MMS Over WIFI Messaging - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S 4 Themes and Apps

This is a modified version of the CM13 Messaging app that allows MMS over WIFI for Sprint or any other carrier that has the same problem (I think T-Mobile does the same thing?). It will use your WIFI if connected, otherwise it will try to use your mobile data like normal.
Place the messaging.apk in
Code:
/system/app/messaging/
I recommend renaming the current one to messaging.apk.bak so you can revert to the old version if the app gives you any trouble.
This app will only function correctly on android 5+, though I haven't tried it on anything other than Marshmallow yet so let me know if it works correctly on Lollipop.
Android 5.0 implemented a standard MMS API that allows MMS over WIFI. Unfortunately Sprint doesn't follow standards, so that doesn't work on their network. I created this out of frustration after jumping between all the major messaging apps and not being fully satisfied. You can view the changes I made here on github.

Install your favorite Sense based rom (I still haven't gotten MMS working in AOSP despite all my attempts) on your EVO flashed for Cricket
Use the dialer to edit EPST settings and configure the MMS server information:
mmsc: http://mmsmycricket.com/servlets/mms
mms proxy: wap.mycricket.com
Remember to set your MMS size limit in the msging app to 500k (higher settings don't seem to go through)
Enjoy.

****THIS ROM IS NOW OBSOLETE*****
I proudly present Jiminy, it is an EVO rom meant for Cricket subscribers. I now consider it a 100% working solution for Cricket subscribers that have MMS issues with Sprint based roms. This is targeted more towards people with the $55 Android plan that has the Android data features activated on it. If you are on the $45 or less plan you likely need to use token419's solution (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=730289) in addition to this rom to route data traffic through the cricket wap proxy.
The HTC MMS app is fully functional and already set to the 500k send size to work with Cricket. It can view all conversations properly. There is no need for a 3rd party MMS client.
Flashing this rom does NOT program your phone for Cricket, it is simply a rom optimized for full functionality on Cricket with none of the sprint crap you won't use. Your phone still must be reprogrammed either by a Cricket store with the Houdini software or by yourself (or someone who knows how) via QPST and CDMA workshop to have all the proper settings for putting the phone on the Cricket network. If your phone has not been reprogrammed for Cricket yet I would suggest using these instructions: http://www.howardforums.com/showthr...o-Flash-to-Cricket-with-Talk-Text-Wap-and-MMS
It might be a good idea to use a newer PRL than the one suggested in that guide (since it's old). I am attaching the most recent PRL I have to this post.
Rom is:
rooted
deodexed
busybox installed
data/app enabled
No Sprint bloatware
***************************************
Flash rom to device (a wipe is suggested) and then restore/import a working APN for Cricket (or maybe even MetroPCS).
Here are the contents of an APN.xml file that is known to work. Remember you MUST edit it with you own phone number, don't simply copy and paste it....
<?xml version='1.0' encoding='UTF-8' standalone='yes' ?>

Jiminy v1 - like v2 but with too many bugs lol -no longer hosted
Jiminy v2 - deodexed OTA 3.28.651.1 rom for EVO and the 3.21.651.1 OTA for the Incredible. g3a8614e kernel. Removed all market available apps (facebook, google maps, etc) so that they can be installed from market and updated in the future.
http://www.massmirror.com/2b70dfedce096c317481f922e8fa350b.html
Jiminy v3 - I never distributed it but ran it for almost 2 months (3.29 base with 3.21 Inc bits) with the kingxklick BFS #9 kernel - had a grand ol' time.
Jiminy IV - 100% 3.30.651.3 EVO base. No more hybrid with Incredible. MMS.apk is modified to work properly now. Everything works 100%. HDMI and 4G control are full restored. All stock apps restored minus Sprint bloatware. Hopefully this does not cause a problem with voicemail notifications now? I use Google Voice for mine so it won't matter, but if you use the Cricket voicemail then you might want to keep an eye on this lol. But more importantly, why aren't you using google voice for your voicemail anyway? It's free and infinitely awesome.

