7.1 DP - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Here we go again 7.1 is out for 5 x and up. Anyone working on this is it possible? Or hard like it was with 7.0 beta?

Seems like it's more smooth, i think they are increased the touch sensibility.

I hope you realize that developers need source code to port the OS to a new device... There is only one developer preview for 7.1. I'm sure that as soon as source is released, people will work on it, just like they did with android 7.0... Official release is expected in December, so we'll have to wait...

Android 5.0 sourcecode? soon :)

http://www.androidauthority.com/android-5-0-lollipop-source-code-563560/
Well what do we have here, Android Lollipop being uploaded to AOSP as we speak! As you can imagine, a code dump like this takes a great deal of time, and it could be hours before everything is completed. At the moment, the branch is being referred to as “lollipop-release” and it carries a build number of LRX21M, though its official release tag should be android-5.0_r1 when it ‘fully hits’.
Even more exciting, it’s also only a matter of time before device-specific repositories for all Nexus hardware shows up, and at least a few have already surfaced including the Nexus 7 (2013) LTE ‘deb’ and Nexus 7 (2013) Wifi ‘flo’. It is worth noting that a new repository for Android TV is also available now, though it is hard to say whether or not the full code will be uploaded.
Once everything is uploaded, it’ll only be a matter of time before developers and many others begin playing around, bringing us hidden goodies and so much more. And before you ask, no the Nexus factory images are not up yet. Patience my friends, all in good time.

Its been published.
Sent from my Xperia L using XDA Free mobile app
The last time i checked, Lollipop source was still pushed but still it hadn't had key files to compile it for any device like manifest etc. It was giving an error. These files usually take few hours.
And the source code being published is for Nexus 7 , 5, 6 and 9.
There still wasn't anything for Nexus 4 or 10 or any other device.
However few sites cited that the manufacturers were handed the source to Lollipop and they were working on it as well.
I'm not sure how much time it would take to make their sources public.
As for Xperia L, I can't say when exactly but I'd say roughly about one to two months before any development is to be seen. The nexus 7 and 5 still haven't got OTA or Nexus Factory Images yet as I'm watching it closely.
Sony is surely not releasing lollipop for L so we would just have to wait for Aosp and Cyanogen to combine few lollipop sources to current device tree to give you somewhat of Android L which our device is capable of.
I hope this information be enough for now
Update
Source code is now complete. You can compile it for the above mentioned nexus devices. Still No official OTA or nexus factory images.
Little update :
Nexus Media Player and Nexus 9 Factory Images have been pushed. Still nothing for Nexus 7 or 5. Neither for Nexus 6.
Although source code have been pushed but I don't see any binaries yet for any Nexus devices which means that custom ROMs are still not possible. Although if you try to compile a custom ROM, you'd have glitches/problems due to missing binaries.
What this means is that unless Qualcomm doesn't release binaries for it's Snapdragon processors, we won't be able to get a ROM fully stable.
We can get some features to be merged in our device tree but I am not sure how lollipop would work perfectly without binaries/blobs.
Last time, I remember the graphics glitch was sorted partially by using Xperia Z blobs but still it didn't was as affective as it could be if it was for Xperia L itself.
What Xperia L need is binaries from Qualcomm and source code from Sony for Lollipop.
Let's hope for the best
Update 2
It is now rumored that update for the remainder of Nexus devices would come on 12th Nov as Google found some last minute bugs and wants to send of more polished and refined bug free android L.
For Xperia L, you can only wait for binaries from Qualcomm and source code from Sony.

Android O custom rom

Will there be any Android O custom rom for Nexus 5 because some people said that Android O might not support 32bit device. I actually consider to buy Nexus 5 since it cheaper than 5X. If Android O only support 64bit device I might get Nexus 5X.

I think it's better to save some more and get the Nexus 5X because Nexus 5 it's starting to become a legacy device
Why do people always jump on these developer previews and request them being ported to other devices? We're currently at the very first dev preview, this is not even a beta, and just about nothing is finalized right now.
We're going to see whether the Nexus 5 could be supported by third-party-ROMs when the source code for O drops. Until then, there's not really a point discussing it.
If you're looking for a cheap phone, I would consider getting a newer budget phone, like the Moto G5 /G5 Plus, or one of those cheaper Sony ones. You'll get better battery life, a much better camera and maybe even Android N/O, depending on the OEMs' willingness to update. Or just go with one of the Android One devices, if they're available in your market.
Unless you already own one, I don't see any benefit in getting a four-year-old phone.
If Google is testing Android Or for nexus 6, on got its code might be available. CNA we use it to port it to nexus 5??

If they would publish an official build for the n6 and with it sources, but since it is internal testing they most likely wont.
I've heard the update schedule for the Moto Z Play is promising Android O updates later down the line and the device has a 32-bit processor. Of course I believe that there's clever devs on here that could make something special happen

The Snapdragon 625 is not a 64-bit CPU. The phone itself does run a 32-bit ROM, however.
Now can it be built?

