Fiio X7 Android 5.1.1 - strange launcher behaviour - Please help - Miscellaneous Android Development

Hi Guys,
The Fiio X7 is an android based DAP, it's recently received an update to Lollipop 5.1.1. The device can be rooted using Kingoroot / kingroot.
It has a default launcher called 'Launcher3' which I believe is the AOSP launcher and is also able to be set to what they call 'Pure Music Mode' where the launcher can be set to their Music application (apparently closes all background processes). This can be toggled in the quick settings pulled down from the top.
I am able to install a new launcher - Nova for instance, but cannot set it as default, when the option is selected within Nova, the default launcher immediately pops back up and Nova seems to be shut down (not in the recent apps list). This occurs with any other launcher.
Checking any Launcher within Apps the 'Launch by defaults' section states 'No defaults set' and the 'Clear Defaults' button is greyed out. Default launcher applications don't seem to work either.
So the launcher lives in /system/Launcher3/Launcher3.apk and I've managed to replace this with the Nova launcher apk after renaming it to Launcher3.apk via adb push. This causes the Launcher 3 to throw up errors as expected, but after rebooting the Nova launcher works fine as the default launcher. Even persists after shutting the device down / rebooting it etc.. at this point I thought I had solved the problem...
However leaving the device on for some time, something happens and the Nova launcher process seems to be killed. After this occurs, it goes into the 'Pure Music Mode' launcher, pressing the home button does nothing, and as this isn't an actual launcher means that no applications or anything can be launched. The only way to get things working properly again is to re-flash the firmware (it is a update.img) using Fiio's application leaving me stuck with the default horrid launcher....
It seems that somehow and for some reason Fiio have baked the launcher into the firmware making it impossible to change it's behaviour. I'm hoping someone here can shed some light on how to eradicate this.
Thanks
Paul

[Q] HUGE Problem Changing Default Launcher!

I've been stuck two days now trying to change the default launcher on my MIUI ROM. It sounds like a simple task, but for some reason, it isn't. The problem is when I switch to another launcher, pressing home always returns to the MIUI default launcher, no matter what I do.
Some of what I have already tried:
1) I've allowed MIUI to give full root permissions to the launchers. But I cannot clear defaults or manage permissions for MIUI's launcher in settings, as it is greyed out.
2) Tried setting the launchers to set themselves as default (and keep in memory), within their own settings wherever possible.
3) I've tried several apps promising to change defaults to allow for alternative home launchers. None worked.
4) Tried changing BUTTONS (in Android settings) to have the HOME button do nothing or open recent apps. No matter what, it always quits the 3rd party launcher and returns to home of MIUI launcher.
5) I tried freezing MIUI's launcher and running Apex. This finally worked to keep Apex as default! Except after I rebooted, it got stuck on boot and I LOST EVERYTHING.
5) I upgraded MIUI unofficial ROM to 4.2.2, then 4.9.19. No difference.
6) If there is an option to "set default launcher" in a given app, and I try to set it to that launcher, it will only allow the MIUI system launcher as an option, and automatically return me to the MIUI launcher!
As far as I can tell, the problem does not appear to be related to: the phone, the ROM, or the launcher app. Why, because I had ADW working fine for years over a slightly previous version of this MIUI ROM (v4.1.2). I can't remember when things changed, but probably some time after trying Apex. But now, setting the launcher to ADW again changes nothing, the system still returns to MIUI home.
ROM: MIUI v5, (Blackwing182) version: 4.9.19
Android: JB 4.2.2

