Hey Guys,
i just bought my second Honor 8 (now in black and also has some headphones inside! ) for my sister and plugged it to the charger. After a while i recognized that there is no LED on or something which shows me that the phone is actually loading. So i tried the charger from my older Honor 8 and still the same. It does nothing! It does not boot or charge up. I called the support. But luckily I have to wait till monday to talk with them. So i tought maybe some of you had the same issue
Peace,
Musti

Sounds like a DOA and it's not normal. Try with a 3rd charger and cable. Does it charge while connected to the PC?

You might want to get a replacement unit.
Sent from my honor 5X using XDA Labs
Suggest contact Customer Support to get a replacement, sounds like a complete dead unit to me. Usually when the phone release from factory, the battery is not fully charged but sure can power on the phnoe for a couple of hours.

Yeah, you wish...
Just ask for them to send you a replacement unit ASAP as you need the phone. That way you wont have to wait for the repairs.

I received my g2x on Tuesday. Been working fine. I received my MicroHDMI cable yesterday, and decided to give the HDMI mirroring a try. The minute I plugged the cable in to the phone, it shut off and locked up. Pulled the battery, let it sit, put the battery back in, turned the phone on, and the battery (which had a full charge) was now showing 0%. I plugged the phone in to the charger and that's when the area around the camera became too hot to touch. So I called T-Mo and now I've got to mail it off for a replacement. Fun stuff.
where did you get your cable from? i ordered mine from ebay.
I bought one off Amazon. Looks like a quality cable. Unfortunately I didn't save the link.
I got it last night and played some Need for Speed on my 24" monitor.

I've heard of cheap cables shorting out the device when you touch the metal rim of the phone accidentally with the HDMI cable...
This cable has worked fine for me so far:

I had the exact same thing happen to mine, and I did the exact same thing, replacement is on the way. I got mine from monoprice though.
After reading a few of these stories, I'm pretty paranoid about trying the HDMI port on my G2x!
i get all my cables from monoprice.com
dirt cheap and high quality.
sorry to hear about the issue with your phone though. hopefully this doesnt become a common issue.
Same here. Completely fried the phone. Got the bad one from monoprice. Ordered another one from amazon and it works great.

The same thing happened on my phone with the monoprice cable. I don't know if the cable fubar'ed the phone, or the battery.
My phone initially wouldn't turn on for several hours, but it finally work up later (but the battery now won't hold a charge). And the phone stays hot when the damn thing isn't even turned on!
OH BOY!
This is not good. How is everyone hooking up their phone? Are you connecting to the tv first then the phone? Cuz I'm wondering if it makes a difference or not.

Sounds like the common theme here is MONOPRICE. So I'd beware of purchasing their cables! On mine you can still smell the burning smell from the inside of the phone, and the battery won't stay charged for 6 hours when before I was getting easily a full day.
Until yesterday, my TF700 was working perfectly fine, but now I'm concerned as the battery in both the dock and the tablet have stopped working.
The AC adaptor's connected to the dock and I always charged both the tablet and the dock together for the most part.
I went to check the device this morning and suddenly found that they're not working at all.
Yesterday evening, I tried switching on the tablet and it would switch on and reach the ASUS screen, but not fully boot up.
I bought it from Amazon's Amazon Warehouse division and I have until the 31st to return this, but in the meantime, I'd like to know why the batteries have died on me suddenly and is there anything I can do about it.

If it's a genuine hardware failure, you'd have to return -- unless you're very proficient at handling and replacing sensitive electronics yourself (microwelding, for example).
It has been reported before, and could be fixe din almost every case by letting the 700 be dead for at least an hour, and then let it fully charge while off (!) -- just let it sit hoked up to the wall charger for at least 8 hours. Then try to turn it on again.
Good luck.

It never hurts trying -- you aren't exactly the first to describe this, but luckily, pretty much all of the others were saved.
I finally managed to get the problem sorted out as it seems that the connection to the port on the keyboard had somehow come a bit loose without me noticing it.
Unfortunately, I have a new problem in that the cable itself seems to have died in that it won't work any more with the adapter as it started crackling a bit when I knocked the connector attached to the AC adaptor itself gently by accident. :crying:

Well, I hope I am right in assuming this is not your luckiest week, huh? Is the cable damaged near the wall charging part? (That's what I understand.) The replacement cables probably are not that expensive, so I'd plonk down on a new one instead of initiating "daredevil repair mode".
Saying that gives me that MacGyver feeling. Duct tape and a pair of scissors would be all that he needs to fix this.
Oh, and maybe a pair of toothpicks and an old sock, just for looks.

