If so, what do you thing about the announcement today?
It pushed me closer towards the v20 personally, but I wonder what you guys think.

Nope!
The Pixel is not impressive at all to me. I want more in a phone that just takes a good photo.

While I love a good camera on my phone, I agree. I need a lot more to put down that much cash.
My V10 has been taken excellent photos. Can imagine the V20 will not disappoint.

No Pixel overpriced and outdated toys for me. Not in the same league as my Nexus6p or the V20!
The V20 is looking better everyday. Definitely not interested in the pixel xl disaster. I'll keep my Nexus 6p first.
Yeah, V20 looks better in almost every way. If Pixel had removable battery, expandable storage, didn't look like an iPhone, and was cheaper by $100 or so, I'd consider it over this phone. As the stands, the V20 is the phone to beat for me.
Pretty funny how the V20 is the first to ship with Android 7.0 and then the Pixel phones ship with 7.1... Sneaky Google.

Neither one had shipped yet, "first" remains to be seen
Personally, waiting for V20.
I will say that my disappointment of the Pixel drove me to look for an alternative, which led me to this device. The V20 seems to have solid hardware and software, and I'm betting it's going to cost less than the Pixel, which in my book would make it the best flagship of the year. In any case, we'll find out soon enough.

The V20 started shipping in Korea last month, so it is definitely the first.
Pixel priced me out. I have a 6p from them and it seems it's going to be abandon ware after just over a year in existence. I'm gonna get the v20 and just sit on the 6p as a backup phone or maybe sell it. Feel burned a bit by Google though.

I'm betting there's not gonna be a preorder for the v20 since it's such a niche phone. I'm hoping for end of the month release

I feel ya,that's messed up that, although the 6P will get the 7.1 update,it's not cool to push the update(s) back, just for the Pixel line to grab top-billing (I'm 1st......)
JMHO,once you get your hands on a V20,it'll make you all but forget about the Nexus &/or Pixel line-up.
Timely updates are nice, but,I'll take the extra features that LG/Samsung/etc...... offer vs timely updates on stock Android.
I am considering the v20 pixel and the lates moto still undicided. One thing for certain has to be bootloader unlocked ....

The critical function for me will be rootability, unlocked bootloader, and free wifi hotspot tethering on Verizon.
I have this on the L3, and that's where I will have to stay until I can move up and keep these.
I'm considering the V20 myself. The Pixel XL just couldn't come close to justifying the $300+ increase over what I paid for my 6P. Plus I'm also considering this for my wife and kids to get them off iPhone's, and with the Pixel that's complicated (as we're on T-Mobile with JUMP). So I will be paying very close attention to this once it is finally available. Though I am seriously considering taking a look at the Axon 7 as well.

The Axon 7 is a great device for the most part. The software leaves a bit to be desired, but it may get better... it will get better once the official (from ZTE) CyanogenMod release for it comes out. Do be aware though, the camera is absolutely garbage in mid to low light. Daylight shots are mostly good and highly detailed, except for some bad edge lens softness. Also be aware that T-Mobile WiFi calling is still not released (who knows if it ever will be) and I'm not sure if VoLTE is working either.

Yeah it looks like an amazing device. I've read about the issues with Signal Strength as well and is one of the reasons why I'm hesitant to do anything with it. Don't care about the Camera/WiFi Calling to be honest, and may/may not care about VoLTE. But definitely a step backwards from my 6P. Will have to wait and see how the V20 does, though I don't know if I can move to it (I'm really hung up on front facing stereo speakers now).

Totally forgot about that issue. Yes, it can be a problem. I did notice it had worse signal, but rarely to the point of impacting my usage negatively. This will vary based on where you live. If you're out in the boonies and rely on 1 bar on service constantly, certainly do not gamble with it until they fix it (if they can)... or buy one from somewhere that you can easily return it if it doesn't work out.

Yeah, not sure whether or not it will affect me. I live in Los Angeles, and both at work and home I get 60-110Mbit LTE, but I do occasionally visit an area where even my 6P barely works (while my wife's iPhone just keeps ticking along).

