless, you can get within an hour notifications that you missed a call.

Now that's devastating to hear. Considering previously mentioned cases it should have allowed you to flash it... I'm speechless and saddened.
May I at least, out of pure misery, ask you which tool did you use to flash the ROM?
That's nuts....

On a side note, I went to a local store to.see the single SIM version, and we looked inside...and there were connectors for 2 SIM cards...so my question now is : if we hack the card, and able to put two sims inside...is there a way to change the system for it to work with 2 Sims...

I tried via recovery the last time using the official EU rom version from oppo's site... I will try these when I get home after work. I believe MSM tool might be the correct route to use from other posts in different threads. :good:

Thank you for your hard work! You deserve some sort of donation at this point.
To save your time, avoid the latest (4th) method (QPST) - files the application requires for flashing are not located in the Oppo's Global ROM.

I guess a lot of people are waiting on you :fingers-crossed:
Great job for the community. fingers, toes , everything crossed to see if it works.
BUT i still beleive that there is a way to hack the dual sim for single sim international phones, which in a way would be much better.
Hi xda community,i got several questions about xiaomi MIUI, updates, cloud.... Please accept myappologies for my newbie question on xiaomi phones, and english is not my native language. sry for that.
I've block the "searching" updates with 4G but couldn't with wifi, never used wifi since several month (just my personnal usage),and yesterday had to use wifi cause had less connection with 4g. My phone is on global rom 12.0.4.0 QJKMIXM, works flawlessly, did some tweaks with adb shellto remove services i don't use or removed (different things like blocking adds...), rom is stock, bootloader is stock, no unlock...
So yesterday i received notifications for update MIUI version to 12.2.5 and notifications updates for applications systeme like carrousel.... Since month i read here and on xiaomi community people receive uptades for android 11 and got troubles, or xiaomi removed options on last MIUI so i decided to wait for a "REAL STABLE" update... I know xiaomi release updates calling them stable, but they 'r in Beta, just a nonsense in my opinion.
My several questions about :
1- Xiaomi cloud : I don't know the xiaomi cloud, does it give you a 100 % backup ? (games progress, preference on the system, contacts, pics, video..) Does it connect to the play store and download applications, games (so with new updates) or does the cloud saves your apps at a definite time. Does your games progress are saved too ?
2- Does the cloud, backup, if you use it, keep your adb shell tweaking ?
3- Is there a way to remove the notification on the phone menu for the updates on MIUI and systeme apps.
4- Can you updates systeme application (like carroussel...) without updating the MIUI 12.2.5 or i can have bugs. Are they inseparable.
5- I have read but i'm not sure,on MIUI 12.2.5 xiaomi removed the possibility to block the sensors (developper options, and the toggle on & off sensors add in shortcuts), is it true.
Thx for all your help, and sry again for my newbie questions.
the option you want to change is solved only by modding answer with this tool:

Xiaomi cloud is not necessary, when backup needed I connect to my desktop PC to move the files
When i was asking about xiaomi cloud, i refer to my old LG viewty witch in the past has a software and back up toolto save and back the entire rom, like a windows back up, image, restore point.Or like my iphone 4 with itunes,i could untirely back up everything on my iphone, as an image system. I read but not sure that xiaomi clouds could do it....
( Of course i can make a back up of files with usb but wanted to know,or search for an "image" back up of my Poco F2pro. )

options:
from the phone
1 / Xiaomi cloud
2 / backup on pc
but if you change rom sometimes the backup is not recognized.
With the pc:
3 / use MI PC Suite
https://c.mi.com/thread-2656146-1-0.html
the backup will work all the time but some application will not work (maps, google messages, bank ...).
With backups 1 and 3 you will recover 100% sure:
SMS, mms, call history, call recording.

