Material File Manager is an Open Source File explorer developed following the Material Design guidelines. I made this as my first Android Project (I'm a CS Student), and i would like to propose it.
I focalized mainly about two things:
Material Design style;
Provide a smooth, fast and responsive experience to the user.
The most important features are:
Create new Files and Directories
Copy, Move, Rename and Delete Files And Directories;
Zip and Unzip files and directories;
Multiple Selection of files and directories.
Global Search.
I think also that customization is a fundamental part of an Android App, so i've given the user the opportunity to -change the drawer shortcut paths (to Images folder, Music folder, and Download folder).

Thanks for sharing your file manager as an open source project.
Honestly, as a power user, a lot of features is missing but it's a good start. Do you plan to continue the development?

Introduction:
Hi, I thought I'd post this in case anyone else was interested. I got tired of writing scripts to mass delete or rename certain files so I wrote this little a application. It has the ability to rename using regular expressions, which might be useful to some. I'll consider adding functionality (can't think of any right now) if it turns out there is any demand. Enjoy!
Requirements:
.NET framework 4.0
Installation:
Not required
Download:
See attachment
Some useful Regular Expressions
Rename all "files" to "files_Old" ( "_New" or "_[Date]" or whatever also possible)
Find: (.+)(\.)([a-z]+|[A-Z]+)
Replace: $1_Old$2$3
Rename\delete\move all *.png and *.jpg files
(.+)(\.)(png|jpg)

Bugs:
Changelog:
[22-01-11] v1.1:
- added the ability to mass move files as well
- added the abitity to search using regular expression to the 'delete tab' and the 'move tab'
[19-01-11] v1.0 - Initial release
Looks cool. Can not think what i need it for at this moment.
Sent from my DROID2 using XDA App
I figured as much, it's mostly useful with big collections of similarly named files or a big collection of files where only a few need renaming or deleting. It takes away the searching part there. I figured there are bound to be a few guys working with collections of some kind here,

Update
Updated application with move function as well as RegEx search on al tabs. Added a few useful Regular expressions to manage files collections, feel free to supply more and I'll add them to the first post.
Hi all,
We’re a small London based team with a mix of past experience directly at Android, Amazon & Apple and having built successful apps in the past such as utter! We’re creating a smart text based file manager called Gluru - built around the objective of trying to save time & trying to predict what you need (hopefully before you even know) - as a result we’re recruiting early testers and looking to get much needed feedback to improve the app. It’s really early days! The app is free for XDA testers - simply request an invite at: www.gluru.co
OR @ via the Google play link here:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.gluru.android.core&ah=uGBuHY10kqclbX5pnZdQIWsNjus
Ultimately as we develop this and role out future updates we believe this will supercharge workflow collaboration as a file explorer with a brain that learns from you either individually or as a team. It’s early days but we believe we’re on to something pretty exciting with the machine learning platform & algorithms that have been built and of course the early version of the app available at the link below - which we’re also quickly going to iterate because we know it’s not perfect. This is where you come in! As mentioned the app is free for XDA testers - simply request an invite at: www.gluru.co
Couple of example use cases to get the juices flowing (feature list further down):
- need a file for that call? receive a call and get the files you need immediately for that conversation
- need the slide deck for that meeting? get the files you need for that meeting in the moment.
- looking for that file and can’t remember where it is? search across & view all your connected sources in one simple place.
Gluru learns from you the more you use it. Simply swipe away the less relevant file suggestions and it will optimise itself.
We need your feedback to help tweak our event interaction. What use cases do you think we’ve missed?
You can give us feedback in 3 ways:
- via this forum
- via the specific XDA email address we’ve set-up: [email protected]
- or via the feedback form here: https://gluru.co/feedback/
We really want to understand what’s useful, what works, what doesn’t, suggestions for improvements, ideas for new features and just general feedback if the mood takes you Feedback is super valuable for us at this stage to help us build & iterate quickly.
A ‘highlights list’ of Gluru features is below for more info. We’ll endeavour to get back to all comments as quickly as we can!
Many thanks for all you help & valuable feedback!
Tim & Ben
Gluru - a simple file manager with a brain
Highlights:
- simple local file manager
- connect and manage external sources to consolidate storage in one place: Gdrive, Dropbox, Box, Onedrive, Evernote, Gmail, Gcal, Exchange
- create virtual hierarchy across all sources, simply add files from any source without physically moving them into a ‘virtual’ Gluru folder
- a simple view showing the most recent files sent by your contacts
- via the Gluru Footprint, get a quick understanding of the important stuff about each file - every file is summarised into its most important points, related files are surfaced, anyone who has touched it is surfaced, all links are extracted and any relevant news related to your file is highlighted
- switch smart notifications on or off so that files are sent to you in the moments you need them
- the more you use Gluru, the more it learns from you to enhance your recommendations
Please note - Gluru does not move your files unless you decide to - Gluru is just the connective link between them. They remain in the storage sources you’ve designated.
Gluru is currently in alpha invite stage - so we really value your feedback. As we can’t respond in detail here, please do leave any comments, feedback or bug reports via our feedback form here:
https://gluru.co/feedback/
Known bugs (that are being fixed!):
- Events - fix some swipe actions, fix dismiss/ delete animations
- Lag - occasional lag in some areas as the app is caching
- Visuals - improvements in some areas of design resolution
- Footprint news - related news accuracy not upto scratch - big(!) improvements coming soon
Coming soon:
- Auto-push - designate a cloud source and all email attachments which automatically pushed to a folder in that source
- Multiple user and device support for teams
- Notification learning acceleration
- Projects
- People Improvements
- Events Improvements
Platform & apps:
Gluru works by using its patent pending smart machine learning platform. The platform is accessible through the Gluru android app. There will soon be a website, an iOS app & an api for developers & enterprise to use the platform.
Language support:
Currently Gluru assistant is optimized for English. Other languages are coming soon.