As the Release of V20 will soon be upon us we reflect back on the failures and success of the V10. Me as a person who waited to get the V10 until it was rooted was very excited for this phone,I was happy with all the specs that it had and the design that had a commanding look but that didn't come without issue also. The fingerprint reader had issue not able to read with a case on it,fake second screen bleed issues. wi-fi is slow or dropping out, data and call issues and last be not least screen retention issues. luckily the phone didn't suffer issues from the G4 which had the death reboot which had the same 808 SD. I have done one replacement and that is because of the calls ,data and screen issues was getting worse which I couldn't take, Since the new one came in I've had little issues with it. thank god
Now with the V20 coming right around the block and after watching the press release I'm very interested to see how this V20 holds up. The looks of the phone could be more desirable but its not bad on the eyes especially with the colors that are being released Titan (very dark grey), Pink, and Silver. People will definitely ask what phone is that( The New Iphone) LOL . The specs are on point with this year flagships 5.7in screen 2k screen , 820SD,4GB ram,64 OBS, 3200mAh battery nothing to brag about and android 7.0 out of the box big plus for them. This phone brings a similar rear camera look and function of the G5 but with improvements of presentation and software which I like, they removed the rear buttons which is kinda a disappointment that they took there LG look away that separated from the rest now it looks like every other phone. In the end this is phone is upgrade worthy and I will most surely deserve a look. With other flagships phone coming out the V20 may have some tough competition only time will time.
Now I wanted write a full blow article but i wanted to keep in short and sweet and also see how well I can put this together seeing it as my first . I hope this small review helps.
Peace
I want to buy lg
01. I never get afraid again lg phone to receive :silly:
02. No support
03. never good option for root
04. power consumption sucks
I have been thinking of getting the 20 also. I have to say my 10 has been a great phone. I am worried about getting root.
I am seriously considering the v20!

while it looks great, it honestly isn't enough for me to make the jump. The SD820 is nice, and the DAC is probably a good upgrade, but i just cant see making the jump...
I'm getting the v20. It satisfies all the hardware requirements that I am still clinging to (removable battery, memory expansion, great camera). I'm hoping this upgrade solves the issues I had with the v10 (poor power consumption, crappy speaker quality, weak bluetooth). But I will hope and pray that it gets root, but I'm ok with waiting for that. If I need rooted capabilities, I can go back to one of my old nexus devices.
As it stands, the V20 is a great upgrade for me.
$700 is a lot to just upgrade from the 808 to the 820. Not sure about gamers but i have yet to do anything on my phone that the 808 wasn't able to handle.
That b&o earphone is nice but would be more practical just to buy it lol.
My thoughts are it might be worth it. Couple things I'm weighing:
1. Is 2nd screen a true 2nd screen?
2. The audio improvements only seem to apply to wired headphones?
3. Android 7! Yes!
All else seems equal and I do like the rooted V10

Okay that would make sense for the high price.
So let me ask you this. What do you think it is worth with these upgrades?
820SD
upgraded camera software for stills and videos
upgraded audio 4 24bit DACs
update modem
I'm tired of the v10.. Getting the v20 no doubt..
With all the hype it's getting, I think the V20 will have a bigger development community. I'm a long time Nexus user and Samsung dev and I'm jumping over to the V20 side of the fence. Grass looks greener there than the Google Pixel side of the fence.

I enjoy my v10 but lack of development & some small issues make me want to upgrade. I am still considering the Note 7.
I love the flagship LG phones but fact is they are becoming more and more locked down and when root finally does come out a new version of android comes out then we have to wait another 3-5 months for a root for that version to come out. This fact that the bootloaders and everything else is so tightly locked down now makes developers shy away from the device which in turn slows down the rooting/unlocking process even further. I think buying the v20 or future LG flagship devices means you accepting that there will be little to no development for it.
In a nutshell.... Before buying flagship LG phones (as awesome as they are), the main question you should be asking yourself is are you comfortable with using it as is out of the box until you get your next phone. I'm a root junkie and always trying to squeeze as much performance and battery life out of my devices as possible so as awesome as it is I'm prob going to team nexus once my v10 goes up the river.
I was gung ho for the upgraded dac, but this time I am waiting it out;
-LG took too long to actually release the phone.
-LG did not upgrade the screen quality, my phone has SERIOUS image ghosting. Basically you can not run this device on full bright (my choice, not everyone), without damaging the screen and the warranty sucks.
-LG did not really offer enough difference vs every other device that has been out for months. Why not add use the 821 or the 823, so the device has some long term life.
-LG seems to have locked the devices down, such that developers don't even care about this device. If you can't root an android device, their is NO BENEFIT over the latest Iphone 7.
It does not appear that LG is going to match the Samsung 256mb sd card freebie, so considering the amazing price drop of the V10 (the phone is only worth $200ish resale and its not even 1yr old), I am going to wait until the resale price drops in a few months, and I certainly won't buy one at $700+ with no ability to root the device.
Did anyone here consider getting a Pixel XL, but ended up getting a V20 instead? What were your reasons and have your expectations been met?

