Need a calendar app with a year view widget. - General Questions and Answers

I am looking for it for a month and getting pretty frustrated by now. All those useless calendar apps are exactly the same it seems.
Does anyone know a calendar app that has a widget with a 12-month view? I just want it pinned on my screen without opening it every time... I never wrote any program but I start to think I will have to make it myself... with some open source base and a program to edit it or something.
Please, if you have any suggestions for a calendar app like this, or a suggestion on how to start writing it, let me know.

you want all 12-month view, you need this app for your tablet?

no, it's for my nexus 6p
there are plenty of calendars that have a whole year view inside the app, so I know it's perfectly visible on my screen,
but there are none that offer this kind of widget
but anyway, even if you find this kind of widet for microsoft windows PC it would be nice... but there is nothing like this even for windows, and it really pisses me off for some reason... does nobody in the world think ahead for more than a month? wtf...
edit: wow, I actually found one just now... only 2$ and works perfectly, called year calendar on google play store

You have also the app Annual view & widget who have multiple type of yearly views and other months views with their associated widgets

Asurion Mobile AddressBook for Android

Hello XDA,
I am one of the developers of the Asurion Mobile AddressBook and I would like to get some feedback on our product from the users here. I have been using this forum for some thine now for Winmo and respect the opinions of the developers here. It would be great to see what everyone thinks of the application. It is available in the Android Marketplace, just search Asurion. Or you can go to our site at http://www.getaddressbook.com/.
A little about AddressBook, it is a socially connected address book that allows you to get information about your contacts from different social sites like Facebook and Twitter right in the address book, through mini programs called Mixins.
Soon we will have an APK for developers to develop their own Mixins for AddressBook. When its ready I will post more information if anyone would like to beta for us.
AddressBook is still in a beta form and is available for 1.6 and 2.0 and above. Please try it out and let me know what you think. AddressBook is new and we are open to positive and negative feedback.
Thanks,
Peter
Just installed
Main app + all MixIn
It's a nice app, just a bit slow on my HTC Sapphire Magic Vodafone 32B with 2.1 Eclair Rom
I don't like "MixIn solution", why not a full app with all modules inside ?
I've launched main app, then I gone to market and installed Facebook MixIn for first.
After a lot of privacy authorization with some screen not well fitted I did a little war with Matching People, cause a lot of them were not matched nice.
I need Photos compare, cause I've some cases with two or more people with the exact name... like my cousins =)
I had some Facebook MixIn Force close Crashes and some com.google.process.gapps crashes too, right now...
I installed flickr and associate it with some of my contacts and no problems at all.
at last I tried Twitter and no probs with it...
I think it's a good app, but a bit slow...
last thing:
Support for all languages (I could translate it in Italian if you need)
I don't like number in this format 000-000-0000
or 00-000-0000
I know it's a developing app and I will wait for next releases of this.
Well Done
Good Job
This is some great feedback, thanks for taking the time to try it out and post back.
Just wondering
Is this ultimately going to be a paid application?
You know like:
5.99/mo
4.79/mo
1.99/mo
What's our deductible? :0
Haven't tried the app, but if you could spread the QR codes apart it will ease their reading.
Thanks for your app!
played with it 30mins.
1. got the main app
2. started a new a/c in www.getaddressbook.com
3. got the MixIn: Facebook
4. start the MixIn app, input Facebook a/c
5. click Allow buttons 3 times
6. MixIn starts to get contacts from FB
7. Auto Match
8. Manual adjust Auto Match results
9. Launch main app
The above steps took about 25mins (330 FB contacts; 300 gmail contacts; Auto Matched 180; manual picked out... haven't counted >_< i believe picked out 30 - 50).
Cool:
-Auto Match tried to best match FB | Local contacts even they are not perfect match.
e.g. Shirley Lam | Salei Lam (it matches)
-Facebook photos can replace local as well as sync. to Gmail Contacts
-Consolidated activities log (SMS, voice call, etc) for individual contact
Not:
-[MixIn: FB] Say you have some contacts named Peter Chan, you will get confused without some other hints like Organization.
I picked those contacts out in Auto Match to prevent mis-matching as Org is not displayed in Auto Match results
-[main app] Contact list won't remember the last viewed location.
I scrolled from top to Carol, click twice to view details, click Return and the contact list scrolls back to top.
-[main app] Slow. Maybe it's my outdated HTC Magic... (it's CyanogenMod 4.2.13 w/ EBI1 mod]
For me:
Keep and waiting for updates!
looks cool..will try this later when i get home for work..
speed is defiantely something that can be worked on.

