Can we expect the same Custom RoM and kernels like Nexus 5 support for Pixel, I mean to ask if Pixel is Open enough for developers to develop roms and kernel

Depends. As with other phones, the cost to upgrade for some is a big deal or just don't choose to. I am no developer, but in the past Nexus phones from personal experience, they were open enough. Google welcomes tinkering. Just the fact work has already been done on the bootloader and for root is impressive. But remember, the developers all volunteer their time to this site. We should be grateful. Just my 2 cents.

Noob questions since they're allowed.
Im glad this is here newb thread here! I have a Pixel and love it so far. One thing Im trying to understand is exactly what a kernel is? Is the "boot" image and the kernel the same thing? Can i flash any of the Pixel kernels on my Verizon Pixel?
Thx!

What is a kernel? Is a very generic Android question
try Www.rootjunky.com he has some general Android videos
bootloader will need to be unlocked before flashing different kernels, and still will need to be careful about compatibility

Remember Windows 95? Remember how it ran on DOS 3.1 (a command prompt)?
A kernel is like DOS and Nougat 7.1 is like windows but Android is based on Linux, not Microsoft Windows...
A kernel is like a command engine that goes between hardware and the upper level user software.
That's simplified, but so it goes..
The boot image does hold the kernel, and some other stuff perhaps. The kernel needs to load pretty much as soon as powering device, then the Operating System loads

Can you clear the recent file history from the download app? I tried clicking on the file in there and deleting, but that deletes the actual file.

When you're in the "Downloads app" you are actually looking directly at the /sdcard/Downloads/ folder. That download app is just a simple file browser. If you hit the upper left menu button in the downloads app, you'll see what I mean. A list of locations.. It isn't just a history log but a browser, to repeat for emphasis....
Does that make sense?
I think you might be able to clear any history or cache from a web browser app, but I don't think that's what you're talking about.
Cheers, nerB

Haha, I had to Google DOS. I've heard of Windows 95. Either way, thx for the explanation. That makes sense.

I feel like this may be a stupid question but is it possible to edit build prop with the current root method for Google pixel? I have tried using a few different root file managers and editing the build prop, but every time I reboot the build prop reverts back to its original form. Is there any other way to edit the build prop yet? Maybe using adb? But how would I go about doing that?

There will be, I'm sure. Even if you could find a way to do it, I wouldn't yet. The development community is still starting up, and if something goes wrong, you may not be able to fix it. Have patience, these things will come, they always do.

Anyone had any experience using the Pixel Switch feature, coming from other Android device? I'm wondering whether it will transfer app data properly, especially messaging apps like LINE.

Use a high quality cable that isn't old and worn and you should be able to transfer most data successfully. If not everything you want transfers, I recommend a backup app like My Backup or Titanium Backup

I think I will be doing a manual transfer, since I still want to do the transfer selectively... Thanks for the suggestion.

Always glad to see new devs here. Specially those having a crack at the latest and greatest google has to offer.
A few tips though:
In OP please dont list bugs as: 'Go elsewhere' (or words to that effect). List your issues, even if they are the same as others. While another threads list might be accurate at time of posting if they fix bugs before you their new buglist will no longer match your build. I see this a lot, and it is both very annoying and as i said become inaccurate very quickly.

Thread Cleaned
This is in the correct section, being built from source does not automatically make this OD. As for the complaining users, nobody is forcing you to use this, the devs do this in their own time and dont need abuse for their efforts. If you dont have anything to contribute to the thread, dont post! Now please, any issues, hit the report button, lets not get into open arguments and clutter the thread.
EDIT: Please guys, lets not just post "Thanks" or "Great downloading now" Just use the thanks button and keep the thread clean.

TWRP .3 worked for me and my phone has been picky with 4.4 Roms.
Camera works, GPS works and is the smoothest of all the KK Roms for me.

Had to use CWM also but I got it to work with a little tweak
Pull the file 'updater-script' from mighty-1-20131111-UNOFFICIAL-m7ul.zip\META-INF\com\google\android and either modify the first line to include 'm7tmo' or remove it entirely and it should work fine.
The ROM has the T-Mobile APN already set up so the error is just to make sure people don't flash this ROM on the wrong phone make
Wifi isn't working for me though, tried toggling and rebooting phone but no luck
Does ART work?

