non-stock looking roms - Moto G 2015 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Can someone make a list of roms that dont look like stock (example:miui)? if there are any...

nope everything is aosp or cm. just install a theme or something

What do you want?
Part of the beauty of Android is you can make Android "look" like anything, the best bet is to try a different launcher or launcher theme, there are literally dozens of decent ones in the Play Store. Try Flow Home, Next Launcher, SPB Shell 3D, TSF Shell, Regina 3D, or Claystone as a few placed to start.

flymeOS,sailfishOS,MIUI..
but all the devolopments are still under construction
no getting taste of them on Moto G2015 yet

Sense like calender widget

I just moved from the HTC Eris(Hero) to a Motorola Droid 2 and so far I am liking it, but i am missing Sense calendar widget. Is there anything in market or something an XDA dev created that is similar to it? Or is there some how a way to get it working on the D2 with out Sense, which I hear because of the locked boot-loader is not possible at the moment. Thank you.
Launcher Pro Plus has a built in calendar widget that looks very good and similiar to the sense calendar.
No, it can't be ported because Sense is closed source and widgets rely too heavily on the sense framework. I use pure calendar grid for this function.
I prefer not to use another launcher as I am enjoying stock Android right now(a difference change from sense which I really like). I will take a look at pure widget.
BTW they were able to get most of sense on the original Droid/milestone because the boot loader was not locked. Or on the G1, G2, and other HTC device that didn't natively come with sense. As long as you have access to the framework and bootloader I think you can use a sense based rom.

For what it's worth LauncherPro is based on the stock launcher, and is almost the same in terms of looks.. just added smoothness and functionality like said widgets, resizing, built-in notification dock, etc.. you could even put the Froyo dock background on it and it would look just like the stock Android. Just saying in case you think it will look all themed-out..

Yes but you are not able to use the widgets without using the sense launcher... it's as easy as that
I will demo both and see what I like better. I just assumed that pro meant paid version.
Edit: I guess if I want the calender widget I have to go with the paid plus version. I wish I could demo the Plus before I make a decision.
I have tried a few calendar Widgets including the one from launcher pro and Calendar Pad, but found that Jorte is the best one for me and my wife. Many options from sizes to colors. Extremely customizeable.
Look up Jorte in the marketplace, plus it's free
I use jorte. I think youll like it, http://androinica.com/2010/04/16/jorte-is-a-promising-android-calendar-replacement-app-reviews/
That doesn't look like a bad option either. Hmmmm.

I'm really green when it comes to the whole android world, can anyone tell me if it is possible to a 3d shell on my G Tablet, and if so how to get it done? Thanx!
re: 3D Launcher
If that is the same thing as a launcher (the main interface) you can flash Vegan 7 RC1 Gingerbread then look at gojimi's site under downloads and there is a 3D Launcher that you can add on. I tried it on Vegan and on the latest G-Harmony GB. It functions as expected on both, however, it does not seem to be very customizable.
Another option is to search for "Regina 3D launcher" on the Android Market.
Finally I am pretty sure that ADW EX (paid) has some 3D elements.
I always end up going back to the launcher included in Vegan 7 RC1 or the newer version thereof (1.6.1 I believe) though I cannot recall where I found that one.

I first thought this was a thread about some new kind of electronic vomiting
anyway....
If you mean SPB Mobile Shell, look in the Themes/Apps section, there is a thread there about getting it working.

[POLL] Best Tablet Launcher? (OLD - Non ICS)

Simple poll for you guys, just want to know some pro's and con's of each launcher and how well each functions on the tablet.
I have tested most of these on my SGS II but have only been using the stock one on my Transformer.
SO what are you guys using?
Stock. Tried all of the other three and keep coming back to stock. Just seems so much cleaner and quicker.
ADW is smooth, but it's confusing with all it's options and settings. It took me some time to find the settings that work best for me. Definitely works for me as I haven't tried other launchers.

Agreed. The nontablet launchers are too odd on tablets and ADW Ex just seemed a little off.

Stock for me, hopefully with ICS we will get something like Nova Launcher, I love it on my Nexus, just ike stock with more options

ADWex for me, it has it's issues but once you get past them and merge it with
multi-picture live wall paper and simple text it's really quite nice. Just wish they would optimize it more for tablets.
ADW has way more options but with the latest Revolver build, I have started migrating back to stock (re aranging all my apps and stuff) because it uses up less memory and feels pretty damn smooth with default settings. Still, if you want to choose everything and run live wallpapers with little or no lag, ADW EX is a better launcher.
Im surprised more people dont use GO Launcher, its a great launcher, i use it on my SGS II
I use Go Launcher as well. I use it on my ZTE Warp, Herotab C8, and the TF101. I have used ADW and other launchers, but keep coming back to Go Launcher. It's just so versatile and easy to use. The addon's make it worthwhile also.
Stock
For me Stock on the Transformer seems very smooth and seamless, no reason to switch it up. However with other tablets I did like to use VTL
I have tried stock / pro launcher / go launcher / regina / spb shell 3d / adw ex
Out of all of the above i like adw ex it is the quickest most durable launcher i have used.