It looks interesting but what you should definitely not miss is the T9 dialer. The way you can find contact by typing their name directly from the dialer is the only feature that makes me stay on 1.5. I tried other apps from the Market but nothing could match HTC's Sense UI dialer. If you can bring something clean similar to this I'm sold!
Another question for the community. Are there any features you are not seeing in the AddressBook that you would like to see, things that would make this app a must have?
Great work on the app. After using the app for a few days the main reason I stopped us using it was the user interface. Its not horrible but compared to everything else on the phone, it looks a bit outdated (quality wise). Other then the ui, it can be sluggish at times but nice work.

Darvo is absolutely correct. The T9 dialer is something that is sorely missing from most builds. I think it would especially appeal to stock users as well as those running cooked roms. I have been searching for a reliable answer to this outside of a Sense UI but haven't found anything that I'll stand by 100%.
Thank you .........
I appreciate your effort with AddressBook; however:
I find it extremely inappropriate and invasive that the app immediately syncs my contacts upon install to -- where? your servers?
There should be a clear warning that this is about to happen!
Please delete my data from your servers!
Also, the 'delete all' function on your site does not work, at least not with Safari. I 'moved' all to the 'delete' column on right, but clicking on 'delete selected' does nothing.
And with Chrome I couldn't even log in. Got some error about 'src' and try the support page.
I am sorry that app is frustrating you. There is a screen during setup that lets you know about the backup. This function can be turned off in the app. If you give me your user name I will delete your account from the database. The back up is meant to protect your contacts in the case that you loose your phone or get a new one. As for browser support, right now we are only supporting IE and Firefox. Again sorry the app is frustrating for you.
Great app!
I really like and appreciate this app. The 2 biggest features that drew me to waste countless hours playing w/ hero roms on my mytouch were hero's T9 dialer, and the social integration. I'll 3rd the motion for a T9 dialer in your app. No complaints otherwise. Bravo - and thanks for the great app.
P.S. Backup to server is a bit redundant in my opinion, because your contacts already sync w/ your Google acct - but, to each is own. I might be missing an advantage to it anyway. I just opted not to use it.
And props for soliciting feedback here in the forum - where the REAL users are.

Really? Because I can see in the options where to change the time and frequency of the sync, but I don't see how to disable syncing altogether. Maybe I'm just missing something?
Good catch, looks like there is a bug, you should be able to set it to not backup. We will work to get that fix in.
I have been playing around with the Hero, but I am not sure I have found the T9 dialer, what does it do?
Feedback
I've been following this app since it first arrived, and I must say bravo for doing what only HTC dared to attempt. It works well, too, except for a few things.
1. It may SEEM that scrolling smoothness isn't that important. Ask Apple, they'll tell you the truth: Its the only thing the masses give a Sh&% about, how something looks. So imitate the apple or hero contact style, because the one here is rough but needs only an easy fix! Smooth scrolling and better "sleek" colors. Same for the dialer.
2. It seems to run too often in the background, which slows my phone seemingly, no matter how often i taskiller it.
Eagerly awaiting the next release...