Security & Privacy
The security of your data is of the utmost importance to us.
We don’t have access to the login details you provide to the Sources, instead we request a temporary token, which we use to access the data. This access can be managed and removed from your Source settings at any time instantly.
We want to be as transparent as possible, so if you’ve any concerns or suggestions, please do let us know.
That actually looks sophisticated. Any chance that you'll open the source code so we can be sure you won't do evil things?

Hi Rosa - thanks so much for posting. We're committed to being transparent and open. Security and privacy mean everything to us and as a result we've been careful to build this in a way that maintains that. We've talked about open sourcing this at somepoint in the future but we're not quite ready yet. Very happy to answer any questions that may come up and also keen for people to test the app and give us feedback. You can deauth the app at any time which deletes your account instantly. I hope this helps!
OK, thank you. I filed an invite request. :good:
Thank you all for the fantastic feedback so far via our direct email and feedback forms. Can I encourage direct postings on this thread so that any answers can benefit the community. Many thanks!
Hey everybody!
To God be the glory, I've been making some custom roms on XDA for a while, but I have decided to try to learn some new things by taking an app developer course. I've made a few apps, and I thought I would share them here as well. This app is open source, you are welcome to go to the Github and post issues, review and or copy the code (it is Apache-2.0 licensed), or download the app and enjoy!
These are my first apps, and I know they need a little improvement. So please feel free to leave a comment! But please remember, the best criticism is constructive.
If you do check out my Github, note that just about every line of my code includes a comment as to what it does or why it exists, so if you are like me and new to Android programming, be sure to check it out to see how it works! Also, in my Github are many "small apps" in the "apps_small" repo, which are apps I either made for the class, or made on the side to test out some feature or function. Hopefully that would be useful to someone.
Without further ado:
Just notes!
This is a no frills, simple, easy to use note taking application for those times that you just want to get straight to the point. Make and take notes, as well as save and delete old notes. A confirmation box will open before you delete a note to make sure that you really want to get rid of it. You can also choose the color scheme from the settings menu with eight colors to choose from! Best of all, this open source app has NO ADVERTISEMENTS!
About the permissions:
Read and Write to External Storage - Import and Export your notes!
This will require you to grant permissions to the app to read and write to your SD Card.

@AlaskaLinuxUser, thank you for developing this nice app, which is simple, yet effective.
Here's a few suggestions:
- add the possibility to select multiple "tabs" to delete
- import notes without having to rename the file manually into import.xml
I've noticed following small issues:
- the import button seems to export too and it export before importing
- when importing the import.xml, there appear a new empty "tab"
Overall, it's a nice app.
By the way, I suggest you to add "open source" too at thread tags, as sometimes I'm checking the apps using that tag. I've found your app by checking your profile to see what you're developing nowadays. I consider myself lucky. I hope you still remember me .
I'm looking forward for your apps.
Good luck!

