I plan to open a topic on Nomu S20 the moment I get it.
I have a review of S30
http://forum.xda-developers.com/gen...nomu-s30-rugged-mt6755-4gb-rom-64-gb-t3479684
with TWRP files and info.
If you would like to know more on S20 or S30 or S10 follow my threads or ask

jan177, one more question. Guy from "4pda" asks: Is there a chance to see the port of cyanogenmod ?
As far as I know, developer need have access to the drivers in addition to the desire and the skills? It will be available?
This porting is realistic in the long term in your opinion?

I do not see it as highly happening.

jan177, can you explain: what a purpose of this function: Developer options -> Allow OEM unlocking
I thought it was a software lock of the bootloader, but no: TWRP can be flashed with both states of switcher ((
How I can lock my boot and safe my data?

Also full ROM is missed from mega.nz
Can someone re-upload it again, please?

Anyone from NOMU support? What about new firmware for S20?

It is Android option in case manufacturer wants to use it I think.
In case you want to protect data use encryption and/or software rooter

no problem with your eng.
I do not have any info on new ROM.
There is no contact for now with Nomu and no support.
ROM was placed and removed by NOMU.
Perhaps someone can make a backup and place it for download?
Can you tell what are the problems with S20?
perhaps I will try to help

Hi, had my S20 since mid November. Phone quality seems really good, but last week i noticed the home screen taking a few seconds to start up. Today the screen has failed to come on about 5 times while using it. I have to hold the power button down for about 20 seconds to make it shut down and power back up.
I did a factory rest yesterday and it still has the same fault. There doesn't seem to be any pattern to it failing to start.
I push the power button to open the home screen and get a slight change in the screen, like the back light has come on. I did get the screen come on once and the whole screen went completely white.
Anybody else having any issues?

does this get OTA updates?
and any sign of nougat?

Hi jan177 I have flashed the twrp on my s20 using the provide intruction and files but now my phone is not booting just have the nomu start screen. Can asses the TWRP though.
Can you help me fix this?
thanks alot in advance!
Marina

I have read that the Nomu s20 has a trojan installed on the firmware from the factory, a triada trojan that cannot be removed. Is this true?

Trojan is Triada - manufacturer is silent

Yes, that is true. The trojan is Triada and Kaspersky has made some very nasty blog posts about it.
and I just found it the hard way. Lets just say that I am mighty pissed about it. I came here to look for solutions to get rid of it through switching to a custom rom. If anyone has info on if that works, I would be very interested to hear that. I really like the phone, but the manufacturer just lost all the points from me and went widely into negative (for the trojan, but especially for the lack of response to it).

From what i have read on the Triada issue is that there doesn't seem to be a way of removing it. The Trojan was on the stock S10 firmware as well but can be removed by either downgrading the firmware to 1.0.2 then upgrading OTA to 1.04 or flashing an Archos 50 firmware to the device. I have not seen any updates for removing the virus on the S20 after searching over the last couple of days.
I am glad i read up on the S20 before i bought one but i am also gutted as it would have suited my needs for a work phone perfectly.
I hope you find a solution to remove the Trojan soon. If you do could you post a reply in this thread to let myself and others know ?

Manufacturer totally unresponsive on this

Aye, it looks bad. The only option maybe to try to return the device or put it under a hammer (safer option). I did a factory wipe and it at least helped to identify where the trojan starts its work. It is in module called "Wireless update". The first thing it did was to download to system/app/Fota/AdupsFota.apk what AVG rates it as trojan.downloader.fota.e . I wonder if I do a factory wipe, root the device and remove the wireles update program before it manages to do anything if it would be enough to never allow the trojan to start its work (sounds too simple though).

Sounds quite simple (and a very good idea!) Have you already done it? I have the same problem and would be highly interested in such a solution. Except this trojan issue the Nomu S20 is a great phone.

For information the phone is sold as MTT IDEAL, new brand and model of ADAR , french firm specialized in rugged handled ... With a modified rom v1.7 without malware !!!!!

I have started a new thread to discuss many of the Nomu S20 problems (click here).
With regard to this ROM MTT IDEAL, have you already flashed and tested on Nomu S20? Do you have a link for the ROM? Is it possible to install TWRP and flash Chainfire SuperSu?

There's a new official ROM on needrom.com which purportedly solves the Triada Trojan problem: https://www.needrom.com/download/nomu_s20_common/ I shall be testing it in the coming days.
Update: the uploader himself tried already and states that the ROM is also infected: "Tried already…. no help, All Nomu ROMs are still infected… anybody can help?".

[Q] Need LG Panther & Samsung Taylor Users' Help For Updates

So it seems like we'll need to fight over at the Microsoft forums if we're to try to stay up-to-date. I need you to contribute to my post over at msdn here: http://forums.create.msdn.com/forums/p/78753/476964.aspx#476964
Maybe if enough of us hit'em, we can get some kind of answer. Dev phones should have been the first to be updated.
Still no updates for Taylor.
It says in the forums that you linked to that there will be no updates for the Samsung Taylor phones.

Seems like there won't be and update for LG Panthers either.
Anyone wanna trade for an Android device?
Might be a newb question here but....
Did people have to pay for these developer phones? Or did MS just send them out to registered/respected developers?
I suppose, you can flash your phone with the Omnia 7/Quantum ROM at your own risk.