Have you already attempted setting ADW as the default launcher, immediately going into the directory where the MIUI launcher .apk is, deleting it, and then rebooting? Make a full system backup first, of course.
If you do that, I believe your system will have no choice but to use ADW upon booting.
I do not want to use ADW any longer, but yes, I just did that (after installing a third earlier version of the Blackwing MIUI ROM, v3.9.27). I did not remove the MIUI apk, but froze it (same effect). The phone did not boot into ADW. It just froze on the MIUI logo screen. I also can't set ADW as the default launcher, via settings.
I've literally spent an entire day on this problem, and still can't quite pin it down, because all this *used* to work. I had this same ADW app with one of the aforementioned versions of MIUI, running for ages with over 200 apps on the phone. My best guess is it must be a conflict with one of the installed apps, but then..... why is it acting up *now*?!.
On top of everything, I did a back up of my system&apps with ROM Toolbox AND the MIUI Backup app before messing with the MIUI launcher and having to redo the ROM. Now when I try to restore, *both* of those apps no longer have their backups! (insert angry emoticon)
It's looking like I can no longer use MIUI on my Galaxy S3.... the only ROM I ever liked! :crying:

Mate 9 occasionally defaults to stock launcher even though using Nova.

Hi all,
I've had a strange experience recently where at least once or twice a day whenever I close an app the phone defaults to stock launcher rather than Nova ( Nova is selected as default launcher)
I then have to manually go into settings and reselect Nova as default launcher.
Anyone having this issue or have any idea how to fix?
Thanks.
Me. mAny many many and many times. I give up of using nova launcher and I am using the horrible native launcher. Completely annoyed.
I am using nova for the past week. The only time I had this issue was when I tried to add a widget that is specific to the native launcher. I supposed you have added the launcher to ignore optimization?
I've got the same problem. Do you have the MHA-AL00? On the AL00 I definitely have this problem, but I don't remember having this problem on the L29. Yesterday, I set it for Nova to ignore battery optimizations, and it's been okay since then, though. Not sure how much that matters.
Edit: Literally ten seconds after typing this message, my phone went back to default launcher, so that's not how it's solved unfortunately.
There is a Nova setting called "Agressive Desktop". Enabling it seems to have fixed the issue.
A day later: Confirming that it works!!
===
This is Chinese model MHA-AL00
I've selected the aggressive desktop option...Will see what happens. I think this is specific to the Chinese ROM ( my handset is Chinese )
As an aside I dont see an option for a daydream clock in my ROM?
Smart Launcher here, no probs!
Didn't work for me. Still switches back despite enabling aggressive desktop.
There is one thing you can try, and that is to lock it in the recent apps list. Nova launcher settings won't show up if you are currently using the launcher. So set the default launcher to Huawei Home first. Then open Nova launcher and goto nova settings.
Press the home button, which should take you back to Huawei Home. Press recent apps. Nova settings should now show up in the recent apps. Press the little lock icon and lock it.
Not sure if it will work for you. So far it is okay for me.
Have tried the recent app lock mate... Thanks for the tip!
I just find all the Chinese android versions have super aggressive app kill properties, even after you go through all the optimisation and turning it off it still does it. The final jigsaw always seem to be locking the app into memory in the recent apps list. I had a xiaomi previously and that phone used to kill things even locked in recent apps -.-
Also was using the phone with Assistance & voice input setting changed to launcher 3 and trusted agent set to Smart Lock (Google). Today Smart Lock randomly popped up with my home address.
So right now I also have it auto unlocked while at home (not via bluetooth only). Now the problem is I cannot access the setting again
I agree. I did stop buying their phones for this reason but couldn't resist the mate 9
Hmmm... This was an issue that really bugged me, but it works now. Nova stays as default, and it's solid. Besides the Aggressive Desktop, I gave Nova all the possible permissions, so re-check that.
Tried aggressive desktop as well as locking in recent but nothing seems to work. Any other ideas?

