[CAF] [KERNEL] [N5X] [NOUGAT] for stock rom - Nexus 5X Android Development

Hi, this is my first contribute to Nexus 5X, and since "probably" everything(or most of the things) works, my next task is to make a full caf rom for our Nexus 5X, but that would take some time..
This kernel is built using caf sources from branch LA.BF64.1.2.3_rb1.3 , and i pulled only the necessary commits from Google's official nougat kernel in to this one.. to make it work
The kernel has the stock kernel's ramdisk, so its 100% compatible with the latest Google Stock Rom , i haven't tested it on any other rom..
Code:
#include <std_disclaimer.h>
/*
* Your warranty is now void.
*
* I am not responsible for bricked devices, dead SD cards,
* thermonuclear war, or you getting fired because the alarm app failed. Please
* do some research if you have any concerns about features included in this ROM
* before flashing it! YOU are choosing to make these modifications, and if
* you point the finger at me for messing up your device, I will laugh at you.
*/
Flash it like every other kernel, via fastboot or twrp, FlashFire, Rashr... whatever, and reboot.
Download via Mega.

How i figured it, CAF is the code from Qualcomm directly. But someone may correct me.

Last build is NBD90W

I'm still on the NRD90S , and i have tested it on it, but it should work with other builds too.

CAF is actually AOSP sources taken from Google, and tweaked/adapted to Qualcomm hardware by Qualcomm it's self.
This kernel is not "revolutionary" in any way, its just means im one step closer to the full CAF ROM that im planning to make.

Great. I was wrong but not so much

Actually i made this thread so that other users can try it and report any bug..
So please try it and report back.

What's different? Should we expect better performance or battery life?
Sent from my Nexus 5X using Tapatalk

It works with NBD90W?

Did you plan to add some features that are present in other kernels, like io scheds/gamma control/tcp algorithms/backlight dimmer and other patches? I've been waiting so much for a full CAF kernel. Thanks for this.

Yes it works on NBD90W too, i just got the ota and i tried.
Don't expect anything, just try it and report back if you notice any bug.
This is a "work in progress" project, not "deep darkness" kernel

I needed fully working kernel first, then ill make the rom, and then... when i get the rom working too.. THEN i will add extra features.

Trying out the kernel. First thing I noticed is that the fingerprint reader is not working. The option to use it to unlock the phone is completely gone from the settings.

Thank you for the info, ill see about it.
I'm not using fingerprint, so i didn't noticed that, that's why i need testers, thank you.

Back in the good old days, when I had a Nexus 5, we hade 2 type of official CM builds. One AOSP and one CAF. The CAF one was a little bit better in performance, smoothness, features, battery consumption. Not much, just a little. It was a little bit more optimalized for our qualcomm device by code aurora. But I am not an expert, just guessing. And ofc I will try it asa I got back to stock. Or maybe even with DU. Will see.

I'd actually try it on nitrogen, but i can't download from mega on my phone. If you want to make a mirror, i'd test it.

SGT7 is the custom ROM by the guys who brought ICS/CM9 to the OG Galaxy Tab
Initially it supported only the first tab, but now we've decided to support other tablets as well, so here it is!
Code:
#include <std_disclaimer.h>

It's based on CyanogenMod 9, and will continue being to be so.
In short, it's a heavily modded CyanogenMod for tablets, fully opensource

zips with tf101 in it are for the transformer
Also available via Goo Manager
Installation and bugs are also same as CyanogenMod 9
So, download the zip, transfer it to the sd, reboot into Recovery and do a backup (always preferred, but optional), then install the zip.
Install GApps afterwards if you aren't coming from a CM9 / CM9 based ROM
Since neither of us has the device personally, the builds are untested, and we rely on you, the users, to help us.
Report anything wrong with the ROM, and what you'ld like to see in it.
Report issues here : http://code.google.com/p/sgt7/issues/list
(Do not report device-specific issues, i.e. stuff not working on CM9, report only stuff that you saw as a setting and didn't work as expected)
Lastly, thanks to the CyanogenMod team, for all their work, and thanks to the guys who ported ics to this tab.
It's just meant to be an addition of tablet specific tweaks to CM, and we might look forward to merging this functionality into CM later on, but for now, have fun with this.

