Hi, I'm hoping someone can help me. I just got a used s6 g920W8. I only had it for about 8 hours before I rooted it and I neglected to test phone call function before that. When I make or receive a call, neither party hears anything. It doesn't matter if I switch to speakerphone. Mute is not on, or hold.
The bottom speaker works fine on videos etc. Everything works fine except the phone audio. I don't know if it's hardware failure and the seller screwed me (the battery also seems like it's not so great) or the special kernel I installed through Odin for root messed something up. I'm not sure whether to finish installing twrp and another stock based rom and kernel and hope that fixes it, or try going back to stock and start fresh.
Thanks for any advice.
I just tried a factory reset and it still has no sound on a phone call. I don't know what I'm going to do. I have to assume if it was like this before I have to assume the seller is not going to give me my money back because she obviously knew it was like that. But I'm not going to try to return it when I don't know if the root method caused the problem.
Change ur kernel or if you have installed V4A, uninstall it, but I think it's a kernel problem.
Okay thanks I'll try to get twrp recovery installed tonight and flash a different kernel. Anything you recommend for a kernel? I'm new to this phone and haven't messed with a Samsung since the s3.
Thank you! I got twrp installed and flashed a custom rom which fixed my phone audio.

Dont know if this will help but this is a common problem with htc's. There are 2 pins in the usb port that get shorted out with gunk, rust, or whatever. I use a pick, some contact cleaner and some fine cloth to clean the pins. I also use compressed air to blow it out. This has happened to a ton of my friends evo's and both of my inspires. Its annoying as hell I know. Hope this helps, good luck

Thanks for the answer but unfortunately it doesn't fix the problem
I also have this same issue... Works fine no problems on stock unrooted. But once I root I get this same problem.. I have had this same issue in the past but never only on a rooted phone.. I have also been on a rooted ROM for a long time and this issue popped up last week.. Now I am stuck with stock until I can figure this out.

UPDATE: I have the stock ROM but rooted and it works well, however if i install another ROM the problem starts again, I install cyanogenmod and found out what is causing the problem, the car dock mode is automatically turning on, also the car dock apk from other ROMS are newer than the car dock apk from the stock ROM
I was able to disable Cardock in Virtuous Unity but still got the speaker phone issue... I guess HTC fixed this issue in the newest Inspire Rom because of all the phones returned because of it, but those fixes haven't been implemented in community roms.. That's the only explanation I can come up with.
UPDATE: I installed the stock ROM rooted and was working well, but when i changed the kernel the problem was back.

Glad you were able to find the issue. I would let the kernel Dev know about it.

Here is a kernel for CM7 removing dock accessory detection based on the latest CM7 kernel. If someone wants to build a version for Sense or based on another kernel, just unselect config_usb_accessory_detect and config_dock_accessory_detect support under USB Support > USB Gadget Support > Dock Accessory Detect in the kernel config before building.

Hi all,
So like most of you, I flashed to the newest version of CM (10.1.0.2). After doing that, my phone wouldn't read my sim card, so I tried the latest nightly released on 7/1/2013 and it worked! Only problem....my phone wouldn't make phone calls/texts/ I wasn't connected to the network.
So then I flashed to a stock rom via odin, did a factory reset, and upgraded to the latest OTA. Problem is, I have 4G, I can text, use data, etc. But my phone won't make phone calls. Every time I try, it says "dialing" and then the call ends.
Is anyone else experiencing this problem; does anyone have a solution? I could really use the help.
Thanks so much,
El dep.

I've been chatting with Verizon all morning to figure out how to fix it. I'm in the same boat as you.
Update Verizon is sending me a new phone, i've gone through all of their steps to find a fix, but we can't seem to find one. My phone is stuck in roaming, and we can't seem to get it. So they are sending me a new device. Hopefully you guys will have better luck. I will no longer be placing roms on my new device.

Haha this is just brilliant. I hope you come up w/ a solution. I'll let you know if anything works on my end. Fingers crossed!
Hi all,
I've just bought a new SII Skyrocket to replace my Motorola Bravo -- the bravo was terrible purchase and though the Skyrocket is a two year-old phone I consider this a big step up.
I bought the phone on eBay and it was advertised as new. It arrived in its original packaging with the security seal intact, so I have no reason to doubt this. The phone is running ICS (4.0.4 build IMM76D.UFCLF6).
The phone arrived yesterday and I really like it, but I've encountered a weird issue. If I reboot the phone then it is no longer able to make any sound. Any action that requires sound -- incoming calls, outgoing calls, choosing a ringtone, playing music, taking a picture -- causes the phone to freeze for a minute or more and then become very slow. Rebooting again makes no difference. The only solution I've found is to reboot into recovery and factory reset, though this may only work after several tries.
- Has anyone heard of this issue before?
- Is it likely to be fixed by upgrading to Jelly Bean (I'll install a custom ROM if I can be sure that the phone is working properly) or is this more likely a hardware issue?
Apologies if this question has been answered before. I've searched the forums here and elsewhere, but I haven't found any mentions of similar issues.
Thanks for your help!
Try flashing a stock UCMC1 ROM and doing a factory reset after your flash finished successfully and Odin rebooted your phone.
3 things you need:
1- skyrocket windows drivers from Samsung website
2-Odin
3-stock ucmc1 tar ball.