Jiminy V - 100% 3.70.651.1 Evo based off of aamikam's reengineered stock rom that has all the apks rebuilt to be smaller and faster. I think I forgot to add the multitouch keyboard back in, but go snag yourself a Gingerbread one instead anyway (and of course the oem supplied Swype is in there as well). As always it is de-Sprinted as well.
If some apps stop working over 3g (youtube and pandora) then your proxy settings might have been returned to Sprint. Follow these instructions to set them back to working settings for Cricket:
Dial ##3282#
edit mode
enter 000000 ok
goto advanced
scroll to RTSP proxy address and HTTP PD proxy address and change them to 0.0.0.0
hit back twice and now try youtube it should work!

well i was gonna wait for you to grab post #2 before i posted but anyways no big deal. im gonna go and try this out right now
also wanna give us the run down as to what exactly was done with this rom?

Internet and GPS simply work, no settings
MMS is set by importing an APN xml file as I already stated. Use APN Backup and Restore from the market to do this.
This rom assumes you have the Android cricket plan. If you are on the $45 plan you probably still need to use Token419's cricket flash for that u2nl tunneling through the wap stuff.

Surprisingly little.
It turns out MMS.apk has a couple buddy apks in the /system/app folder. I haven't pinpointed exactly which ones are required and aren't. However, using pretty much the entire /system/app folder from the right Incredible rom in the right EVO rom seems to work pretty well.
Another key component to pulling it all together was to start the combination process using deodexed roms for the EVO and the Incredible as the source material. I tried with some odexed roms with no success. Deodexing removes some sort of device/framework related dependencies from what I understand.
It really wasn't too hard in the end, I can recreate the rom in just a few moments and will probably be able to do future ports in little time, but it took a LOT of trial and error to get to this point.
is it normal for it to kick back to 1x and auto make a slideshow?
ok was able to send myself a mms, but sent one to my girl and she hasnt gotten it yet. and ive been on 1x now for a few mins

Slideshow is what you get for now, lol. When I send the "slideshow" to my other phone (iphone) it just shows up as 1 picture. So unless it bothers you to see "slideshows" on your end I really don't see what the issue is. A very minor quirk and may just be how the Incredible mms app works.
No idea about the 1x stuff. Doesn't happen to me. Have you updated your phone to the latest radios?
Also, make sure anyone you send to does not have a 1 in front of their 10 digit number. It (or Cricket) doesn't appear to like that.

Nice. I'll pop this on my wife's EVO and post results. I spent a good half day till I got the MMS working properly on it, with the handcent/chompsms assist of course. I grabbed a Droid Incredible MMS.apk that's floating around somewhere here in the forums.
deathsled this rom rocks. I flashed it this morning here in Phoenix and it works great on Cricket. I can even get voice mail notifications without having to install voice mail notifier. I'm getting awesome 3g service, calls come through great and so far, no issues. Please get yourself setup for donations.
*** Update: found that Google Maps and Superuser won't update. Uninstalled both and re-installed with newer versions.

I noticed a couple things weren't updating on my phone as well.
It's not a huge deal, but I'd like to sort that out, so I'll hammer out this updating issue and pop out a V2 before long lol

i think its just because where they are getting installed to. other roms ive seen have had same issues
**ok it wasn't Apps2SD***
Ok so it looks like any preinstalld apps don't like to update. I'll make another revision with a couple more tweaks but also strip out any apps available in the market. That way they can all be installed manually and should be able to update properly in the future.
In the mean time if you just pull the stuff off the device manually that won't update and then reinstall from the market I think you're good to go.
updated original post with new v2 information and links
also, I no longer consider the no MMS while wifi is on the last 1% I'm missing. It turns out that Android disables the mobile data connection when wifi is turned on (at least for CDMA devices). This can obviously be defeated as seen by the wifi tethering apps, but basically would require some recoding of the MMS app. I'm sure future updates to Android will probably iron this little annoyance out.
good job man
i have been working on this myself but you beat me to it i am working on a port myself for cricket that will have the proxy settings built into it for the peeps that don't want the android plan. but congrats and appreciate the hard work
Thank You So Very Much
Thank you very much for all of your hard work!
I appreciate the Cricket love for the Evo.
Thanks to your ROM (which works FLAWLESSLY and FAST AS ALL GET OUT) I'm able to enjoy my EVO 1000x's more than I have before.
I see a PayPal donation coming your way in the near future..... ;-)
Whoa, you know it's legit kudos when you're getting it from these two. ^
add the fact that you can add the kingklick #9 kernel to this and unlock FPS AND overclock and this rom is great. again thanks for your contribution.
I wouldn't run King's BFS #9 kernel. I experience 100% CPU usage lag that was associated with that kernel. I'd stick with #8.