[APP IDEA] "Share" encrypted -> ZIP/7z+ENCRYPT-> "Share" encZIP/7z->eMail/Dropbox/...
I'm looking for a tool which up to now is not available.
My dream tool can do the following: easily create an encrypted ZIP/7z file with a user-defined default password via share function from any app. In the next step you automatically share the new Zip/7z file again with another app (eMail, WhatsApp or Dropbox...).
Purpose: easy compression and encryption from every app for sharing files or storing securely in the cloud. 100% compatibility with all systems due to standard zip format.
The model is the wonderful SendReduced (available via f-droid), which uses exactly the same mechanism to reduce the image size.
Sounds interesting. I'm afraid I'm not a programmer .
Couldn't this Sent reduced be a starting base? As far as I understand it's open source?
Wow, cool idea. Replace zip with 7z, combine it with CryptSync (stefanstools.sourceforge.net) and do this open source.
Then you have a wonderful cool cross platform encryption solution for the cloud for everyday data storing online. I like!

Good idea. I added 7z.
BTW: Someone made a similar suggestion for the ghost commander:

Any news on this topic?
Hello community!
Google Play Store has millions of apps, and if I have to put a rough estimate, I would say over 70% of them are copy cats, are very poorly designed and offer little value to the user.
What that means for the end user is difficulty in finding a good app. I made a post earlier on the Best Android Apps I have found in several categories over the years.
This post intends to find something unique about an app you use. Please list the app (or apps) that you use which offer something very unique not available in (most) other apps.
Thanks.
Here I'll post a summary of all apps mentioned in comments to make it easier for users to find them.
FolderSync - Apps on Google Play
FolderSync enables easy sync of files between cloud storage and Android devices.
play.google.com
A very basic feature, File Organization, is unfortunately missing in File Manager apps. A lot of file manager apps offer much more than file management, yet they leave out this extremely fundamental aspect about file management.
Folder Sync allows you to create your own set of rules to organize files. This is extremely useful for the Downloads folder which contains several different types of files. Despite 'SEARCH' and 'SORT' features available, it is often helpful to organize files in sub-folders for specific reasons. This app helps do just that.
User can create rules to look for specific file extensions (multiple extensions can be used in a single rule) and move all files that match specified criteria into pre-defined sub-folders. I use it to organize my Downloads folder that contains the following sub-folders: Documents, Archives, Music, Pictures, Videos, Apps.
This is the only app on Google Play Store that does automatic File Organization perfectly well, and this aspect makes it UNIQUE.
ALTERNATIVES
1. Redirect Pro: not available on Play Store and not updated in a long time. It still works well even on Android 11.
2. BFileSync: Available on Play Store but not updated in a long time. Biggest problem with this app is that it changes the timestamps of files, making it unusable. But if that is not important to you, it will get the job done.
You'll find more such unique apps here:
Best Android Apps...
The list presented here is a collection of excellent apps (at the time of writing this) that excel in what they do (and supposed to do). They may or may not fit into the requirements of everyone perfectly. So choose whatever works best for you...

Multiling O Keyboard
This app is ridiculously customizable. Unique about this app is DIY layout feature. I can't able find any other app like this easy to make DIY layout. Also no internet permission makes it privacy friendly.

What customizations do you do in a keyboard app?
Hi, may I suggest App Finder?
As far as I know it's the only advanced search engine for Android apps available as an app itself.
(There's the AppBrain app, but this has for example no range filters, and the result list is very basic)
And also if you compare it to web search engine for Android apps (like appagg, appshive, reallyfreeapps, playsearch, play.gqqnbig), it's search operators, many filters, detailed result list with scalable screenshots, flexible UI, and number of indexed apps make it unique.

Can you elaborate on this?
Mixplorer is a very good file manager with plenty of customisations. But what are some unique features about it that other file managers don't support?

@TheMystic
Since you already have a thread HERE, and you also link it in post #7 above, this thread is redundant and hence closed. Please avoid creating multiple threads for discussing apps.