I would like to give th Quantum ROM a try , but I do not know where to start. I am a Bell user in Canada so I think they have the Quantum. I used to flash old WM and Android Devices all the time, but WP7 is new to me. Anyone have a thread or no if anyone has sucessfully flashed a LG Panther to anything else? I can get into a bootloader, but it is probably just Microsofts bootloader.

Looks like it's really possible, because i succesfully connected to the phone using QXDM, and even downloaded NAND's image (it's raw, so for extracting page size required, because size in the partition table is relative to page size). Though may flash it, i think bootloader will work. But you probably can get bricked device. Unfortunally i have no enough time for explorations.

I think flashing the unbranded Optimus 7 ROM would be the best bet for us. There is a registry key named "HasKeyboard" that's defaulted to 0 that we can change to 1. That might be the way to go. Also I'm wondering if we'd have to go the goldcard method to move over to a Quantum or Optimus rom.
The problem is I don't have another phone and there's no MTTY process to unbrick our phones so I'm a little hesitant to try.

Goldcard isn't required. Only HTC devices require it.
I've dumped my ROM, so if bootloader will work (i hope), device can be easily flashed.
Is anyone wanna to try? QPST can flash certain partitions (looks like only dsp1 and efs are required for succesful update). Unfortunally i can't risk my phone, because i'm developing an application.

Not being rude, but are people complaining that a phone that they received for free is not getting the update and not being continued? If you never paid anything for it in the first place, what are you out then?

I am not sure if it is worthwhile attempting a flash. The problem is we are all developers and having no device is probably not worth the risk. I have not flashed anything WP7 so I am pretty hesitant. Is this the link to flashing info you guys are considering?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=935605
In reading the other threads, there is no real confirmation on the Panther not getting updated. It is clear the the Taylor will not. I am curious if we are running the exact ROM that another device is? If so, ROM from those devices may work. I am trying to remember what the download name was (was it Pacific or something?). I deleted the file. If I still had it I would consider giving flashing a try. I wish Microsoft had not shut down the microsoft connect site for these phones. Any thoughts?

I got mine off of eBay due to it being the best keyboard phone out at the time (the Quantum is a joke), so it wasn't free for me. Once we get a HTC 7 Pro here that's compatible with AT&T's 3G bands, I'll switch over to that.

I was thinking more the Europe Open Optimus 7 rom here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=935578
Like you said, I can't be without a device so I'm really hesitant to try flashing
Well there is going to be a point where and update or feature will make our phones aka gw910 or Taylor completely useless as for development or testing, so this is something to consider.
Yeah connect has been down since a long time ago I have been struggling to find the FW file provided in the msdn/connect/internet forums, I’m guessing the only way now is to contact either a developer/evangelist/god/msdn who has that file available in storage, with the firmware we can create our own updated custom FW way easier than creating one from scratch and/or experiment with other FW like the optimus 7/Q.
And idea can we consider spoofing the gw910 to an optimus 7/Q .7004 using the registry editor? Making ZUNE update just the components needed.
also im willing to give it a go flashing mi gw910 UsellesGuy any info on how can i dump mi firmware. and posible explanation as in how to recover.I read the bootloader post before but is there anything else i need ?

Microsoft delivers updates using binary patches, they apply only to concrete file version, else they will be broken (or updating will be failed).
Thank you, but i think better way is to wait a bit, until situation about updates will clear up. If update will be not received - i'll begin my work

On twitter I've tired contacting @winphonesupport as far as our phones being updated. They replied: "Let us see if our team knows and we'll get back to you. ^EB"

quick question about updating a developer device
Hi
I'm a complete newby about wp7.
I've two Optimus 7 in my possession that seem to be developer devices.
Here the phones info:
OS Version: 6516Mainline
SW Version: LG-E900AT-00-V08d-ORG-UK-JUL-24-2010
HW Version: E
More info:
OS Version: 6516Mainline (buildlab).20100713-1228
Firmware revision number: 0.8.4.10
Hardware revision number: 0.1.5.0
Bootloader version: 1.4.1.0
Chip SOC version: 0.30.2.0
Now I've tried to update the firmware like in this post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=935578
But it doesn't work (LGDP2 connect to phone start the update but give the error 1002)
Is there a way to flash these phones to be like normal phones? (I don't intent to develop on them) Or my hardware version is to old (prototype)
Thanks for the help

so you are relying on a dev phone that MS was gracious enough to give you as your only device and are complaining that you didn't get the update???
edit: after reading your replies, this wasn't a publicly released phone, so if you don't get the updates, I don't feel you have a complaint.

[Q] Cyberpad iView 7xx TPC Rooting?

Anyone doing any "development" rooting, firmware flashing, CWmods etc on iView tablet/phones?
I found someone who did actually...named: eyeoncomputers (hey there!) who made a very comprehensive and excellent Youtube tutorial seen here (I hope this is allowed), titled:
IVIEW 760TPC Advanced Improvements - Flashing Firmware, Custom Scripts & more...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fATLTulwdQg
So now, at least I know it can be done on an iView....
I'm tempted to just go for it....unfortunately, a 760TPC spec is pretty much too far off from a 792 TPC model (dual sim phone capabilities + 2G/3G + GPS/A-GPS connectivities which will most likely get messed up) if I flash it...and without any firmware back-up I'd most likely brick it before I could say I have root!)
Basically...I just want the 792 TPC rooted (for backing up purposes Titanium back up needs root right?)....so has anyone done it yet? or knows how to do it? or maybe an idea on how to go about it? Anyone? :-?