[REQUEST] Black Book

What I'm asking for is a program that acts as your digital Black Book for meeting girls. When I've met them, how many times we've slept together, hide private photos, videos, online backup etc.
It would be awesome if there was an ability to store photos and videos for the specific contact as well. First time I encountered a really good version of an app like this was the "My Little Black Book" for iPhone. I've been searching the net for over an hour now and can't find any app that's even close to that one for the Android platform.
The one for the iPhone is located here: http://saltlicklabs.com/products/little-black-book/
A similar app like that would be awesome.
Things that would be great to include:
Ordinary info
Name, number, e-mail and every other info that's inside the usual contact. Would be awesome if you could import from contact list, link to contact list or something like that
Photos/Videos
Import pictures from the photo library to a specific girl/boy and at the same time hide/delete them from the ordinary library so they can't be accessed without using the application. Comments and ratings of pictures would also be great!
Additional information
First date we met.
What's her/his favorite color, food, movie etc.
How many times have we met?
How many time have we slept together?
Hm, maybe this section should be customisable? The user adds his or her own informations fields based on text input like the above "questions" and then he or she can edit the numbers and text when things update. This way the information you can put on a date/person is infinite!
Custom lock code <-- VERY IMPORTANT!
Secure SMS and MMS inside the application. Threaded or non threaded view with MMS support. Be able to save MMS atachements to application secure media library.
Backup to online dump site like dropbox or FTP.
Also, would be great to be able to export data and pictures in a way that makes it look pretty nice. Word, Excel, HTML or whatever. Import functions for the exported data.
I think it's sad that no one have developed an app like this
If there is any developer that thinks that this is a great idea, I will gladly help out as much as I can with photoshop, tips, ideas, layout and everything else that's not related to programming.
I think this is a kind of app that will be very useful for many boys and girls around the globe
I'm eager to read your opinions!
Best Regards
Mistwalker

No offence... but I think it's pretty sad that you want this. I mean, I can understand what you want, but do you really need to keep a tally on your phone? Most people would just take satisfaction from the use of their time rather than counting it. It seems like you want to over geekify a quite pleasurable experience... Anyhoo, each to their own, I'm not judging
Secondly (the helpful bit), there are apps to hide folders/sms/files etc (a search on the market will return multiple apps) with a password or PIN. Could you use one of them instead? Maybe not the ideal solution for you, but at least you could hide those 'personal' pictures and texts

Doesn't really matter why he wants it, but I think and a Black Book app would just be convenient rather than have a lock on your photos and your sms and your file explorer. Also that could appear a bit fishy if were to have a wife/girlfriend. lol I would like to see an app like this as well...

Haha, yeah. You could. But it's not that convenient to do. It's easier to keep track of everything in one app
And by the way, it can be used for more than just that. For example, me and my friends, well. They have a pretty messed up way of what they think is fun. For example, they think it's awesome to take pictures and videos of when you do embarrassing things, when you fall asleep waaaay to drunk etc etc. We pretty much ends up with priceless pictures all the time With an app like this, it would be very easy for me to keep track of every funny thing someone have ever done So there are more usefullness than just the girls Or boys if you're a girl

[APP] Executive Assistant - for anybody whose inc is an office phone too

Holy guacamole! Has anybody else seen or used this app? I am amazed - its spectacular. It is a 1 stop widget for email / calendar / tasks / sms / missed calls / voicemail / facebook / twitter / google reader.
I just downloaded and installed the free version of the app from market and various add-ons and am positively blown away. Will be buying the paid version to get rid of ads when i get home.
I have been searching for something like this for weeks and found a reference on droidforums or something like that. My stupid, stodgy, underpowered, small low res screen, bad browser, no apps, no customization blackberry can now safely be consigned to the trash can! My d-inc will be my new work phone and with this app and the widgets I have absolutely everything I needed.
A few things to note:
1. Set up took a small bit of time for me but once set up properly it is great.
2. Editing any incorrectly entered settings is confusing since the menu button keeps pulling up general phone settings. You have to click inside the widget and then press the menu button to get the app settings. They should make that better.
3. The widget app does not seem to support exchange email - just gmail including google apps and other IMAP/POP accounts such as yahoo, hotmail - you need paid accounts for those last 2 I believe. I guess for my exchange account i will use the htc widget (strangely though the app does support exchange calendars).
4. There are countless settings - spend the time to figure them out. Font size, color, background - way too many things can be changed.
5. I confused myself by using it on the lockscreen - when you switch on the screen, you dont see screen unlock - you just see a summary page of the emails / calendars etc etc. - you have to click the home button to get the slider to unlock your phone.
6. http://www.appventive.com/executive-assistant is the app site but there is not a helluva lot of info there. You are a bit on your own in figuring out the settings etc.
7. I have 2 google emails - 1 personal, 1 office g-app and of course google voice. It did not like that and would not login into all my email and voice till I entered their passwords properly instead of letting the app gather that from the device settings.
8. I have not tested battery drain yet but I suspect it will lead to some since it seems to pull the emails rather than just polling the android apps.
For anybody who wants to use their droids as work related phones - this is by far the best thing I have ever come across.
not that I'm cynical, and it does look interesting, but this post sure sounds like developer pumping his app

hahahahaha. check my other posts - u will see i am a noob tinkering around - not a dev or anything like that - probably sound too excited because i finally got an app which makes my bberry (useless junk i was forced to use since the iphone is bad too) replaceable. am a private equity guy - i know financial statements not java or whatever android is written in.
PS: there is 1 more drawback - if u try to use multiple widgets, 1 setting applies to all. So u cant have 1 widget for SMS/Twitter/Facebook and 1 for email - maybe i am doing something wrong but thats what it seemed like.

