Allo vs Pixel Assistant - Google Pixel Questions & Answers

Noticed that Pixel assistant is different to Allo assistant.
For instance you can't subscribe to anything using Pixel Assistant?
Maybe it's just me but seems strange having two.

Yeah I'm noticing different results for the same inquiries, or things that one can do but the other can't. Google has a confused approach to a few things on this phone.
There's four ways to get to google. The traditional predictive search, proactive google now, the voice assistant, and the chat assistant. And the chat assistant only exists within Allo, their IM app. Well besides Hangouts, which also does SMS. Even though they also have an SMS app. Actually, two SMS apps if you have a Verizon SIM. Four messaging apps, three capable of SMS, two capable of IM, but only one has Assistant. All preloaded.
Does that make sense to anyone?

[Q] Google Voice SMS via native app

Hey guys I havent been able to find anything current as if this was possible on android device.. I have JB IP4 and im using google voice sms through bitesms as my native app using the sms google voice extension. The way it works is that when the google voice app sends a push notification on the phone the google voice sms extension catches the push notification and sends it through bitesms as a normal sms. That way I was able to ditch the unlimited sms plan from ATT. Is something like that possible on android? Thats huge for me since 20 bucks a months is a damn ripoff. And i do lots and lots of txting lol. Thanks for any info =)
I've been an SMS GV Extensions user since it launched and finally bought an Android phone last week.
I took it for granted that Android would either do this already or be able to do this more easily (iOS required a jailbreak), but I instead find that you can only integrate incoming messages with the native Android messaging app and there doesn't seem to be a solution even with rooting your phone. This is disappointing, to say the least.
The fact that the Android GV app has an option in integrate inbound messages with the native messaging application but not outbound implies that is is a deliberate decision on Google's part because it is an obvious feature that is only half implemented. It is probably less a concern with cutting into the carriers' SMS revenue and more to do with constraining use of the service (Google has taken actions to curb heavy use in the past). If it integrated seemlessly, people would use it more.
This is something Google is just going to have to get over if they hope to remain competitive. There is some hope in that the new iMessaging that integrates with text messaging on iOS will put competitive pressure on them to do something similar with Android.
I will be first in line!
Psst... if anyone has found a way that I am unaware of despite constant searching in the past week, please advise us in this thread!
Google Voice Integration App?
I have not used this personally, and am in no way associated with the developer, but I found this app when searching for this exact functionality today. My Nexus S is currently integrated with GV on Sprint, so I have no way of actually testing whether this works or not, but if it does, its definitely worth $0.99!
I've been contemplating a switch to Verizon because of Sprint's slow network speeds, and would do so if I could have this functionality. If anyone has tried it, please provide feedback.

I just tried that app about 20 minutes ago. It shows promise. If you compose a message using the native SMS app it will send via Google Voice.
However, it doesn't integrate incoming messages. If you use GV's built in text forwarding, messages will come from your contact's alias (406, 973, etc) number. Also, you won't see messages you've sent using the Google Voice app or website in the native client.
I refunded it but I'll definitely buy again after improvements are made.
check out the google voice sms integration app on the market.
just search for mdrtools and u will find it.

[Q] Android user tied to GV

I use Google Voice exclusively because of savings on text messaging. Because of this, I need to have my phone dial out with my GV number as the outgoing number.
Android has seamless integration with GV (obviously because both are made by Google); iOS seems to have two system extensions that seamlessly integrate GV into its native dialer and messaging app.
From what I understand, WP7 doesn't have anything like this yet because there are OS limitations as to how tightly Google Voice could be integrated with the native dialer (though I don't mind if I could use a different text messaging app for my GV SMS). With the coming Apollo update and its promised Skype integration into the native dialer, do you think that Microsoft will open the APIs required to achieve a similar seamless integration of Google Voice like in iOS?
I use GoVoice app, which is an app (not integrated into the system), but it does the work. After going into the app, you can call or text someone without any hassle from your GV account.
Give it a try.
I've played around with the app in an AT&T store but obviously I can't get a proper experience unless I had a week or so with it.
I've heard some complaints are that the lack of integration is annoying, such that if you click a phone number that points to a text message, you will be sent to the default message app (which won't work if you rely exclusively on GV). Also, some people have said that it's not particularly consistent and is slow to turn on when you want to check an incoming message.
Do you use it exclusively as opposed to the native dialer?
i got rid of google voice, only because of the battery drain on android.
i just use google talk and beep.
google voice was easier though with my own number that could be texted like any other phone, but man it killed my battery.