i considered it. it looks like a good phone but it looks ugly. lol also no sd card slot was a big deal breaker and after note 7 fiasco removable battery sounded good.
so far so good with the lg v20. wishthe battery life was a tad better but i can change it so no big deal. no lag or hiccups. i haven't had any issues really.

yeah I was going to get it but only really supplied by verizon in the US, couldn't justify $800 when the V20 was $350 on contract with sprint
Never considered it since I thought it was a downgrade & too much iphonie!
The only two potential cons (I've never owned an LG phone before, so I don't have any personal experience) is the fact that with the Pixel, you'll get the latest Android updates for the next two years. How is LG with updates to Android?
Second potential downside to the V20 is the new Google assistant which may not come to the V20 (as it appears that Google want to differentiate their phones from other Android phones). I really want this feature even though the reviews say its really a 1.0 version and needs work.
Other than the above two pros (as far as I'm concerned), I prefer the following on the V20 compared to the Pixel XL:
- Slightly bigger screen
- Removable battery
- as good or a close second (based on a couple of reviews I've seen) camera as on the Pixel
- price
If not for the fact that its not available on any Canadian online retailer (that I'm aware of), I would have bought the V20 already and wouldn't have started this thread. lol
I thought about it until I saw the price. I normally buy my devices outright unless there's a promotion.
770-$200 trade in promotion(Moto E on its last leg I bought over a year ago). So $570+ tax free next day(2 day for Hawaii and Alaska)
Vs
$870 + tax and shipping. So close to $1,000 for a phone.
I like Google and all, but I can't see myself spending 1k for a phone even if it's from them.
Sent from my LG-H918 using Tapatalk
The fact that they are trying to you force you to buy it just to have Google assistant really turned me off.
Considered it. Ultimately did not go with it because I needed to get rid of my Note 7 and the XL 128 GB was out of stock. Plus I would have had to give up Jump On Demand (T-Mobile).
I considered it for a while then realized that google will never put an SD card on their phone. That brought me to the conclusion that Google can go kindly **** themselves. My consideration was long gone before I discovered that the phone was as ugly as sin.
I didn't even considered it LOL I usually don't criticize the cosmetic of any smartphone at first glance.... But... The pixel was an exception lol. I just couldnt handle glass and metal together in the back and in such a way. To me the pixel XL is a downgrade, and i might as well place it along with the iphone 7 on the category of phones that (FOR ME) should actually worth about $400+. Also, i dont see anything worthy enough to make me change to the pixel XL on the specs. The no micro sd card is already a LOSE for me, imagine lol . Also, i use my IR Blaster alot! Now, regarding google assistant.... that is a software, not a hardware. At some point along the way we might get it (LG V20's) if it is even worthy. I mean, we already have google integrated in the device, we can even unlock a devices which is locked and screen off with our voice since google voice is already there for you, and it is pretty much like an assistant. It does everything i ask (her/him LOL choose your voice) to do to. >>> If that is what all you meant with google assistant, then LG V20 has it.
I actually bought both.
T-Mobile stated that I have 20 days to play with the LG V20, and if I don't like it - I can return it. I also ordered a Pixel XL about 3 days ago, 128 GB in white/silver.
I should be receiving the V20 soon, as T-Mobile has given me a tracking number. I know for a fact that I'll love the LG V20, but it'll come down to how badly do I really miss vanilla Android. It'll also come down to battery life and ergonomics of the V20 - does it feel like a premium phone in my hands? I think at this point I'm more likely to cancel my Pixel XL order than I am giving back the V20.
Time will tell! Either way, both are great phones and many of the camera "issues" have been debunked with the Pixel XL - it has an amazing camera. If you can live without an SD card, and can live with the fact that it looks like a replica of an iPhone, then you really should consider it.
I personally don't see a point of buying the pixel just yet. I personally used about 6 phones last year and I would rather go with an iPhone than buying a pixel. The reason I'd buy a nexus to start with is the development here in XDA , but I don't like any entity who tries to mimic the Apple business model. I know they're trying to offer a premium experience but coming from the note 7 RIP, I believe that the v20 is a much better investment for the time being.k would have gotten the pixel xl at a $500 price tag just like the nexus 6p but close to a $100 and no expandable storage trying to be Apple? Very much no thank you I am out. I am enjoying my removable battery, very nice camera, expandable storage and IR BLASTER on my v20 now.
definitely considered it, the v20 was just easier on t-mobile, I had an upgrade to use, also the removable battery and SD card is a must have for me
Nope, the pixel sucks only because of its price. Google is trying to release an expensive phone that is at the same price point as Apple. Too bad Google, we have so many other options to pick from with Android.
A great camera and an assistant does not justify the high price point. Many other Android phones have a great camera, sd card, waterproof, etc....
had it for 2 days, returned it this past saturday. Came home ordered my v20 from big red and arrives tomorrow the 25th.
I was trying to decide between both for a good while. Decided on the V20 mainly because the Pixel XL 128gb is on back order until December through Verizon, and I can get the V20 right now. Also, while the Pixel looks like a solid phone, it just seems rather... boring and vanilla. Yeah, Google assistant looks cool, but I've heard it's not really an upgrade from Google Now in its current state. Oh, and I have a 256gb SD card that I'd like to make use of.

