I've published yesterday [23 nov. 2010] the first version of a scrollable news widget. This is my first attempt at android development.
I've tested the widget against Launcher Pro and ADW Launcher quickly and quite extensively with Zeam. It still needs some work (amonst other things: theming, feed validation, feed lookup, ...) but it is still usable -- meaning i use it.
Since version 1.4.0 GReader and news sharing are supported through Scrollable News Addons (paid app).
The addon has been unpublished as it won't be maintained anymore. Its features will in time be integrated into the main app.

Loaded it in the market but wasn't able to launch the widget or to use the configuration menu. It only shows a grey screen, although Menu button works in config mode..
I have a Desire rooted with miui rom 0.11.12
Doesn't work neither with Launcher Pro nor with the DEll Launcher..

Thanks for testing this widget. That's weird. I got a few comments in the market console that report a similar behaviour. However i'm not able to reproduce it. The grey background may indicate either that the widget feeds cannot be parsed or that scrollable widgets are not enabled.
I use android-rome-rss the fetch the feeds. Perhaps there is something to dig there? What feed(s) did you specify?

Just tested on N1,ADW...works fine.
Needs a rss search of course...
But very nice, even like the widget
But I already use "AtomaRSS" which got a wonderful customization option...

Indeed AtomaRss is very similar, feature-wise. I discovered it yesterday when i opened this thread because xda suggested a list of related messages. Since choice is always good, i will maintain and try and improve this widget.
Anyway, thanks for trying out the widget. Truth is i'm a bit lost here: i don't understand why it works like a charm for some people and doesn't even load for others (as is the case for berliner). I get the same mixed messages in the comments and ratings. I still don't know how i can pinpoint the actual issues.

hey mate, awesome app, would be good if it gave a list (or used default browser) to view 'full' article - in my case the in built one doesn't seem to work, but that might just be a problem at my end.
Also maybe the option to have a limited number of words in the content area, eg. instead of having the full story have like say justa set number defined in the settings, eg. 15, 25, 50, 0(all)?
Other then that, I love the look, can basically blend in with any theme

You should add the following code to your "receiver"-tags in the AndroidManifest.xml to allow ADW to automatically turn on the scrollable widget setting!

Thanks a lot for your feedback. I hope i can solve the no-loading issue thanks to boombuller's advice. However what worries me is that i tested it successfully with the free version of LauncherPro (pretty quickly though). Anyway i'll add that to the next version -- hopefully pretty soon.

The trick Boombuller provided works well with ADW (scrollable widgets get automatically activated), but not for LP. I have not yet published the new version though.

Yeah, using LPP. I put in a feed link, say http://www.androidcentral.com/feed and save - then - I get no feeds in the widget, just the title Latest News
My bad.... solved with the right link! Apologies. Great Widget!

I'm glad you worked things out. Feed/URL validation is indeed a critical feature that is missing. It is planned for a coming version. I begin to think that I should assign a higher priority to it because i'm wondering if invalid feed urls are not the cause of all the "grey widget issue" reports. Thanks for telling me this.

Initially i didn't plan to integrate Google Reader (i actually planned not to). But this could certainly be done and i'll consider it. However please note this is not on top of the todo list.

You should set up a paid version that does have google reader integration. I'd certainly purchase it and I'm sure many others as well.

I'm using LPP and can't get any feeds to show up. Even the default Reuters feed that came with the app fails to load any feeds so I don't think that it is a url issue. If there is a way for me to get you any usable info off of my phone please let me know.

Facebook permissions.
Fast:
Fast asks for a lot of permissions because there is no way to access to your data or write a new object without them. The good thing is that the app does what you want to do and there is no background process that spies or catch your information. There is no analytic or hidden services. At the first installation the app asks if you want to post a status with information about Fast, but you can choose if you want this or not.
This is the list of permissions that Fast can ask you (all are optional, if you need a feature you accept, otherwise you can decide to decline):
So, if you need a client that is triggered only by your actions, Fast it's your choice. The app doesn't have any control on your sms, contacts, phone data and status. It's not connected to any spying web services and there are no logs or personal information that are sent to me. I have no idea who is using Fast, what the user is doing. I just have Facebook data about active monthly user, geographical stats (only countries percentage), language and stats about how many api calls are made + api errors.
Facebook App:
The thing with official app is that you can't decide what permissions you can give to it, because it's official and it can do everything. If you loose your phone and you don't have the proper security level, everyone can do everything on your FB account with the Fb app.
Moreover, you don't know what kind of analytic, hidden services and hidden processes are on the app. You have to give so many android permissions that you literally give the app a full control of your phone.
I know that I am no one, and it's hard to trust, but Fast is here from almost 2 years and people trust my app. You can check the ratings and all the discussion here, I am always open to change the app, follow feedback and fix everything. My motto is to be transparent and always open to accept critics and new ideas.

Well,
login is trough a webview directly connected with Facebook (fb dialog), so no data is passed trough the app. The are no analytics such as google, flurry, socialize, etc etc. So the only data I receive is from the developer dashboard of Facebook.
So, all the connections are trough facebook open graph or the xmpp facebook server (using SASL, no md5 with user and password in clear )
Talking about privacy, I will introduce the possibility to use the privacy settings for the sharing of content and update status.

This is on my roadmap, but there are so many features and tweaks that i want to do!!!
Probably after April I will do it (I've put it on the 1.4 release)

+1 on the proper background service. I stopped using the official since most versions would always run no matter the settings which resulted being a battery killer. if you can configure it to cache to the background so it's not running consistently you may just be on the road to compete against friendcaster

There are a few different variations of this phone, they are mostly the same except they have different basebands. only solution i could think of was to backup/restore your current baseband during installation...I really like Aroma
This rom is getting pretty large so please post what translations you use, as i want to remove a few in the next update.

