[GUIDE] V20 Fastboot access in Windows. - LG V20 Guides, News, & Discussion

So I'm seeing a ton of posts of folks not able to get fastboot to see their devices. I've done some tinkering around and found a set of drivers that work fine for both ADB and Fastboot. (Attached)
Uninstall any ADB drivers you have on your system. Easiest way is to plug your phone in, go into device manager, right click your phone and select uninstall and check the box that says to remove the driver as well.
Then download this package, extract, simply run install.exe as admin. Don't panic, it doesn't do anything visual.
Now plug your phone in and see if adb works, you may need to authorize the computer again on the phone so make sure it's unlocked.
Reboot into bootloader and check if fastboot sees the phone by using
Code:
fastboot devices
If not then go back into device manager and right click on your phone, select update driver, let me select one from a list and you should see "Fastboot interface (Google USB ID)". Select this one.
Check fastboot without unplugging with the same command. Check and see if you can send commands to the phone by using for instance,
Code:
fastboot getvar unlocked
If the command fails, simply plug the phone into a different USB port and the same Google driver should install again and you should be able to send commands to the phone. Alternatively, you can reboot the phone by tapping the battery out and starting it all over again.
Now she chooches.
Lemme know if you're still having problems.

Verizon variant here,
I cannot seem to get this dang V20 in the right mode
(I've seen a bootloader or two in my day):highfive::laugh::silly:
I have used the adb command (several times)
Code:
adb reboot bootloader
to get it into bootloader mode, alas it is to no avail since all the command does is send the phone into "Restart" mode; nor can I get fastboot to recognize it when it is in, what I believe to be , the bootloader for said LG V20 of the
Verizon persuasion!
Suggestions?

You need fastboot, not bootloader... To get it, turn off your phone, plug your LG cable into the computer, ( but not the phone yet) hold the volume down key for 5 seconds then plug it into your cable, do not release the button till your phone boots. It should boot into fastboot... Provided you have turned on USB debugging in developer settings (turn on oem unlock while you are in there too. (this is the way on the tmo V20 at least... If that doesn't work, I would use the dirty Santa guide
Sent from my LG-H918 using Tapatalk

Not sure how I finally got it working for my Verizon variant as I tried like four or five different ways, but someone should definitely make a video.. Perhaps I will since I think visuals are a good aid to go along with written instructions..

Thanks bro works
Very easy
With my t mobile v20

My phone shows as connected in adb devices. I can also get it to reboot bootloader, but once im there.. I cant issue any commands such as fastboot oem device-id. It gives me the dreaded waitng for any device.

can't manage to make this work for H990DS, i don't get the usual authorization window to the computer, only get the window to choose which USB mode (battery charge, file transfer, so on...) I'm trying to get adb to work to activate agressive Doze on Greenify app, any help?

Thanks

[Q] Fastboot problem

hello,
I'm hoping someone here can help me sort out my current problem.
I've been trying to root so I can install the latest ICS port, but having problems at the Fastboot screen.
I apologize in advance if some of the references/names I'm using are incorrect.
So, I had originally unlocked my Nexus S sometime early this year. When I restart the phone, the "unlocked" lock picture shows up under the "Google" words, and when I go into fastboot mode, the Lock State is Unlocked.
I'm running 2.3.6 right now on the Tmobile version of the phone.
When the phone is on (not in fastboot mode), I can execute ADB commands and the device is recognized. As soon as I go into fastboot it isn't.
I'm running 64bit Win 7, and I have gone through the various threads that have listed this issue, and installed PDA Net drivers and still there is no solution.
In Fastboot mode, while connected to computer under device manager, it shows up under Universal Serial Bus Controllers as an Unknown Device... I'm unable to update any drivers for it, and even when I try to manually update the drivers by going to the PDANet drivers it does not allow it.
When the phone is on in regular mode in device manager it shows up as Android Phone and within that it has a listing called Android Composite ADB Interface.
As mentioned above, when phone on in regular mode everything is detected.
I installed clockwork app from market, assuming that the phone was "rooted" based on the "unlock state" in fastboot mode, but it immediately says that phone needs to be rooted because it was unable to find SuperUser file etc etc.
I've spent the better part of a few days trying to figure this out by checking all sorts of links, but I haven't found a solution. The main issue is that the phone is not being recognized when in fastboot mode when connected by USB. And I'm unable to install the proper drivers for fastboot mode.
Hopefully this makes sense, and someone can provide some insight.
Thanks in advance!
I'm not positive about this but couldn't you adb push the su binary and apk? I don't own the Nexus but I would think since its unlocked you could just push the files. If this would work I would think it's just a temporary solution to allow superuser permission. As I understand it, fastboot is the preferred method for the Nexus.

