Network Issue with G930T on Echoe Rom with MetroPCS carrier - General Questions and Answers

Hello All,
Hopefully you might be able to help me. I flashed Echoed_Rom_G930_Multi-Carrier on my unlocked T-Mobile galaxy S7, currently on the MetroPCS network. Everything looks great, except for the fact that I have no cellular coverage: phone, sms, data, anything. Whoops.
My carrier is MetroPCS but seeing as they use the T-Mobile network I imagine this should work, and I was careful to select the T-Mobile option as I was installing the rom. I also made sure to double check that my APN is configured properly, but that doesn't seem to be affecting this issue at all. :T
Next I went in and tried to search manually for networks. I could see T-Mobile along with several other carriers in my area, but when I tried to select T-Mobile it hung for several minutes and wouldn't acquire a connection to the network.
Do I need to do something within the rom to fix this? Will I need to just flash back to stock and wait for a later update of the rom to patch this activation issue? My expertise lies more in rooting than in troubleshooting roms, so any help would be appreciated. Let me know if there are any screenshots or additional information that I can provide that might help troubleshoot this issue if at all possible.
Thanks.

[Q] How do I add APNs on Verizon Galaxy S3 running 4.1.1?

I have a Verizon Galaxy S3 (SCH-I535) running Android 4.1.1. I was told by Verizon prior to moving to England that, with this version of Android which unlocked the "world phone" capabilities (GSM), that I would be able to use my phone abroad with a new sim on a local network.
Fast forward a few weeks, and I am in England with an Orange sim in my phone. I have no problems with voice, but I cannot access any data services (I have no trouble receiving texts, but cannot send them - I think this is a problem with the sim though). After searching around the internet for a while, it seems that the solution to my problem would be to add the Orange APN settings to my phone.
HOWEVER, Verizon's version of 4.1.1 does not allow you to edit APN settings! When you go to the APN menu, there is nothing displayed and the only settings option is to Reset to Default.
The closest thing I've found to a solution is here, but it's a bit out of date as the method isn't for 4.1.1. I'm a bit wary of rooting my phone and installing a rom, as I've never done anything like that before.
Does anyone have any experience with this sort of thing that might be able to offer a solution? I would be willing to root my phone if necessary, but I'd need to be directed to a pretty explicit noob guide for doing that :silly:
Thanks!
Getting root is easy with the toolkit linked. Should you have any questions you can read the thread or search galaxy s3 toolkit on YouTube. Just keep in mind some videos are outdated and that you have a Verizon cdma galaxy S3 running 4.1.1.

Search this same thread and the APN fixes are here. There is also an APN fix in Note 2 forum that should work. Once you change APN should be good to go with Orange. Say hi to my Uncle in Birmingham. He on Orange also. Cheers.
What ended up being your solution?
I'm going to Italy tomorrow with a Verizon S3 and APN settings are locked. The phone is rooted and I would love to be able to use a local SIM on data!
Thanks in advance.

No solution yet. I'm going to look at the link above when I can get some time to sit down and focus on it. Hopefully it fixes it.
BTW, although it's billed as a CDMA phone, it is able to operate on GSM as well. That's the whole "world phone" thing that Verizon has been talking about.

I understand it's a world phone, but I wanted to drop that in because I wasn't sure if the Toolkit states "CDMA" under the device selection screen. I know the Galaxy Nexus or Razr Toolkit specifically stated CDMA. I just didn't want you to accidentally pick the wrong one. After looking at screen shots of the Toolkit you shouldn't have a problem it doesn't mention CDMA only Verizon is stated.
Unable to add APN.

Hey there,
Sorry for going there, but I have not been able to find a fix for adding in the APN on a Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III. I have it on Cincinnati Bell at the moment, and have it rooted. I have voice and text, but not data. I have used the APN Manager Pro to see the APN that I need to use, but for some reason it will not use it or be able to edit it? Any thoughts?

