Extreamly slow WIFI - General Questions and Answers

I have a OnePlus 2, and when i connect to my wifi network (also tried in a few different places like coffee shops etc - same problem) the speed is around 0.5mbps (measured by speedtest app, browsing, downloading etc), with any other device in my home i get around 50mbps. The signal is great, it connects normally, everything ok except speed. BUT, sometimes (extreamly rare) when I connect to my wifi the speed is normal (50mbps) and it stays that way until I disconnect and connect again...then I drops to 0.5mbps.
Things I tried:
Tried using static ip, and any other setting available in wifi settings.
Tried wiping cache/dalvik, factory reset, format internal storage.
Tried downgrading to lollipop, also flashing custom roms cm13/cm14/exodus/hydrogenos and also custom kernels.
Nothing above solved my issue, the problem was always the same. It's not router releated, because I tried connecting to different ones, same thing. Any advice?
Thank you in advance!

There is very little on the device that would cause this because your data speed is more controlled by the network you're connected to than by the device.
More than likely, it's something running in the background tying up your data connection, probably google play services and the playstore checking for updates. If you're using Facebook app, Facebook messenger, WhatsApp, Kik, Snapchat or any of the other social media/texting apps, they also tie up your data connection scanning for notifications and updates.

I was thinking the same, but then I did a factory reset, 0 apps installed and same speed... I tried connecting to different wifi networks in different places...same speed :/
EDIT: and as I said above, in extreamly rare cases when I connect- it works...then if I disconnect and reconnect again I get the same speed issue (doesn't matter if I do this in an hour or 5 hours)

You Stoll have google play services and google playstore after the reset, if you'll read around a little while, you'll see that the updated google play services causes slow data, battery drain and heating issues because its constantly scanning network, sane for playstore.

Battery drain while phone is idle

My battery only lasts about 8-9 hours after a full charge without me actually using the phone.
The top offenders are always some combination of Google Services, Google Play Services, Android OS and Android System. Google Services/Google Play Services always has a high keep awake time.
I have tried tons of stuff.. Uninstalling Google Play Services updates, booting into recovery and clearing the cache, factory resets, turning off Location services, location reporting, etc. turning them all on, all 3 location discovery modes, turning off wifi during sleep, turning off LTE, etc.. nothing worked..
.. until suddenly, without me changing anything that I could identify, the drain stopped. And it worked for about 3 days like that. I would only lose 1% battery every couple of hours of idling. At the end of a day of moderate use I was at 60%.
Then, I installed a couple more apps, and the dran came back. And now the drain won't go away.. I've factory reset, cleared the cache, etc. etc. and still it just drains.
Could this be a hardware issue? I'm not sure if I should RMA it or what.. (this is my 2nd that has done this BTW).

Do you have Google backup enabled? It could get stuck somewhere sometimes and drain your battery.

No. I have the backup disabled. And also the Photo backup. I tried to disable everything I can. Even without installing any apps on the stock ROM it drains.
Try formatting the data partition, backup what u need first. fastboot format userdata
also maybe try running a 3rd party launcher
turn off nfc in "other" and set gps in low power consumption in "geolocation"
Also get an app to switch from 3g to LTE while your phone is idle.
Looks like LTE is really really a bad friend for power consumption.
Turning off WiFi and or data when not using it helps. I recently downloaded greenify and its helping my battery life a bit.
Sent from my Nexus 5 using xda premium
So I went out to the store for a couple hours and I noticed I had basically no drop in battery while out. The main difference I could determine would be while out I am not on wifi.
When I got back the drain started again. I wondered if it was specific to my router, so I connected to a 5 GHz N router. I had been connecting to a 2.4 Ghz G router. So far, it seems that the drain is much faster if I switch to the G router, and when I switch to the N router it drains slower. Both routers have a strong signal.
So, I can just stay connected to the N router at home, but I'm not sure if there is a hardware defect with the wifi radio in the phone on 2.4.. Or if there's a misconfiguration or something on the router itself or what. I'm also not 100% sure it is even resolved since I only am a couple hours into testing and its very erratic.
BTW, if anyone has trouble connecting to 5GHz, the reason I wasn't connected to the N router in the first place, I found that you need to on a "Non-DFS" Channel. If your router is set to Auto, it may choose a DFS channel which the Nexus can't connect to. Apparently certain channels may have military activity on them and if so the device has to avoid that channel.. but rather than implement that on the Nexus those channels just don't work. I set my router to Channel 48 w/ 40 MHz width and it's working so far.

