[FIXED] Stock HTC one M8 won't boot shows a red triangle with exclamation point. - Verizon HTC One (M8)

So i have a STOCK HTC_M8Wl and a while back I tried to update it and this happened. The phone is no longer activated I've wiped data and cache from recovery mode I can also get into bootloader mode. When I attempt to power on the phone it shows the HTC boot screen for a min then turns off and back on to the same screen and after a minute or two it goes to a black screen then displays the phone with a red triangle and exclamation point in the middle then stays there.
I've looked all around the Internet and found this problem commonly with rooted devices but my problem is that mines is not rooted and is 100% stock. Is there a way to fix this problem from my position please let me know because I would love to make a thread on this problem because I only found one and they never explained how to fix it. (I belive it was the problem as mines) also I don't know much about HTC phones I have worked with rooting android before.
My solution:
Thanks to izzaeroth and the thread he provided me I was able to revive my phone. The ruu zip file kept failing saying signature verification failed do to large img file. So I decided to try the 6.0 ruu exe file instead. (My pc does have drivers to detect the phone while it's in fastboot mode) I launched the exe and it extracted the ruu I plug in my phone and started the process. It flashed all partitions it did take a while to load but after the update the phone booted it began to optimize 226 apps after that it booted and done it finally was fixed.

did u power it off while trying to update? you might be able to use one of dottats fuu/ruu files to try and bring it back to life

Yes I belive it did turn off while updating that's what I was told. But how do I fix it with the dottat file? I have OTA update files part 1 and part 2 but I always get the status 7 error.

you need to go here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2883845
you will need the marshmallow 6.0 file, you might have to use the zip version, option 2. read instructions carefully etc etc

I've downloaded the 6.0 zip file but when using method 2 it said the file was to big n I downloaded the file again to make sure the file downloaded correctly n then it was a signature or a verification issue flashing it via HTC fastboot didn't seem to work either, I can't currently do much do to no Internet connection. So I cant keep re-downloading files to check.

[Q] Nexus S 4G won't boot past Google Screen!!

I tried rooting my phone, but when I flashed CWM my Nexus S stopped booting... it freezes on the Google screen in the intro. I can boot into Fastboot, and cwm, but I cant connect the Internal memory to the computer without it booting like it is supposed to. Does anybody know of anything I can do to fix my phone and bring it back to stock??
There are guides for returning to stock stickied in the Nexus S 4G Android Development forum.
Before you do that though, try flashing a different recovery, like the one linked to here or here.
Btw, which guide did you use? You're not the first person to have this problem, and it's really bugging me (though probably not as much as it's bugging you :-o).
Maximilian Mary: I tried to post the link, but since I'm a new member I have to wait 8 posts before I can post a URL.... :/
I will try a different recovery, but how would I flash a rom if I can connect my phone via usb mount?

I'm a little out of my depth here, but I think it's
fastboot flash system system.img.
You don't need to put the rom image on the sdcard. Just put it in the same folder as fastboot.
It was titled "How to Root Nexus S!"
And I will try to flash recovery and try that rom command, thank you )

There's a button for that.
I got the link. Thanks. I looks like you flashed a boot image that is incompatible with your phone. That guide was for the T-Mobile Nexus S. (Why they're screwing with the boot.img to begin with, I really don't understand.)
Download the attached file, and unzip it to the same folder as fastboot. The md5 sum is d4a9508f9321eb25df3383f00f571e8b. Then
Code:
fastboot flash boot boot.img
You'll probably also want to use one of the recoveries listed above to
Code:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
, but leave system alone for now. Flash that only as a last resort.

