WETA 5x TELEGRAM CHANNEL
This here is my personal setup and thought i'd share. Usually i test extensively before releasing to public, but if you do find something detrimental to the usage of your device that is either Force Closing or simply not working, let me know and i will in turn inform whether that is something i will tend to.
WETA is made for Music geeks like me, its main focus is stability and Audio. It is Based off latest firmware currently, and will always be using the most up to date firmware base.

Rom does not include...
This rom is debloated, meaning i have removed...
Google apps, there are google apps that are avaliable on the play store that have been removed.
How to install...
The usual thing here, I use TWRP so can only recommend that recovery, but i am sure you will be fine with others.
If coming from another Version Base, vendor.img may need to be flashed.. Do this BEFORE flashing the rom!
Make sure WETA zip file is in your internal SD card, and head to recovery and flash the rom zip file. Reboot.
ENCRYPTED DEVICES - If you have your data partition encrypted, and you have set a "Device pin" you are going to have issues with system UI unless you disable device pin in security settings before flashing rom.

Common Questions
How do i hide stock battery?
How do i mod NavBar?
- Both of these can be found in system ui tuner. You activate this by swiping down the notification pull down and pressing and holding the settings cog until it vibrates.
This turns on a new menu in Settings called systemui tuner, its all in there. If the cog doesnt vibrate. You may need to change your animation scales back to 1x within dev settings.
SystemUI keeps crashing
- Most likely this is a theme issue, especially after a dirty flash. Uninstall all themes and the apps. Flash vendor.img, wipe dalvik and cache, and rom again.
If its happening at boot time right when your device is asking for a password, then you need to flash stock rom and disable device boot security pin. Its a problem with encrypted devices and modified SystemUI.apks
Why is my battery life crap?
- Start by looking at your custom kernel, or by looking at user apps you use. Also simply constantly watching your battery is a battery drainer. The rom is seldom at fault with battery drain problems, and if it is to blame, then it is most probably and upstream google issue and not WETA.
Where is AdAway?
- If you flashed adblocker, then that is what you flashed, not AdAway. These are different things. Adblocker is a simple replacement of your stock hosts file that in turn blocks ads.
How do i get Stock clock back? How do i remove adblocker? How do i get stock NavBar height back? How do i Get A.R.I.S.E back?
- This is so simple and if you ask any of these types of questions... then i slappa yo face..
Just dirty flash the rom again. Select what you want
What is WETA Audio?
WETA Audio is an alternative to flashing with A.R.I.S.E. It replaces A.R.I.S.E with my own setup consisting of V4A (2.5.0.5 or 2.3.4.0, optional Dolby Atmos and drivers and effects from Sony, HTC and ALSA drivers. Its a more simplistic approach to what A.R.I.S.E offers which some people were requesting. Its my go to setup now also.
mentalmuso, can you add advanced reboot menu to power button? can you add volume skip track functionality?
- Short answer, No. This rom is built from stock prebuilt google images and is the reason why its mostly so stable. mods like this require building the rom from source code, which is something im not prepare to dive into at this stage. It takes too much time out of my life and requires a bigger SSD hard drive than i have at this time. Maybe ill have interest in this in the future, if i lose my job or something.
mentalmuso can you add CM visualizer to navbar?
- This mod requires the system to have signature check verification to be disabled. Although its a cool mod, thats one security risk i wont implement.
Why is there no SuperSU app, or Why is there no superuser app?
- The root apps get installed to the /data partition at installation. This means sometimes there is a conflict as you may have left over data from a previous installation. This can be remedied by simply finding the app you need on the play store and installing it. No big deal. The Root binaries would have been installed properly.
Will CMTE be coming to this rom? What about OMS support
CMTE and OMS require a rom to be built from source so commits can be added. I'm not going to build from source.

Nice to see you here

Cool! Si this means I could start to play Pokémon Go again on a custom roms without having to deal with unroot and installation of suhide....
I'm a music fan so it's sure I give this rom a try later today!
Thanks for the Nice rom.
Question, can I install EXkernel without messing with the root and suhide setup?

Does it have full layers support with OMS commits or it's made from stock debloated rom? Sorry if you find my question stupid

I'm pretty sure you'll be OK flashing a custom kernel. I can't be 100% sure that suhide will work though. That makes me realize I should put an option not to flash stock kernel..