Good Info / Thread Rules
Please dont ask for a Change Log. You can find the AOSP commits with comments HERE!
Please dont ask if you need Gapps. Its a google stock ROM!
Please dont ask if you need the bootloader. Either flash it or dont.
Please dont ask if you can dirty flash. You can do what you want. Make a nandroid BEFORE you flash, if it doesnt work out then just restore your nandroid and re-plot your method of flashing.
Please dont post anything other than this ROM specific related questions. This is not a general topic thread about KitKat. Its here to help users install the ROM and ask questions about ROM usage. Its not here to ask questions about other ROM's, getting OTA's or what you think Recovery is capable of. Go to General with that stuff.
Please do NOT post mirrors of my work! I understand you want to help but the only person authorized to mirror my work is me.

Sorry for what may be a silly question but I just want to make sure about boot loader, is their going to be an easy way to revert to older but loader if we want to?
I only ask because on my Asus transformer prime I flashed the newest bootloader and most of the development of new roms are on old bootloader and I have no way of going back because I didn't back up my NV flash file first.

Oh, no. This is nothing like the TF Prime.
This is really open. You should be able to flash back. And, unlike the TF Prime, The nexus 7 ROMS ALWAYS stay up to date.

I flashed the Lollipop factory image and was running that for a while. Then did a full wipe and flashed over to this build. I know the factory image includes a new radio and bootloader but I don't know if that affects calendar sync. Maybe try that method. I also didn't un install the AOSP calendar, I just disabled it and I downloaded and running the Google Calendar.

Vanilla AOSP vs. SimpleAOSP
Hi Adam,
I just see you're also on the Team Members page of SimpleAOSP.
From your point of view, how do the two ROMs differ? Will you continue to work on both of them? Or will one fade out in favour of the other?
Thanks a lot, for your honest opinion and your contributions to the Custom ROM landscape.

I just see you're also on the Team Members page of SimpleAOSP.

There is no comparison really. SimpleAOSP is a true custom ROM. The members on the team have put alot of work into features, tweaks, bug fixes etc. Also I am on the team page but have contributed zero code to the project. I'm more of a fan / friend and tester. I mostly just shoot the sh*t with the guys on the team. I can help make builds but just got started so don't know how to make any changes etc. They are helping me learn though and always willing to give me a hand with issues I have.
This ROM is just the source code that Google provides with Google proprietary binaries included for stability. That's it, I didn't remove, add or change anything in the build that Google didn't provide in the source. So in that sense this is just a build from Google that I uploaded, not really a custom ROM like SimpleAOSP, if that makes sense.
Also I just bought the OnePlus One yesterday and will be selling my Nexus 5. So don't know how much longer I will continue with the Nexus 5 maintenance considering I won't have a device to use to test out prior to uploading a build. I much prefer testing for myself first before releasing to others. But we'll see.

You will have to do some reading in general and q&a sections on how to unlock your bootloader, flash a custom recovery. Then you can download the ROM, gapps if you like and root. Then the instructions in the OP of the thread can be followed. I suggest read re read and then read again before proceeding. Also search and watch youtube videos so you can get examples. There are a lot out there and they really help. Good luck

Thanks for the build... Can you post a screenshot of the app drawer without flashing GApps? I don't use Google on my Nexus 5 and I would see how pure AOSP Lollipop 5.0 would like, essentially I would know which are the stock apps without Google.
Thanks again!
overall, whatever the problem with aosp i like your rom... ROM with PURE AOSP (no modified no any change from AOSP source)... Keep good work bro....
Thanks for the great work.
I just wanted to say thanks! I just found your rom a week or two ago and it's exactly what I was looking for. I prefer AOSP and have always used something thing like Cyanogenmod but there has been and continues to be a bug when you use encryption on the phone and I like my privacy.
Great rom and great work updating it so fast.

catlog error: librpmb.so
thank you for this rom. exactly what I've been looking for.
I've installed the 11th March 5.1 version, but am seeing this message in my catlog:
Code:
03-17 21:50:58.405 E/QSEECOMD: (5591): Init dlopen(librpmb.so, RLTD_NOW) is failed....
is it just me or a bug in the build?

I'm not sure what that message means. You have been the first to bring it up. Were you still able to flash the ROM without and issue and boot into the os?

[MOD][BETA] Advanced Reboot Menu for Tab 3 10.1

Hey folks,
I tried to modify Tab 3 10.1 Wifi Frameworks to natively enable Advanced Reboot Menu
WARNING:
- This hasn't been tested => I don't own a Tab 3 10.1
- This is a very earlier build => It may simply break your tablet or may not work
- This is a ported feature from an ARM CPU to ax86 CPU => It may just freeze your tablet every reboot :silly:
Do you accept all these conditions ?
If yes
Download the file from Mega.co.nz (290Kb)
Reboot to Recovery
Flash It
Reboot,
Long press power button and see if it works.
else,
Do nothing
Tested in my tab, but when I tried to flash the zip with TWRP an error flashing occurred! So for now it's a fail. Sorry.