Did you try a fastboot command like fastboot devices?
Don't know if this applies to you but I had a similar sounding problem when trying to root my Nexus S where everytime I booted into fastboot mode I had an error message at the bottom of the screen saying something like 'fastboot status-fail Invalid command' and so I couldn't use any fastboot functions.
To get around it I used this one-click root . For some reason I got an error message halfway through for whatever reason and it wouldn't complete the root for me but it booted me into fastboot without receiving the error message and then once I was in I went and rooted manually.
The CWM is out of date on that site though (possibly the super-user zip too) so I replaced them with the latest versions and popped it in my dropbox for you, if you wanna try it out.
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/47770734/One-Click-Nexus-S.zip
Edit: just had a little look through the bat script and the initial commands that got me into fastboot properly is (with your phone in debugging mode):
adb start-server
adb reboot bootloader
Click to collapse
So you could try that first if you wanna go through manually.
Know that you can't run adb command while in fastboot mode. Boot into your CWM and then you can start an adb shell and you'll be able to push all the files you want and execute all the commands you need.
Fastboot mode is for running fastboot indeed. Try 'fastboot devices' while you're in the bootloader and see if devices pop up. If not, you really have to figure out your drivers issue. Maybe remove the device completely from your PC (including driver files) and reinstall it using the PDAnet drivers.

Unable to ADB & fastboot all of a sudden

I have a adb enabled under developers section along with allow install of non- google apps. I have the HTC_fastboot files in the proper folder and I have navigated to that. When I type 'adb devices' I get 'list of devices attached'. When I reboot to bootloader fastboot returns the same response instead of giving me the serial number like usual.
This just happened all of a sudden when my computer stopped recognizing that my phone is connected. I can't do anything with it. Can anyone think of a way to get my phone to be recognized by adb and fastboot so that I can get into flashing mode and RUU mode too?
Solved. When all else fails, check the most simple solution:
I let my sister borrow one of my usb cables not long ago so she could charge her phone, and it appears she gave me a different one back (I didn't notice- I didn't think she had one to begin with). It seems the one she gave me was a charge only cable. Don't I feel like an idiot. Wah wah waaahhhh.

HTC One Mini (M4_U4) Softbricked, OEM not unlocked, USB debug not enabled, bootloop

Hi all,
My HTC One Mini crashed one month after warranty (Boo!). I can get to the FASTBOOT and BOOTLOADER screen and select options. However, the Factory reset and recovery just cause a vibration and get be back to FASTBOOT menu. The phone is *** LOCKED ***.
After a few false starts on linux and mac machines, I've installed WinDroid Toolkit v3.1 on Windows 7. I have gotten the Token ID and used it to get an Unlock_code.bin via email from the HTC developers website (Cannot link as newb). However, when I follow the instructions in WinDroid it recommends that newer devices require "Enable OEM Unlock" to be set:
I cannot do this now. I continue but when it says a menu will appear on the phone, the menu does not and the phone remains in *** LOCKED *** state. I tried continuing with step 2 "Flashing a TWRP" but it does nothing.
TL;DR Am I screwed with having previously unlocked OEM on my HTC One Mini, now that it is soft-bricked?
I'm not that good at this stuff, but managed to get mine unlocked and a recovery on it via this link
sadly mine still has a problem in that it's now stuck in a boot loop, so don't use Oneclickroot as I did in my post here
hopefully you will get yours to work ok, but when you get to instruction 17 you may find that HTC website is quite fussy with the code you copy/paste
when you copy the Identifier block into Notepad or whatever, ensure you don't get any leading blank spaces before you submit it to HTC.
this excerpt from mine had blank spaces where I have inserted red X's, but it worked with them removed and HTC then emailed me the Unlock_code.bin file