Layer works, and so does Substratum, but like you assumed it's without Oms support. This is based around stock Google images.

Good to see another N build. Keep up the good job sir.

Yeah, for me EX 3.06 works just fine, not sure about SUhide, still too lazy to ensure how to use it

what is the difference between oms support and no oms support ?

I have never, not once, had to run suhide. Snapchat has root detection and I've never failed to login on any custom rom, either for the 5x or my Samsung Relay (Galaxy S3.) Pokemon Go always worked for me, and I usually run Mock Mock Locations and a GPS spoofer. Though, no Xposed on Nougat, yet.

So does this currently not have battery, clock, or navbar customizations? If it does, I'll jump on this. Sounds like everything I want.

It doesn't at the moment(check OP), but still worth it as is right now! Try it out man.

Oh man. I just jumped from Nitrogen OS (Hey, i'm an adventurer), and damn, the moment I plugged in my Earpiece, the Bass Boost I've set kicked in. Best implementation ever!
Looking forward to the upcoming features!

Good to hear, which audio mod did you choose in aroma?

@Mentalmuso, first, thanked you in the OP for providing this ROM to us. Though I have never used this ROM, yet being an audio buff, I longed for the ROM for bullhead, when I saw this in 6P thread. Now that it has arrived for 5x, and that too with Android N, I think I am going to stay with this for long. Downloading, will flash today.
BTW the OP link to TWRP is for angler and not for bullhead. Doesn't matter much, but even then please change.
Regards

same as cm10.1, which is stable:good:
I must say, with all the tweaks and customizations that seem specific for our hardware, or at least performed with our device in mind, I'm definitely interested in giving this ROM a shot as new DD to replace SilverL's unofficial 4.2.2 I've been using since July.
Did a test install and everything seemed to be working real good. Not a huge fan of the terminal-ly looking font (from sense I guess) but I'm sure that's probably configurable somewhere that I haven't bothered to look yet, or in one of the 2 included super customizers.
I'll post up my thoughts if I do go DD with this but in the meantime, I'd love to hear opinions from anyone else that's installed and used so far. Might be my new fav 4.2.2 rom until a fully usable 4.3 (in my head at least) comes out.
Before switching from emmanuels 4.3 version to this i have to ask:
- is the keyboard popup lag fixed when using the hw keyboard?
- if you will update this anytimes...are you considering implementing halos? (Sorry if i may sound demanding...i am not...just curious )
- thanks for the build and all the hard work in advance

Maybe it was the fact I didn't do a full absolute clean slate wipe before flashing (way too busy to reinstall all my apps and settings manually and I don't trust auto-backup apps) but there was an issue with Media closing on its own when I tried opening camera, and took an act of congress to get it to let me out of the f/c loop. I'll do a full wipe if and when I get time because this looks interesting to me.
You want feedback... will you take feature requests and suggested improvements? I offer them with respect, of course, but you might not like my opinion is all

I have been watching for like a week waiting for this to come to some sort of climactic crash, however, I am so curious I must flash this after trying a few other builds of yours some that worked, some not so much. Dont feel bad sir as with all things there has to be trial and error or nothing would ever be mastered. So I hope this works out for ya because it was looking real promising there for a moment! Thanks for the effort no matter the outcome.

Alright, its early stage right now so not too many changes, soon as I find the data partition for the updater-script everything will be on piont:good:
So my HTC Inspire didn't blow up, good. This DID boot up, this DID connect to Wi-Fi. I poked around a bit and unless Google is down the play store is getting errors when I try to download an app at which point my phone froze and it rebooted itself and gets some android.media.process has stopped errors. So having said all that and knowing where your at. Dude your going in the right direction. Im going to fiddle fart with this cause I can and will look forward to your updates. Good Luck!

BTW, Anyone know how to add data partition in the updater-script? I don't know the partition name, mainly why I haven't made aroma yet.