Yes.
Get titanium backup pro and make apn mgr pro a system app.
You should be good after that.
This is confirmed working on Vodafone Italy and ill post results from China and hk in about a month
And please spread the word on this.
Spiting Verizon is my new favorite hobby.
I have a very similar problem. I have a Samsung S3, not rooted, but unlocked from Verizon. I have been in Kandahar for a month or so. My SGS3 with a local provider will make and receive calls great when coverage is there. My problem is, I can only seem to text local here not back to the US, or get email and no Google Talk. I went to the shop where I got my card here, they told me that Verizon needed to unlock my phone. I know it is unlocked but I made the call home, Verizon told me what I already knew. I went back into the store, once again, next they said Verizon needed to unlock my APN? I called again, finally I got a response from Verizon saying that Samsung needs to release the patch so Verizon can unlock it. If anyone knows of such a APN patch I would greatly appreciate it. My lap top screen got cracked during a patrol so doing all of this and email is quite the B!tch! I have always had success with this forum and hope it will continue. Once I send my lap top back home to be warrantied, I will not have any way of getting the usual business done for at least a month. I'm trying to hold off on the lap top until I can get my phone fully functional. I do not have internet connection on my phone, just my computer, I guess that is the APN, that is still locked. I could do all of this if I had WiFi, but it is not allowed here by the company that provides internet. They do have WiFi in some areas, but it is always bogged down with everyone else trying to use it. Also, I am not too sure if I want to attempt to do a root, the internet service here is very slow. Thanks for your help. Please remember, I am atleast 8 1/2 hours ahead of you, so response time will be delayed.

FINALLY , AT&T LG Vigor D725 Stock KitKat 4.4.2 KDZ Firmware File

Hi everyone, I've been a longtime lurker here on XDA for anything and everything I've needed for my devices, but in the six-or-so years I've been on here, I've never had anything to contribute on my own for the community. Today, however, I'm stoked to say that for the small number of people that haven't given up on the LG G3 Vigor, I FINALLY was able to obtain a stock firmware 4.4.2 file in .KDZ format direct from LG.
I, like many others on here and other G3 communities, have struggled for the past few months in trying to keep this device stable, but apparently the Vigor (more so the D725 AT&T variant, since it seems the Sprint LS885 has a little more support, but still basically next to nothing at all for both) is a redheaded stepchild or something since no one I've seen on here has been able to offer anything other an a root method for it, however I can't help but think that was just dumb luck since that root method has been proven to work on to work on ALL the G3 variants. Anyway, after almost giving up on this device after six months of not being able to find a stock firmware ROM file for it, let alone any custom ROM, I tried calling LG as a last resort with not much hope. Lucky for me though, I got a super nice rep by the name of Rachel, who immediately understood what I was asking and e-mailed me a link to the only stock firmware file they have for it - a D725PR 4.4.2 firmware file in .KDZ format.
You may notice that the model number - D725PR - isn't either of the AT&T or Sprint models. It's actually for the LG G3 Beat that was released for Puerto Rico, but it is basically identical to the D725 and LS885 minus the carrier APN settings, and of course no AT&T or Sprint bloatware. Rachel was so confident that this file was what I needed, that she wanted me to flash it while on the phone with her, and if it didn't work and I ended up with a brick, she'd open a warranty ticket to replace it free of charge since my Vigor is still under warranty (as are almost all others I think, since the Vigor was released late 2014.) I used the LG Flash Tool under Windows 10 while on the phone with the rep the whole time, and sure enough, about six minutes and two reboots later, the device booted right up to the LG setup welcome screen. I was told that since the KDZ is technically for the Puerto Rico variant, I'd likely have to manually input AT&T's APN settings for data, but it configured itself and AT&T's APN profile in the mobile network/tethering menu was already in there. Now, my device is unlocked, so I don't know if maybe that's why it configured itself on its own, but if you flash this file to factory restore or downgrade, or remove root and find you don't have your carrier's APN profile in there, just do a Google search for the settings, and you should get your data back.
Sorry this post ended up being a novel, but I'm very happy that I finally managed to score this stock firmware file after LITERALLY six months of it sitting in a drawer, pulling it out every so often in hopes that somewhere online, someone posted the file to finally get everyone flashed back to stock, but nope. I don't see why this wouldn't work for anyone else with an AT&T or Sprint Vigor, but obviously I must say I can't be held responsible if, for whatever reason, something bad happens. I hope this was able to help at least SOMEONE other than myself, because like I said, I've been using this forum for the past six-or-so years to keep up with development and learn to root whatever new device I got, but never contributed myself. This community deserves it, because no one on here has to do what they do, yet they choose to do it all for free, as a public service or something, in order to help others have a better experience with their devices. And for that, I myself am forever grateful. I hope this helps - good luck!