sorry,
lost the plot on my first reply and forget about the OEM unlock bit ...
to get that OEM unlock bit you would normally
first Enable Developer Modeon your phone by Launching the Settings Application -
Scroll Down and Tap on About Phone(or About Device) - Locate the Build Number Section - Tap on the Build Number Option 7 Times -
Go Back to the Main Settings Page - Scroll Down and Tap on Developer Options and it's found there
but given that you are in is bad a place as me in that we cannot get a bootup, I'm afraid I can't offer any more info,
but it's worth knowing anyway in case you do get booted up
Hi, i have the same issue, but a little different.
My phone was in a box for like 2 months, and then i decide to turn it on again, and i faced the same problem as the OP, but my One Mini is UNLOCKED, and i can't lock it again because i get an error in ADB. I try to enter on recovery (and flashed three differents recoveries without sucess), and reboot in bootloader, then try to factory reset, and reboot bootloader again. It don't do anything, only turn on when i plug the usb and enter in bootloader but no more than that. i've try to flash a RUU too, but it give me the error 171. i tried too the method with the rubber band pressing the power button to cause a reboot loop and get enough charge to launch the system but nothing, i don't see any results. I'm one step closer to give up, please help, i tried everything and nothing has worked for me. If need more information don't doubt on asking me. I really appreciate any help you can provide.
I'll try mate ... but perhaps you are asking for help from the wrong guy! - firstly I have to say mine is still in a very bad place! -
I managed to get a permanent TWRP on it, installed a lovely rom named InsertCoin on it, rebooted, and all seemed fine, but then the battery drained rapidly and it would not charge - that issue is ongoing and I'm spending ages on it just now..
Firstly can you confirm that you can enter Bootloader and select Fastboot, and that your phone is then recognised by your PC?
ie: let me know what happens when you press power and vol down together, select fasboot, goto PC, run ADB, cable phone to PC,
then issue the command ADB devices
can you also upload a photo of your bootloader screen

i don't need to press vol down and power together, the phone enter in bootloader once you plug the usb cable. it do that alone.
This is what i get
C:\adb>adb devices
List of devices attached
C:\adb>
the phone is recognized by HTC Sync manager but i can't see it in ADB.
a few things things jump out at me ...
1. from your photo the screen is shattered! - even though I don't like being beaten by phones I would scrap it
the repair would cost more than you can get one from ebay for - about £40.00
2. "abd devices" should return you something like ... "List of devices attached sh3d7h3dj631f6a7" - when it doesn't it show a device number it's usually your drivers
3. you may think that's not it since you say that it is recognised by HTC Sync when on your PC, but I had read that HTC sync is unreliable and that the drivers are not the best
the one's I used were HTC-Mobile-USB Driver-v4.17.0.001.exe but I can't remember where I got them and will upload them later today and send you a link.
(also, it pays to plug your usb cable into a rear port on your PC when doing this kind of work as front are not as reliable)
4. your Hboot is shown as 2.22 -this also can be a problem for TWRP see this link
5. the download link he has is broken, so get any TWRP above 2.7 from their website here

2. I will leave you down here exactly what i get when i type "adb devices" (with an attached image)
3. i have installed the latest HTC drivers, and i tried connecting my phone to front an rear usb ports, both of them. No results.
4. Down here i'll leave you an attached image of what i get when i try to install a recovery by typing "fastboot flash recovery recovery.img" (i changed the name to recovery.img of course) and the phone seems installing the recovery in fastboot but it gave me that error in adb and when i try to enter in recovery it reboots on bootloader.
your first image does not 'see' your device mate, so there is no point in trying a flash of anything
until you get a response from "adb devices" that shows a device number you have no chance of getting anywhere!
I am quite certain that the problem MUST be with your drivers
my advice would be to uninstall the HTC Sync and clean out any drivers on your PC and to install the drivers and flash the TWRP I mentioned earlier
sorry I didn't upload earlier as I've been very busy indeed - they are now on my Google Drive ... links here .... and here

At this point, nothing. It's a prelude to rooting.
When I type in fastboot oem unlock, I get < waiting for any device >
And it waits, forever. (well, ok, like 15 minutes until I get impatient and pull the battery)
I'm on windows 10, installed the drivers from this post. When I check the device manage, the phone is listed as Android Bootloader Interface. I try updating the drivers by pointing it to the LG drivers folder, it says drivers are up to date. I've got ADB and OEM unlock both enabled in developer options. I've tried the phone on different USB ports, the cable works fine when the phone is booted normally, I've tried launching minimal adb&fastboot as admin and regular. What am I missing/doing wrong?

Try fastboot devices and reinserting the usb cable. Doesn't make sense that adb sees it but fastboot does not unless it's a different driver. I think fastboot driver differs actually so do that driver too.