Add one for Stock, I have tried the others and they don't seem like they are meant for tablets. The only thing I miss is adjustable widgets. Other than that, stock seems like it just works. I do wish we had more options to manipulate the app drawer, and maybe a dock. Other than that....

Yeah i love the stock launcher but want more options like trebuchet or nova. any way to port these to honeycomb?
Stock!
Agree that all others are a bit confusing, but still, saw beautiful screen from people using them.
ADW ex is my choice for those that want to tweak.. it's not quite as smooth as the Stock Launcher, but its the best alternative.

Are you new to tweaking??
I have ADW EX as the default system launcher, apk in /system/app/ and killed the stock one its way way faster than stock and can be kept simple or really complex plus it doesnt seem to slow down as much with widgets unlike stock and is a smaller size launcher than stock.

The only tablet optimized launchers are Stock and ADW ex launcher, Go launcher, Launcher pro and the others are still designed for mobile phones. Mainly because they have that stupid dock that can't change orientation. At least ADW ex has the option to remove it and or make it better.
ADW EX Launcher is my choice at the moment. I've tried:
Stock - Not enough customization options available, especially the option to resize widgets
SPB 3D - Very impressive looking and much more suited for tablets than for phones (in my opinion), but didn't seem to work properly with MultiPicture Live Wallpapers. Can't seem to be able to make each screen with a different wallpaper. Gave up on it and went back to ADW EX.
Regina - Good, but not great and still has the same lag that I experienced when I tried it on my phone too.
So ADW EX seems to be my most successful. Any others out there that are just as friendly with customizations, and provide a smooth, mostly lag-free launcher experience???? If so, let me know...
I use iLauncher at the moment. Try using it with custom icons. Its simple, clean and superfast, except for the swipe to the "Search" page.
Greetings
I used ADWex for a while. I ended up uninstalling it trying to isolate an issue causing the system to lag. The lag went away, though I have no idea for sure if it was ADW or something else.
After going through a ton of different ADW configs, I found I just didn't have enough reasons to run it. What I really wanted was the expandable folders, and I found using the stock launcher with CircleLauncher widgets did a good job of bundling my icons into groups...

I'll probably stick with this until ICS comes out, and then see what is out there.

