hello everybody,
we need to talk about restore of logins/accounts, does helium/titanium work?
do I have to choose full backup (apk & data) each time?
I'm asking because I was disappointed after I rooted my moto e phone and
I found out that all my apps were wiped out.
Then I though, nevermind, I've got Helium backup
(I had backed up only app data though, no apk included),
so, I downloaded my apps from playstore and opened helium and chose to restore them all,
however, many logins/accounts were missing!
I read such considerations in other forum(s) regarding both helium and titanium,
I used the latter to backup my apps, after the root,
I even restored a small app with a login and a password and it worked,
but, I'm a bit confused, should I be concerned?

I know when you root the N1 it wipes the phone. My question is can I use any of the various backup programs to back all my apps up and re-install when I root? If so, which is recommended?
My applications were partially restored after rooting. Not sure how, though.
Mybackup Pro will do what you ask.
Seems like it restores apps you install from the market.
Any app not installed from the market has too be be manually re-installed.

It appears, from what some others have suggested, that it reinstalls apps you have installed from the Market if you have Google backup your settings. And yes, MyBackup Pro is a nice app. A bit pricey but it's extremely useful, especially if you are always wiping (a 30 day free trial is available if you only need it once). My Backup for Root Users is free but it can be buggy at times and obviously cannot be used until after you've rooted.
has anyone noticed mybackup pro errors out on home screen backup?
no errors on mine.
its not an error that stands out...when i perform a backup i select bookmarks, sys settings, android home, and playlists. once the app is finished backup up the data i get the summary window which displays the following:
backup bookmarks successful
backup system settings successful
backup home shortcuts failed: null
backup music playlist successful
I have had no problems with My Backup Pro. I especially like the online backup just in case your SD card becomes corrupt and wipes everything.
Astro
Astro file manager has an application backup tool, and it will save the apps to the SD card.
Astro is a very cool file manager and completely free.
I've been using Mybackup Pro for a while now, as I am always swapping between phones, and wiping them etc. so I figured I would pay for the pro version.
If however it is just to wipe the phone once, I would recommend the trial version. It can be installed to back things up, then you can install it again after the wipe and restore everything to the way it was.

I haven't taken the plunge to Cyanogen's beta ROM yet. Is there a way to back up all of my phone's settings (notification settings, sounds selections, homescreen layouts) so that I can restore them afterwards without jacking things up?
I've used apps to back up my settings before, but am always scared to restore settings following a wipe when going from one kind of ROM to another, or (in this case) from stock to a custom ROM. Should I not be worried?
So my company is switching to google apps, and apparently google apps requires a factory reset in order to get up and running with my corporate e-mail.
I thought titanium backup would do the trick but I can't seem to find the right options for a full backup. I also looked into astro with around the same results.
I do have a Clockwork ROM backup but if i understand correctly that is A FULL backup, whereas I only need apps.
Ideas?

Although I am not expert and have not done it myself you could possibly just copy the app folder off your internal SD and then replace it. Your setting would still be gone though.
I would imagine that certain data is stored all over the place. I am going to just do an odin's 1 touch restore and redo all my stuff...
again... lol
My phone is about to be taken away (XPERIA X10) for a replacement in few days. I want to back up everything on it, not just the apps or settings. I want to back up the Android 2.2 which I have on it, all the apps in it with the settings.
I had 2.1, i have got everything ready, such xrecovery and etc.
Could you tell me a way I could also backup my root files (not the sd files).

Is your phone rooted? If so, you should use Titanium Backup. You have the ability to backup all your system files and data files. However, keep in mind that when you restore system files, they will need to be restored on the same version of Android that you had on your original phone. If not, you can have many conflicts on restore.
If your phone isn't rooted, there are several backup programs in the Android Market and Amazon's market that do backups.
Don't know if this will help, but if you could provide more information on your question, you will probably get more specific answers.

As long as it's a replacement of the exact same phone with the exact same OS, I'm pretty sure you could just use something like Titanium Backup to handle all this if your phone is rooted.
I do have my phone rooted, I want to backup everything, everything, so I can restore the phone as it was. Dont worry about the new phone, i can root and get android 2.2 on it.
As said, Titanium Backup is your best bet. If you're talking about something similar to a nandroid backup through your recovery, you cannot restore those across phones with causing major problems.
Backup your apps + data with TB, but I wouldn't restore any system data. Download the rom you're currently running & have your root method handy. Setting back up shouldn't take too long. I'd take screenshots as well to help when setting widgets back up because TB or any other app cannot restore those.
EDIT: Also backup your contacts/calendar through gmail. Go in to your Accounts & Sync settings and choose sync now. Don't restore anything backed up with Google through Titanium Backup, you might get duplicates.
I recently flashed a new rom (the last time I did this was almost 2 years ago so I forgot what to do). Titanium backup has been doing weekly updates for a long time. So when I started up the phone titanium backup is gone, I read that I must redownload from the play store, but when I run it, it says I failed to acquire root privileges. It tells me to get busy box, so I download that too, but that won't install properly.
What should I do now? Have I lost root? The bootloader is available...that means it's still rooted right? The internal sd card still shows my folder of titanium backup and all the other root folders I used to have on my phone, I just can't get titanium backup to run so i can't restore.