Yeah I am really curious if there may still be a way to unlock the bootloader with out AT&T variant. I wish I kept my phone on the Download Mode when I had gotten into it because I wanted to see if by any chance that might actually get fastboot to read the phone..
I'm curious if there's anyone with a T-Mobile variant that has their bootloader unlocked and wants to view their debug logs (specifically last_log/last_kmsg). As I was looking through mine and tried to boot into bootloader these lines were the only things I saw that might have interested me at all. I'm just curious on what the values are on their phone.
Code:

Yup, I did that. And then I get an error. Well, not an error, just a lack of response. fastboot devices returns nothing. I'm currently downloading the full sdk, on the theory that perhaps it's a problem with the installation of 'minimal adb and fastboot' I have.

Did you do anything specific after installing Android Studio to get it to install the drivers? Cos I've installed Android Studio, but am still having the same problem-fastboot devices returns nothing, and fastboot oem unlock hangs on <waiting for device>. I went into device manager and had it search the entire C: for drivers for the android bootloader interface, and it gave the same 'already up to date drivers' message as before I installed Android Studio.
EDIT- Even after installing the Google usb driver, no luck. Giving up for the weekend.
I'm a newbie, may I know have to fastboot from download mode?
having same issue just hangs at Fastboot oem unlock if anybody can help thanks in advance

Botched Graphene install on Pixel 3A - need help restoring default settings

Hello,
I am hoping for some advice on how to revert my phone back to its original "factory settings" after a botched instal of GrapheneOS onto an unlocked Google Pixel 3A.
I got to the point at which I needed to Flash the Graphene Rom to the phone, but rather than installing, I received a message from Smart Screen MS edge asking if I really wanted to run as it's protecting my PC - I clicked run anyway and a blank command line window appeared for a second. Now my pc doesn't seem to be recognising the pixel 3A when I type ADB devices. My phone is currently in Fastboot mode "unlocked" and I'm hoping for some advice on what to do next. I'm total noob, so unsure how to start the process over (return the phone to it's previous state) before, maybe, trying again on a different PC.
I have since turned on my phone and Android 11 is still present and seems to work fine (however it gives me a warning on startup that the bootloader is unlocked.
Any help would be very much appreciated - thank you in advance.
Is all what happened that your phone now:
complains about "'maybe not safe bootloader unlocked".
This is just what android does when the bootloader is unlocked.
This you did before trying the flash.
If you want the warning gone simply lock it again.
However if you into the market for graphene OS then I would recomend: along with following their guide to a t to also read up here on xda about the general rooting unlocking thing a bit more so you get the overall process a bit better perhaps next time.
About windows. There are so many tools out there to help ya with disabling some of it's spying, turning off smartscreen, auto - uploads of all your data to M$oft, etc etc.
It's not hard to find.
Thanks for the response - I think I've worked out what is going on.
Typing ADB devices, my PC recognises the phone until I put it into fastboot mode - typing adb devices when in fastboot comes back with nothing and therefore when I try to flash, I assume the devices aren't talking to each other.
Not sure if there's a work around or whether it's a case of finding a new PC to try it on?
Thanks again.

try another USB port first; use USB 2.0 if available! Reinstall google ADB drivers, make sure to use latest!
If above will not help:
on your computer: open device manager; on your phone: put your phone into fastboot; connect your phone to the computer WHILE keeping an eye on device manager; as soon as you'll connect your phone new device will appear in device manager ("unknown device" most likely but it might be some "android device" or "ADB device" too); right click it —> update driver —> automatic driver update worked in most cases for me, if not, go manual way and select google's "android fastboot device" (or something like that, can't remember actual name of the device); after driver install confirmation you should be good to go

thats if I am not wrongly remembering my experience:
because now your phone is in fastboot mode thus it won't show up with that command anymore.
Try: 'fastboot devices'
I imagine you put it into fastboot through: 'reboot fastboot' when you where in adb?
When in fastboot you can go on and flash the recovery and such.
Are you still in need of help here?
Hey, thanks for the clarification - been away and so haven't implemented all suggestions, yet.
I typed "adb reboot booloader" which I assumed put it into fastboot mode and then unlocked it using "fastboot flashing unlock".
I tried fastboot devices but the PC still doesn't see the phone. I'm going to try the update usb driver suggested by Tamsta_T and see how it goes.
Thanks for your help.