Not meaning to beat a dead horse as I know this thread hasn't seen activity in several months but I wanted to let others know that I took a chance with my D725 running the factory 4.4.2 firmware from AT&T and installed the firmware in the OP and voila, it works without any issues that I've noted so far aside from a particular menu option not being available (the Phone info page when using *#*#4636#*#*). Everything else so far has worked with one additional bonus:
If you attempt to use the factory D725 firmware with T-Mobile's network or any MVNO that uses their network you will not get LTE service - it just won't happen. It frustrated me when I discovered this little aspect because AT&T's firmware only supports LTE bands 1/3/7 for "roaming bands" aka anything that's not AT&T - T-Mobile uses bands 2 and 4 which AT&T also uses but it appears that if you put a non-AT&T SIM in this device (the D725 running the factory firmware) it will not allow connections using those bands 2 and 4.
You also can't even choose LTE using the Phone info page - the option to choose a preferred network type is removed in that firmware (to the best of my knowledge it's not there - I only have my D725 as a point of reference so I can't speak for anyone else and again this is strictly for the 4.4.2 firmware, I won't touch the Lollipop update anytime soon).
However, I took a chance and installed the Puerto Rican firmware just now and voila, with the addition of the T-Mobile LTE APN info (fast.t-mobile.com) and changed the network type under Mobile networks (an option that does not exist in the factory AT&T firmware there either) I've got LTE AWS service now.
I made a post in the "main" G3 Vigor thread with screenshots if anyone is interested:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=65081251&postcount=300
I'm already committed to selling this Vigor but I just wanted other D725 owners out there (probably not a whole hell of a lot of us it seems based on hardly any posting activity about our device) that yes, if you're missing out on T-Mobile LTE service with your presumably unlocked LG G3 Vigor by using the factory AT&T 4.4.2 firmware that there's hope and it comes from the Puerto Rican bloatware-free firmware + adding the fast.t-mobile.com APN information.
Have fun, always...

How to safely root after going to D725PR
After following the steps in this post to install the D725PR firmware successfully, I am wondering how to safely root this device.
Background
Six months ago I used the above method successfully to resolve a problem I had with my LG G3 Vigor D725 which I purchased unlocked on eBay. I had been and continue to be able to use the phone network here in the Fiji islands where I live, with either of the two main providers here, Vodafone and Digicel, depending on which company's SIM card I have installed. My problem was that I was unable to enable the wifi hotspot feature in the phone (with either provider) so I could connect my laptop to the internet via the phone. Upon pressing "Enable" (of wifi hotspot) in the phone, it would disappear for 15 secs then come back with an error saying it could not connect with the network due to a network fault. I took it to the best engineers at the mobile phone companies here and they tried everything they could and in the end advised me the problem was in my phone, not with their networks. So I flashed the phone with this Puerto Rican version of the firmware and voila, I have been able to use the wifi hotspot feature ever since. So a sincere thank you for making this available and as this was my first and only phone flash experience and I could never have done it without all the detailed instructions, the link to the flash tool etc. I still have one problem though, I would like to be able to root the phone but I am unsure how to do that without bricking it or undoing the progress I have made. "Root Checker" tells me "Sorry! Root access is not properly installed on this device". Thank you in advance.