My friend have an Iview-795TPC tablet but seems like a different story for them.
One of the kids or someone changed the lock pattern and one day the owner tried to open and locked after several attempts of trials.
Now, it asks for an email account and password of the (last) user who created and accessed the tablet but even the owner's account (email & password) seems like can't open it.
I also tried the HARD RESETTING of this gadget because when they sent it to me to do the remedy or fix it back to factory settings, I cannot undo it. Even I followed all the instructions and step-by-step procedures on the YouTube video, still cannot restore it.
Is anybody successfully tried to restore back to factory setting of this IView Tablet Model 975TPC?
I appreciate it to someone help me on this situation. Link or simple tutorial-instructions can do.
Thanks in advanced.

iview 797tpc
I just purchased the Iview 797 TPC with jellybean 4.1.2.
These just released mid 2013, and have been looking all over for firmware, etc.
Not much out there for these models.
I had it connected to PC and the phone icon on desktop through media espresso said HTC generic.
So possibly these are clones of HTC.
These tabs are excellent except for the sound, they are to quiet for playback and handset volume.
So my question is can developers put aside the higher end models and get some ROMs for a Iview.
I would at least like to get jellybean 4.3 or even a piece of that KitKat .......
Flash / install the firmware

Brand New OnePlus One rooted and with adware etc
I am a very newbie to not all but many of the particular issues in this post so would be grateful of any newbie taylored advice.
Background:
==============
I purchased a Oneplus one recently, stocked and fulfilled by amazon with amazon returns policy but seller was a chineese company.
It was advertised as 100% Original Oneplus One New Cell Phone
The phone arraived and appeared to already be rooted
evidence:
Barclays App says it is rooted and won't run. It ran fine on my Nexus 4
I can connect via adb and set to su straight away
The phone appeared to have arrived with significant malware / adware with popups and auto launch ad in browser pages and bloteware / PUPS(?), and other issues. After a great deal of research checking notifications and trial and error I disabled the following, some via settings\apps some via adb, pm ... disable ...
2048 (com.digiplex.game)
App Manager (com.shyz.steward)
Browser (com.android.browser)
Caller ID (com.android.tools.callassistant)
Clean Master (com.cleanmaster.mguard)
Cool Browser (com.cool.coolbrowser)
DU Speed Booster (com.dianxinos.optimizer.duplay)
Magic Photo (cn.dotui.magicphoto)
Videos (com.haolianluo.video)
and disabled gestures due to torch issues
The phone now seems quite stable.
I installed MalwareBytes, however None of the items it identifies is it able to disable/uninstall I set it not to scan automatically but it continues to tell me I have not responded to its list of issues, but I have responded by selected them, but on selection it tries to uninstall them but fails.
I was able to disable one of them via adb because it provided the package name for that one but:
CallerID.apk (disabled in settings\apps)
coolbrowser.apk (disabled in settings\apps)
201507140923731g.apk
AppStore.apk
I do not know how to uninstall (or disable at least on 2 of them) and I do not know how to refer to them from package manager because I don't have the package name.
Key Questions:
================
I am familiar with much of software engineering and programming but not with mobile phone OS / disk / memory / file system, etc. I am having a lot of difficulty getting to grips with the vocabulary, definitions and terminology depending what you read.
- Some say OnePlus from factory comes with cyanogenmod but is not rooted
- So one wonders how my phone go to be rooted if the seller is a retailer
- Some say if the phone is rooted the warentee is invalidated. What do you think?
- WhatsApp says the phone has a custom rom and watsapp may not work properly with a custom rom
It is very difficult to get to the bottom of exactly what the difference is between a stock rom
and a custom rom. Some seem to be saying cyanogenmod is a custom rom, but then others say what
comes on the phone from the mobile manufacturer is a stock rom, eg HT Sense or in the case of
OnePlus, cyanogenmod! Is it only a custom rom if it is somehow NOT proven to be a
custom rom validated by the mobile manufacturer in factory (i.e. stock rom)?
- Some say having a custom rom invalidates warrantee, is this right?
- How do i prove that the rooting and the custom rom were not introduced by me?
- I have thought about factory reset, but I cannot manage to find anything that tells
me what this actually means and does, only how to do it.
- does a factory reset actually do what it suggests. I have read that factory reset does
not involve going to the manufacturers site and obtaining an appropriate image and flashing
it to the phone so I do not quite understand how else it could guarantee it
- If a factory reset will just make it like it was when I received it then that I do not want.
- Can I and ought I to flash a fresh image on the phone to get it like it WOULD HAVE been
had I bought it from OnePlus factory on invite and not through a mediator
- Finally. There is a notification "System Update is ready" . When I select this it appears