triple it, it a deal breaker for me, great idea though. would buy it if it was able to read from the exchange mailbox (i don't want yet another mailbox checking or recieving, its already downloading the email, just read that inbox?)
If anybody can recommend anything better, I would love to try that. I suggested this only because there is nothing better than this out there - at least I have not found any. Even without exchange, there is no consolidated widget for all the things in 1 screen.
I have a JB iphone 4 too and I use lockinfo (cydia app). That's the best implementation of a launchpad for various items (calendar, weather, email, missed calls, sms, voicemail, notifications, tasks, twitter) and so on... So far no such widget/app seen on the android platform. This one is close but as you can see from my comments too, its not perfect.
I have Executive Assistant and I must say it's very useful.. if you're looking for something else that also displays all information you might want to try Slidescreen and Slidescreen Pro. I'm not sure if you can read exchange mail through them but they're very clean and professional looking.. they act as a new home though.
Good find!
Checkin out the free version now, no exchange support isn't an issue for me as I don't use it, but if the rest of the app is solid and the dev has enough of a following, I think it's safe to say that exchange support can be expected down the pipeline (Here's hoping since I know a lot of folks use it!)
OK, bought full version, dude SWEET find! Been looking for something like this!

Google Now Widget/Homescreen

Ok so I did a lot of searching and have not been able to find anything for this... I found a couple of threads started by people asking if it is possible or if there is one that exists but those did not receive any real responses so I'm hoping that one of the amazing devs here can help please. I'm debating making a thread in the general Android Development forum so that maybe I'll reach a wider audience.
So what I'd like is a homescreen widget, or possibly a Live wallpaper, which shows the live cards from Google Now.
There are countless Google Now themed UCCW skins that people have put out. I don't want that.
I also found a way to create homescreen icons that LOOK like Google Now cards. But all those do is launch apps, they do not update with live information from Google Now.
I'm not sure why Google Now wasn't created with a widget. It just seems to make sense. It's kind of annoying that you have to open the app to get all this information, instead of having it right in front of your face on your homescreen where you can access other apps quickly as well. I mean the point of google now is to present you with information before you need it right? How is that possible if I can't get the info without opening the app.
So I'm hoping there is, if anything, some sort of work around here.
Maybe someone knows of a way to create a widget with desktop visualizer that will show the live Google now cards and update them.
I'm hoping for a scrollable widget that will be almost exactly like Google Now (i.e new cards will pop up as they do in the app, you can scroll up and down to view all of the cards you currently have, you can swipe to remove cards - (come to think of it you probably won't be able to swipe to remove cards, but maybe a double tap or something?))
It would probably be best if this widget did not include the google search bar and simply showed the google now cards.
I remember hearing about an app in the past that could overlay live wallpapers on each other. Is there a way to overlay an app into a live wall paper? so that you could see Google Now as your live wall paper, even if maybe you can't actually interact with it this way?
For now I'm going to try setting up something with tasker, so that google now will automatically open every morning when I turn off my alarm, and possibly at other points (maybe when a new card pops up or something). Something similar to this could probably be done with the smart actions app if people are interested in trying that out. But honestly I feel like this is not the best solution because I'd rather not have tasker running constantly, eating my RAM and therefore my battery.
So I don't know if the reason there is no widget already is because it simply is not possible. And if it's not possible could someone please explain why?
Also, so that I can try to work on this myself - can someone please help me by telling me which files Google now uses for getting and updating cards? (i.e. the file names I would see in Titanium or under Settings>Apps or in a file explorer where they would be located - I'm guessing somewhere in the /system/ folder) If I can access these I can play around with them and try some things out
TIA to all who reply...
Given that Google Now is a bit of a battery drain already, I'd imagine that having it constantly running and updating cards would use even more. The cards ARE available in the pulldown menu, aren't they? I haven't used it in a while... Still on ICS until Moto+Rogers updates the OS sometime in Q1 '13 now. >.<