If the internal SD doesn't mount after changing the partitions size you should go into recovery, go to "mounts/storage" then you should plug your phone to your PC and press "mount USB storage" in the recovery, hen you are going to see that the PC tells you that one USB device needs to be formatted, you should proceed and format the internal SD in order to make it mount again. That was the solution I found.

Thought I'd update this page to share my work inspired by android custom roms
Before you start yelling at me, please read the first paragraph. This isn't a port, and it isn't based on Android source at all. Think of it as an android launcher but uses the PSP SDK's code. It will not and never allow you to run android apps.

Ok, this is pretty amazing. The default PSP UI is rather limited even with CFW. I played around a little in 2012 with writing PSP applications, but I can't even contemplate building a complete overhaul for the XMB. I have to replace my batteries for my PSPs this month, but once they come in I'll give this a try.

Yes it does, in the video it's being tested on PRO. It should run on a PS Vita's eCFW as well. Just remember even though its marked as stable doesn't mean it offers everything. I've named it stable because all the features I've provided work as they should. (Except for OTA's cause my server's down) so yeah, if there is something you can't click on, or just won't open its simply because it hasn't been properly implemented yet What's on the working list is definitely working though.

Sorry but as of now its not possible haha. You can use it on a PSvita (using its PSP emulator) but touchscreen won't work. The PS vita doesn't have any 'native' homebrews as of yet, and without an SDK its almost impossible

Help - Tips and Tricks
Open link in foreground:
If you have open links in background checked then you can open a link in a new tab and show it immediately by long pressing either "open in new tab" or "open in incognito tab". If you have open links in background unchecked you can do the reverse by long pressing either of those options.
Reopen closed tab:
Simply long press the new tab button (not in overflow menu) and it will be reopened.
Share link:
You can add this option to the long click popup dialog from Display Settings > Edit link dialog menu
Undelete or Unmove bookmark:
Long press back button (not hardware or onscreen back)
Open bookmark in new tab:
Long press the bookmark without moving it to show the menu
Incognito bookmark folder:
Long press plus button when viewing bookmarks to show hidden folder. You can delete it and it will still be kept, but if you rename it and delete it the folder will be replaced with an empty one.
Use Hardware Rendering (Advanced Settings)
This enables hardware rendering for webviews and should only be enabled if you're experiencing very bad performance. It might help, or it wont make a difference in which case leave it off. This will use additional resources and RAM - it might also use more battery so you shouldnt enable this if the webview is rendering and scrolling fine.
Maximum performance
The most efficient layout is the bottom drawer layout, it only has 2 immediate children: the webview and the the toolbar. The bottom drawer is only made visible once you click the tab counter or when you touch at the bottom of the screen, this lets the UI avoid any additional layout calculation for the drawer. Scrolling is noticeably smoother with the bottom drawer and it most likely uses less battery in comparison to the other layouts. You can also turn off the pull to refresh to reduce the touch logic albeit for an insignificant gain. Disabling the adblock and manually adding urls as needed drastically reduces the amount of RAM the adblocker takes up and I would definitely recommend this.

Storage Access - Downloading files, crash logs, and for the built-in file manager
Network Access - Have a guess
Read/Write Bookmarks and History - Speed needs to be able to import bookmarks from chrome
Draw Over Apps - Floating window for tablet mode so Speed can draw over apps

Good and Fast!
I'm using it on Xperia J with Seraphic Season 7 ROM! Only 4.7Mb, very fast, nice graphic and no lags (I get a lot of freeze on Chrome and it use 80Mb )

I'm glad it works for you! As you mentioned, chrome takes up a lot of ram on my galaxy s3, and I'm pretty sure most people face that problem with 1gb of ram, hence my reason for making this app.
I'm thinking of publishing this app on the Google play marketplace if I get enough good feedback.

Is development dead? I'm not finding it there anymore

I'm back and with a huge update.
New features :
- Material design
- Enhanced adblock and popup blocker: sites can still open new tabs in the background so long as they aren't ads
- New tab and navigation buttons in drawer
- Incognito tabs alongside normal tabs
- Performance tweaks
I'll be maintaining and adding features to this app whenever I have time, let me know what you guys think and if you've got any suggestions.

Swipe to access tabs and bookmarks are great
Somethign for you to improve : when changed to dark mode the browser is not totally "dark", just tabs and settings and bookmarks are dark. And the 3dots menu icon on the bar is invisible in dark mode
Btw this going to be my default browser

How do I get the border around the address bar dark like in the screenshots you posted?

As requested I've fixed the dark theme and the menu icon coloring in incognito mode. I updated the attached apk in first post.
I'm working on fixing the full screen mode and incognito mode too.

You're using the wrong apk. Use the apk attached in the first post. Hope you like it!

Hey guys when I download something does the browser have a download manager

Just encountered an issue here
If the browser is killed because of low memory, when i re-opened it, it crashed and then all bookmarks and tabs are erased

No i mean the previous process ( websites) that i opened before
You say fixed does it mean there are no crashes or just the bookmarks saving ?

Option added! Updated apk in first post. Also full screen is working (slightly buggy and some pages will not display properly).

I might release it on google play once its a bit more polished. Maybe in march?
Other changes:
- Contextual actionbar when highlighting text now overlays search bar
- find in page overlays toolbar as well
- drawers resize according to toolbar visibility in fullscreen mode