to download something (next version of cyanogenmod I guess though I don't recognise the version
number against any cyanogenmod versions) then it restarts and goes to a recovery app.
At this stage it is not completely intuitive what one should do and it seems to want you
to navigate to a location.
Now, I think I could probably figure this out with some reading but two things come to mind:
1) Presumably for a from factory OnePlus phone this kind of ambiguous unintuitive update
process would not be going on for people who just bought their phone and knew nothing
so it suggests the phone is in a different state to that. I also read you need root
already to install a (good) recovery app.
2) I am loath to do this update since it is not clear whether the update is this retailers
system update and will reintroduce all that I have disabled to create stability. Therefore
up to now I have always selected just do nothing and reboot. I favor stability over
features.
I am kind of inclined now I have managed to get it stable to just stick with it as it is and just use it without any further updates / resets / flashes and without returning it, but...
Sorry to ask all these questions. I would be grateful of any advice. Can be given with the assumption that I understand foundational general stuff ram, rom (though this word seems to be used differently to what I'm used to), flash, image, partition etc, but not that I actually know all about how the android/cyanogenmod platform is laid out and behaves as an installation.
Thank you.
Hi, All Oneplus One phones comes with CyanogenMod without rooted. One must Unlock bootloader and Flash custom recovery and Flash SuperSu to get root access.
Yours already says rooted means either you bought the used phone or refurbished. However even when a phone is refurbished OnePlus company locks it and make it unrooted.
OnePlus Phones warranty doesn't get over bu rooting. OnePlus actually supports rooting. Warranty becomes void when you do something blunder while flashing and your devices becomes dead aka bricked.
What I am suspecting is the chinese seller bought new OnePlus and Installed different ROM as the chinese OPO comes with ColorOS which doesn't have PlayStore. Now in the procedure they introduced unwanted Adwares which may be Intentional or Unintentional.
Now you have 2 options.
Either ask Amazon for a refund.
Or if the time is passed then I suggest you to start fresh. If you have already custom recovery installed then go ahead and install fresh stock CyanogenMod ROM from xda.
sent from Bacon (OnePlus One)
Hi Abhinav_Rakesh,
Thank you so much for your response, I really appreciate your advice. I think I understood most of what you said, generally but I am still a bit unclear on some points:
Is there any way to tell if the phone is refurbished. I would rather it were new even if they have installed a different rom.
What do you mean by "time is passed" I have only had the phone a few days. I am in a quandary whether to return it or not, whether amazon will believe it was not me who rooted it and whether I will be able to get another one that is not just the same as this one anyway since you cannot get them direct from OnePlus any more.
I saw some kind of recovery screen over one reboot but did not do the install. How do I know if this is the "custom recovery" you describe, if it is not how do I obtain / get to "custom recover"?
Can you direct me to a script that shows me how to "install fresh stock CyanogenMod ROM from xda"? Will that completely blank out everything that the chineese company may have done on the phone, or might some stuff still be left behind? Is there a risk to that process, given that I at least have a fairly stable phone now? Will it include or do I have to get separately "PlayStore" so I can download my usual apps?
Thank you again, I really appreciate it?
i suggest you to start from fresh, since obviously your OPO is not in stock state and has been tampered with..
the (general) steps to make the OPO like new are as follows..
(1) connect it to a pc via usb cable
(2) in command prompt, issue "adb reboot bootloader" (and wait for it to boot into bootloader/fastboot mode)
(3) issue "fastboot oem unlock" (to unlock the bootloader.. all data will be wiped but the warranty is not voided)
(4) issue "fastboot flash recovery custom_recovery.img" (replace "custom_recovery.img" with the actual recovery file name)
(5) power off mobile and disconnect from pc
(6) press power button together with volume down button (to boot into custom recovery we just flashed)
(7) while in recovery, install rom image (which should be put in the internal storage beforehand)
(8) reboot to enjoy the reborn mobile
to be able the complete the above steps, you need to get some files in advance:
- adb.exe/fastboot.exe (which you should already have since you could do adb)
- custom recovery (TWRP suggested.. get the image for OPO, whose codename is bacon, at http://twrp.me/ ), and put it in your pc..
- stock or custom rom (the stock for OPO is cyanogenmod, and there is also a OnePlus provided OxygenOS rom.. go to respective sites to get a copy), and put it into the mobile's internal storage..
mind you that by doing so (the fastboot oem unlock step) all your mobile's data will be wiped..
@hardya Hi .. You can follow this link to restore your phone according to OnePlus Standards. This will remove all that chinese ads and all and will make it fresh.

