Is this possible? On earlier cm based roms, there was a green browser included. Just called browser.apk
This could sync my google bookmarks easy and even create a widget with them. I can´t get this to work with Gello browser. Is it possible or do i need to stay with chrome? Chrome has a big thing I don´t like. When pushing links zoomed out, chrome zooms in that area so I need to press it again. It´s really not necessary to do that. I have not found a way to turn that function of either. Do you know how to disable it?

I don't believe that gello can sync the Google because as the developer says, it is still on. For stop chrome, you can go to the system/app/ and delete the whole chrome.

So, I've got my TB and have installed an earlier version of Swype (Evo).
I love that swype works great, except for the auto space with the stock SMS (Handcent FTW).
I've tried Dolphin Mini/HD, FF and Miren. I gotta say that I'm loving Miren, but because Swype auto space doesn't work at all, I'm back to the stock browser.
One of the things I love is being able to just type in search words in the browser bar, but I have having to erase the "http://www." everytime in the stock browser.
For example, if I want to search for "amsterdam", I go to the top, touch the browser bar, and see that everything is highlighted...EXCEPT for the "http://www."
So I need to manually delete/clear out the "http://www.", then go back and swype "amsterdam" to search from the bar.
Is there anyway to have the stock browser take out the "http://www." on the Thunderbolt as a default?
p.s. does Miren support swype auto space...if so, how?
I know what you're talking about and it's really annoying. On the Droid X, the browser would just clear out the whole bar. On the TB, i have forced myself into the habit of pressing the search button in browser when I want to search for something.
I must say I like the HTC browser much more than the Moto one, but the way it fills in http:// is just annoying as all hell.
I noticed that http bug in the stock browser as well. I'm sure it will get addressed soon (pardon the pun derp I couldn't help it.) As far as browsers not auto-spacing that's because those browsers use the address bar both for searching and for URLs, and there's no way for your keyboard know which one you are typing. I've been using opera for a while now, it's super fast since it's the only browser that uses hardware acceleration at this point, plus it has a separate address bar and search bar. Give it a try, you'll probably like it.
I don't think my browser does that. Then again if I'm going to do a search while in the browser I just hit the search button.
with the browser open, just tap the search soft key

I would rather leave it the way it is. I think they actually put a lot of thought into how this works and intended it to be that way. It assumes that if you're tapping the address bar you wanna type an address. How annoying would it be if you had to type the http..... every time. Just use the search button.

I would rather they bloody ask.. IE made options for that crap.
Check out the extra settings in the browser. It might be in there I would check for you but I don't have time. But I can direct you where to look. Go to browser> type in the url about:debug > hit enter or go whichever. It shouldn't do anything to the page but what will happen is if you hit menu> more> settings. It will give you much more edit menus. Give it a try.
Download and instal the aosp browser add on in the teslacoil rom thread, bak in the happiness!
Reading thru various ICS Rom threads I've been coming across many questions that are general ICS questions which I feel should be answered elsewhere. I know Google would be a good place but many people are probably hoping to find answers right here on XDA. So I thought we can start a thread to do just that. Here is a question I have.
How on earth do I manage/delete favorites or bookmarks for the browser and the bookmark widget?
Opinionated but hey, what setup is best for rows and columns (count)? 5X5?
I would guess go into the stock browser, bookmarks, then add and delete from there and it should modify your bookmarks widget.
I'm running Megadroid and I was wondering if I could get the updated Google talk from somewhere or if I have to download another ICS rom and rip it from there?

Great guess, that's what I thought especially since that's how I do it on my HC Tablet. But the only option is save to bookmarks. No managing options that I can see.
Getting latest talk, your guess is as good as mine. I have it on my Virtuous Rom and I do like it. I can see why you would want it. Good luck.
There isn't a little bookmark tab in the browser? Or menu/bookmarks? Pretty sure you just need to look around. I don't use the stock browser so I'm not a big help, sorry.
Thanks.
This thread should probably be in the Q&A Section.
Just tried deleting bookmarks in browser, just pressed menu button, selected bookmarks, long press on a bookmark deleted one of the standard bookmarks (chose wikipedia one for this one... poor poor bookmark)
not sure how this would impact the widget though as dont use it (note - using RCMix v1.0 and the std browser included in this)

I do not have that option under menu. I only have the save to bookmarks option.
I found it though, press and hold back button (capacitive back button) and voila. History and bookmarks come up. Long press on a bookmark and you can edit or delete it. Awesome.
Its been a little while since i started noticing this so i am not sure if its the rom i am on (kinda doubt it) or just an update to chrome, but i used to be able to fling to the bottom or top of a web page with ease in chrome. Now it seems that the "fling" option has been removed or is just not working ????
I am fairly certain that its something that will need to be fixed from google but just incase i am on Axiom S 2.8.1b and fusion kernel.
is this bugging anyone else or am i the only one? I cant take it anymore!!!!

