How accurate are benchmarks numbers in indicating actual performance? - General Questions and Answers

Dear XDA,
So in lew of a new phone, I have been checking out store retail models and running benchmarks to make my buying decision better. I ran Antutu on Pixel XL and it got 139000+ and I was amazed (my note only did 138000 before thermal throttling).
So how indicative are these benchmarks to real world scenarios? Like for PC, they are useful for gauging pure compute power and have some accuracy to real world case. So for android, how do benchmarks such as Antutu, geekbench, 3dmark, etc. translate to performance for my use case's:
-Used the phone for calling, texting, social media, etc.
-Media consumption using a 1440p screen for youtube, netflix, and some native HDR contant, music using lossless files with poweramp and music streaming with spotify
-Heavy 3D games, emulators, and pokemon Go, etc.
-Using hpc applications, loading compute payloads using otg, gnuroot to run workstation applications (programming, scripts, sensor data, machine vision, etc.); Use for on the go work but mostly a side/independant work
-Using drafting application on native andriod and linux (part of the previous point)
-Used fingerprint and iris scanner, SD card encryption, phone encryption during start up, secure folder, etc.
-Listen to music using a 3.5mm jack at home and bt headphones on the go/gym
-Taking pictures, videos, using slow mo and video/picture editing
-etc.

Dream Phone Literally " Wishlist "

I was wondering what would be a DREAM Phone could be like which can be reality with todays tech or 2 yrs from now.
Keeping HTC HD2 Specs as standard, what the other features you would like to see in future Phone of HTC's.
To keep it easy i have some ideas (may be stolen )
Suggest yours (Be realistic - dont suggest a 10X optical zoom cam or a mini drilling machine.)
Video Out analog + digital
USB Host
FM Transmitter
Thermometer + Humudity ctrl would be a plus
Dual Sim in world phone mode
Battery larger than 1500 Mhz
Solar Charger
HD Videos Player
3D Graphics Engine with HW acceleration
Four Hardware buttons near edges for Playing Games
I don't mean to be rude, but your list doesn't get close to the sort of things that I would like to see in ideal a device. In no particular order:
Picture Camera; 3-5mp No more than 5 as too many pixels for a small sensor would render the pictures too noisy. Decent optics and a proper flash (not LED) with manual as well as auto. Digital only zoom would be fine, with the option to specify size/resolution. Able to record HD video with zoom (without assisted lighting).
Front Camera; for voice calls, but more importantly available as a webcam for voip and messaging applications. 640x480 and capable of 25fps. Able to record.
GPS; assisted GPS with voice turn by turn navigation software, downloadable maps of all available territories, capable of walking and cycling modes as well as driving.
Compass; to assist the above standalone as a walking tool and also integrated with the GPS for streetview.
FM radio; not requiring headset as aerial so it can be played through the device speaker(s) or a bluetooth headset. FM transmitter.
Video; able to play HD video and support for accelerated flash videos.
Connectors; HD Video out, stereo out via standard 3.5" jack. USB connector for charging and supporting USB host.
IR; transmitter receiver with programmable (both the IR codes and the button appearance and grouping) multi-device remote control application. Good range transmitter.
Screen; Large resolution (capable of widescreen HD) AMOLED capacitive touch screen with a small capacitive compatible stylus built in to the phone.
Phone; Voice and video phone with integrated Voip. Dual Sim where both can be active (with separate controls for ring, vibrate, and silent) or individually disabled and password protected.
Sound; stereo with decent bass and volume. Full media player including video, audio, and lossless formats.
Networking; GSM and 3G with top current specs and multi-band (ideally able to support voice and data in Europe, Japan, and the USA - although this is a point that can be compromised on given its impracticality). Wireless-n compatible wifi. Tethering (and ethernet) via bluetooth and USB port.
Memory; large program memory (1GB?), large ROM for OS and built-in apps, large storage (16Gb) microSD slot (HCSD high speed).
Processor; 1.5Gb Snapdragon.
Barrery; large capacity >12hrs talk time >240hrs standby >6hrs video playback
OS: Linux kernel with root access android.
Form factor; Like the Touch HD.
Now although close, this is unachievable at present (combining form factor and battery life for example). I strongly doubt anything like it will exist any time soon (despite the wishlist not being that outrageous on an individual item by item basis). It would be ideal, though.
My old SPV e100 had a thermometer!
Id like TV out. I plug the laptop into the tv, but then I cant browse the net! Nightmare!