There is a little misconception about what cyanogenmod is.
The offical Oneplus One comes preinstalled with CyanogenOS (or CM12S), which is derived from Cyanogenmod. It get's a bit complicated. Cyanogen is a company founded by the lead programmer of Cyanogenmod. CyanogenOS is a commercial product, that is licensed to phone manufactures.
Cyanogenmod is the codebase for CyanogenOS. CyanogenOS adds some functionalities that are not present in the community maintained Cyanogenmod. (e.g. a alternate dialing app, theme store, etc.)
The offical Oneplus One comes NON-rooted. You need to manually enable root.
Please keep in mind that it gets REALLY complicated from this point!
The Oneplus One debuted with CM11S (CyanogenOS, the commercial version of Cyanogenmod). Cyanogen (the company) promised users 2 years of support and updates for the owners on the Oneplus One. But Oneplus and Cyanogen had some major issues that resulted in ending the partnership.
Oneplus had to offer an alternative Android Firmware for their upcoming phone Oneplus Two. So they did another android version called OxygenOS. This was installed onto all Oneplus One phones from a certain date onward!
THIS is the OFFICAL Android Software Version for your Oneplus One!!!
See: https://oneplus.net/de/support/answer/how-can-i-download-oxygen-os
I would strongly recommend to install OxygenOS, as it is the easiest way of experience the phone as Oneplus intended it to be.
Most tutorials on here are a little bit older so they are offering guides which mention either CM11S, CM12S, Cyanogenmod or OxygenOS. (or if you are more familiar with other customroms, whatever you'd like to install! But this is something you should look into, when you are more familiar with what costumroms are and what they do! There are so many excellent guides on here, which i'd recommend you to read sometime!)
- So one wonders how my phone go to be rooted if the seller is a retailer
Click to collapse
He rooted it either manually or used an android version (e.g. something downloaded off XDA or got one from some developer). Such versions are often called Customroms.
Also note, that there are no official retailers of Oneplus phones. They are officially offered from the website only. However, there are some shops in China, that offer Oneplus phones.
- Some say if the phone is rooted the warentee is invalidated. What do you think?
Click to collapse
Most phone manufactures actually tell you that your warranty is void when rooting your phone.
Oneplus however is very, very supportive when it comes to rooting!
And of course installing other Android Versions and Roms!
See: https://oneplus.net/de/support/answer/will-rooting-or-unlocking-the-bootloader-void-my-warranty
- WhatsApp says the phone has a custom rom and watsapp may not work properly with a custom rom
It is very difficult to get to the bottom of exactly what the difference is between a stock rom

Cyanogenmod is indeed a custom rom. (or sometimes aftermarket firmware)
See: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CyanogenMod
A stock rom is the firmware that is installed by the manufacturer. (in your case: CyanogenOS, called CM12S. the 12 stands for the version number of Cyanogenmod. 12 = Android 5, 13 will be Android 6. There was a CM11S version, when the phone debuted last year.). The S marks it as CyanogenOS, the commercial product. So CM12 would be the community maintained Cyanogenmod. CM12S the product by the company Cyanogen. As said before, it's a bit complicated, as the current OFFICIAL rom is OxygenOS
Your findings of software not present in the official stock Oneplus One rom (which is either CM12S or OxygenOS), suggests your software on the phone is actually a unofficial costum rom.
- Some say having a custom rom invalidates warrantee, is this right?
Click to collapse
See the answer to the rooting question. Almost all major phone manufactures void your warranty if you flash a custom rom. As it involves tampering with system files and most people are not very knowledgeable when it comes to "computery things". It's just a security measure, so that people won't sue the company when something bad happens (most likely deleting precious pictures, etc.)
Oneplus actually encourages people to try other roms. This made the Oneplus One a very popular phone for tinkerers and as you can see on this forum there are a lot of custom roms you can choose from.
- How do i prove that the rooting and the custom rom were not introduced by me?
Click to collapse
If the seller was not so careful, there will be a notice, which can be read by software programs available here on XDA, that say how many times a custom rom was installed.
However, i think your main concern is, that you wouldn't be able to get support form Oneplus, because you think your warranty is not valid anymore. As said above, your concerns are not that problematic. Especially as you seem to be knowledgeable enough to actually fix things on your own!
- I have thought about factory reset, but I cannot manage to find anything that tells
me what this actually means and does, only how to do it.

A factory reset will delete all your apps and reset the system to the state"it came out of the factory". So when you start up your phone, you need to set it up again. Enter your name, configure your WiFi settings, install your favorite apps.
However. Your photos and your music files will not be deleted! Be careful though. Resetting your system will delete your app settings. I just want to point that out, because the first time a did a factory reset and reinstalled everything i thought i lost all my Whatsapp photos. They were there in the Picture folder, but weren't linked to the images in my chat window! This is a bit complicated, but can be solved quite easily, if you know what your doing (backing up your apps with certain programs, e.g. Titanium Backup).
- does a factory reset actually do what it suggests. I have read that factory reset does
not involve going to the manufacturers site and obtaining an appropriate image and flashing
it to the phone so I do not quite understand how else it could guarantee it
Click to collapse
Factory reset is a internal function of your phone (to be precise of your phones recovery!)
However, as most people said and your suspected is: Your phone does not run the official factory image, provided by Oneplus (or Cynaogen).
The official software can be obtained from
https://oneplus.net/de/support/answer/how-can-i-download-oxygen-os
- If a factory reset will just make it like it was when I received it then that I do not want.
Click to collapse
Yes it will most likely to what you fear. It depends on what the retailer did. Most costum roms include software in their phones, that will be installed again with a factory reset. If your seller did install the programs AFTER the phones original state (e.g installing it from an appstore or from the APK's (Androids Software Packages)) they won't be present!
- Can I and ought I to flash a fresh image on the phone to get it like it WOULD HAVE been
had I bought it from OnePlus factory on invite and not through a mediator
Click to collapse
Absolutely! I'd recommend you to flash a new image to your phone!
There are a lot of great programs here on XDA that offer easy and intuitive options of doing that, without even knowing anything about flashing programs! Try to take a look around and see what you can make of it.
I personally think they are great, but can be dangerous if you didn't read the proper instructions. I'm just saying, as they often delete EVERYTHING on your phone. So whatever you do to your phone, backup everything before!!!
But these simple programs are what you are looking for. They will install the firmware (Cyanogenmod or OxygenOS) that are bloatfree and as the Oneplus intended them to be.