Mate 9 and nova launcher

Still no fix for this, can't use it it crash and returns to stock launcher already try agressive Mode and lock from the recent apps. I own the chinnese model

No problems with nova on the l29 usa one.. Open nova launcher then go back to home then Try opening ur recent apps and hitting the lock on nova launcher. Also make sure nova launcher is set to not close on phone lock.
No problems with nova. L29 western Europe model.
Must just be a Nova setting you need to check....
I have the AL00, and it works just fine. Did you install it from the play store? I have found some of the widgets from EMUI clashes with Nova, but if you stick to widgets from Google play, you should be fine.
Yes, do not use any of the widgets of EMUI. I have had no issues since doing that.
That's it. Stock weather widget was the problem.
Thanks everyone

I have the same problem. I give to nova all permission but The problem persists.
Also, if I use the emui the hot word ok Google does not work. someone help me
I have nova latest version running on AL00 without any issues even after restart nova continues as my default home also notification are working with no issues. I did give full permissions to all nova apps and full notification access.
The issue is Bluetooth bug. Toggle the Bluetooth connection with another device resets the default home. If you don't use bluetooth then you won't have that issue.

I've been using Bluetooth with my car, my fitbit and echo without any issues and still nova stays as default
if rooted, use titanium backup to freeze the "launcher" the stock one. hit the home button and set nova as the default.
Inscribed via LG v20 (iOS 11.1.0 Aplha)
Do you know if there is a fix for Bluetooth bug ?
I have the same model. You have to ensure nova has all the relevant permissions activated under settings. Storage, voice, etc etc. Nova works fine on my Mate 9. It initially kept crashing then I had a look at the settings and it's worked flawlessly since.

Huawei Launcher wants to rule the day? Other launchers crashing.

This is on an MHA-L09. I would prefer to use Nova or the Google launcher, anything but the Huawei stock launcher, but am having issues.
Nova Prime is crashing, or so it is reported by the Huawei Launcher that Ithen replaces it, with a warning that I should uninstall the Nova Launcher. I cannot see a pattern to when Nova crashes.
I have a seperate issue with the Google Launcher. This sometimes finds itself caught in a desktop refresh loop - the desktop will go black, the background image will be re-drawn, then the icons and widgets, then it will blank again. While this loop is happening, I can draw down the notification shade and the screen will stay on, roll up the shade and the refresh loop continues.
So,
a). has anyone else found the same and has solutions, or
b). are there any crash logs that I can look at to see why this might be happening, for either Nova or Google Launchers?
This has happened over a few versions. I have also done a factory reset and the prblem continues. After the reset I did do a re-install from a back-up, so I may have just reloaded what ever is causing the problem, hence my keeness to find logs to help see where the problem may be.
I used to have this problem also but tried Microsoft launcher and I'm hooked.
Ever since, I haven't gone back to huawei or nova
Mine is a L29, USA version, no issues with Nova Prime here.
This issue is definitely caused by using your backup. If I recall correctly the crashing was a nova bug after an android update and has since been fixed, but if you use a backup created before the fix it will cause the same issue again. Simply do a clean nova install and ditch your backup and it will work like a charm again.

Question Different launcher

Does someone know how to change or better replace the standard launcher of the iqoo7 PERMANENTLY? I tried so many times but it always turns back to the standard launcher. I want the Evie launcher. I can change it but when I go back to the homescreen the original is there again. Who has the answer?
Go to Settings - > Apps & Notifications - > Default Apps
Choose your desired launcher and restart your phone.
Thta should fix it.
I'm using Nova Launcher since almost 2 months now without any issue.
Hi. I only have apps and permissions and under permissions I can't designate an app for a launcher. Seems I have an Indian version of the iqoo 7.
I found it!!! But...... When I perform a restart it returns to the standard homescreen, . Only solution is I think, restart as less as possible. Thanks for the help.
i use nova launcher permanently & it doesn't switch back to the default quickstep launcher even if i restart the device, update the device or switch users.
You need to change an extra option. Go to Security and privacy> more security settings>change system launcher>allow change system launcher.
Every time you power on your phone it will remind you to change back to original, just press cancel.
(options name may be different cuz I'm on Spanish language)
May thanks Kone, it finally works after weeks of trying. Cheers