No Problem Mate : Even i was thinking the same after posting.
However i agree with your ideal device exept i just want it to be running Win Os as i use a pc a lot so hacking / modifing is lot easier.
now coming to the post...
USB host with video out (digital) can completely elminate netbook / notebooks as we can connect a full desktop keybaord adn monitor ...few ppl at my work place hav asked for such technology...
My wishlist for a dream device
2Ghz processor
1Gb RAM
HTC Universal unbeatable form factor
4" VGA pivoting screen
Slim and nice design
A hardware keyboard
5Mpx camera
Front VGA camera
quadband
3G capable in México
Included all the great business features in Rhodium, like conference call
Maybe 2012.........
I want a usb port so i can plug in flash drives and extra hard ware. i also want at least dual micro sd card slots.
and i want it to look similar to the universal but with a screen that nearly takes up the whole lid plus more hard ware buttons.
Based on nexus one hardware (OLED 480*800, good memory, processor), i.e. best features of HD2 and Omnia 2
More hardware buttons (possibly detachable)
3.5mm audio line-in
Compass (good idea trendend)
Dual microsd slots (giving 2*32Gb storage)
USB host (unlikely!)
Software:
Nice new Windows Mobile without the niggles
An audio application 1/10 as good as rockbox
A working version of skype
A proper Onenote mobile, syncing to the cloud
Gaming platform (not that I'd use it, but it would help WM to progress)
Some things I don't see the need for:
FM radio: obsolete with internet?
Video out: I guess this is for showing off to friends, but are you likely to have the right cable to hand?
Thermometer/humidity: does this integrate with anything else the phone does? Otherwise just get an analog one and glue it to your phone!

FM Radio is ubiquitous and of high quality. Still the best option for local news and sport as well as traffic reports. I like FM radio and don't want to carry a separate device. Video out becomes more useful when the device can record video. Shoot video, edit it, show it on a big screen. I'd rather carry a cable than another dedicated device and a cable.
As for temperature/humidity. I'm not particularly interested in it built into the device, because calibration could be a nightmare (given the device itself generates heat). I could be interested in remote devices (that connect via the USB host, perhaps?) with the likes of themocouples, pressure sensors, heart rate monitors, pulse oximeters. That could be useful with the right software....
I'm talking about my dream device. I do not require you to subscribe to my dreams. In return I'll stay out of yours.
Not perfect, but I'd probably settle for Something like this. Except with android.

Some Basic Answers

1. MKV - no support in native player
2. 720p mp4 high profile with AAC audio - excellent playback
3. XVID avi - excellent playback
4. Bluetooth audio - no lag!! very good sound quality (tested with jaybird freedom)
5. PDF files - large graphic intensive textbooks - load fast and scroll smoothly (using native Reader app)
6. Flash support in browser - not good - spotty at best - suspect rumor about flash only on approved "whitelisted" sites may be true - need to test more
Just getting started first hour only with this thing - so far first impression:
Not intuitive at all, high learning curve, but suspect that once familar, will be more capable than comparable Android tablet. Not sure this will sell because I think it will appeal to the more tech savy and confuse less tech capable individuals. So far - I like it.
Where does it seem to fall in the spectrum:
Apple philosophy - walled garden - no freedom - but simple
Microsoft philosophy - too much freedom - confusing to the unfamilar
Android seems to fall somewhere in the middle.
Yeah the lack of MKV is rough. I am hoping somone comes out with a solution soon to take care of that little problem. So far I kind of like mine. A little heavier than I like in a tablet and Win8 is... weird. But still kind of like it.