This further suggests, that your are not running an official version. The official update process is fully automated and doesn't need any user intervention! From your description it doesn't do anything and you are stuck in recovery, that is waiting for user input. This is not the case with proper official roms!
Now, I think I could probably figure this out with some reading but two things come to mind:
1) Presumably for a from factory OnePlus phone this kind of ambiguous unintuitive update
process would not be going on for people who just bought their phone and knew nothing

You do not need root to install a recovery. This is a bit complicated, as there are some misconceptions about what is what. You need to "unlock" your phone to install another recovery. This is not rooting, but is also restricted by many manufacturers. But as with rooting, Oneplus is offering support on unlocking your phone and there are lots of guides on how to do it.
2) I am loath to do this update since it is not clear whether the update is this retailers

I would strongly recommend to NOT leave it this way! As you yourself found out, there are chances that there are programs on the phone, that are not to be supposed to be there. I'm not saying that there is spyware on your phone, but it is most likely that there could be malicious code running in the background of your phone. I would strongly recommend NOT to use apps, that need sensitive information of yourself!
Try to look for guides and tutorials here on XDA and just install CM12S, Cyanogenmod or even better OxygenOS, the official ROM from Oneplus! OxygenOS is not everyone's favorite choice, but that way you can be sure, that NOTHING fishy is going on on your phone!
There is an easy app available from the offical oneplus site!
https://oneplus.net/de/support/answer/how-can-i-download-oxygen-os
Or use the app that is mentioned in the post above! Will to the same thing!
Use the instructions on there and you are much safer on using your phone than you are in the present state!
BUT PLEASE, PLEASE DO A BACKUP OF YOUR DATA! I mean, your photos, contacts and everything important before doing anything to your phone. I'm just stressing that out, as so many people complain afterwards that they lost everything, etc.! Not just because the process they did was unsafe, but becaus the didn't properly read the instructions that tell people that they should make a backup, BEFORE tampering the system. It says factory RESET, so it should be clear, that everything will be reset!
I'd suggest you return it and get one through official channels. Official OnePlus devices can only be purchased through the OnePlus store.
I'd suggest you to read this story:

I must say I appreciate the significant amount of time you have taken and I do hope that at least some of your responses were cut and pasted from text you had already written else where.
I think I may have a number of minor follow up questions, but for now I shall digest your advice and decide on my plan of action.
Thank you again for being so helpful and understanding.

I actually didn't read much of it and the comments, but I'd suggest you to unlock the bootloader, flash TWRP, take a backup, wipe everything(not the internal storage of course) , and perform a clean flash of CM13.0 by sultanxda. It's the smoothest and the most stable ROM out there.
Well, that was all in brief. You gotta read(and understand) and perform. It's fun, just like programming. Keep flashing!

a lot of what I read, like on the oneplus site or the way links are named seems to suggest that OxygenOS is just for OnePlus Two. I believe that OnePlus One moved to OxygenOS at some point, but I don't want to apply an OS version to a device that is under resourced. Is there a version of OxygenOS that the OnePlus One should not go beyond.

However I understand that the genuineness of OxygenOS images are not provided by OnePlus, is this right?
_forums_oneplus_net_threads_mirrors-for-official-oxygen-os-roms-and-ota-updates_387615
How do confirm the genuineness of OxygenOS images?
Is it a kind of hierarchy of trust, i.e. n users use and recommend this location for the images.
Or is there some kind of standard hash for the images that is published on secure OnePlus site?
I have similar issue / understanding issue with CM12S
It would appear after roaming around forums etc that the official Cyanogen OS (not mod/custom) are located below here _builds_cyngn_com_ but the site itself seems to have no web pages I visit cyngn.com_get-cyanogen-os but can find no page with a list of rom images and their corresponding dates, attributes and inclusions etc.
I hear that some versions of CM12S do not support 64GB (as per my OPO) but I seem to have no clear certified single source way to know exactly the name/url of the CM12S I should get.
I am probably misunderstanding the philosophy behind things, but it seems if anyone can do anything with the source you would think that OnePlus would into the bargin also provide users (of which there will be a variety) a "sure fire" way to get their (grey market?) phone to (original) factory standard. They still apparently cover it for warentee, so...
Many thanks
P.S. How do I get your XDA user name to appear as a link?

Boot loop after twrp restore of original Nandroid on gt-n8013

Howdy
Not sure where to start asking for help. Here is where I'm at :
Twrp (2.8.6?) works great... Too good
Used it to create a complete Nandroid of my original (jb) system.. I backed up everything I could see.
Installed a blisspop rom that also worked.
Decided to return to the original system .
In twrp did factory reset, advanced wipe of dalvic cache, data, and system each time.
Did restore with md5 check. 6 md5's all good, no failures
Restore from Nandroid file on ext micro sd. Everything successful. No fails reported anywhere.
Reboot. System tries to start but returns to twrp instead of booting to system. Have done this 3 times with same results.
My stock was something like UEUCOI1.
I hate to have to start over but will if that's the best I can do. If so I don't know where to proceed from here. Where to locate a stock room
Any suggestions are much appreciated,
Best regards,
Dr Dan