OMG!! im having the same issue. could you please post the link for ODIN so i can return to stock and take it from there please? I rely on my phone so much and i need it asap thank you.
same problem with me.
but in my case, the phone not only freeze after the google logo before boot. I tried several times to pull the battery and start the phone again, it took several times until the phone can boot normally again.
After that, my nexus s can work as usual. but it only takes 3-4 hour until it freeze/hangs or reboot automatically and show image of green robot lay down with red alert triangle...
sometimes I noticed all application force closed like gmail, gtalk, etc. (its a basic apps instead of 3rd party app)
History :
- root GB 2.37 using superoneclick
- upgrade OTA to ICS 4.04
- problem happens
- root using guide : nexusshacks.com
- unroot using guide : nexusshacks.com
- back to factory setting on GB 2.34
- upgrade OTA to ICS 4.04
- Still got that problem.....
I'm using Nexus S 4G Sprint, pls help me guys...
nexus s won't boot
I had the same problem and read elsewhere that heating the phone with a hairdryer solves the problem.
I must say, indeed it did.
I removed the battery and the SIM card, then heated up the phone (so it really feels warm) put back the battery and sim and simsalebim the phone started again. and is still working since (now already a few day's)
It seems that a component in the phone is heat sensitive, the question in my mind is when will this show again and do I need to consider buying a new phone.
But sofar it works
PS I also tried hard reset factory reset the lot, but in the end only heating up helped.
Good luck, David
I fixed this problem! but I had to wipe all user data by rooting it using nexusrootICS. It finally boots up and the phone works now... that's all I need.

Trying to update Nexus 7 2013 from 4.3 to 4.4.2

I did not want to update my nexus 7 at the time I obtained it due to kitkat being new and not having a 1 click root. So I disabled the notifications. Recently I found a 1click app for kitkat and decided I would just restore to factory and then update. I was told to just clear google framework data but that did nothing and only restarted the download..... Problem is even after the restore I am getting verification errors via the manual update via system updates. I am currently sitting here with a full 25Xmb download of the update and am trying to in the nexus recovery mode to load the abt from sideload in cmd but at first i got error 7 and used winrar to repair the zip which got rid of the error 7
Now I am getting
failed to verify whole file signature
signature verification failue (which is what manual update would say when it finished downloading on the system updates screen)

i dont know what genius told you that clearing framework data would do what you want, but thats not even close to the right answer.
use this tool to installl the latest factory firmware.
also, this is a nexus device. you dont need to wait for one click root methods. after you unlock and put on a custom recovery, all you need to do is flash the su zip file and install a su managing app then you will be rooted on any version of firmware.
its been a while since i used that tool (i have a 2012 n7) but im thinking it will help you with the recovery and root too if you need it.
wug makes some good scripts.

Last time I used it there was no default file, you could choose whatever one you wanted, I'm assuming up to current unless he hasn't made those files available.
I don't know if you can insert your own file if he doesn't have it current.
I know it used to download the file you choose, so you may not be able to add alternatives.

so far i have
flashed stock and unrooted then unlocked 4.3. not sure where to go from there atm... keep getting that error.... Thanks again for the assistance
I also tried doing adb sideload via toolkit but the zip i have keeps giving error 7 verification failed/aborted when trying to update the os from jwr66n to JSS15R so i could manual update to 4.4.2
or even if i try skipping jss15r it will give whole file verification failed when just trying to go straight to 4.4.2

issue is now resolved.

Unable to load webpages after Sunshine (root, S-off)

I used Sunshine, got root and S-Off, flashed a wireless tether zip. Right after, 4G speeds plummeted and no websites would load. Saw the closest to going back was to RUU, couldn't get it to open the file (even in the SDK folder after I downloaded and installed all files). Finally flashed another ROM and wiped everything from my phone.
Still 99% of webpages won't load on 4G. If they do, it takes forever. Not sure if it's anything I did, but just wanted to ask before it turns out to be some huge coincidence with Verizon. Thanks for any help.

Flash CleanROM. It's just like stock only better: debloated and tweaked, tethering enabled and more...
Thanks for the reply.
The wireless tether zip I flashed was: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2708548
The ROM I'm currently on is: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2716306
- Nothing wrong with it, just don't like the stock look and loading webpages is still not working.
I have fastboot drivers and adb as well as the SDK toolbox on my PC. I've been able to do most things following guides and posts here, but I can't RUU. When I flashboot flash zip 0P6BIMG.zip it gives error: cannot open 0P6BIMG.zip. I guess I could buy an external SD card and reader, but was hoping to fix this tonight/tomorrow.
Trying to download CleanROM for the 5th time tonight. The download stops around 300-400MB and there's no other mirrors for it. Currently at 700MB, maybe this download will go through (on PC). I'm really just trying to fix my webpage issue and go back to stock (or CleanROM is fine if it's similar). I'm willing to even donate a little to someone.