@ Nonta72
I know I may sound s7up1d but what is "modify Tab 3 10.1 Wifi Frameworks" to natively enable "Advanced Reboot Menu"
What is the relation of "Wifi Frameworks" with "Advanced Reboot Menu"?
I bet you that is why you do not get reply. Another approach is like a Video or Picture of what you are trying to achieve. I have the same situation on my thread. But In my case I do not have anything to show yet. I am just testing various methods and had no real results. Good luck.
Carefully read OP before asking -_-

I am sorry you feel that way. And yes I TOTALY understand, "No one who care". Just because they all are selling this TAB3 10.1 x86. No it is Not because of it. It is a nice and acceptable device. It is just because everyone sooner or latter got tire of not able to do Mods. Source is incomplete and to many proprietary drivers. SAMSUNG, INTEL & GOOGLE please read this fact and learn for the future.
I hope to see you around.

jdeocares hi I guess it is first time we chat. I do not think I was rude with him. First my English as a second language made me read wrong message. I ask my apologies to him. Then he express there is nobody left to test. I totally agree with him.
Regards this project, I do not see what he is trying to accomplish, What is this "Advanced Reboot Menu for Tab 3 10.1". I ask him for and explanation and suggested he post a more graphic method of what he is trying to accomplish.
So the only I could do was to opened the package to get a glips of his work. And found all is store in a "android.policy.jar" that I can not look at. I see his work is base in 4.4.2 KK and I have 4.2.2. So without more explanation or a reason as why I want to pass all the work to backup and install KK, I left.
Nonta72
Like I said I do not see a gain for me. Now without installing I look again inside your zip file. I can only imagine that you are using the wrong "update-binary", my best guess is that that one is for ARM!. Just a guest. I say this because it size is 168kb. The size of that binary usually is around 521kb!!
So try this one.
Here you have a friend. Keep the good work.
Note: Can I see the source of that "android.policy.jar".

You're right, I used an ARM update-binary sorry
You're also right, It's for Android 4.4.2.
About the source of the .jar files; well, I downloaded Tab 3 10.1 KK Firmware from SamMobile.com then deodexed it. Now I'm trying to mod its frameworks without even having the tab on hand!
> Note: I can try to mod JB 4.2.2 frameworks if you're interested in testing.

I don't understand why you would need to be on android 10 for a recovery when the recovery is based off TWRP that works on android 9 and 10? I don't get it.

It is built with and Android 10 Kernel base so you might get issues with Android 9

I'm not going to lie SHRP 2.3 is awesome on my S7. You have magisk manager options inside recovery, themes look nice and new, you have the camera api 2, fingerprint clear options, it really has just about everything. I still think it would be great to allow internet and a web browser I dont know how that would be possible but I could see it. I hope there is a working permissive kernel for android 10 soon.
The best recovery I have ever seen so far !!!
EDIT
Just one request if possible...in file manager there is no function to select multiple files, so if it is possible to add check boxes for multiple selection.
Anyone else unable to mount system with the YouTube vanced installer? I get an error 1.
I have tried turning off the unmount system in the settings.

Well I hate to do this to someone but maybe try TWRP 3.4 that the other developer just made. It's only because the system problems with TWRP 3.3.1 based and Android 10 I'm telling you to try 3.4. So sorry devs know it's kinda crappy to say something in your thread but I believe it's only fair because android 10 doesn't play well with TWRP at the moment. Hopefully the next update by Dee's Troy will be the finally fix to the super partition or dynamic partition as they call it.
---------- Post added at 10:08 PM ---------- Previous post was at 10:01 PM ----------
In all honesty I would bet the devs of this recovery are actually using 3.4 if they already knew about it or if they just found out from me they will switch for now. The nasty part of development is a lot of developers don't use their own updates so that's how you have someone put out a new kernel or ROM thinking it works and everyone says no it's a bootloop. Because they are using some other devs kernel or something that works better and they didn't feel like switching because the ROM, kernel, and TWRP that work the best will be the most popular threads basically.

This looks to be a YT Vanced issue, I suspect the Magisk module has not been updated.
For anyone hitting this error, just install Vanced youtube with SAI, easy as pie!

Yeah that's fine that's how I do it. However it doesn't change the fact that right now on Android 10 you should be on TWRP 3.4 as it correct some of the errors in android 10. Hopefully in a week or 2 they will finish TWRP to work 100 percent with the new super partition and a/b setup. I actually looked up super partitions and actually it make sense because it would allow you to make use of all the space on internal because things can take up what they need to and not extra. Don't get me wrong this recovery updated to TWRP 3.4 source would be better yet but still.
