"Lost" My Google Dialer. . . - Nexus 5X Themes and Apps

Hi all.
I had nice Google dialer, that I had to press Send/End without dragging nothing...
After about a week I noticed that in my dialer I have to drag up to answer.
I use original Google phone, and pixel launcher.
No Nova/Apex.... stuff.
Can please anyone tell me where my dialer disappeared?
Thanks!

Try using a different launcher. Pixel launcher makes you drag up to access your app folder. Maybe it affects the dialer too.

With out it it's the same. I think it's new dialer and android 7.1.1...

I think they changed it server side (probably beta testing), because i lost it too, but my brother on his phone still has the new dialer.

No since the Phone app is tied to contacts, etc. Replace the icon using Bettercut if it bugs you that much.

Which part?
If you're talking about the Phone icon on the FroYo Launcher then you'll have to change that code yourself otherwise I would use another Launcher such as ADW or the likes then you can put whatever phone app you want in those short cuts.
ok, shame im not a coder
Check out Nubdial. It runs better than dialerOne IMO>
I have a MyTouch, so when I press the off hook key (dialer) it would as me what phone/dialer to launch/default if there's more than one installed. Is that not the case with N1?
You can try launchers like home++, helix, adw, or launcher pro, which alt. shortcut keys at the bottom of the home screen for you to configure.

[Q] Dialer contact search

Hi, I can't find a way to search contacts while typing their name or number in the stock dialer.
I mean, if I type the first two digits of my gf number in my old i5500, it showed her name. Is it possible on this device to do the same, without resorting to external apps (like I'm doing right now with aContacts)?
Thanks.
My Nexus S, for your info, is a i9023 SCLCD, rooted, using NSCollab.
There are few dialer apps on the market that do this. Dialer one, Go Contacts and dialer 2 are 3 that I have used. Also do a search for T9 Dialer. Enjoy, cheers.

Yeah, I know. Did you actually read my post?
I'm using aContacts, I was just wondering if it was possibile to do this in the stock dialer, or there was a modded dialer apk, who knows
Sorry I did it but I guess I read it too quickly or you edited it while I was typing. Hope you find an answer.

No problem Thanks for the help anyway!
You can hit the search key when on the contacts tab, but that's as close as you'll get without using a 3rd party app.
I see. That's funny, because a low-end phone like the i5500 had this really useful feature integrated in the OS. Go figure.
Yeah, I don't get it either.
I've become quite fond of GO Contacts, though.
I just tried mydialer, it is smokin fast. I like go as well. Bummer that GB doesn't have this as stock.
Go Contacts is better than aContacts, thanks It's even better than default contacts

[Q] Google Play Moto G with Kitkat Dialer

Apparently, the Google Play Moto G comes with the Kitkat dialer. Can we port this over to our Moto G Motorola edition phones?
We already have the kitkat dialer. We just don't have the silly "nearby places" function that is found on the Nexus 5.

No we don't have the Google Dialer. We also don't have the caller id function that uses Google business look up. The dialer being used is the AOSP version afaik.

Nope. On 4.4 we get the new dialer minor the nearby places and called ID function.
You can circumvent this simply downloading the apk.

Those features are the new dialer. Also, it's not as simple as downloading the apk. You have to download, give certain permissions and move to a protected folder via root. After that you still can't launch the damn thing without nova launcher because the icon impossible to add to your homescreen. Not a solution.

Yes, that's what I said. The dialer is there except those two features. And yes its simple. This is XDA, changing app permissions is the equivalent of 2+2 in arithmetic. If not there are ways to flash it as well.
And you don't need nova launcher. You can just get a shortcut maker in the play store, make the shortcut and uninstall. That's how I have it 0 problems.

The Moto G is not using the Google Dialer. Just look at the name of the APK. It is the AOSP dialer. On the Nexus 5, the dialer is called "Google Dialer". They are completely different APKs.

Well I haven't been called by anyone I don't know, so can't say anything about the ID. But nearby places works just fine. And you can't disable the stock dialer, or so I've been told. Haven't messed with it because I haven't seen the need to.

Who is talking aesthetic wise? The point of this thread is talking about porting the Google Dialer from the GPE Moto G to the regular Moto G. The Moto G as it currently stands is NOT using the Google Dialer.

We went on a tangent, when I implied the non-GPE Moto G does come with the kikat dialer (as opposed to other non-GPE devices on kikat) aesthetic-wise, not functionality-wise. I then went on and said that if you want the functionality you can always flash the true Google dialer, which is now the discussion at hand.

You are confusing people by calling it the KitKat dialer. There are two dialers. The AOSP dialer and the Google Dialer. The Moto G is using the AOSP dialer which is not the same as the Google Dialer. And it is not the same aesthetic-wise since it is pretty much missing all of the features of the Google Dialer.

This is my last reply to you, as you seem to be taking this minute detail way too seriously, especially since the only confused here is you.
The aosp dialer and the Google dialer are identical sans the nearby places and the Google ID, features that do NOT impact the aesthetic of either app (aesthetic being how the 4.3 dialer differs from the 4.4). Like I mentioned, I was clarifying that the non-GPE Moto G comes with the Google dialer's look, sans the functionality (unlike other non-GPE phones on kikat). And that if you want to get the functionality, you have to get the true google dialer apk. You seem to be talking about the inherent apk difference, which is inconsequential to the context of this little tangent we went on.

Actually, the OP was asking about the KitKat dialler, not the Google dialler from the Nexus 5, by the looks of it:

How can the Icon be accesed via nova?
I copied teh GoogleDialer.apk with googleDialer.odex to /system/priv-apps and changed perm to rwrr.
Nothing happened (I thaught this action somehow affects the normal dialer, but now I think there should be an extra icon)

You wont see the dialer after installing the apk. You have to create an icon for it first. You don't need Nova Launcher to use it. I've been running it for a while on my Moto G with the Google Experience Launcher. Install the APK the way the instructions say and when you get to the part about installing Nova Launcher, skip that and install an app called Quick Shortcut Maker. Open Quick Shortcut Maker and scroll down to Google Dialer. After clicking on Google Dialer scroll down until you see Google Dialer phone. There are two of them, click on the first and create the shortcut and you're done. Make sure you have locations on and you might need to clear the data from the phone app in order for it to give you numbers for places in your area.
I dont see the googleDialer anywhere (not in the shortcut maker nor e.g. in titanium Backup as an app to uninstall; like copying the file has no effect.)
When I install the GoogleDialer.apk, the App is uninstallable (havent tried to add this as shortcut yet)

Samsung Dialer?

hi, samsung g935f dialer how to Change miui dialer ?
Install an alternate dialer from Google Play Store that is similar to MIUI one. There's no easy way to replace the embeded dialer as it's tied to other parts of the ROM (call ui, system ui, framework res, and so on)

call screen, does not change ?
Call screen is usually separate from dialer. In some ROMs they are even different apks.
If you install a different dialer, usually just the contacts/dialer is changed, the call screen (incall ui) remains the stock one. In order to have that changed, you need to be rooted and have several other things replaced. Also a different incall ui has to be generated at ROM build time as it is depending on system ui and framework res. You can't just replace files from another ROM.

Nope, only for missed calls. Try to set all the permissions for the app and set it for default dialer if you haven't done this already.