Scott's site is not mobile friendly, but he just put up a DevHost mirror:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=55135177
The download actually finished, I even checked the MD5 of my download vs. on his site, matched. Wiped and flashed it, got dialer.apk stopped working, hit ok, popped up again, hit ok, phone bootlooped with 3 colored android lights on screen. Rebooted manually, same error, then something like phone.apk or android.google.something stopped working, hit ok, boot loop again. Pretty much have no clue at this point.

That sounds as if you dirty flashed CleanROM over the GPE.
Did you wipe cache, Dalvik and data before flashing CleanROM?
If not, do it and reflash the rom.
I may have messed it up, it was late last night. I have TWRP on it after following guides since I somehow lost the OS while trying to RUU different ways. Can anyone confirm everything I need to wipe so that I can flash CleanRom without wiping it from my internal storage? Don't have an external SD card and it won't sideload for some reason (I get error: cannot open romname.zip).
Edit: That worked. Except now it says CleanROM 1.3 in my settings lol and I swear I downloaded 1.4, since it was from the developer's site directly.
You do not need to flash a tether zip on that ROM or any other custom ROM
Sent from my HTC One VZW using Tapatalk 4
You're right. At the time I just wanted to add tethering and not change anything or flash any ROMs. Beyond that point now lol. CleanROM looks fine and is working well, it just says 1.3 in settings when I know I downloaded 1.4 from the OP's site last night.

How to re-root after OTA without a PC (s-off only)

I have seen this come up many times as a question.. Probably needed a post of it's own...
Download this and move it to your ext-sd card (not in any folder) using htc file manager. Rename it to 0P6BIMG.zip
- https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=95916177934537454
Then reboot to bootloader and allow it to flash. This will give you back the latest TWRP. Boot back up and delete that zip off your sd card. IF you don't delete or rename it you won't be able to get to recovery via bootloader (it will keep trying to load that zip).
Then download this (doesn't matter to where-just remember where).
http://download.chainfire.eu/696/Sup...erSU-v2.46.zip
Reboot to TWRP manually and flash it. Bam... done.....

If on lollipop your only option right now is to have someone with a Java card do it for you.
Thank you so much for posting this. I've been looking for it endlessly.
I'm not all that experienced with flashing and I think I made a mistake somewhere.
I downloaded the first file, renamed it as specified, and placed it on the highest level of my external SD card. I rebooted using power + vol down and let it do its thing with the vertical loading bar. I suppose that means it flashed the file.
Then I rebooted, deleted the first file, and put the second file on the highest level of the external SD card. I rebooted again, selected "recovery", and was taken to the stock recovery, not TWRP.
Disregard this I goofed.

You usually have to confirm flashing the zip. Can you verify it asks you to flash zip 1?
I'm not getting a confirmation message. Hmmm...
---------- Post added at 03:59 AM ---------- Previous post was at 03:12 AM ----------
When I reboot into the bootloader, I immediately get a message saying that it's loading 0P6BIMG.zip. There is a loading bar. Once the loading finishes, I get a message saying to press power to reboot, which I do. I plug my phone in and put the second file on the SD card. When I reboot into the bootloader, I select "Recovery" and it loads the stock recovery.

First of all, I wanted to thank you for your help with all of this. I really appreciate it.
I'm getting somewhere, but I'm not there yet. When I enter the 'fastboot flash zip nameofzip.zip' command, I get stuck at '<waiting for device>'. I've waited for over a half hour on a computer with a USB 3.0 port, and then the same on another computer with a 2.0 port. It's stuck there. I'm doing some research to see if I can find what is causing it to get stuck here.

I'm thinking you should do two things. First unplug and reply your usb cable while it's waiting. Secondly check device manager and make sure it shows the correct driver for your phone is installed when your phone is in ruu mode. Each mode loads its own driver instance.
I did some more work and ton more research and took another couple steps forward. I watched a video of some guy flashing an RUU and noticed the prompt asking him to confirm flashing the zip, which I'm not getting. The process should be simple.
Before I go any further, will this method work with a locked bootloader? I'm s-off, but have a locked bootloader. If it won't work with a locked bootloader, I'm out of luck since there's really no way of unlocking the bootloader on the Verizon m8, right?