The V20 feels VERY premium in your hands.
Anyone experiencing similar issues as this reviewer ? (yes I know she has a pre-prod device, that's why I'm asking to confirm that these issues have been fixed).
http://mobilesyrup.com/2016/09/26/lg-v20-review-canada/
Main issues she ran into were its inconsistent processing performance (google maps for instance was buggy) (including painfully slow boot time).
I definitely considered the XL. In fact, I would have bought the XL if only it were in stock and available.
I just love anything stock android and I usually buy the latest Nexus device anyways (PIXEL? in this case)
I am also a huge supporter in the HTC company and I will invest in them until they are fully defeated lol.
So naturally I will go with the next available choice in the V20. And the more I think of it, the more assured I feel about the choice.
Whats not to like?
- $200 credit
- Free B&O headphones (I am an up and coming audiophile lol)
- MicroSD
- quad DAC
- Unorthodox camera setups
- Removable battery!!!!!
SO I am pretty stoked lol.
I pre-ordered the Pixel XL about 10 days ago and was happily waiting. I was lucky enough to have time to go into ATT today to look at the V20 and Verizon to look at Pixel. I came home and cancelled my Pixel order.
Here's why: Pixel freaking looks exactly like an iPhone minus the home button, especially in silver/white. I just don't like the glass on the back, seems like a really bad idea. Overall jus does not look premium.
As for V20, it has 2nd screen so I can see my notifications, Pixel has no ability for this. Knock on for V20 ++ Premium look and feel. Removable battery/memory card +++ That's enough for me.
I currently have a Nexus 6p and have been a fan of everything. Growing tired of the size and considering the pixel, not the XL. Currently I have 64gb but only use 24gb currently. I have VZW UDP so I pretty much stream everything. I'm in love with the pixel. Especially the camera. With the bootloader being unlocked by firewall devs, I'm ok with buying a Verizon version. Couldn't pull the trigger in the store today though. Gonna be another month minimum before a 128 is shipped (but don't feel I need 128gb) but 32 makes me nervous. Even if the VZW version never gets full unlock, I only need tethering, and signal reset is a good enough work around for my needs.
So, I need opinions on whether I should or should pull the trigger and get the 32gb, or just keep my N6 for another year. (still in mint condition)
I came from a Nexus 6 (not 6p) to the Pixel. It feels small at first but I'm liking the one handed use.
It's better across the board; faster, better screen (brightness / color), battery life etc.
The only thing I notice is that the fingerprint sensor gestures would be more usable on the XL. On the 5 inch, it's not as useful since I can reach the whole screen more easily.