[Q] Fully native google voice

I have been a google voice user since it was GrandCentral and an Android user since the Tmobile G1 (i even pre-ordered it). It's ridiculous that despite it being a google app/service there is no true full integration with android. it's great that there are apps that can integrate text messaging but they are all lacking. When setting up calls, Clicking "place all calls from google voice" in the google voice app get the job done but a banner comes across the screen that says using google voice and sometimes dialing from that times out (I think that's what is happening)and i have to use my phone's real number then. Is there any app or rom that has True google voice integration, when i say true i mean that if when i use my phone i cant tell that its using google voice (no banners, or special messages for calls) and texting from native text messaging apps in seamlessly connected to google voice? Somethign like having a setting where u just check use google voice number for all phone services. Does anyone have any solutions? I am all ears.

I agree with you. I am a heavy Voice user and would love to know more about how I can enhance my experience. I'm using a Galaxy Nexus, and even so, the Google Voice app is not as fluid as I expect it should be. Sometimes it's choppy.

audio voicemail

So...my old S2 had an app on it that would record missed calls to an audio file. There was a pro-version (sans ads) but the free version was adequate.
Now that I have an S5 and an S6, I don't see anything similar. Not among the default apps, not on Playstore. There is voice mail but you have to dial a separate number, listen to the voicemails and then decide to keep or delete.
The old S2 app stored the recording on the phone...or at least it was directly accessible from the phone.
When I search Google play, all I see are voice to text (visual voicemail) and voice recorders. I don't really see any that automatically redirect a missed call to a recording on the phone. And I'm not sure how faithful and precise voice to text is, esp. if the caller isn't very clear or is long-winded.
Any thoughts, suggestions or help? Plz.
I'm using YouMail, pretty nice app. Have you tried it yet?
Play Store: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.youmail.android.vvm&hl=en
apk: http://choilieng.com/apk-on-pc/com.youmail.android.vvm.apk
I installed this app on my Android phone and iphone.
Or, Google voice is another good choice but only available in US. Your data will be stored with Google account, this acts as you phone number.
Google Play: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.apps.googlevoice&hl=en
apk if you need: http://choilieng.com/apk-on-pc/com.google.android.apps.googlevoice.apk
hope it will help

Thank you for your reply.
I tried Google Voice. But after further research, I suspect I will never get what I am looking for despite apps being out there that might be able to do the job...if only I weren't on a third party carrier. I use TotalWireless and they use Verizon towers. But Verizon apps won't work on my phone.
Despite that, the voicemail I do have goes through Verizon and the procedures for activating it and accessing it are identical to the procedures used to activate and access voice mail directly through Verizon.
I got through the set up of Google Voice but when I went to get voicemail, I got a message that connection couldn't be established or something similar.
Called Verizon and TotalWireless--the upshot is that it won't work.
YouMail also states that it won't work with third party carriers.

Just got my OP7Pro after deciding to not get a Pixel4. I'm having some issues though.

Decided not to go the Nexus/Pixel route..... I'm quite frankly tired of the insane prices and terrible features on the Google Phones. I've heard good things about the OP7 so decided to take a gamble. So far, I'm loving it.
Just have a few minor issues that maybe someone here can figure out?
I used Google Voice + Hangouts for SMS and "Chat". For some reason Hangouts will crash when I start typing a SMS. I've already tried to clear storage, re-install the app, check the permissions... everything looks like it should. It won't close on a Hangouts chat, only an SMS chat from within hangouts.
Is there anyway to get my Google Voice number to show up in the outbound of the Google Messaging app? I changed the phone number in the google messaging app to my Google Voice number but my actual device Phone# shows up on the other end and not the GVoice #.

Try downloading carrier services in play store. You need that to use Google services on a carrier device. If you set up RCS, you'll forget all about hangout, everything's available within Google messages app including video chat.

Can I set my outbound phone number to my Google Voice number in the Google Messaging app? It shows my actual phone number for my device and no one I know, knows it. Heck, even I had to look up what my actual phone number is because I don't ever use it, I always use my Google Voice #

I used voice for 3 years, I don't know if you can still set up voice with your carrier number, but once you do, from what I remember you can set it up to ring your GV, when your number is called. I just checked, it's been a while since I've used GV, but they have updated the services. Find voice amoung the Google services, and you should be able to set it up.

You need to enable the Phone permission.

I think you've misunderstood. The new "Messages by Google app" that supports RCS..... it will only display my device actual phone number and NOT my Google Voice #. As I've been using GVoice since it's inception, no one (not even me) knows my actual Tmobile phone #... only my Google Voice #. I can't get the messages app to display / send / show my Google Voice # when I send an SMS through that app... it will display my device's phone #. I can't see of anyway to change it to "send from my Google Voice#" I've been searching the web and it seems like ALL GVoice users have the same issue and it is a persistent one. I guess until Google decides to allow it, there's no way I can use the Messages by Google app to send Texts, etc.

Thanks! That was it... there was a bunch of permissions NOT selected in Hangouts. Once I enabled them all, no more crashing. Thank you again.