Nope, it's built from source, and TouchWiz is a closed source proprietary Samsung feature.
tickled to see ongoing development for the og transformer!
This has got to be one if the top tabs for development. With that said thanks for this from. Love the features and are much needed IMO for an android tablet. Wish the flip clock and soft keys feature was working. ; ). Get a fc though while waiting for the UI to reset. Maybe I should wipe..... sorry...... This is great . Thnx

I'm assuming the guevor kernels and the modified guevor kernels for megatron won't work here?

Thanks to @infected_ @timmytim for sending me his compiled kernel
Thanks to @invisiblek for getting the D850 device tree started
Thanks to whoever worked on the D855 device tree.
BIG THANKS to Team Codefire for Bump!
I kind of hacked this ROM together after many attempts to get it working on the D850 building from scratch. Final key was the kernel from @infected_ @timmytim.
I know what's wrong with my source now have all the pieces in place to start pumping out nightly ROMs, just need to put them all together.

Primary CM ROM includes SU. Per OP, following flash, you'll need: http://www.mediafire.com/download/jvwtii3rij2l11n/pa_d850-4.6-BETA6-20141109.zip
Issues:
1. Kernal panic: fix: 11/12/14 12:00 PST, kernel panic appears to have been resolved, though other issues remain present. If you are still experiencing kernel issues/panic, post it up.
Fix 1. Boot.img incorporated into original CyanogenMod UNOFFICIAL 4.4.4 of OP: posted by AlexGMC

Fix 2. boot.img only for those that have already done the primary CyanogenMod install, posted 11/12/14: up by Timmytim:

Timmytim: "If you want to support someone I highly recommend donating to @infected_ and @invisiblek since they got us here."
Current bugs in new image which may remain:
data/ril for some, still evaluating
screen rotation
hotspot
compass as well as pitch & roll sensors are not working.
Autobrightness wasnt really adjusting properly when outside.
Sensor0 and Sensor1 I2C issues?
Appears you may lose the secret phone menu: the secret menu at 3845#*850# isn't working. It was commented that the secret menu is only available on stock ROMs.
2. reports of laser/camera issues, camera freezing system, needing reboot for some, no current fix
3. 'torch' not working:, fix, unknown
4. exchange not working following flash: fix, to delete CM exchange and restore from backup
5. auto rotate issues reported: fix, none reported yet
6. Proximity sensor doesn't seem to work.

Introduction
I use Lineage for my Moto Z, and was bummed out that I wasn't going to get any security updates. So, I decided to learn how to build it myself!
I'm no coder, and I have mad respect for those who actually code and make all of these ROMs possible. That being said, all I know how to do is build the thing from the Lineage repos. I CANNOT FIX BUGS. Period. I would if I could, but I simply don't know how. I can try tiny, very small things, but no guarantees.
I plan on trying to upload builds monthly as time permits, but I have a full time job and other obligations, so it may be irregular. But I like updates as much as everyone, so I'll do my best to build as often as I can.

Flash using latest TWRP. Upgrades, or "dirty flashes", should be fine between builds.
If you are coming from Lineage 14.1 Official builds, you must first flash the migration zip. The installer won't work when working with different keys. Find it here
Make sure to flash Gapps BEFORE you reboot.

Wonder what they could have changed over at Lineage to break it, since camera stuff is pretty device-specific and no one is working on this device now. Good luck at any rate.

taking some baby steps with developing! I forked Alberto97's repos and made a couple of changes...including this one:

could you please add 0xC113 bootloader support? from Alberto's AOSP fix I take it shouldn't be a hard fix to make:
-require version-bootloader=0xC105|0xC106|0xC107|0xC112
+require version-bootloader=0xC105|0xC106|0xC107|0xC112|0xC113

I'll do some testing and upload a build later today

Thanks for your effort man. I really appreciate it. Can you tell me what the security patch level is though?