I have absolutely no complaints about my 6P except the clumsy size. I ordered a Pixel as I usually get a new phone every year.
I am on Project Fi, and usually get good reception in the fringe area I live, except the Golf Course I play. I was expecting the Pixel to be better in this regard but it wasn't. Side by side I was seeing between 3 and 5 dBm less signal... strike one.
I don't listen to movies or music on the phone's speakers, but occasionally podcasts. The speaker on the Pixels is not as loud as my original Moto X's rear firing speakers. In a pocket, in a noisy environment, I would miss notification sounds... strike two.
Finally, it doesn't work on Android Auto with my Pioneer AVH4100NEX... strike three.
Strike three was the deal breaker and if not for that I might have kept it. The screen is noticeably brighter, and the phone is definitely faster (but the 6P is just fine in that regard as well), and I liked the size (although it is still very slippery like the 6P).
If I see that they fix the Android Auto issue with Pioneer, I may order another one... but by then who knows, the Pixel 2 may be on the horizon. I get the feeling Google rushed this phone. The Ron Amadeo articles on Ars Technica are definitely food for thought. Who knows what Pixel 2 will be like given they'll have over a year to get it right.
Just my 2ยข... YMMV.

Not to be rude, really, but... you're an adult. Lol. Research the phone and if you like it, buy it, if you don't, than, buy yourself a steak.
The 6P is great, if you were going for the Pixel XL (instead of the Pixel); I'd stay this year with the 6P and next year do the switch to 2017 Pixel. (Unless you really care about the Compass in Google Maps. which sux in the 5X/6P, and is one of my 2 issues with the 5X at the moment, the RAM and the compass accuracy).
I'm honestly very fine with the 5X, I'll only switch to the Pixel mainly because of the RAM and to try the new compass (I'm tired of this bosch BMM150 it's a mess, tried it in 3 nexus). I also like the 5" and the smaller width distance. But since this Pixel is made of metal, It will be more slippery than the black 5X, so i'll probably will be using a grip case, and that case will make the pixel bigger, similar to the 5X..
In your case..your only issue is the one-handed usage with the 6P. If you really want to go back to a one handed phone, I'll try the Pixel. But IMO, nothing better than the original/old 2013 Moto X for one handed usage. (This depends on your hand shape and size) Of course it's old, but what I meant is, it'd be nice to have a 3rd smaller 4.7" pixel 720p variant.... (size is not the main factor for one handed usage... For instance, I tried a Z5 Compact 4.6" and had to put a case because it was slippery, I'm much more comfortable with a naked black 5X than a naked Z5 Compact).

The 6P is great, if you are going for the Pixel; I'd stay this year with the 6P and next year do the switch to 2017 Pixel. (Unless you really care about the Compass in Google Maps. which sux in the 5X/6P, and is one of my 2 issues with the 5X at the moment, the RAM and the compass accuracy).

Very true. The compass always needs recalibration on my 6p. I really want to upgrade, so the basic question is, is 32gb worth it? I dont come close to using the 64 I got now, and by the time the 128gb start shipping, depixel8 will probably be patched by VZW. I usually keep the bootloader locked, but it's nice to have that ability if needed...

I only know that the compass is different, they still use Bosch sensors, but not anymore for the compass, it was changed for some Japanese brand's e-compass. I don't really know if the Pixel still has compass random issues like the 5X/6P, so be careful of this. I'll get the Pixel as soon as they sell it in Spain, I wan't to buy it in my country of residence in case I need to return it.
32GB are ok to me in the 5X..because I only have google apps + some small apps + Hearthstone. And every time I reach 8GB of photos/videos it move all to my PC. (In the Pixel you'll have the Photos unlimited upload promotion so this would be a more easy task if you end using this feature). For my usage, 16GB is not enough. 32GB is much more than enough.

Thanks. Very helpful for me. So was the poster about the radio. I've been rather unimpressed with the 6p radio for phone calls and if the pixel is worse it could be a deal breaker. Was hopeful with HTC that the radio would be better. In my house I've gotten the best reception in the past with HTC, and the worst with Samsung until Huawei
Yeah. I was in the same boat as you. I realised I gained a few things and lost a few things in getting the Pixel.
My main praise is that the Pixel is the only viable small flagship in Android land. The smaller factor is a major requirement for me even though I have large hands. So the Pixel really ticks this box. I wish it were smaller even.
The Pixel feels much better in the hand in terms of materials, weight, balance and sheer confidence in its build quality/durability. As compared to my 6P.
The software feels more natural in one handed usage. The Pixel feels faster and more responsive. More coherent and finished.
I found the battery life a little bit more reliable too. But early days.
Now... The camera is the same as that in the 6P in my experience. Just has EIS, which the 6P should be given anyway as it's just software AFAIK.
SO... Ugly design compared to the 6P and the iPhone or the Galaxy line.
Weaker speakers. Less storage. Higher price. Poorer design.
Therefore, the size compelled me. It's therefore a different phone, not a better phone.