I got a Razr Maxx HD because I don't want to worry about battery drain. It's been something holding me back with every other phone I ever owned. I hear that the regular Razr HD gets pretty amazing battery life as well. I'm not looking for reasons why I wouldn't want this. I'm looking for reasons why it would not be possible or a way to make it possible.
Sorry to hear about Rogers...
But if you are rooted you should be able to install Google Now for ICS

Facebook Missing from My Magazine Isn't Accidental

My Magazine's really cool primarily because of local and social integration. A lot of folks had trouble with Facebook in the social section. Either it didn't show up as an option or, if it did, it would disappear soon after it was configured. I e-mailed FlipBoard support and this was their response. Social in My Magazine's kind of useless without FB. Oh well.
This annoyed me too

Very likely the blame goes to FB. They cut a lot of other companies off at the knees and blocked them so turn about is fair play. Tell FB to accept cross app connections.

The wierd thing is the functionality is there. Early on in setting up my device it didn't appear but people said they got it back after a hard reset. So I hard reset and sure enough it came back and I was able to get it setup and Facebook posts appeared in my social feed. The next time I looked at the feed Facebook was gone again.
So whatever happened must have occured after My Magazine was designed. Facebook can piss off Flipboard and get away with it. Samsung's a little bit bigger and I'd imagine with their installed base of mobile devices Facebook wouldn't want to have them as an enemy. That's if any of the three really give a crap whether My Magazine's social feed supports Facebook.
Facebook isn't even that great. I'd jump to Google plus in a second if my friends would come with me

Agreed, but that's exactly the point - most people won't switch, so we're all stuck with Facebook no matter what.
I have to admit this is a real bummer to me; My Magazine was actually the feature that sold me over to the Note 3 instead of the G2. Now if I can't access my Facebook feed on it, it's not that great, really.
Incidentally, Instagram suffers from the same issue; it's available just after doing a factory reset, but disappears after a short while.
In the best of cases, this is a simple licensing issue, i.e. the deals between Samsung, Flipboard and Facebook/Instagram were not finalized in time for the release of the phone, and will be in a matter of days or weeks. On the other hand, FB has the upper hand in the negotiations (Samsung can't prevent users from downloading the Facebook app on their phones, but Facebook can prevent Samsung/Flipboard from accessing their servers), so maybe they'll never reach a deal.

Wow, the university forces student to use a particular social network? Malaysia boleh! Gila lah!
I'd use G+ a hell of a lot more if they had a reasonable API for 3rd party apps to support. I don't want to have to load up each individual social app to view the networks I'm on, I want to just do it once.

Those screenshots seem to be taken from within the Flipboard app, not from within My Magazine.
Actually it is indeed possible to see Flipboard from within My Magazine: when I boot the phone and do not start flipboard, then My Magazine seems to be autonomous, pressing 'back' at the top of the screen after reading an article brings me back to My magazine. If, however, I start the Flipboard app, and then open My Magazine, then pressing 'back' within My Magazine brings me to Flipboard. But not always. If I navigate to the 'Social' tab and back, it doesn't. This is clearly a bug.
Anyway, that actually has to be the silliest part of this story; Facebook works fine in Flipboard, but not in the Flipboard-based My Magazine...
I always forget that the Note 3 has my magazine and I never use it.

Wish I didn't have to hard reset to get Facebook....I've already got everything set up. Don't feel like doing it twice.

You can setup Facebook and Instagram fine after a hard reset. Within hours they'll be gone. Hopefully whatever's causing FlipBoard to suppress them will get resolved and they'll reappear permanently.
Any news on this issue? My magazine is a very useful and full of potential feature, it's a shame that has these bugs! I hope an update will come soon. ..

Makes two of us who checks mymagazine for a fix update few times a day.
Despite of Facebook and instagram problem, my country Turkey is not listed for news resources option. This is unbelievable as most other countries(even smallest ones!) are listed in news sources country options.
I was so glad to hear that Note3 was coming with a special flipboard version pre installed as I was a fan of blinkfeed of HTC one, but turns out it is not even a usable version at all. Such a huge waste of a great idea gone sucky. I hope they release an update soon to fix this.