If it really works and does the things it was designed for, I will never, never install this.
Would be the final surrender and is a perversion of Android.
This does not work for me. I uninstalled FB and FB messenger, installed the 3 APKs found on that site. Logged in to FB and FB Messenger but there is no "Enable Facebook Home" option in the FB app settings. If i choose to use the FB Home launcher, i get a black background with the little circle icon with my FB display picture in it.
the resolution on our phone is 1280x800 is it not? that website lists the max res that is compatible as 1280x768.
Edit: This is on a Samsung JB DXLSE rom, maybe you will get a different result on a non-touchwiz rom
Worked for me... and I uninstalled it just 3 minutes ago Just wanted to see whether it did work. I get my FB picture in the middle and when I drag it I get a camera on the left (Doesn't work?) apps at the to along with status updates and on the right I forgot... either way it is now uninstalled.
Oh, and I was on Asylum CM10.1

I guess you need facebook camera app. Black screen for me but now works fine! Anyway ive uninstalled it because i dont want friends or unknow people as my wallpaper... the idea was great but... it's not what i want
I really don't see the point of the Facebook app. It's like going back in time, as you lose the flexibility of the Android OS, without any widgets or customization of the home screen. Does anyone else see any use for the Facebook app?
4.1.2 JB LSZ Union ROM v5, KSO Modem, speedmod K-5 kernel, Carrier: AT&T (US)
Don't work for me
The facebook app provided just gives me 'error try logging in again later' message. I tried the facebook app from play store but there is no option to enable facebook home.
Stock LSZ (rooted)
Edit : just read somewhere that facebook has just blocked the dev version of facebook!
same here when "error try logging in again "
They need to fix the FB app, not create a new one. When you use Facebook Home, it feels like using iOS, really fluid... but when you use the Facebook app, looks like a primitive java app, even the Facebook for every phone JAR its better than the stock android app....
Sorry my bad english
Can't see this catching on for more than five minutes while people test it out, the reason I use Twitter over Facebook is so I can choose which pictures I want to have rammed down my throat, Facebook is ok, but it really depends on your friends and what causes, situations and inane conversations they choose to share, and to have that plastered all over my home screen instead of my 3d fish or some other funky live wallpaper, with widgets that feedback up to date information is beyond me.

Facebook Home really sucks bad! I'm never going to use it. All I see is memes and funny pictures on my lock screen. And most of all, FB Home is such a battery hog!
after installing facebook home, it is mandatory to reboot, but will not work
used for 5 minutes and then took off yesterday, is slower than normal application
We all know the Nexus Player has a Chrome browser integrated in its firmware as it is used for some settings, google cast support, etc. However, it seems the browser can be somewhat user accessed and has a bit more capabilities than I expected, such as a desktop mode, mostly baked remote control support, ability to directly access web, image, map, etc search and so on. The interface for the browser seems close to having full remote control support. Amyone can sideload the actual Chrome from the Play store, however that one doesn't have a leanback interface like the built in one yet.
Here's how to find it:
Select settings at the bottom of the main menu
Select "About" from the first row
Scroll down and select "Ads"
Scroll down and select "Ads by Google"
Scroll down to "Ads Settings" link and select it
Scroll down to the bottom of the page and select "Desktop View"
Now you can select from the top bar with your remote any of the quick links for Google services, such as "Search". Once you do so, you're brought to the standard Google search page... clicking in the search field brings up the standard software keyboard (or use your sync'd phone, otg keyboard, etc). The results are displayed in normal "Mobile" view as on a phone, but you can scroll to the bottom of that page and choose to view the results in "Classic" desktop mode which is preferable.
Once you visit a site you can scroll through it with your remote as well, however navigating and clicking links seems to be hit or miss depending on the site. Also, hitting "back" currently takes you back to the settings menu instead of the previous page. I'm sure there are other quirks as well.
The point of this is: it'd seem to be trivial for an enterprising developer to wrap the existing functionality in an app and expose this near complete built-in remote ready chrome browser for easy leanback web browsing on the NP. Or, of course, the obvious route of Google exposing this web browser to leanback itself. Interesting.
This is cool to know. Love or hate the old google tv boxes (the ones with honeycomb) that is one feature they had done really well was they had a really awesome version of chrome browser that was very similar to the pc version out at the time. Still one that is made to work with the NP is good too.
I was able to install Chrome Beta from the Play store, and after getting past the "I Agree" screen it works perfectly. I'm using a BlueTooth KB/Mouse.
I'm using ChainFire's Launcher to start it, as the Icon doesn't populate on the home screen.
Tried this but can't get beyond "Ads by Google". When I select this I get a black bar down the center of the screen (1/3 the screen) and it flashes some information but then goes back to black.

Same happens with me. I read in another post Chrome will work (non-beta) but launched through the Chainfire sideload launcher. Also read Nova launcher works. Will test this weekend and update.
Strange. I still have no problem getting in to the built-in browser doing what I wrote above as long as Chrome from the play store isn't installed. If you instal Chrome from the play store, it supplants the built-in browser and the procedure above doesn't work anymore.
I also have Chrome from the play store installed... it works ok, but not as well as the (near hidden so useless) built in browser when it comes to the remote control support - with keyboard and mouse Chrome from the play store works perfect. I also don't like the Chrome from the play store defaults to its "mobile" UI in search, etc.
Hopefully Google will surface the built-in soon and provide an easy link in the main leanback interface.
I thought I got rid of the Chrome browser I had downloaded as a test but I hadn't. Once I did, the built-in now works except it does not fit the screen correctly (menu items at top only display half).

Your TV is probably not in "just fit" kind of mode... it's probably over scanning or set to 16:9, etc. If you can change the aspect ratio through your TV settings that'll probably fix the issue. Most media content is designed for overscanning so won't be an issue, but things like web browsers, PC screens, etc are not.
I was able to get the built in chrome by just installing google search from the playstore..