Hello, new here! Need help

I'm new here, and I have a problem with my HTC One E8. I know the category is wrong, but I couldn't care to find my exact model and carrier because of insane amount of categories. Forgive me.
I flashed a GPE ROM. All good but I can't get LTE to work. It just simply doesn't work for some reason, it will just put a little R above the service bar. I tried to fixed it by going in the cellular networks settings but no luck. When I tap on the carrier settings the process crashes. While I went through the process of flashing a ROM, I had a friend help me, and he said that it might be for Verizon. I have Sprint. The best I can get is 3G. I even took the time to completely reflash the ROM a second time trying to see if there's any setting during the actual ROM installation process to select my carrier. And there was, and there were a few options. I chose the one for Sprint and Verizon. There was a sperate Sprint one. I still had no luck with getting LTE to work. Any ideas on how to get it working?
Thanks in advance for anybody's help.

Credo Mobile ROMs

Hey guys, I've been searching for a new ROM for a while now, I was running pure nexus on 6.0.1 but obviously that's been updated and that's where I ran into my issue. Pure nexus seemed to work fine for me and all was well but, slowly as the ROM became outdated and everything moved onto 7.0 my battery life and quality seemed to get worse and worse. Eventually my phone was randomly turning off at 60-70% battery. So, I figured it was time for a new ROM however, when I installed the Nougat version of pure nexus I was unable to receive cell service and data. Now I'm assuming this is due to the fact that my phone is tied to Credo Mobile, for a carrier and they have some funky proprietary firmware they put on their phones. So my question is, does anybody that is on Credo know of any ROMs that might work on our phones, and/or does anybody know what could possibly be going wrong? I've tried quite a bit of troubleshooting, flashing the stock bootloader and radios, editing my APNs to match the ones I could find online for Credo, I've tried multiple different ROMs including OctOS, Carbon, Zephyr, CM, and many more, and of course the other troubleshooting options such as updating recovery, supersu, etc. I am completely stumped, and any help is appreciated. Thanks!
Every nexus phone comes unlocked even when purchased from a carrier, so there should not be any proprietary firmware on your phone from the carrier. My guess is your EFS got messed and thats why you arent getting any cell service. Goto settings and check if your IMEI is displayed. If it is a 0 then your EFS is the problem. Also did you revert to the latest stock version and see if the problem still existed? It can be found here : https://developers.google.com/android/images#hammerhead
I'm fairly certain my service still works on stock, I haven't checked in a while, but I'll do that just to be sure. I doubt all of that really helps but I figure you know more than I do haha. To further explain I also seem to be able to proc my service to work when I switch airplane mode off and back on again, but only for a couple seconds and it craps out after that. It at least detects the SIM card, but no service whatsoever. I'm thinking it could possibly have something to do with the APNs but, I've tried so many different combinations of different Credo APNs online I'm not sure that's actually what's wrong.
Edit: I should also add that on the Credo SIM card under mobile networks in the settings there are carrier settings where you can choose to update your PRL and update your Profile. When I do this the PRL successfully updates but the profile update gets stuck on "The network is preparing your services."
Okay so I reverted to stock and after successfully updating my PRL and Profile I was able to verify service and data are working perfectly. Getting an average of 4-5 bars.

Can I use an ATT S8+ on Verizon's network?

Hi,
I was recently gifted an unlocked ATT S8+ (SM-G955U) which I'm trying to activate to my Verizon account. I've read conflicting information about this, and after going to the Verizon store and calling them directly I'm thoroughly confused.
The rep on the phone told me that the phone is "incompatible" with their network based on the IMEI number. From what I gather, the hardware (and model numbers) on all the major carrier's S8+s are the same and simply have different firmware. I've also read that they're interchangeable. Has anyone successfully gotten the ATT S8+ on Verizon? I'm almost feeling like it's something where I would need to jump through more hoops and speak to a manager to get them to do it, but before I did I wanted to get others input. Thanks!
I heard that the phone will work, you'll need to flash the Verizon firmware onto the AT&T phone.
Thanks Richie. Do you think that Verizon is telling me that the IMEI is "incompatible" because I may need to flash another firmware to enable CDMA? Or are some versions of the S4+ really incompatible on their network.
May there be possible success to get them to activate it anyway?