Google Hangouts 2.0.012 KITKAT version with SMS working on Gingerbread 2.3.3

Hi Folks
Feeling too happy to report that even GB users can get a glimpse of what Hangout 2.0 performs on android 4.4 KITKAT!!
First of all let me announce the device I've tested it on. Mine is a Dell Streak running GB 2.3.3 Traveller's DSC ROM.
How I did it:
1. I have my phone rooted
2. Renamed existing hangout apk so that if in case i need a backup. Mine was in /data/app folder
3. Moved and renamed attached hangouts 2 apk as "com.google.android.talk-2.apk" (without quotes) - don't know if this a useless step?
4. changed permission of the renamed apk to rw-r--r--
5. Cleared dalvik cache
6. Opened the app and enabled SMS on the prompt and allowed it to collect all existing SMS messages
7. Voila! everythings works so far.
Features:
1. SMS integration
2. More fluid (in my opinion)
3. Online/offline notifier
4. Still exploring the differences
5. Will check if this can be integrated into the ROM itself or not by getting rid of MMS.apk
Need your feedbacks and press thanks if it works for you too. :victory:
Link: here u go! My dropbox shared URL
Came to know that video chat in hangout wasn't working with only the steps above. to fix
1. Download the libvideochat_jni.so
2. Move to system/lib
3. Change permission to rw-r--r--
4. Try video calling. Should work now!
5. Let me know
*NEW ADDITION*
HOLO themed black version (via- makers of Ultima ROM) of the same 2.0.012 version here
IMP: Please do NOT update hangout or else you will lose SMS functionality.
Successful, tha nks
This worked just fine on my Samsung Proclaim with 2.3.4. I had just been trying to sideload the new 2.0 yesterday, and it wouldn't work and I was afraid I might be getting screwed here in the near future. I use google voice extensively, and with the recent announcement that google would be dropping xmpp support for voice, I can tell that it a sign of much greater hangouts/talk integration and I'm a little concerned that my numerous pieces of older hardware are going to be left out in the dust. So, I had tried to sideload the new one yesterday, and it wouldn't work, but following your prescribed steps, it's working just fine now.

This step shouldn't be necessary if embedding it in /system. Hangouts.apk works just as well. Like I mentioned in my ROM thread, I'll have to try this out. If I like the change, then I'll update Traveller DSC.
Have you attempted this with any of the other KitKat apps?
Works for me by just installing it and not pushing it as a system app. Android 2.3.7

If you don't have to add that file, you might want to check to see if your ROM already includes it.
On a side note, the KitKat version of Hangouts is apparently available on the Play Store, but only for ICS and up.

The newest one released yesterday will install on Gingerbread phones. However, SMS has been removed for folks below 4.0. The previous version pulled from the Nexus 5 did put Hangouts SMS on Gingerbread.
One thing the portal article doesn't mention is that Google does version checking on its files. If the API version isn't sufficient what is downloaded is an older version that would work at the given API version. Case in point is Gmail. The current version is 4.6, as my ICS tablet will attest. However on a Gingerbread device, a freshly delivered version from the Play Store will be version 2.3.6.
In the case of Hangouts, the version being downloaded to Gingerbread devices is version 1.1 build 12 or something similar. Only ICS and up will get Hangouts 2.0. So to summarize, it's not that certain features are being disabled (as this thread can attest to) it's that Google is sending an older version of the app to the device.

It's kind of silly really, since the 2.0 version works fine on my Gingerbread ROM. Sending texts, receiving texts, pictures, video etc. Even the holo style settings menus work. Nothing appears badly broken, but from time to time it might force close.
The API support is within the APK, because otherwise it wouldn't allow you to install it. So if google strip that away then they're doing it simply to get people to update to a newer version of Android.
The file here is 2.0.012 (884159-30). The version Play Store will install is 1.2.018 (849105-30).
In one respect it isn't all that silly. Gingerbread is a few years old now and Google wants to focus on Android 4.x. I actually can understand that. What I would like to see, but never will, is Dell going back and making a KitKat ROM for the Streak, especially knowing KitKat will work on the Streak.
I can understand that they'd like people to upgrade, but blocking a feature for no good reason is silly. The 2.0 version clearly works. Yes theres the force close that happens 2% of the time, but that's going to be a bug in the code and not an API issue, because if it were API related it wouldn't even run or it'd force close every single time.
Of course I'm due for an upgrade anyway, and I probably will soon, but it still would of been nice to see google officially support the 2.0 version on Gingerbread.
Hey it works bt always show the number.... I mean showing the number insted showing the name which I save in my phone or sim card

Yes, that is a known issue even for Nexus 5 owners. An application bug probably to be fixed in next few versions. For now few people have found changing their contacts to international format helpful (like for Indian nos changing it from 022xxxxxxxx to +9122xxxxxxxx). It didn't work for many but there is no harm in trying for now. Do make sure to force sync contacts and then switch off your phone and switch back on.
Let us know if it helps!