It wouldn't be the first time I've seen the wifi take a crap on an otherwise good router. My guess is that's what's happening.

Yeah I was noticing that the wifi and cell signals turn orange momentarily every now and then when I open the settings pane in the notification pull down. Maybe the wifi is getting dropped and re-connecting continuously.
I guess I will have to find another 2.4Ghz router to connect to figure out if its an issue with all 2.4Ghz routers.
sounds like it could be something syncing.. most are set to sync while on WiFi

[Q] No connection on some Google apps

I can't connect to Google play store/Gmail or Google Now on my nexus 5 via Wifi. None of the older topics about the same problem helped. It seems to work on my mobile network. It started completely randomly, the only thing i installed was Lookout security (but i'm not sure if it started after that) Then i uninstalled it, but it did not work as well. I had stock unlocked Nexus 5, was planning on installing cyanogenmod so this was a perfect chance to do so, and get a fix to the problem. Surprisingly, even unlocking, rooting, installing CM did NOT solve the problem.
Google play says no connection
Google Now says sing in error
Gmail says no connection
Google+ is working though.
Since even installing custom ROM did not help, you can be sure i already tried clearing the caches/data and all of the simple steps.
Any ideas?
You said that you can't connect on wifi, so I assume that you can do so on your mobile data connection?

Yes everything works on mobile connection, only my google play installed apps list seems to be constantly loading without showing my apps.
Google now, gmail, everything works on mobile. Other family members on the same wifi don't have any problems accessing their apps.
I fixed the problem in case anyone else gonna have the same issue try this: open your wifi settings, hold on your current wifi connection, select modify, check show advanced options and select proxy to "none"

Play apps sometimes don't load pictures over WiFi (Play Store, Music, etc)

Dealing with this problem for a while now. Nexus 5, Android M, everything always updated to latest. Approx 50% of the time none of the pictures are loading (app icons, screenshots, album covers in music). Appears only when connected to home wifi (never actually tried on other wifi connections).
Turning on VPN on phone solves the problem.
Using cellular internet solves the problem.
Clearing cache of Play Store and any other in-system changes on apps doesn't solve the problem.
Changing DNS to Google's doesn't solve the problem.
What else should I try?

wifi problems after cos 13 update

Updated my phone yesterday, got OTA finally, did factory reset after that, wiped cache but I have two problems when i am on WiFi. First problem is slow loading every picture from various apps (facebook, messenger, instagram, 9gag...), it takes 10-20 seconds for pictures to show, I will include screenshot below.
This is what it looks like in google play, every time I open it takes 10-20 seconds to load all, my connection is not bad, i have 40mbps download and apps are downloading at that speed without problems, only photos loading is slow...
Second problem is that my notifications from messenger, gmail etc are late like few minutes or they appear when I turn screen on / unlock my phone.
Those problems are only on WiFi, not when I am on 3G/4G. I doubt its my router settings because everything was fine yesterday when I was on COS 12.1 and I was on it few months without any problem.
Does anyone had or have problems like this on COS 13 ?
Same thing here. Reverting to cos 12.1 restored speeds but I would like to see if a solution is available

I fixed it by entering IPv6 google public DNS in my router settings, alternative solution is using DNSet application.

[Completed] Loading Custom ROM to fix apps not working on WiFi

Hi, I have a Samsung A5 phone and a Linksys Archer C5 router. For some reason a couple apps (mainly Facebook, Instagram and Google Play Store) will not work when I am connected to my home WiFi network. They just won't load any data. On other phones the apps work on the network fine and the apps work on this phone on other networks fine so it has something to do with the specific phone and router combination (i have also tried on a friend's network with the same router and it hasn't worked).
I have tried whatever solutions I could find on the net.... changing the IPv6 settings, removing network password, clearing cache and data on phone etc. Nothing seems to work.
The only other idea that I can think of is to try loading a custom ROM like Cyanogen and seeing if that solves it. But before I spend a ton of time learning how to do that and trying it (and probably failing a few times), I was wondering if anyone had any thoughts on if this might work.
Any thoughts, ideas, suggestions would be hugely welcome. This has been driving me nuts and is killing my data plan.
Thanks!

the above said issue doesn't seem to be a rom issue.. could you please try to install a different version of these apps? you could try to downloading them through a google search for various apk sites...