If you flash a new rom root is lost.
You have to root again.

A few of the JB ROMS were causing issues with root. The fix was to re-flash the SU (superuser) apk and that would fix things right up. You should be able to find it doing a search.

Lets start with a few basic questions... dont mean to offend you, just wanna make sure its not something you may have overlooked.
What rom did you flash?
What, if anything, did you wioe in recovery?
Did you get a superuser or supersu prompt when titanium started?

Not necessarily so. Most custom roms are pre-rooted by the dev. Ive flashed countless roms and until recently w/ jb not had any issues w/ root access.

just flash supeuser again and you will be fine...

it pretty much looks like this in TitBack, give or take a few letters: "[SMS/MMS/APN] Phone/Messaging...". when you tap on it, the pop-up recognizes it as "Phone/Messaging Storage". this is where your text messages are.
some 3rd-party MMS apps like GoSMS Pro can back up your messages too, and I believe there's also an app or two solely for backing up your messages to your sdcard/internal storage.
Titanium Batch restore fail
Hi all
Having a few problems, I'm new to flashing roms and the use of Titanium Backup and I've just flashed my second ROM. I've gone from CM9 to CM10. Before doing so I created a backup of apps + data.
I flashed the ROM fine, and ran the batch restore function in Titanium. I have all the icons on my homescreen from the previously installed apps but after clicking on them my phone tells me that app isn't installed. I then notice that my notification from Titanium's batch restore shows the apps I had downloaded from the play store failed to restore (the notification said that the elements failed after batch restore was complete).
I noticed that these apps have a line through them when the list of apps I want to restore appears.
Titanium then advised me that the apps did not restore as the Android ID had changed, So I then reverted to the previous android ID thinking this to be the solution. However, after running the restore function again, the same amount of elements failed to restore.
Due to my lack of knowledge in Titanium and my need for these apps, I turned to the play store and decided to manually redownload all the apps again. This does not work either! The error message I get is the apps cannot be downloaded due to an error (491). I guess this is to do with the android ID changing?
Please help, how can I get these apps to restore? and also how can I be able to download apps from the play store again? :crying:
EDIT: So I was able to reinstall the apps from the play store by wiping the dalvik + cache.
This still leaves me baffled as to why Titanium wasn't able to do this

I always use tb w/ the pro key to restore user apps + data, and have been getting the changed android id lately, but whether I keep the new id or revert to the old one, my restore works. Depending on what ROM I'm going to or from, sometimes I have to change my home screen shortcuts for system apps.

I didn't select restore system apps, instead I selected restore all apps with data, failing that I tried restore missing apps + all system data.
What option should I normally be selecting to do a straight restore after flashing a ROM? Does the fact that there is a line through the apps that I'm trying to restore mean anything?
I always select "restore missing apps + data" it's the 1st option under restore in the batch menu. The apps with a line through them are the ones that tb recognizes as being backed up but not installed.

Have been unable to get Titanium Backup to work to migrate apps from my old phone to a new pixel 3. From searching around it sounds other people have had issues, but I have been unable to get TB to work.
Phone is newly flashed with Android 10 and google's factory images, after installing Magisk Manager to manage root I've tried the following:
a) install TB through the app store, if I do this TB hangs on restore, but if I install the app through the marketplace and then restore data in TB, that seems to work is some (not many) cases
b) install an older version of TB from apkmirror which was suggested in some threads, TB just hangs if I try that.
This thread suggested disabling "Verify apps over USB" would solve the above issue, but I had no luck. https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-7-pro/help/issues-restoring-titanium-backup-t4011085 and in this thread had the same issue https://forum.xda-developers.com/pixel-3/help/pixel-3-setup-restoring-backups-fails-t3919228

I couldn't restore a lot of my ~300 user apps, e.g. Zoom, Youtube, Advanced Root Checker, GMail.
All these apps are restoring for ever (hanging while restoring).
A lot others worked without any problem.
The main solution was to disable "Verify over USB" in developer settings.
I restored most of my apps with Indirect method, but later used Direct method (and tried on some of the others), which didn't make a difference.
However the suggested "Disable Play Protect" (in play store) didn't make a difference for all of my apps.
Youtube and Android Auto were the only ones that still didn't restore (still hanging), even with both options disabled.
Even the interactive method didn't help here.
May be this also affects other Google Apps like GMail, but I installed those manually from Play Store and connected them to my account, so I don't know.
I then installed Youtube via the market link and restoring via "data only" worked fine.
When looking at an app backup by Total Commander (just for fun) or Xplore, I see that all these apps seem to have split apks, so I guess that's the real reason.
You just don't use titanium backup i use swift backup pro it does the same job for me
I was able to restore TB backups after a full factory image wipe and Magisk installation.
I had to disable both "Verify Over USB" and "Play Protect" from the Play Store to get it to work. Hope this helps.
