[Q] Do newer Android releases run well on the tablet's older hardware - Galaxy Tab 2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I received recently a Tab 2 (P5110) tablet and I would like to make the most of it. The latest stock rom is based on Android 4.1 or 4.2 but there are numerous roms that are based on more recent Android versions, namely 5 and 6.
My question is: from your experience, are these newer android releases (5 and 6) well adapted to the dated hardware of the Tab 2, or does performance take a hit when compared to the older 4.x (as is often the case with iPhones or Windows PCs)?
I would appreciate if you could also mention which specific rom(s) were better (or worse) in that respect.
Thanks!

Android 5 and 6 are slower than previous ones on this device. I use CyanogenMod 11 (4.4) and it's great

imo 4.4.4 is the last good android for this hardware, newer version were not design with 1gb of ram in mind.

Thanks!
I would guess that the main advantage of the 4.4 CM 11 is the removal of unnecessary apps.

The best current ROM for the TL-10?

Hey everyone.
I am growing sick / bored of EMUI. I dislike literally everything that they've slathered onto Android. From the notification panel to the crappy lockscreen and everything in between.
My question is this: Which of the (albeit extremely limited) available ROM's for the HAM7 is the best, and as a bonus closest to stock android?
I do realize that flashing these ROM's requires some jumping through hoops, but I think it would be worth it at the end of the day.
The only two ROM's I know of that's working on the HAM7 is KangVIP (this is an EMUI-based rom as I understand, so I would love to avoid it) and the unofficial Cyanogenmod 11. Both of these requires downgrading to 4.4.4, but honestly if that means I can break free from the shackles that is EMUI it would be worth it. Even sacrificing the fingerprint scanner, which is one of the reasons I blindly purchased this phone, would be worth escaping the devastating black hole that is EMUI.
I've also read that, due to the similarities between the HAM7 and the Honor 6 (?) you can get away with flashing ROM's intended for the latter. Has anyone flashed one of these bootleg ROM's and is currently having a smooth, stable experience? Are there ones based on Android 5.1.1 and above?
For the record my device specifically is the TL-10 Gold model (B324).
Cheers. :good:
Huawei doesn't released kernel source for 5.1.1 or 6.0 android so there isn't any costum rom based on this android version. There is only 4.4 kernel source so only costum rom based on this android versions can be available. If there is any good developer...
Bottom line: if you want to flash rom and costumised your system you should bougt some Nexus device or some other popular flagship that has xda community support such as HTC M7 / M8, samsung flagships with Snapdragon cpu...

Android Go (Oreo 8.0) for galaxy tab 3 10.1

If someone would want to make an android oreo go rom, it might actually run. Because theses devices are really old and their performance is really bad. However Android go was designed to run on devices less powerful than the tab 3.
Would be awesome but I don't think that any developer will build a rom like this.
Probably nels83, this working in andreo oreo for this wonderful tablet.
I put cyanogenmod on it for the same reason, it is amazing the differents !
15k bunchmark before (kitkat 4.4.2), 22k now...
All work better, it has a wonderful fluidity than before.
Sry for my english

i would love to see Android 8.0 Go edition Rom get released for all Samsung galaxy Tab 3 10.1 varients on XDA so i dont stick with android 7.1 later in the future.
I suggest you change to title as it's misleading.

Thoughts on Revolution OS

While I was going through some videos, came across Revolution OS. Wanted to get a bit more information regarding the custom MIUI ROM, but found none on XDA. So, went ahead and tried it, seems like it is a ported Android 10 MIUI 12 for Redmi Note 5 Pro, from Note 7. Not really buggy, but the devices heats up and the camera quality can be considered bad compared to other available ROMs. Overall available ram and animation speed seemed much better compared to Xioami.eu rom. Might need a bit more fixes here and there, before it can be considered a better alternative.
So, wanted to hear more about other people's experience regarding this particular rom.
Never knew about Android 10 port. Thanks for the info. I'll try it.
Revolution OS is a Spanish ROM with features mixed from Global and China Developer ROMs. It's very carefully tested to avoid issues within the users, and it has a strict policy about bug reporting or testing. Currently, that Android 10 ROM, with MIUI 12, is a port from Redmi Note 7, adapted to the peculiarities of Note 5 Pro. It will be improved over time, only it's a preliminary version.

Most current SU/rooted Touchwiz Rom in 2020?

I used to rock a Galaxy S2 for a long time, from 2012-2015, and just bought a used one again for the novelty, and for use basically as MP3 player for live shows (once they get going again). Not planning on using this as a "daily driver" or putting in any SIM card, mainly just as a novelty retro device to play background music that's cheap to replace if someone stole it at a gig.
I'm having a hard time sorting through what's available here. I used to have a Touchwiz-based Jelly Bean ROM installed that had different elements in there, I think the last features it had were things from the Galaxy Note II and Galaxy S4. It was basically a fine-tuned version of TouchWiz with all the bloat removed. I remember the camera being particularly good and much clearer than stock. I don't mind if its a Jelly Bean, Ice Cream Sandwich or whatever came later, Kit Kat, etc but mainly am just trying to find the best TouchWiz based custom rom just for nostalgia fun.
I also understand that the Play Store probably doesn't work with any of the available Android versions, this is mainly to be used as an MP3 player, and maybe rarely as an extra video camera, and I may side load old versions of an NES/SNES emulator and that's it. Thanks for any help!
im using this phone still, using the unofficial lineageOS 14.1 by celox
https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s2-tmobile/rom-cyanogenmod-14-0-celox-t3470659
google apps works and not many problems but runs very slow, slow that it makes me angry
without gapps runs faster but still slow
phones really old, use it mostly for an alarm clock and 1 app
Wonder if adding the low ram flag would speed it up?
And overclocking?

Hi just came across this forum, I run a custom cyanogenmod 10 based Android Jellybean 4.3 rom, and it makes my Galaxy S2 run very fast.
90% of the things I want to do still work, including google calendar, web browser etc, and you can download apks of older versions of anything that won't run.
A lot of apps supported JellyBean until 2019, and the playstore version is from 2020, so not that old.
@ARPwizard you may also like this.

What is the best official OxygenOS to use on OP6?

Hi!
I'm getting OnePlus 6 as a replacement for my old 5T. I wonder what is the best firmware for it right now? I don't want to dabble into custom ROMs, I just want an official OxygenOS. From quick search I got very confusing reports, with people bashing any version after 9.0.9 it seems - be that Android 10 or Android 11 - be that any specific version number - for bugs with GPS, Gmail, battery drain, overheat issues, other issues...
So should I just stick with last 9.0 version (that would be 9.0.9, correct)?
Or is there a good more recent version available which has no issues?
i've never had your model but i think the latest version is best for you. You do not want mods, so definitely the latest version. New versions are built to be better than the old. if you like looking at other versions then you can just go to the oneplus website. https://onepluscommunityserver.com/list/Manuals/ good luck.
v9 has better battery, less bugs and is more stable than 10 and 10 is better than 11
so latest = worst in this case, but to be fare latest has more features and more security
Personally v9.0.3 is the best in my opinion but you can try yourself and find out based on your needs and likings , that includes lineageOS