Latest Launchers

It is possible that I have tried every launcher out there from ADW to Zeam .. I always end up back with the simplest one there is I think the Launcher 7 .. BUT IT IS SOOOOO VERRRRY UGGGLLY !!! When I want the EXACT OPPOSITE I tried SPB Shell 3D .. I have spent too much money buying and not using too many of them. Go Launcher is free and I like it --- SORT OF .. Most recently I got Regina and I thought it was going to be "the one" but you can't change or add any programs to the bottom task bar. Just curious what others are using and why before I spend any more money .. to tell the truth I don't know if there are any others that I haven't tried.
Have you tried SPB Shell 3D or TSF the later being super super smooth!
Sent from my GT-N7000 using Tapatalk 2
Somehow I missed an earlier post about the "top 3 launchers." I looked at about 45 seconds of the TSF launcher and promised myself not to jump in there and buy it but couldn't stop myself .. I just installed it and can't wait to start playing .. Good thing it is a VERY SLOW day here at work else I would have to just excuse myself and go home and play with my new launcher. I was wondering if a time would finally come where I stopped being a gadget-a-holic .. the answer is NO. I am old enough to collect Social Security but lucky that I don't have to yet because Social Security $$ are not enough to pay for my addiction to gadgets.
According to me these are the top 5 launchers based on smoothness, utility and simplicity:
1) S 3 Launcher (simple and fast)http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1684026
2) Apex Launcher (simple and fast)(download from playstore)
3) SSlauncher( u might like this one as u like 7 launcher)(download from playstore)
4) Dx Home Launcher ( again a nice one)(download from playstore)
5) Xperia Launcher( nice ui with small icons for galaxy note) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=25942989
and one more thing don't waste your money buying stuff for android..its Android baby!! Enjoy
Apex Launcher is smooth but has weird issues on redraw (black screen) sometimes on the Note. Nova Launcher works smoother and doesn't have that problem.
There's also the oldie but goldie... LauncherPro. Yes it hasn't been updated for a long time but a) it works and b) it's fast, even without gpu acceleration. Pity it's missing a few "modern" features like nice-looking folders and newer transitions...
Apex works for me.
I can hide the docks to make the screen simple - - minimalist at most.
SS Launcher definitely, its fresh air compared to other launchers... drawback is one's learning curve and creativity limitations lol
Nova Launcher
Installed Nova launcher on Rooted stock ICS ROM, it works perfect with all of the features in free version on rooted device with widgets and all. it also consume less memory & battery.
I am a fan of Apex but the Black redraw and freezing became a big headache. I just installed Nova and i only get a small redraw here or there. No more waiting 10 seconds for the black screen to disappear and have the homescreen visible again.
Will wait for Apex to fix it, till then sticking with Nova Prime.
Try "360 Laucher" really great and ergonomic with options who he is alone to have that
Nova, Apex, ga launcher all are good but if you need a breath of fresh air try SS Launcher preferably with oriental theme i am sure you will love it......
Found one that is simple with a lot of bells and whistles also. I like it, I think ... It is called "Hi Launcher."
TSF Shell all the way, it really is the dogs bollocks, nothing is as smooth on my Note.
I like it too ... in the youtube video. I haven't figured out how to do anything with it.
MiHome launcher of MIUI is just out, give it a try! its nice and everything seems working fine esp. the theme manager, but dont forget its only for ics though.
upvote for sslauncher too. lovely what you can do with it, i themed it to be magazine-styled
......then i upgraded to ics, and i forgot to back up my sslauncher settings
Nova ! The best for me and my gf ^^
(+ prime)
Watch out for the "coming soon" tsf v1.5.0!!! Can't wait any longer, c'mon guys!!!!
When I bought my Note, I installed Go Launcher EX like 6 hours after, and used it until recently when I updated to ICS. Now I use Nova Launcher PRIME. (it's the Pro version) It's totally smooth for me, on stock ROM and RocketROM (those are the only two I've tried), the battery doesn't seem to be suffering anything.
Besides the nice homescreen, what I like best about it is actually the app drawer customization. Folders and tabs, and none of that quasi-advertisement extras on Go Launcher (I'm referring to the links to the Go Store on the menus and on the app drawer itself) But that folder and tab thing (+ some effects and blah blah blah) are only on the Prime version.
Depending on the level of customization you like to work with, you can pick between the free or prime versions. But for me, I super-super-customize it so Prime is a good deal for me.

I have been using Apex in all ICS roms and never had those issues until I flashed a LQ3 based ROM. Now I get that often. I might be going to Nova to see if it works best but I miss all the transitions..so I guess I better get the Pro version.

Comparison of Android Launchers

Myself and a lot of other Android enthusiasts have been writing a pro/con comparison of the most popular and useful Android Launchers available. It is coming together nicely but there is always room for improvement. The whole site is much like a wiki where in everything compiled is community created and to be used as a source of information, of course the site is advertisement free as well.
Being that this was created by an Android community I figured it only fair to share it with other Android communities.
Each launcher is broken down by pros and cons of it’s features and problems, making for an easy way to see where they excel and fail as well as an easy way to compare to one another.
You can see the summary view of all the launchers here.
You can also click on each one to read all pros/cons not just the ones in the summary page.
The launchers so far included are:
Nova Launcher Prime
Google Now Launcher
Yahoo Aviate Launcher
Smart Launcher Pro 3
Buzz Launcher-Smart&Free Theme
Action Launcher 3
Apex Launcher
Go Launcher EX
Z Launcher Beta
Yandex.Shell
Launcher 8
ADW.Launcher
APUS Launcher
Lightning Launcher eXtreme
SF Launcher
Themer: Launcher, HD Wallpaper
Next Launcher 3D Shell
Mi Launcher (MIUI)
CM Launcher
SF Launcher 2
Hola Launcher
Zeam Launcher
EverythingMe Launcher
Zero Launcher
Hope you guys like it and feel free to add to it to make it even better and more useful.
As expected, nothing much can really beat Nova. Expected Apex to be higher though.

Eh, there's something to be said about stock experience, but, seriously, some of the things Google locks down or forces are odd.
I always find reviews that start with 'one of the cons is that the many options for customisation can be a bit daunting' (or the equivalebt thereof) to be utterly useless; particularly when the core feature of the very app is the massive amount of customisation. The many options are the reason people use launchers. How is that a negative?
Why on earth would someone who doesn't want all those options even consider using the app?
It's like saying one of the cons of android is all the different settings and options. That's not a negative, it's the main reason we bought the bloody thing in the first place!

Not always. There are different reasons for why people use launchers (or OSs).