Ok, I have seen what you have done. You installed and did too many things at once on TWRP! If you do that you will get a bootloop or a soft-brick which is very common. If I ever got stuck I just downloaded Samsung Smart Switch for Windows.
1st: Turn off your tablet/phone.
2nd: Press More then Emergency software recovery and initialization.
3rd: Press Device initialization.
4th: Take off your cover of your tablet/phone and see the sticker for the Model Number and the Serial Number and type it in.
5th: Sit back and wait for 10 - 120 minutes and it should be done!
(Not all steps have been written down in this post. You'll see it in the Smart Switch app for Windows.)
That should do it!
Hope I helped,

Hi Jonathan,
I got the back cover off and found something that I suspect is the serial number. It is SNR32CB01G4SN. Does that seem right to you? Inside the back cover (plastic) is KIGDSW1102 504B. Regardless it never asks for a serial number.
Your instructions call for a model number. I could not find one inside the back cover. The smart switch PC app is calling for a model name. There is no place for a serial number. The app will not accept GT-N8013 in the name space nor will it accept Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1.
I don't know what other info I can give it. What do you recommend?

Update :
After experimenting and pushing a bunch of buttons I was able to get it to accept the model name as GT-N8013 and the serial number as written above except that I omitted the first 2 letters (SN). The search then reported...

Update. Upon reading about smart switch it says it is only good for devices with android 4.3 or higher. This tablet in its last update was 4.1.2. The last rom I had (Blisspop) was 5.1.1 but I doubt samsung would accept that as valid software.
Conclusion, smart switch is a dead end. I'm hoping to make either gnoba or hyperdrive rom work but am having a hard time getting the files needed. Also cannot make Sammobile site work so I cannot get the original firmware to flash.
I'll keep swinging as long as I can.

I actually starting to think that twrp is just not the right recovery for Note 10.1. When I was trying to flash the original software it happened to me too. It just has a bug or insufficiency to install system on some roms. Here is what I did:
-Installed gnabo rom for a system base. I STRONGLY SUGGEST THAT YOU FLASH THE SAME BASED ROM WITH THE ROM YOU WANT TO FLASH.
-Wipe everything EXCEPT system.
-Flash the rom you want. In my case it was the stock rom.
Well, not a proper, solid solution but if it's working, who cares?
Hi furkey,
I also saw the gnabo room. I got 6 files...
Gnabo room v8
N801x+v6. Zip
Update-supersu-v1. 99.zip
Gt-n8013-kk-WiFi -fix .zip
Stock-gt-n8000-leaked-kk-boot.img-cwr-installer.zip (really a convoluted name?)
V8-final-fix.zip
I was unable to get the kernal. Each attempt sent me to the playstore to install Mega drive. I have it already installed and am fully subscribed but...
I wrote Mikyno (the creator of gnabo) asking for help but never heard back.
The morass of gnabo files is bewildering. I don't know what I need and don't need and how or with what tools to load them.
I'm pretty sure I need the kernal as I understand it the kernal is the interface between hardware and software. Without it and without some guidance or support from the creator I gave up.
Then I spent a couple of days trying to locate a 4.1,2 stock firmware (ready to give up on roms altogether) . There were several published but all links have expired and the posters do not respond. Sammobile requires a puzzle be solved to register. I spent several hours trying to make my tablet move a puzzle piece. No success.
Finally I gave up and reloaded the blisspop I'd installed to start this journey. It is a bit flakey at times but it's all I have. I cannot go forward and cannot go backward.
Any directions you can send my way are much appreciated.
Dr Dan
Hello,
I too am experiencing this. I really can't throw this device away. I have even tried a stock rom from high on android. Downloaded and used odin to flash to no avail. I hope anyone will have an answer or another stock rom or anything!
Thank you!
Tony
Hi badteddy,
Perhaps we can work this out together. I'd like to try out the stock rom you have. I went to the site but was unable to search very well at all and could not find any stock roms. Can you send me a download link to it? I assume it is for the UEUCOI1 build. I think anything close should work. I also assume your tablet is the GT-N8013 Wifi only version.
Have you loaded the blisspop rom and twrp both? I have both working as advertised with a minor improvement.
Looking forward to hearing from you ,
Dan

Dr. Dan!
of course! here's the link:
http://rootgalaxynote.com/galaxy-note-10-1-2/how-to-unrootunbrick-galaxy-note-10-1-factory-firmware/
the link to download the rom is here:
http://stockroms.net/file/GalaxyNote10.1/N8013/N8013UEALI3_N8013XARALI3_XAR.zip
i have not tried the blisspop rom. I believe I was using the latest twrp.
Just do what I said in the first place. It worked out for me and I have a strong feeling that it will work out for you too (well, hopefully). You can use just the main rom file, not thinking others are required too. Or you can simply flash the tab s sensation rom instead of gnabo rom. It can be found in this page: http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-note-10-1/development/gnabo-rom-x-tab-s-feature-t3164779. Notify me if you succeed or not.
And do not forget to mention me otherwise I may not notice that you have wroten to me.