Oppo r15 Pro Android P

Anybody got it to work?
I'm over Coloros already (sick of the security, want vanilla android)
I downloaded Android P but it says Flash Failed when I try to flash it in (Coloros) recovery.
Yeah, I have it running on mine, but it's the first beta, so a bunch of stuff isn't working, hoping they will release a new rom soon...
What version of the phone do you guys have? Mine is the Australian one from Optus. I assume it doesnt automatically update the beta version like my Nexus 6P did when I enrolled in the program?
I also am getting annoyed with ColorOS as it has broken so many simple things my previous phone did e.g. Google Photos no longer wants to sync, calendar doesnt send me reminder notifications, googles alarm clock no longer works etc.
Would love to flash to stock android that automatically updated and be able to ditch ColorOS as overall the phones hardware seems very decent.
My main concern is the instructions say only Chinese phones should use that upgrade process and its impossible to revert without sending it to service in China. I am an IT Professional but I have never tried to flash with a custom rom in the past so a little wary of bricking my brand new phone =P
My model is CPH1831
Build number CPH1831AU_11_A.07_180705

Hey there Vyviel,
I have the Oppo R15 Pro CPH1831 also and purchased it outright from JB HiFi a couple of weeks back now - carrier is Telstra.
This is my very first Android device after having shifted over from a 6s Plus... I will say that I personally don't mind this ColorOS business ATM but then again I am unfamiliar with any of this custom ROM business... You are right about the hardware though... for let's say $600 AUD less than the Samsung Galaxy S9 it stands pretty tall in the spec department for the price of $779.
I am also in IT... that is to say that I have been tinkering now for about 15 years and at present I have 4 and a half units remaining on my Bachelor of IT degree.
Like yourself... I have not flashed a custom ROM, rooted an Android based device or recovered back to out of the box state in case one might need to get that all important warranty back in the game if the process manages to kick you in the proverbial sack... so we are in the same boat in not wanting to create a mid range in the expense scale paperweight.
I would really like to know how to do all of this in the safest way possible though and to be quite honest am finding it somewhat difficult to find a great deal of info on this phone.
I'm willing to share a few links that I have found in relation to flashing a ROM on one of these things if you wanna send me a PM (I'm unsure of the legalities of posting links here as I have only just joined XDA)... I'm not 100% sure of what to trust when it comes to the links (one is a Vietnamese site I believe) and all of these processes in general but it would be good to get a second opinion.
Anyways... this post is starting to read a bit like a book so I'll leave it at that for now.
Cheers mate
PS: Nothing against the Vietnamese people intended whatsoever - peace out

You aren't only here buddy, tried flashing my phone as well. Didn't work, got the same error. I think it's for the Chinese version of the phone, I'm not entirely sure.
Agreed, bought phone outright. No carrier/network lock. I've had it a week and also I am over the colour os!! I have had a bit of trouble with compatibility with my other home devices like screen mirroring, cloning/switching device data, Wi-Fi stabilisation etc... But have discovered that most option menus change and have slot more options if you have developer mode active whilst browsing through the setup menus.. Especially with device connections!!
But all in all I think I just want a normal android rom that will look like every other android menus but will utilise this devices nice hardware specs considering it bang for your buck price point!!
Sometimes you have to relise expectations and reality get clouded by hope...
Need Link to firmware - Oppo R15 Pro for latest Android P Beta
I happened to have the Chinese version (I believe). Can anyone post the link to the firmware being discussed on here?

ColorOS and Oppo aren't exactly known for their "immediate updates" if you wanted the stock experience and quick updates why not pick the Pixel?

Because the Pixel phones are an absolute ripoff for mediocre hardware. Google lost their way after the Nexus 6P.
Next time I will go for a OnePlus =)
Is it possible to use new android P on the ' OPPO R15 ' ? (not the pro version)
my phone (oppo r15) runs on color os 5.0 so i thought i could update the android version to ' Android P ' so that the chinese version will be gone.. so i can finally use the google app and services, guys does it work on the oppo r15?
Yeah i'm wanting to know this as well! ColourOS seems to be a pretty big limitation although judging on the firmware difference (CPH1835 vs CPH1831) i'm unsure if i can flash Android P yet.. anyone have a definitive answer?

I've had the May 2018 P Beta on a R15 Pro Chinese since... forever. It's pure trash, 80% of apps don't work due to mysterious crashes. It has not received an update at all since May 2018.
So now we either use trash ColorOS on which it is impossible to install GPlay on because of weird proprietary security, or we use near-stock but almost useless P beta. Either way it's almost a brick.

now you can get Coloros 6(https://www.coloros.com/topic/coloros6.html)
which has completely different UI from Coloros5.2/5.0, enough of too many bugs in Android P beta also , but things got changed now
They sure are taking their time with coloros 6. Im reading it should have been released in May but still nothing confirmed. I will never buy an oppo again as this is bad. Android Q (10) will be released soon and oppo is struggling to release android 9. What a joke.
Agreed #perryano. Their hardware is fantastic, but this ColorOS BS just destroys the whole experience and controls everything you want to do like the PRC. If I could just run vanilla Android, I would be a happy camper.