Ok, so I have seen users wanting to utilize the HK/BS/JBL Audio Switcher Mod, as well as Viper4Android.
I completely understand why, as they both have their advantages and together they can produce some great audio.
So to help with compatibility issues, I have redone a Viper4Android Aroma Installer, that I had put together previously.
In the V4A installer, I have included options for compatibility with the Mods in our HK/BS/JBL audio mod posted in this thread.
Viper 4 Android
Aroma Installer for HTC devices
UI Options:
- Default UI
- Dark Material UI
- Lite Material UI
Compatibility Options:
- For use with Harman Kardon
- For use with Boomsound
- For use with JBL Audio
______________________________
DOWNLOAD:
ViPER4Android_FX_v2.4.0.1_Aroma-Installer_santod040
To install this V4A Aroma Installer:
1) - First you should flash your HK/BS/JBL option of choice, from the installer in the HK/BS/JBL Switcher OP.
2) - Then flash the V4A Aroma installer, which I've linked below and choose your current Audio choice in aroma during the install. (HK/BS/JBL)
This will give you optimal audio configurations, for use together with the http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one-m8/development/mod-audio-hk-bs-aroma-switcher-4-1-0-t3035354.
Without having to delete, remove, or compromise any of the audio libraries that should go along with your existing audio.
Some of the other solutions out there, delete important audio configs, or chop them up in ways which are not in line with the stock HTC audio configurations.
This will give you the best of both worlds, when used along with the Switcher in the OP.

FAQ

Does this have Verizon Visual Voicemail?
Yes, as of v4.0.
Is there an H/K Audio Mod for this?
Yes, see my HK/BS/JBL Switcher thread for latest version:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=58962059
Is there a custom kernel available for this?
None that I would suggest, until the Sense Marshmallow source code is made available.
Current Marshmallow kernels are utilizing the GPE source code.
While this works, it has the potential for unknown issues which I'd rather not deal with.
NICE!!! Can't wait

EARLY CHRISTMAS PRESENT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Santod, Thank you for all your hard work!!!
Thank you, Santod!
Awesome, Santod! Can't wait to play with it.
No problem guys. Hope you enjoy it! :good:
My free time has been extremely limited as of lately, since I've been working 60+ hours a week.
So I just haven't had much time to get these things ready for public consumption, as much as I used to. (have pretty much just made personal builds when I could)
I figured the m8vzw crowd was overdue for a treat though, so I went ahead and knocked this out last night and I am off work today, so I decided to upload it.
Unfortunately, the host server is dragging its' feet though and the upload is taking much longer then I anticipated when I started this thread.
So, hang in there, it's on the way and shouldn't be too much longer now.
It's around 70% complete at the moment...
Been missing your work as of late so this is definitely appreciated!
This is super rad. Its a good feeling knowing this phone has folk like you. Stoked to try this out. Those pricks that had you all sour in the other thread don't speak for the rest of us, keep up the good work my good bro. Thanks
Will be trying this! For sure! Thank you for your hard work

No. Works fine for me.
Direct link to the thread is HERE
Just be sure to grab the right one: xposed-v78-sdk23-arm.zip
Just trying to avoid the repeated question as to where to find it, does it work, which zip do I need, etc,..so I posted a direct link to the file needed.
Works fine on my PC browser anyhow.
The other zip I posted is the Xposed apk and Xtended apk in a single flashable zip.
I flashed the rom, the xposed framework, and the xtended/xposed zip before first boot, to make sure it worked that way.
Saves from going through having all apps optimize on first boot and then again after applying Xposed, if it's all done at the same time.

Q&A
Q: What's the easiest way to root my Moto E 2nd Gen from TextNow, to install a custom recovery, ROM, etc...?
A: Rooting the Moto E (2nd Gen) from TextNow, on Android 5.1.x, for flashing zips, a custom recovery or ROM is simple, just follow the 3 steps below.
Disclaimer: I'm not responsible for any damage your phone receives from use of any modification found on this thread you choose to use.
How to root the Moto E
1. Make sure your TextNow Moto E (2nd Gen) is running a stock ROM on Android 5.1.x
2. Download Kingroot
3. Install and run Kingroot to root your Moto E (2nd Gen) from TextNow.
After following the rooting steps above you should reboot your phone.
Note: You should never try to root a encrypted Android device. First disable encryption then apply root.
Q: What's the easiest way to install a custom recovery?
A: Download Flashify and then download TWRP 3.0.1-r2 and install using Flashify right from your rooted phone.
Thanks for the addition to our little Surnia community! very much looking forward to watching your progress with this ROM.