Little tip - you can convert MKV to MP4 using the free software avidemux in about 2 minutes - then it will play fine on the surface.
No re-encoding of video required - just re-muxes in a new container - same video - re-encode audio to AAC so tegra 3 can handle it with hardware.
In Avidemux:
Open file - may take a minute to load
Video Output field: Chose COPY
Audio Output field: Chose AAC (can also select filter to re-mix to stereo - I usually do that as well)
AVI Muxer field : chose MP4
Thats it
Go to Save and save it with a name of your choice and it will automatically re-mux to MP4 which will play on Surface just fine.
Why is this useful? Handbrake and core i7 - re-encode a two hour movie in 30 to 45 minutes
But if you use Avidemuxer your done in 2 to 5 minutes depending on file size.
Use Avidemux 2.6 or later - its the easiest version
Good tip!
Given that Surface already has hardware support for the codec, writing an app that groks MKV and can pull the video stream out of it to play throughthe native decoder shouldn't be a problem.

Intex cloud swift 4g

INTEX CLOUD SWIFT
A device having power of 4g, USB OTG support, Hd display etc in a very affordabl price of 8000rs.
After a month of use, i found that device is packed with performence of sony xperia and beauty of android material themes lollipop 5.1
Didnt found much flows in hardware or software. But a thing to mention is that the 2500 mAh battery runs 8 hours on 3g downloading.
Now starting the specifications.
1--> DISPLAY
A 720*1280 resolution display with soft navigation buttons inside scren display, leaving only 720*1182 resolution as maine diaplay.
Hd resolution with 320dpi ands the device in the range of medium pixel density devices.
LCD panels display with MIRA VISION software where you can control pre definednset of assets ofndisplay like brightness, contrast, sharpness, color temperature, color quantity, and dynamic contrast.
Touchpanel is multitouch supported upto 5 fingures.
****the device minimum brightness is a little too high for night use. I recommend using an app named "Dimley".
2--> BACK CAMERA
8MP camera with resolution of 3840*2160 (16:9 ratio) and 3264*2448 (4:3 ratio) and 2160:2160 (1:1 ratio)
Camcoder having 1920*1080 as 1080p
Single Led flashlight and auto focus. zero shutter lag click option is awsome
3--> FRONT CAMERA
5MP camer with resolution of 3072*1728 (16:9 ratio) and 2560*1920 (4:3 ratio) and 1728*1728 (1:1 ratio)
Camcoder having 720*480 as 480p
No flashlight in front but zero lag shutter click option avilable
####The camera app is having good options to control the jpeg quality like sharpness, contrast, brightness, hue etc.
****i recommend using camera mx app
4--> CONNECTIVITY
Having dual sim comfort made more comfortable with 4g emabled on both sim.
Both sim can run on 2g/3g/4g.
Micro sim slots.
Wifi/hotspot/wifi direct features avilable. HotKnow is a good frature for connecting teo intex cloud swift devices together.
GPS for navigtion. Useful on offline maps for navigtion between places.
USB OTG supported. Run harddisk, flash drives, usb periferals, gamepads etc qith the devices.
Bluetooth having internet sharing option is good.
5--> BATTERY
2500 mAh 3.7V removable battery is just barable with this device. The battery is not made to last a day, but can go at 6-8 hours for gamers and 20-25 hours on 2g moderate use amd 40-48 hours of no internet and moderate use with less screen wakeups.
Battery drains from 100% to 88% in 1:55 hours of playing Hd movie at full volume and lowest brightness.
Brothers in arms 3 drain approx 3-5% battery in one stage. While caatle defence drain 3-5% battery in 4-5 stages.
Music playback is good eminem 17 song album drin 8% battery.
****i do not recommend downloading any dattery defender or app like that. They simply run background and consumes.more battery.
6--> PERFORMENCE AND STORAGE
3gb RAM (2.8gb usable) is very fast. I never got a hang in my 2 and a half month use of the device havng more than 30 apps installed and 6 big games like gangster vagus and brother in arms 3 and mortal kombat x.
Quad core 1.3ghz cortex a53 processor gave the device wings and withbtht power you can play two games one at foreground while other at background.
MALI T720 gpu giving device graphics a peak performence and quality ballance. Thia gpu can take heavy loads of graphics without lags. I playes brother in arms 3 and gangster vagus and mortal kombat x at highest graphics without lag.
internal 16gb (11.5gb to 11.2gb usable) and an external support of 128gb. Have a single sd card slot.
Basically while on 3g use and all apps updating like whatsapp, facebook all gapps, twitter, 1.3 gb is free RAM sonyounjever face a hang problem.
****do not install any RAM booster they drain battery and kills system.apps sometimes creating trouble.in longrun.
7--> SENSORS
ACCELOMETER
PROXMITY SENSOR
LIGHT SENSOR
THERMAL SENSOR (for battery and other motherboard related hardwares)
8--> SPECIALS
Device is packed with amazing features like Smart Wake feature and gesture control boosting devuce user interface to extremes level. MIRA VISION is a mind blowing feature to use.HotKnot is a feature like sony's NFC.
Lollipop 5.1 version used in this device allows uaer to move apps and huge game data to external sd card and save internal space WITHOUT ROITING.
After using device inthink intex will release a marshmellow update. But i dont know when.
Device have its oum sound enhansments for speaker, head phones and bluetooth.
These are the features packed in a very affordable android device. Now time to look at bugs and loops in devices.
1--> to download big apps from play store. You have to unmount your sd card first then download big apps from play store.after doing that mount your sd card and move app to sd card. Then after moving app , manually move data of that app to sd card.
2--> have many pre installed bloatwares. They cant be stotally removed.
3--> a low power battery for heavy users.
4--> camera have no special sensor like BSI, XMOR etc
5-->default gallery app is robust and did not refines images on zooming.
****i recommend using gingerbread gallery app from play store.
This is a complete review of intex cloud swift 4g. If i didnt mention anything special of you have any questions. Just reply the post or message me
If this helped please hit thanks.