[Mi MIX 3] MIUI 11 and Android 10

Hi, i think almost everyone here heard about the upcoming MIUI 11 update (rolling out from middle October in China). I'm pretty excited about that, but i have a question i cannot answer myself. Will the MIUI 11 come with the new OS Android 10 or will it come just as it is without OS update? I'm asking that because of two things:
1) I've read somewhere that Xiaomi already confirmed Android 10 for our device.
2) Instead the MIUI 11 Beta, avaible in China, is actually based on Android Pie
So...what are your toughts about that? Feel free to answer!

this is true for beta version, (mi-Globe / EUROM)
yes im already on MIUI 11, but it still based on Android 9 no doubt.
but the introduction of new features makes you want to use this ROM more and more (personal opinion)
system-wide dark mode still misses some notif/popup windows (its still on light)
AoD new styles are great, very artistic
they said MiShare is faster, cant feel it. but its not slow. i think it feels the same as V10
and the other features were there just before we hit MIUI 11. I guess this would benefit the stable users more.
its actually not a night and day change. you kinda appreciate those little adjustments. icons, stuff like that. not much for themes tho
its one of those regular updates that you want to jump into. and yea its kinda pretty cool.

Hi, thanks for the feedback. I'm sure i'll like it too! Just hope they'll push Android 10 before Android 11 lol. I'm okay with Pie, it works good and has a HUGE amount of apps and will support them for long time for sure. On the other hand, this device in Global version was born with Pie so...would be nice to see at least one major update. I've heard somewhere that Xiaomi launched Mi MIX 3 with Oreo in China so basically Android 10 would be the last OS update even in EU/Global version because of some strange thinking about their update politics

This is so true. I've learnt the lesson with Honor 8. They wanted to kill the device but after a lot of time and people's petition they finally released oreo. Now i'm at the first experience with Xiaomi but as i've read around they're used to update frequently their devices. Don't know so much abouth their policies about updates though, so we can say i'm just hoping that the "Two major updates" rule will be followed

It usually gets to a point when a device is dead unless community keeps it alive. And that is awesome. I actually choose my devices partly attending to their development support. I still have my old hammerhead, 5 or 6 years on, and it is running nice pie roms and surely some 10's will come. Last google firmware is marshmallow. That is really cool
Still, of course it is good and nice that a newish devices keeps being updated by OM.
In my case, more than android version I wish xiaomi updated kernel source, but that is way too far fetched I'm afraid.
Right now I'm using MIUI 11 9.10.11 beta version and it's based on Android 10. I'm on the MIX 3 Android 10 close beta group and get updated everyday. This rom is quite stable and the only bug I found is the incorrect display of RAM which has no influence on my daily using. Magisk worked perfectly and I got 68HZ display so smooth XD.

Samsung Galaxy A20* | OneUI 4 ?

Just checked the list of devices receiving the Android 12 update with OneUI 4 and our beloved Galaxy A20 is nowhere to be seen. Since the A20 already got 2 major updates the possibility of Samsung putting any effort to surprise users is very low.
Multiple security updates are yet to come but any OS updates is highly unlikely.
What are your thoughts? Which custom rom are you going to prefer if any?
Edit : OneUI 4.1 ROM is now available for A205X. OneUI 5.1 is in beta.
I noticed Eureka are releasing a lot of Android 12 ROMS lately. There's:
LighthouseOS
PixelPlusUI
crDroid
ProjectArcana
SuperiorOS
AospExtended
evolution
Arrow
I haven't installed any yet because I don't really want to move from OS 11 to 12 at this time.

I've been following Eureka Team on Telegram for quite some time now. Almost all the Android S ROMs are test builds. Some common features and settings are missing. Those who implemented the features are broken in many areas.
Android 12 has impressed me with it's performance so far. It's noticeably faster than any Android R ROMs I've used.
Fingers crossed, I have a lot of hope in Eureka.

What ROM are you running now? Is there one you would recommend?
I'm using the Stock ROM - June update. Basically removed the features considered useless, installed Eureka and called it a day. Tried hKtweaks but it just makes the phone unstable.
Project Sakura is what stayed on my phone for the longest time. UI might look less uniform at times but does the job.
Custom ROMs are a mere hobby for me. If A20 is your daily driver then I won't recommend using any custom rom at all. voLTE is broken in all all of them. But I still try every ROM that comes out.
-------------------------
Exceptions of voLTE bug are the modded OneUI ROMs, basically debloated stock ROMs which you could simply do by rooting, no need to waste data for just more broken features.
