What plays major role in playing hd videos on smartphones. Is it the cpu , the gpu or the screen resolution. On a desktop pc the gpu plays a vital role in playing hd videos. But i dont know if its the same on smartphones. Playing hd videos on my lg E610 Is very terrible even using mx player. The phone is equiped with an 800Mhz cpu and an adreno 200 gpu all paired with 512mb ram. I dont know the screen resolution. So please what play the major role in playing hd videos on smartphones. Is it gpu, cpu or the screen resolution .

It's same with the Smartphones.
Probably you might be playing in SW decoder.
If your chipset supports hardware acceleration for the particular codec, It can be played with HW & HW+ (if supported). Both will be smooth. If your device don't have native decoders then it will try SW. In SW everything is done CPU. So, it may lag when CPU speed is not enough to decode.
Most of the modern devices can play 1080p video smoothly in HW & HW+.

So please in this situation of a smartphone being able to play 1080p videos what plays the vital role in hardware decoding.

Hardware decoding means it use graphic card. Adreno 200 can't decode 1080p video and your cpu clock rate is really low for decoding high quality videos.
Thank you so much . Well yiu right adreno 200 is a ****y gpu.

Is there a player that can play hd 1080p or 720p on fit? I ask because I installed Mobo Video Player and realised that it plays video via processor, and not via GPU. Is there some player that plays video via GPU?
Nope. Fit has an adreno 200 gpu which basically sucks.

dice player. but it says not compatible with our device
convert them to lower resolution on your pc
Ok, thanks for replays..

this line just made my day l0l
The title says it all, I saw on Motorola Developer site that it's able, but when I try running one, it doesn't work! Is it a bug, or only me?

You're gonna have to be a little more specific when you say 1080p playback...
Download tube mate, download a 1080p video, try running on your device

The point is 1080p is very vague. What video format, container, etc?
Historically, the xoom has always had issues playing high profile h264 content. The container doesn't really matter. Using known software decoders provides low framerate playback at best. Its likely we'll have to wait for next gen hardware to get some decent high profile playback.
Hi there,
What processor should I get if I want my tablet to play most of Full HD movies out there, in any codecs? How come a FHD video file can be played flawlessly on a PC with dualcore processor, but cant on a tablet?
Thanx

I'm guessing because of screen resolution. What tablet do you own?

Hi,
Sorry for not being clear, I am going to purchase my 1st tablet, so I need to ask this question
I will likely purchase a tablet with high res screen (approximately FHD).

I can play 1080p 3D video fine on my mk802 which has a single core arm cpu running at 912 mhz using ice cream sandwich.
Maybe better option would be to give an idea of how much you can spend and what sort of uses you want from a tablet (eg gaming) and then people could recommend the best featured tablets that suit your budget?

Hi,
Thank for your suggestion. My main usage is as follows:
Watch 1080p movie in various formats and codec, source is shared via network driver (DLNA or streaming using VLC), output to TV.
A good audio output and screen with 200+ pixel density
Checking email, facebook, read news etc.,
Video Chatting with my family.
Game and other apps (no need for hardware-killer games)
Price as low as possible, of course
Hi, i was planning to buy the Xperia j but i was wondering if it can play 720p videos using MX player etc?? Thanks.
Xperia Miro really lags while playing 720p.
As of compability it opens even 1080p MKV (But of course you can not watch anything because of lag).
J has only 200Mhz better processor
It will be lag of course
Based on my test, it only support main profile for hardware decoding up to 480P.
*My device is Miro
80% it won't lag but 2 to 4 seconds it lags here and there !:/

And another issue.
Whitch kind of videos is best for the J??
Hd? Mp4 HD? Mp4 720p?
Becase the firmware video is awersome, but i cant find the same format for this quality.

well you can enhance the quality (not resolution). if you are interested see my thread here. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2121645
Just share my experience although mine is Xperia Miro.
The device is capable to hardware decode PSP MP4 video(480P), H264 Main Profile @3.0.
720P videos that required software decoding are varies from case to case, it maybe smooth or lag if the video bitrate is high.

If by firmware video you mean the 'Xperia HD Landscapes' video, it was encoded at 854x480 resolution in baseline profile with a good bitrate.
In my opinion, the best settings are the same used in the landscape video.
Main profile skips frames at a high bitrate. So don't use the main profile.
And regarding HD videos, J relies on software decoding which in truth is not enough. So even if you try HD videos, go for a low bitrate.