I have an xt1526 as well on straight talk, and i was wondering if whatever modifications you made to the apns or network would allow the LTE to work with straight talk?

If striaght talk works on the sprint network as a third party service, I see why not. Just make sure you follow step two in the installation process, in case you need to restore your current setup.
Can you be more specific on the mods and tweaks you did?
Also, Have you planned on using some type of OTA service or something to do OTA for users?

Sure. I don't have a computer at the moment, when I do I'll look into it.
For now, have a look in the init.d folder (testing), mixer_profile.xml, media_profile.xml, build.prop (Testing) for more detailed changes.
FYI, RhinoNIZED_R4 coming later today with some major kenerl level improvements and Android changes.
I would like to test, if needed I have resources to build flash able zips. Let me know.
OTA would be nice.
Tested on Boost variant of the xt 1526 - does NOT work. Activation will be lost if you flash this ROM.

I'll see what I can do for all network variants, with your setup.
FYI, everyone this is for TextNow Moto E 2nd Gen owners ONLY. Download link will be down, while I fix a Google Gapps licensing issue. Should be back up later today.
I'd love to test but I must be having terrible luck because both times I've checked yesterday and today the link is gone...

Is there a way you could possibly implent some option to where the sprint network will work on straight talk (my xt1526 is on straight talk, but it uses sprint towers, but the correct apn for LTE remains yet to be found). I would really appreciate it! I have been trying very hard to get working LTE On the cm roms. If it helps the network identifier that shows up in the stock rom (LTE Works there), is something called Chameleon.

2.0
Based off N960USQS1ARH6 PDA, September security patches
This is a base firmware update, i have decided to be bold and try basing off the usa 960U firmware as it has better security and overall updates.
*** You will need to wipe data for this update! or it will be crash city.
*** Ive been testing for 36 hours now and its as stable as N9600 firmware for me.
2.1
Added Carrier CSC/OMC/ODM to WETAmod app
How to use - You need to start by selecting an ODM file system to flash, this will give you the base to work from.
There are 4 USA options, TMobile, Verizon, Sprint and ATT. If you select one of these and apply, WETAmod will automatically
start a download of the filesystem zip, that once download is completed will bump you into twrp and flash for you. After rebooting,
you will have your stock ODM selection in place.
There is also a check box to add basic mods, such as call recording etc. This should be selected after you have booted once with your
chosen ODM selection.
3.0
New RJ6 base
Oct security patches
3.1
WETA Kernel 2.1 - updated to RJ6 source, wireguard and ioschedulers added
Fixed V4A installer for the 2.6.x version
Added Bixby disabler switch - disables all bixby services
Added secure storage fix for bluetooth issues
Rom now detects which ODM you are using and installs carrier apps if needed. This means you shouldn't have to flash ODM after a ROM flash.
3.2
This update really was the culmination of attempts to fix the lockscreen pin and pattern issues. Basically the pattern or pin would fail and a reboot would be needed for it to succeed again.

Adjusted status bar corner padding
Added Samsung debloating/disabling
Added Samsung Audio/Soundalive/dolby disable

- Im not sure what this update is, but RL3 is still dec sec patch, im thinking there may be a hot fix in there or something or it may just be preparing devices for PIE ota's.

Updated Kernel to RL1 source
Added GRX Circle battery mod to status and nav bars

12.0
WETA is now a Magisk Rom, details on installation in post #2
Based on SH7 firmware, you must be in this firmware for this Magisk Module ROM to work.
Do not flash Gapps with this ROM!
Because this is based off of stock Samsung, gapps are included.
BACKUP EFS!!! this rom will not do this for you. I myself have bricked an s8+ that didn't have a backup...
Backup DATA!!! just in case.
Wipe Data if you are coming from another rom or version base if you have crashes or other issues before reporting.
Format SDCard if coming from stock encrypted

ROM Flashing instructions
WETA is now a Magisk Rom. This means you are responsible for updating your firmware to match the Magisk ROMs firmware base.
This Magisk ROM wil ALWAYS be based off TGY firmware. So if you stick with TGY you will be golden.
CSC/ODM is an ongoing work in progress, see telegram thread for more response and info.
Basic install method
1. Install TWRP - TWRP thread
2. In TWRP Flash the kernel that matches your firmware. Formatting data is needed on stock firmware. Also flash an encryption disabler, it is required. - encryption disabler thread
3. Boot into rooted system, first boot will hang on cache building, there is no way around this, hard reboot is needed after about 3min of waiting. Some people report it will boot fully after 10min of waiting. Setup magisk, you will need to download magisk manager and let it install the magisk environment. Once done and rebooted, move to next step.
4. Flash WETA Rom module, again, the module firmware base needs to match the firmware on your device.. I recommend you do this in Magisk Manager.