The cable itself is fine (it's not worn down to the wire literally like a lot of cables and AC adapters you get for devices like iPods and Galaxy S II's), it's just that it has this weird burnt-like smell at the end connector that plus into the USB socket on the AC adaptor.
As for replacement cables, I'm surprised that they're not that easy to buy offline.

Agreed -- buying them offline is a definite hassle. I have seen them online, though, and you can even hunt down the charger parts or the TF101 and TF201 Prime. They will work flawlessly.
BTW and FWIW (gotta love acronyms), my charging cable smells a bit funny at the end too. This specific one has to put through a lot of power, so I'm not even that surprised.

In all seriousness though, I love my TF700, it's just a shame that it's such a pain in the ass (not literally!) to buy official accessories in the shops and it's not as if you can buy a USB cable for it in the shops unlike ones for the iPod, iPad and iPhone.

Just giving you guys a update concerning my device: It seems now that both batteries don't want to work any more for some reason or other as of yesterday. I've checked both the official USB cable and a third-party cable plugged into the official USB plug and they're not charging up the device at all.
The tablet can connect to my laptop as a media device without any problems, but I'm confused as to why it's not working at all when plugged into a USB adapter.
In any case, I'm going to order a AC adapter from eBay later today and see if that works or not.

Try another charger. Quite a few people seem to be complaining about the OEM Sammy chargers going kaput. Also could be a cable problem (broken wires) - I had a similar problem with my wife's tablet, fixed by replacing a cable.

Before buying a new charger, I would suggest confirming the exact problem first. You may be able to borrow a charger from someone (any USB charger with approx 2 Amp output will work, for example, from an iPad), or a cable. See what fixes the issue, and get a replacement. Also, if you have some average soldering skills, the cable can fairly easily be fixed at home (in case it is a faulty cable) - the wires usually break at the connector, and the OEM Sammy 30-pin connector is snap-assembled, not glued, so you can take it apart and put it back togethet. Good luck!

Hi guys, I'm hoping someone has a solution... my Tab 2 (GT-P3110, not rooted, stock ROM, original Samsung charger) all of a sudden stopped charging while it's on. The battery icon top right has a red cross over it and the tablet slowly discharges, the same as when it isn't connected to the power source. If I shut down, it charges but slowly - it takes around 10 hours to charge to 100%.
I tried with other (albeit generic) chargers of 2A and more - same result.
Tried also a few things found on internet, such as charging while holding the power button for 1 minute, and similar...
Before I go ahead and start butchering it, has anyone had a similar problem - how was it solved?
Thanks!

I had similar problem with one of my tabs (I got a few 3113s). I tried (what i thought was) everything. Swapping batteries, flashing new roms, resets and such. The only way I found to fix it was to install a new motherboard.
I bought a used motherboard off eBay and watch an ifixit video. 10-12 screws later. It worked.
Just sharing my experience of the red x.
Here's a link to the seller I used on ebay. I actually had 2 broken tabs to fix, so, the bundle of 3 was right up my alley.

Ouch... the fix (and shipment to Europe) would unfortunately surpass the value of the tablet - can probably get a similar specs alternative unit for the price of motherboard...
Thanks for taking time to respond, though - appreciated.

In my experience, it just needs a new charger. When the charger doesn't provide enough electric supply to the tablet, the red x appears.

Thanks for the suggestion. I have tried with a generic (5V, 2.4A) and my other ASUS (5V, 2A) - same result.
Maybe is the cable - it has this wide Samsung plug which is hard to replace this neck of the woods, so it's difficult to check.... but that's also a bit counterintuitive, as the charging should be a binary thing - either it works or it wouldn't be detected at all - or is there more to it?
The battery must be changed. In my case I couldn't find the original spare so I just used a 3.7 v battery from a portable charging device ( it worked but not enough the charging cable is always connected... That's atemporary solution ) the red cross appears only on stock ROMs if you use any KitKat or mm
try install different ROM if the problem persists then buy new battery

i posted a somewhat similar thread, my bad. though my situation differs on a tab2 p3100.
mine does charge when power if off. however, it does not charge when power is on and the computer does not even recognize it. there is not even any error that a usb device is not being recognized, which is common error returned by windows when a usb has problem. all my drivers are okey.
and as well, the difference with mine is that i see no red x when my device is plugged in to the charger and powered on.

Do you use the good charger?
Till now, I used a Samsung charger with same output (ampere and volt) and it worked fine. But since 2 days, I had the same issue than you. I didn't use this one of Huawei because the plug wasn't compatible with my country. I then tinkered the connection to adapt it to my country. Now all works fine again.