Mi pc suite backup only:
photos,sms,mms,audio,thémes,call history,recordind calls,apps,contacts,video,documents,
black list,security,weather,settings,phone settings,clock,aod,app laucher.
No choice for the update. But after any update, it is best to reset the phone .Stock roms have bugs.
Unlock the bootloader then you will be free to install any roms(stock, beta, aosp,eu).
Hey folks. I've a pickle. Several of my friends and associates, all from different walks of life, here in OKC, Ok, are the victim of software exploitation...let me explain...
I'm a computer - I.T. guy.. have a history involving Unix and LInux Distro's and have avoided Android until recently.
Currently my devices have been hijacked. Running processes include:
Google Framekework
Wi-Fi Direct
Sim contacts
Launcher 3
QcrilMessageTunnelService
Ive a cheap pre-paid verizon Alcatel 5905s Due to my Premium Devices being hacked
It has
Android 8.1.0 I cant update
Kernal 3.18.71
3d5xufx1
Baseband 7Genns Pack1.201905.1.236923.1
My other devices will run 15 or more services within Googleplayservices.... The Apk versions of these packages like: GoogleplayServices, Android Auto, Facebook Manager (I dont use it btw), etc..all ridiculous permissions include root access and such....
My bluetooth, cameras, wi-fi - are all being turned on by the apps permissions and need help. Again I'm familiar with the Android System a bit - having a I.T. and Unix/Linux background I can come up to speed quickly....
Technology - especially opensource technology should never EVER be used like this. I have encountered a problem which effects a lot of good people. Regardless of their goodness badness or whatever - no one should ever use technology in this way....
My questions are:
Some of my friends and their devices have custom roms === How can I remove them? J3 x2 J7, A10. A11, Alcatel 5095s, LG 322DL and AQT 100 tablet to start....
Each of the above programs utilize Googleplayservices to have extremely stupid permissions and their corrosponding related aps....
Im even giving numbers for anyone to call: 4zerofive921sixfour49 Wade and 405eighthtreeefour30sevenzero chris
if you can help...please do....
Why not simply on hijacked devices re-flash their Stock ROM to get rid off of the installed Custom ROM?
Although Android is based on a modified Linux kernel, it has nothing in common with Linux: the Android Framework, which is based on Java APIs, is the interesting part.
And: Nobody is forced to make use of Google Play Services / Google Services Framework: Custom ROMs like LineageOS don't have them built-in.

Ok. Please let me in on this. It's intriguing. First I know little of Java but have started to begin learning development basics...so my questions are...
So I have an LG322dl....there seems to be no good info on ROMS my way...but then again these "apps' prevent me from looking at things that counter their functions....
I have ADB /Fastboot - and run Ubuntu 20.04. Theres a J7 that I tried to Flash but Heidall didnt work and dont know where else to turn... Theres also the Alcatel 5059s
I have 2 J3's the J7 an LG 322Dl and a Sam A11...i have read what is on here on each of the items. Basically I am told the LG no one can flash...(i dont believe it) the Alcatel is a headcache because I cant get any solid info...the A11 is now Google LOcked , and the Samsungs the original Flahing with Heidall doesnt do squat.....
Now all I understand are probably basics to you... If you got an issue you can flash your phone with the MF's Factory Build...but if your bootloader is locked, say - like on my A11 - I cant bypass for ****. I tried every which way 30 plus hours.... nothing... and it had my original fingerprint!
Also, the methods for each of my devices listed by users here and elsewhere just dont seem to work...
Can you please....explain to me the process to flash and or install a custom rom please?
thanks
Can't guide you: never have flashed a Custom ROM, because it never was necessary to do it.
Hi All!
I've recently got P40 Pro and I like it very much. Now I need some software to be installed - maps, chats, banking etc.
However almost all of these apps need Google services or HMS. I'll try to avoid using these frameworks by using MicroG and Aurora store.
My goal is to have some set of required apps and don't have bloatware (like Huawei AI apps).
So I also going to find browser, phone, file manager and others on F-droid and use them instead of pre-installed apps. And disable those via ADB.
There are tons of information I need to read to do that, and I'll surely will read.
BUT, most manuals have big disclaimer which says "Do everything on your own risk, you can brick the phone!". And that's what I definitely don't want to.
So my questions are - what is the set of safe operations? What predefined applications can be safely removed via ADB? How to make backup that will restore phone if something goes wrong?
I believe there should be some thread with same concerns, but I could not find it. If somebody could point me to it, I'll be very grateful! Thank you in advance!
The first and main thing is "Everything Do at your Own RISK" if you want to go through android modding or making changes in the system you should not fear from resetting or formatting the system first and other thing is that installation of any unstable or unsupported mod can brick your device to get recover from these situations you should have knowledge about adb and fastboot, oem unlock and bootloader, custom recovery, root, magisk and custom roms to get the full back of your android in current state needs root for root you have to unlock your bootloader and for unlocking bootloader you need fastboot tool or your device oficial bootloader unlocker tool then you can backup you droid by the most common tool titanium backup or simply by backu option in your custom recovery
I think having a fully capable ROM bootloader (EDL mode, MTK, Allwinner, RockChip...) is most important.
There are still times that your system is wedged and you'll need either ROM mode test points or flash disable.
That's when the boot chain is broken enough to not work, but not broken enough to be recognized as broken.
If things are totally broken it will go to ROM bootloader mode all by itself.
Thank you for your advises!
I could not find P40Pro in TWRP devices list, and AFAIK, to unlock bootloader it needs to be disassembled. Is that correct?
To get used to rooting, custom ROMs, flashing and things I'll better get some cheap used phone - this one is way pricey for savage experiments, especially when you're completely noob. So rooting isn't an option for me for now.

Dont waste your time. On this phones you cannot unlock the bootloader and definitely you cannot have access to the root. Also debloating is a non-sense: you can do more bad things than good things. The phone is powerful enough to not need debloating. It is not a Galaxy S2.