Hi Tony,
Thanks much for the links. That site has always given me grief. When I select download it simply takes me back to the same page to select download again etc. This time your 2nd link worked! Great day. I got the file, unzipped it, removed the ". Md5" extension and ran the md5 Checker. It failed. I hope you checked yours before installing it. Is there any other place I can get that file. Upon returning to the same page to dl the file again I got stuck back in the old circle I have always found myself in.
On anther note; I think furkey is stepping in to help. He wants us to try the gnabo rom. It looks good but there are 7 files needed. I don't know if furkey was referring to you or to me in his last post. I'll ask and see. I think he can easily clear the air on what is needed to load gnabo.
I also am using the latest twrp (2.8.6 I think).
I'll get back when I learn more.

Hi furkey,
Thanks much for stepping in. I'm assuming you mean me instead of (possibly in addition to) badteddy.
I'd never heard of the tab s rom. It looks really good. The gnabo scares me a little. My concern is you likely have flashed more support software than I. What works for you may well crash mine.
The tab s rom was given without an md5 so I can only hope I got a good download.
Once I've rebuilt my courage I'll give it a go and report back to you (and badteddy) with results.
Best regards,
Dr Dan
I don't recall a stylus on the tab s. Does this rom support the active stylus? Do you know if there is an addon that will include support of not? I'll also ask the creator but I've yet to hear back from any rom maker save the sweet lady that made the blisspop rom.... Needy blonde.

It's not a Tab S rom. It's a Note 10.1 rom with Tab S features in it like new touchwiz, file explorer and etc. Your s-pen will work on this rom.

OK. I tried out the Tab S Sensation Rom. It is outstanding. Here is a link that shows what I did,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=67440486&postcount=342
Furkey recommended it and he was spot on!
I was never able to dl the link you gave but I did find the file and checksum on a different mirror. I finally got it but have no use for it as the tab s room works better than the stock.
Enjoy,
Dr Dan

You are the greatest. That rom is everything you said it would be. Wish I'd found it 2 years ago.

Update :
After experimenting and pushing a bunch of buttons I was able to get it to accept the model name as GT-N8013 and the serial number as written above except that I omitted the first 2 letters (SN). The search then reported...
"'GT-N8013' does not support initializing. Please contact our service center."
Looks like I'm still up the proverbial Creek. Stuck in TWRP never never land.
Thanks for trying ,
Dr Dan

Hello, drdan123,
I am Jonathan Kang, and I'm using my secondary account.
So try to use Samsung Kies because it probably supports older devices. Smart Switch is for the newer devices. I hope I helped!

[Completed] Can Clockwork or another recovery program find and backup your truly stock ROM?

My question current is really about better understanding something in this whole Root and Linux learning adventure I think I am totally confused about.
Basically if no custom ROM exist or your device is not listed on the supported list of devices in any recovery program....
OR as in my case you want desperately to get the thing back running on it's true stock what do you do?
Your rooted, but stuck.
So my main question is:
What is the best way to bring a device back to stock if there is no stock ROMs available and factory reset will not work?
On any device in this situation. Mostly I am hoping to have it explained in a way I can really finalize this confusing hole in my logic.
Like can a recovery program find it if it is still on the device somewhere and if not, why not?
Thanks in advance.
Additional backstory if helpful.
I have a Wacom Cintiq Hybrid running Android 4.1 that is ( now ) rooted..
This is a very bad thing. The Real Stock ROM has palm rejection and all the drivers to make it work as a tool. So stock is the ideal but it is clearly not stock as my device supposedly came in the
box running 4.2 and with software and drivers to make it work properly with the pen. This has nothing. No software and the smallest amount of apps possible. Worse this is no custom ROM its on ( I think) as it would be the worst one ever and it was not rooted on arrival. I have no idea what happened before I got it. I may have made the mistake of rooting it really as I found out to my dismay there is no ROM support. So back to square one. I bought it ( very cheap for one of these ) "stuck and unable to go to the play store" and I did not realize until I got it, on a version of Android it was not meant for. Wacom is totally and woefully unhelpful in every way. They seem to want to quietly put this device behind them at the expense literally of their customers.
I have discussed this problem in another thread if more details on all this specific to this device are of interest.

Hello & welcome to xda-assist,
If you rooted the device you changed the system /kernel in the process, if root is all you done you should be able to unroot by using the unroot option in your root management application, if you did further changes like deleting system apps and so on it gets more complex, the best and easiest way to get back to the original state would be a copy of the latest firmware.. If it doesn't exist you're somewhat out of luck, please refer to this link for further help & information..

Thanks for the reply. So no way to get the extract the original firmware? I don't wish to un-root. The device was set to a very sad state of affairs when I got it, unrooted, with something very unlike the stock firmware and factory date reset not helping at all. Persistently locked into a lower version of Android than it was not meant for and not running the drivers or software it would seem I need to make it function properly that came with the device.
Basically it lead to my curiosity of how one goes about extracting or mining the data that is stored somewhere on the device if all I did was root. Which is all I did.
It should still be there. Basically how do I get to it?
The link takes me back to the forums for help, however I found no help there after much searching before I asked here but thanks

The intended of xda-assist is to direct you to the most suitable board of xda, we do not solve issues for you or do technical support, please be patient, it often takes time for exotic devices / questions to be seen by someone who can give hints and answers..
Edit: but it's not that the original firmware is stored somewhere on the device by default where you can grab it and reinstall it..

Totally cool. It's a tough question.
The OG firmware thing is the toughest part to understand. Just wanted to make sure I was clear in my explanation and question.