Hey man, can you see if the latest Hangouts update with messaging will work on Gingerbread? I'm certain it won't, but maybe you can give it a shot again.
I checked all later versions but those don't work with SMS support. May be @theos0o can help us by enabling SMS support for all devices as he did for FB messenger.

Thanks for at least checking. I'm sure many of us appreciate it.

[Q] Running old Facebook Messenger with SMS in KitKat

Hello!
For ages, I held on to the old version of Facebook's messenger in order to retain the SMS chat head functionality. However, this was always a finicky feature as it would disappear depending on the model of phone and OS version detected.
When I loaded the APK onto my newly 4.4-flashed phone (CM11 based), it no longer gave the option to use SMS. With the advent of the default SMS app system in 4.4, I worry that the app wouldn't work at all, even if I fooled it into revealing the option to toggle SMS on.
Are there suggestions? If I modified the contents of the manifest to work with my phone and android version, would the archaic SMS handling system even work under 4.4?
Cheers, all
Sad, four-day bump.
Bump....please help. I need FB SMS on KitKat.
I have been searching for this as well.. Hope someone can let us know how to get this to work. Thanks!
bump.. same problem here
Biggest of bumps. I've been at this for quite a long time, but still no info. The lat stable rom for my GT-i9300 can only be KitKat based. Though I don't think that Lollipop would be any different regarding this issue. And I reeeeally don't want to get back to JellyBean. Anyone found out anything?

Debloated Stock JB Rom v1.0

I've made a debloated JB 4.1.2 rom from the latest (and probably last ever) Samsung code drop, the T699UVBMC5 release.
It mostly serves as a failsafe to determine whether issues that come up in current development roms are also occurring in stock, without having to run the heavy handed Samsung stock rom with all its useless applications.
I've removed most but not all apks, though you will find that there are no Samsung or T-Mobile apps left. There is no Wifi Calling, but for those who want that, someone can probably come up with a zip and the 3 or 4 apks that are needed to get that working again (I won't as I'm not in the US to test it).
I've dumped Touchwiz for Nova launcher as I loathe the slow default launcher.
I've added custom init.d script support and added a tethering "fix" script there that skips the t-mobile checks; someone in the US will have to test whether that's enough to skip any paywall tethering nonsense.
I've added the simplest flashlight that you can add to the lockscreen as an easy accessible torch.
Feel free to leave comments but I make no promises to put any further effort into this; if someone wants to refine this, be my guest.
Download here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B5bvupHweE3LcjFrU1ROUjBPeWs
Instructions:
- Wipe data if you are not currently on stock JB
- If you weren't on JB bootloader and modem, flash those first; get them here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2270769
- Flash attached zip
- Done. No Gapps flashing needed, supersu already included.
Note that if you are downgrading from KK, the mountpoint for /data/media/0 changes back to /data/media so you might want to move files around in order to prevent duplication of stuff on your internal sd. If you're worried, back up your stuff.
CHANGELOG
v1.0: initial release
- added simplest Flashlight app there is
- Nova launcher as default
- Tethering "fix" in /system/etc/init.d/
- Support for userinit.sh in /system/etc/init.d/
- Removed nearly all unneeded samsung and tmobile apps
- Removed wifi calling
- Added Google setupwizard
- Updated and integrated core Google apps into rom
- Added busybox, openvpn, sqlite3
- Supersu included
- Whatever I missed
Todo:
- Figure out if vold can be made to handle ext4 mmcblk1p1 (no - need to add mount attempt in init.qcom.post_fs.sh)
- Symlink /extSdCard to /storage/extSdCard in init.d script
- add ssh client (pull from cm10 or compile)
- add bash (pull from cm10 rom or compile)
Just flashed this, but I have no WiFi. I click it on but it doesn't turn on. I'm on TWRP 2.7.0.0, and everything flashed successfully. Any ideas?
Edit: no blue tooth either
You probably weren't on the JB bootloader and modem.
Get those from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2270769
Thanks! I'll try them when I get home.
Worked great. Thank you!
Seems stable, over the last 15 hours, or so, even compared to Cyanogen builds.
(Cyanogen's contacts (people) in blue&white with everything else a nice dark screen was terrible to look at and one of theirs actually rebooted at a "minimum of 1x" a day, while the other one wouldn't show all my contacts.)
My office is behind 3 concrete walls on the 3rd floor on top of a hill, and so I get about 1/2bars of signal, so I would like to have WiFi calling, can this be accomplished, maybe as a separate flashable pkg?
Bumpity-upity...
So this has been outstandingly-stable for a day and a half, but I would like to see this with WiFi calling enabled, or I cannot get phone calls or TEXT/SMS MSGS in my office...
One other thing I noticed in testing is there is no way to put in Exchange accounts (CORPERATE as it is called on some builds).
I would willingly drop a donation if these could be resolved, and I am sure that there are others with similar concerns?