How do I update my firmware base?
Downloading and flashing the firmware with Odin is the recommended way, you can get fast downloads using Frija, a Windows app that is on XDA. This will take you back to un-rooted stock. I may make a flashable zip for system/vendor/kernel for each update, but don't bank on it. You will need to update the bootloader with Odin regardless.
WETA will always be based off TGY Firmware.
------------------------------------------------------------->
Old deprecated method...
Install TWRP by @klabit87
TWRP + Rom installation from STOCK setup:
1. Switch on OEM unlock in dev settings, bootloader unlock process requires wiping of data.
2. Using Odin, flash TWRP.tar file through the AP tab, making sure to reboot into recovery straight away, dont boot ito system!
3. Format Data. wipe/format_data/yes
4. Reboot recovery/twrp
5. Using an OTG or Micro sd, copy Encryption_Disabler + WETA_Kernel or WETA_Rom to your OTG or Micro sd device.
6. Using your storage device, flash Encryption_disabler, then flash WETA_Kernel or WETA_Rom (if you want simply rooted stock, just flash WETA_Kernel.)
7. Boot up, be patient, boot times may vary.
TWRP.tar - See TWRP thread for download
WETA_Kernel - This kernel is pre patched with Magisk. Simply find and install magisk manager to utilize root. For CSE1 Pie roms only. ( may work on other Pie roms but not guaranteed )
WETA_Rom - Includes WETA_Kernel with Magisk.

Excellent job, thanks for all your hard work. I love seeing new N9600 projects! Does your ROM also include root?
Also, do you have a PayPal link where we can support your development on this device?

Don't have the exynos device this time around. Surely it's portable though being treble and all. Early days.

Yeah I'm running a gsi rom now only stable rom we have lol
There are some bugs with gear and kernel that are needed.
One or. 2 roms got that bug figured out lol.
No kernel meaning the spay for gear will detect root even if you hide it from magisk.
Hope you bring your rom to us too lol.

Yeah I flashed pixel experience (pie) and lineage. It's awesome that it's so easy now. I love Google for pushing treble.
Interesting about the kernel. I just assumed the F had everything worked out. You also mean the gear watch? Or gear cameras etc? I've got a gear 360 I better test that it works.

The gear watch.
There's a bug where the pairing would get stuck pairing underway forever.
It is still an issue for most roms here lol.
Some devs even got mad and will drop support for it completely due to users like me asking about it lol.
I did try to sold it myself but couldn't.

He he hope you don't get mad
You'd get comments like that lol
It's that stupid bug.
Anyway, they should know you don't have the gear watch
So they can stop asking.

I have a better idea actually, you could have a great learning curve ahead of you by trying to track down what you think is broken, maybe try a few things to see if you can fix it yourself.
I can't help you without the device or at least logs of crashes. Any dev will tell you the same thing.
[emoji450]--->
I did something really stupid. I got up early this morning and saw your thread but unfortunatley my excitemenyt about a new rom for the Note 9 overpowered my common sense and I didn't realize this was not for the N950F - so I flashed it - bad mistake - now I lost my IMEI and I don't know how to get it back.
I know what my IMEI numnber is - but I don't have a backup per se. I just got it from my GOOGLE Account where it lists my devices.
Any help yoiu can offer to help me restore my IMEI is greatly appreciated.
Oh shoot here we go :highfive:

Converted to TWRP flashable zip
Added WETAmod mod control app
Includes Magisk 17.2 root by default on stock kernel
*** This is just a very basic start, just so i can get my groove with my new setup. I'll be adding things periodically over the next week.. probably daily updates. Better layout and theming of the WETAmod app will eventuate also.

These additions are what I was waiting for! Not that there was anything wrong with the first one! Thank you so much!