Why Nokia 808 is still solidly relevant in 2019?

1. Best camera resolution ever [Huawei P30 Pro ~8% worse], moreover: giant sensor 1/1.2”, nd filter, xenon flash, ability to take pictures at 41.5 Mpix and 40meg file size [with Osenok mod]

Hi there! Well, actually it has more things than many modern phones don't have
Xenon flash, 2nd largest sensor (just behind the Panasonic LUMIX DMC-CM1 that has 1-inch sensor), HDMI port, 3.5 audio jack, TV-out, FM transmitter, NFC, removable battery, camera button, high-quality stereo microphones (maybe still the king in recording quality?) etc
I haven't found any Symbian category in XDA, but I would like to see one. I have plenty more apps to recommend (and hundreds installed in my 808), but I am also trying to revive some old internet-related apps to restore as much functionality as possible. You have the SIStore installed, so you can check the first app that I revived by changing it completely to the ESPN FC Web (for the soccer fans). I will keep up with the efforts, but since I am not a developer, I would appreciate any assistance from any developer. I am sharing the result for free of course.
I want to restore Clouds, News apps, New Movies/trailers, facebook chat/messenger through new API, weather apps, etc
Any assistance/advice is welcome!
And yes, 808 is still the king!
Great to hear that someone value this great device.
Ah CM1, yeah. It can be better, but not in all scenarios.
And remeber that n808 is more compact, CM1 is quite bulky.
Here is some full-sized examples of n808 mightiness (see attached zip)

Amazing photos!
In many aspects, I love the 808! It is very easy to grip and use it with one hand for sure! CM1 is not that far though. It is quite narrow, and only slightly bigger than the 808, it can also be used with one hand, and although not as easy as with the 808, sure way easier than all flagships since then (even 5.5-inch screen is considered as small nowadays!)
Nokia 808 has a better camera then some of these 100 megapixel, overrated 7 lenses in one smartphone camera type of phones lol.