Still on Dec 5, guess the Jan patch hasn't been merged yet.
So trying to get some things working on my daily driver...my company uses Microsoft Intune Company Portal for access to my work email, which does the standard root checking & etc. On the last official Lineage build, it worked just fine so long as root was shut off in developer tools (if the root zip was installed).
One thing it does which is a bit irritating is that it seems to assume your phone is rooted if you use a rom with test keys, which would be all unofficial builds by default, including mine. So in order to get my work email I'm making signed builds for myself along with the regular unsigned builds. If anyone is interested I can upload signed builds here in case you have some reason you need a signed build. Other than that, I'm not sure there's really any advantage to having a signed build vs an unsigned one. One big disadvantage, you can't migrate to or from any other builds, so you'd be stuck with me unless you wipe

Here are the scripts to migrate from unsigned to signed or the other way around, to dirty-flash without issue :

From what I understand, these only work if you're going between Lineage keys and test keys, not any other keys
Is ther any way to get substratum themes working on this rom i have tried oms and lineage selection but nothing is getting themed.

How did you get updated proprietary blobs?
zander21510 said:
Forked Alberto97s device & kernel so I could try and fix bugs, and also started using a different repo for the proprietary blobs, that fixed the camera issue! So now it looks like everything is working, android security patch is still on Dec 5 though, but everything else is current. Let me know if there are issues

Thanks for this (and to Alberto97, if you're out there...).
Like you, I finally couldn't take it any more and began building on my own. I, too, had a fully functional phone except for the camera.
I jumped through a few hoops trying to get the proprietary blobs, and finally scraped them out of your build. I installed XT1635-02_ADDISON_7.1.1_NPNS26.118-22-2-8_cid50_subsidy-DEFAULT_regulatory-DEFAULT_CFC and tried extract-files.sh but that didn't get everything. I didn't try a deeper look, as I was eager to get my phone working again. I unzipped your ROM and extract-files.sh worked. I rebuilt and now the camera works with my build.
How did you get those blobs? Also, do you know if Motorola publishes stock ROMs for addison, or do we always have to get them second-hand from something like lolinet?
Thanks in advance for any info. I'm probably not worthy of taking responsibility after the loss of Alberto97, but I'd be willing to lend a hand or coordinate the effort somehow.

I just added this repo (https://github.com/TheMuppets/proprietary_vendor_motorola) to the manifest, you can do that in lieu of the "extract proprietary blobs" step. I noticed there was a fork of it on Alberto97's github (but it was out of date), so I poked around and found TheMuppets one was still being updated, including fixes for addison. So made a build and presto- no more camera issues.
I guess there's some gray legal area when it comes to the proprietary Motorola stuff, that's why it's not listed as an option in the official Lineage build instructions.

Request:
Can you please fix issue with volte sim and dialer?
In volte sim, if someone calls me or i call someone, it is shown as missed call
And also call duration shown is weird
Eg if i talk for 10 mins, it will be shown ass 100 min or 69 min etc
And vibrate on connect also doesn't work properly
So inshort, can you please fix dialer?? I don't want to use google dialer because it doesn't have vibrate on connect feature
And dialer is basic requirement of a mobile
Can you change icon mask of apps from square to circle please?
@daothanhduy1996
Nice work.
You have mentioned about substratum. So i'm asking does this rom have substratum OMS commits?
Can you consider to add a major key remapping mod? Thank you!
ROM is running great!
Substratum Themes are now being applied instantly without a reboot!

Would try to update it at least weekly. And battery depends on usage (and should be at least same as official omni). I can get 4 - 6h sot depends on which date would it be in the week. (My usage varies between weelday and weekend)
Thanks dev Rom is smoother than Official Omni

It should be ok, as I did that myself and have had no problem. Btw, my setup is rom + open gapps + magisk.

Can you please revert the statusbar's battery icon size on omni to stock one? Omni's icon looks a little bit larger and wider compared to stock. It's only a cosmetic change, but will be useful for people with OCD Thanks for your work.

+1
Sorry but no, I won't revert it coz I have no issue w that. Actually, I prefer it this way, or else I would have reverted it from the beginning. I hope you understand . Basically, omni is already my favorite, I just season it a lil bit to my own taste .
Mayb I would find a way to compile the rom and kernel w toolchain like linaro or so later when I have free time. I'm currently a lil bit busy w works that haven't been able to do so