I do not - only because I'm coming from an S4 (which has the larger SIM card). I had to get a new one.

The IMEI thing and Verizon not provisioning your phone to activate on their network is the ONLY obstacle you have.
All the US S8/S8+/Note8 variants are identical and can be cross-flashed to whatever carrier you want. You can easily grab the VZW firmware and flash it on to your AT&T device, fully converting it, however the IMEI won't be in Verizon's system since your particular phone wasn't sold by Verizon.
Somehow get around that and your phone will be fully compatible on VZWs network.

Don't worry about what Verizon reps are telling you because most often than not they are following a standard procedure. And they only Input your IMEI into a service like this one:https://www.verizonwireless.com/bring-your-own-device/#checkDevice
As your IMEI is for an AT&T phone, the brand model has an A appended at the end (as in AT&T).
However, you should still investigate this issue and try the steps recommended by the other guys. You will be able to use your phone with a VZV sim without reaching to Verizon

Thanks!

I have an AT&T S8 + on Verizon's network, had to unlock the phone, I did flash VZV firmware.
Works for me.
Thanks all for the responses! So it does look like I can do it then, but I just need to get Verizon to activate the new SIM. Think if I could find another phone that's compatible, throw the SIM in, activate, then switch the SIM to the S8+ it would work? (Assuming I've flashed the Verizon firmware on it).
Also, I'm trying to find out how to flash the phone properly. I don't really need root, but I'll take it if its easy. Thinking in my scenario, I'd follow this thread, correct?

Yes, if you can get VZW to activate a nano SIM then all you have to do is pop it in your S8+, and it will work perfectly.
You don't HAVE to flash the Verizon firmware, but you'll won't be able to use certain features such as VoLTE and WiFi calling with the ATT firmware, so I recommend it. Not a necessity though.
To change carrier firmware, follow this thread:

Can't help you with rooting. Sorry, I stopped rooting my phones long ago.

This is great information! I'll call back Verizon and knowing all this I have something to back myself up with to at least try to convince them to activate the SIM (if not, I'll find a temporary phone to activate).
Thank you (and everyone else) for all the help!
I was able to get Verizon to activate the SIM and IMEI of the new S8. When I checked my account online to verify, it shows the correct numbers. Unfortunately, the phone is still not able to make calls or connect to the mobile network.
Following this, I rooted and flashed a deodexed stock ROM/firmware that is compatible with all carriers. This made no difference in the issue.
On the status bar, normal reception for my area is shown. There is no data (LTE/3G, etc.) connection, however. In looking at the APN settings, there are multiple Verizon options to choose. "Verizon Internet" (VZWINTERNET) is what is selected. Under the network operators, Automatic is selected. I tried changing it to Manual, but I do not get an option to select Verizon. Only ATT or T-Mobile. Under SIM Card Status, It's says that I'm on an unknown network.
Any ideas on what I could do to diagnose this? Sorry for all the questions, but I want to be able to get this phone to work so bad!
Thanks!
Success! I was about to give up, but decided to try a few more things.
1) To register a new SIM on VZW, it needs to initially go into a VZW based phone to work correctly. Once doing this, I saw some changes:
- I could now see my phone number.
- Verizon was an option under the network operators setting.
This did not solve my problem, however, as I still could not connect to the network. When selecting VZW, the request would fail and say to try again later. So onto the next (and last!) thing I did...
2) Download VZW firmware and flash via ODEN (The Comsey version, but I don't think that matters). I added the BL, AP, CP & CSC (included in the zip file) using the default options. I found this firmware at the below link and grabbed the latest version. The download was very slow for me (I had to run it overnight), but numerous posters stated that they are a reliable source so I took a chance.

I'm just so glad everything is working now. Thank you so much to all who have responded to the thread to guide me in the right direction! Hope this helps someone else who may be having the same trouble.