Good luck.

You don't need to install a custom rom. Try updating to official jellybean with kies, if that doesn't work then try C64's advice above with either UCMC1 or UXUMA7 (uxuma7 is less bloated).
The issue you're having is odd and I haven't encountered it before..

Thanks for the suggestions, C64 and lingowistico. Upgrading to JB was going to be my next move, but I wanted to know if anybody had seen this behavior first. I don't want to mess with the phone too much in case the seller will take it back (I may be on a loser there). I'll try the official upgrade and let you know.
Custom ROM not necessary -- true, but I've been running CM on my bravo for a couple of years and can't go back to a stock ROM. I'll try the de-bloated version of the official JB release, but I'd like something I can have more control over.
Cheers...

when phone is doing odd things the best way to ts is a complete wipe, formatting/removing sdcards then returning to stock w/odin, but you could try the debloated rom 1st just to test it out, if its resolved then its prob not hw related, just make a backup of ur current rom if planning on returning it but since you install an official stock it should also be returnable

Thanks Vincom. I don't have access to a Windows machine at the moment so haven't been able to try the upgrade.
One question -- how is it possible to make a backup of the current ROM without first rooting and installing a custom recovery? I suppose that I could install the custom ROM and create a nandroid backup. Then if I needed to restore I could restore the nandroid and reinstall the stock recovery. Is there an easier way?
Apologies, I just saw that you have information on reinstalling the stock recovery on your Newb Guide.
BTW, I want to say thanks for your work on the Newb Guide. One of the things that sold me on this phone was the support that it has here. Amazing to have all of the information on installing the custom recovery, rooting, etc. all in one place.

I believe I had this kinda issue once before, it was when I flashed CM10 or something. No incoming sound, sound did not work whatsoever, but installed a different kernel solved the issue, or flashing a new different rom.

UPDATE:
So, I managed to upgrade to the official JB 4.1.2 this evening. Had to do it twice.
First time the boot got stuck at the AT&T logo and PC wouldn't detect the device. I followed the directions in another post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=34682377&postcount=9 to repeat the upgrade and the same thing happened.
On a whim I decided to try rebooting a few times to see what would happen -- and it worked! Sort of...
I'm repeatedly rebooting the phone and sometimes it will start without problem. However, most of the time it gets stuck when the AT&T logo appears exactly where it should play the start up sound, except it freezes and the sound never plays.
I'm guessing that wiping the data before had nothing to do with fixing the problem and I was simply getting lucky on reboot.
I realize that this is a hard question without having the phone in hand -- but does this sound like a hardware issue?
Thanks again to everyone for their help.
Boot into recovery and factory reset from there. That should clear up the boot loop issue.

Just a quick note to let you know how this was resolved. I returned the phone to the seller who provided a full refund.

Hey there everyone.
I flashed skullface's CM, and one of the bugs is that the vibration isn't working, which I am fine with, but later when I returned to stock firmware, the vibration still isn't working! I tried installing stock 4.1.2 and then upgraded to 4.2.2, still vibration isn't working.
I am pretty sure that it isn't a hardware problem since I don't remember dropping it before the problem appeared, and I am sure I did the flashing steps right. Any help would be truly appreciated.
strange,i i did flash skullface's cm in the past, and my vibration still work afterwards.
try flash again and do a complete wipe, see if it got any change,if not,i think you have to send it to service center(make sure you reset the binary count first)
I tried reflashing the stock multiple times after making sure I wiped everything, I can't return it to the service centre cause I bought it from another country.
been running my vzw snapdragon s8+ rooted pretty much since root was an option, getting ready to hand it off now so I did a factory reset, flashed stock firmware, then updated to current
however when I was using it before I'd been experimenting with different modules like dolby atmos, volume booster, etc
somewhere along the line I wrecked the mic input so that the only time the mic worked for anything was on speakerphone, which was fine for me the last couple years
now though I'd like to hand off a fully working phone and can't figure out what I need to reset that part back to stock
any tip is appreciated