IIRC, the bounty for getting T-Mobile's Wifi calling working on *any* custom ROM was pretty large. It's not gonna happen.

If you download the full stock image and extract it, simply push the relevant apks in /system/app to your phone. If you google a bit (samsung tmobile wifi calling apk 4.1.2) i'm sure you can find the apks that are needed.
I'm not in the US so I couldn't even test if I would do this. When you have identified the needed apks I can probably turn that into an update.zip.
Wi-Fi thetering?
Is you debloated ROM support wi-fi thetering? Does it work correctly on other carrriers (except T-Mobile)?
I know that in clean stock ROMs it is locked for working only with T-Mobile.
Same question here.
Can I use Wifi tethering with that rom.
I like lightweighted roms a lot because of the smooth handling and long lasting battery but I'd need Wifi tethering to use my tablet with the phone.
Thank you.
FSG
Update:
Unfortunately WIFI Tethering does not work. Whenever I start the program the phone reboots without warning.
Besides that the rom works well.

Same question here.
Can I use Wifi tethering with that rom.
I like lightweighted roms a lot because of the smooth handling and long lasting battery but I'd need Wifi tethering to use my tablet with the phone.
Thank you.

Update:
Unfortunately WIFI Tethering does not work. Whenever I start the program the phone reboots without warning.
Besides that the rom works well.

I have the same issue. Is there a specific application I'm supposed to use?

1. Same here.... its Wifi Tether not working. whenever press Save, it popsout "Hotspot Connecting" then it restarts the phone.
2. Is there a way to revert boot animation to Stock rather than Custom?
Thanks everyone
Hi! Is still anyone using this rom?
I need a lightweight one, and this looks great, but I need to be sure it works ok, and I really need tethering (from the last posts is not clear to me if that is working or not).
Wifi calling not really needed (but if someone made that work great

Help! Have DTEK60, and would like stock TCL/Alcatel apps

Hi Everyone!
I am currently the owner of a BlackBerry DTEK60 and would like to install some of the ]TCL 950 apps (same phone essentially). I have tried looking for the APK's for File Manager, Gallery, Video Player, Meeting Recorder, Find My Car, Music, and FM Radio apps, however have not had any success.
I downloaded the TCL950 rom from tclmobile.com.cn (through their baidu link), extracted, however I can't seem to find any of those apps in the /system/app and /priv-app folders. I reached out to the BlackBerry Beta Zone contact (since I am part of the beta program) to ask if those apps would be available in a future update possibly, but it seems there are no plans to add them unfortunately. This is a shame, as I have used a TCL 950 a client has and the apps are fantastic. Furthermore, since the hardware is capable of FM Radio (as an example), and a few other enhancements such as "dual-apps" (which lets you run 2 instances of the same app), etc. it's a shame that it seems to be crippled.
If anyone has any of these apk's or can compile them, I would be eternally grateful.
Also, I was wondering if there is any way to get WiFi calling working on the Fido network (it appears I need some files from the Fido LG G5 or Fido Samsung S7) and VoLTE. The option to enable IMS and VoLTE is enabled on my device and with my carrier, however it doesn't seem to work.
And finally, I'm having a strange issue with video MMS received. The video's appear as a separate audio file and separate animated image. Almost seems like they are not compiling properly when received. This happens with Google Messenger and Yaata (also tried textra) and the result is the same. Any ideas?
Thank you