If on lollipop your only option right now is to have someone with a Java card do it for you.

I had spoken to scotty1223 about me getting an M9 and having him do the Java card trick but it looks like I may only get the M8 now.... The same card and process works ?
scotty1223 and I live in the same town (I think) or very, very close.

Hi there, I'm stuck with the verizon htc one m8 on lollipop after taking the update without going s-off. Is there any way that someone can help me out with a Java card?
Thanks in advance!

Root and S-off Verizon M8 5.0.1
Hello everyone,
I am quite new to this and although this is all a bit overwhelming, I appreciate everything I'm learning. I'm trying to get my Verizon M8 to work on gsm so that I can use a metro pcs sim. I'm running 5.0.1 and can't seem to find a way to root my phone and get s-off to even begin the process. Any pointers?

ECHOE Rom conversion to S7active release

This is the Universal Echoe Rom originally made for the S7flat/S7edge source thread is here ...
https://forum.xda-developers.com/tmobile-s7-edge/development/echoe-rom-g935t-beta-t3440877
have converted it to work properly on our s7actives so all buttons WORK, no boot loops at start, and no need to get scary blue warning screens, or reflashing of boot.img's
but normal risks, so do the normal routine, backup, and start with a charged battery ...
### Downgrading
1. Using modified Odin by pricecomsy
2. power down phone, and get it into download mode (so with phone switch off, hold menu+volume down and power on, then when prompted volume up)
3. Unpack G891AUCS2API2_6.0_ALL.rar
4. Load all 4 of these unpacked files in their respective placements in Odin...
5. Flash ! once Finished, you in a Clean Marshmallow
### Install is from Marshmallow/Android 6
1. So downgraded from Nougat/v7, or start afresh with Odin (i tested with PL1)
2. flash G891A_6.0_Eng_boot in odin in AP placement
3. Then root by running root.bat from MM_SuperSU-v2.76-S7QC package (it installs flashfire too)
4. then open up flash fire and add converted ECHOE_G891x_Universal_AROMA_V1.2a as zip
5. and flash, follow the aroma installer
6. once it starts installing WILL take 10-15 minutes to load ..
7. then reroot like step 3.. (need to fix the embedded rooting system to suit our actives, like on my ufirm, if i get hassled, and people like this rom will spend some more time on it! )
i doubt this is very good on battery, does have some graphical errors, but they reported in the original thread on the s7flat/edge too
will take a while to configure to how you like it, but the NoNaMe/Echoe rom configurator is very good !
All thanks go activefan01, jrkruse, and all of the echoe, and NoNaMe teams .. all i did was small conversion work, and repackage it ..
just in case i need it ....

Download G891AUCS2API2_6.0_ALL.rar
unpack, and flash all 4 of these files in their respective placements...
it says i need to request permission then i get an email saying delivery failed... what should i do?
Use this link
https://cloud.mail.ru/public/BGy7/gKs4xzhRE/
and find G891AUCS2API2_CL8737252_QB10881022_REV02_user_low_ship_MULTI_CERT.rar
there.....
i will eventually update the OP with my links, but run outa time/space, but thought i would get it out there, as these files been out for ages and should be easy to find!!!...

No, we dont have the normal TWRP etc recovery avaliable for teh S7active/G891a as the bootloader is locked ..
so we have to use flashfire instead

Yeah as its based on marshmallow, and its very busy ROM....
There is a v1.5 aviable to convert over, but I doubt that will make any significant difference ..
Done it more of Proof of concept that s7 Roms can be ported to the active
If there is a decent nougat s7 Rom, i could try porting that ... is stang? a good one ?
Im prolly gunna sound retarted asking this. But I just rooted and am running your ufirm_hybrid. What's the difference in this one. Can I start this threat from where im at rit now and try it or is this something totally different. Again sorry, still new just trying stuff out
Sent from my Samsung SAMSUNG-SM-G891A using XDA Labs
This is something different. It is a port of Echo rom for the S7 Active.
Great bit of work but 6.0 is too old now.