Actually, the 6P has EIS, it just uses a different, less effective method. I have read a lot of conjecture that the 6P might not have the horsepower to keep up with the gyro based EIS employed in the Pixel.
With that said, the Pixel's stabilization is so solid, it makes it impossible to do a slow pan... with the image jumping in huge steps as you pan the camera. If your steady, you can get nice slow pans from the 6P with EIS turned on.
Biting the bullet on a black XL at best buy. After having both in my the XL is far more one handed friendly than the 6P. I'm not sure my 40 year old eyes can go back to the smaller screen of the regular pixel. I had the LG G3 prior to the nexus so I've grown accustomed to the large screen. As much as my pocket likes the smaller device, they don't have it black either. Thanks for the help and opinions.
Well you can always increase the DPI and/or the Text Size if you wanted to use a smaller phone and still be able to see clearly everything from a far distance

Honestly if you like the phone you currently have and this applies to anybody not just Nexus 6p and really don't have thousand dollars to waste on another phone. I'd suggest against buying the pixel and stick to your phone for as long as you can. New devices will come out in another couple months. The pixels camera isn't all that big of a deal, the phone has its features, it's fast, the camera loads fast, the camera is good, the display is fantastic, the size is awesome, nugget 7.1 fantastic, assistant works well. But all in all, not much more than current models like the Nexus 6p and others realeased in this last year.
That's just my opinion. I've been wanting to replace my LG V10 so the pixel XL was a good option, just an expensive one. Mainly for Google support, user base of support, accessories Galore, fantastically beautiful screen comparable to wow any iphone samsumg user, Quick Camera loading, usb c PD Charging and other stuff.. Lol
I like the hype train the bandwagon and the recognition of having a pixel XL. Especially in Smurfy Blue!

I too felt the text size a tad bit small, being a 40+ yo, compared to my v10. But theres a setting in display, its default to small, which you can adjust. Then pixel xl screen is just so crisp and clear even with tiny letters and im coming from ips screen.

Yeah I really didn't need to spend more money, but once depixel8 was released, putting it on my vzw bill was a no brainier. I got a $400 offer for my Nexus, I got $100 best buy gift card, and a Chromecast from best buy....I'm really spending a little over 200 more for this device and I get to spread out the payments. I like it better than the Nexus. For sure I'm not getting another phone for 2 years.

Bleep yea, if you put it that way, id buy two. No brainer if its costing you almost nothing.
Forgot to mention one important very fundamental reason behind owning a pixel, and that is the XDA community. Autoprime chainfire jcase all the top names own one, just about every green named member has one..
I was the only person to own an lg v10... It was a lonely place..
I like this phone but I don't know if i like it enough to have it for 2 years. With the iphone 8 and the Samsung s8 or note 8 coming next year makes me want to wait. I don't like how it doesn't have wireless charging and it doesn't have the camera stabilizer for taking pics, also no water protection. So with the people that have this phone please tell me what you think of it. Thabks all.
Wait. You are setting yourself up for a disappointment with all that you see wrong with the device before even buying it. And the price will drive you nuts with those shortcomings you find objectionable.

Here's a suggestion - make up your own mind instead of relying on other people. Not everyone has to like the same things for the same reasons.
Come on guys, I think you're being unfair. All of us who have bought the phone ought to write a review every time somebody is thinking about buying one and can't be bothered to read the comments and reviews already posted here and on youtube.
Realistically every phone is going to have certain shortcomings, and to me the Pixel looks like first-generation hardware with a top-tier asking price. After seeing the Pixel, I decided to buy the iPhone 7. That's when I found out Apple doesn't provide anything like an LED or ambient display to indicate waiting notifications. That one issue is worth the cost of a return for me, but apparently it's also acceptable to the people that bought the billion previous iPhones. The Pixel checks a lot of items off my interest list, and it misses some. Like other phones available today and in the future, there are areas where the Pixel does and does not compare favorably with other options. Ultimately I think it cost me $35 to find out that an LED notification is more personally important than waterproofing, image stabilization, or wireless charging.
I've been with Android since the HTC Droid Eris. Things are advancing so rapidly now, it is worse that trying to buy an up to date PC back in the day...by the time you got home someone had the specs of your brand new toy beat. It seems even worse now with smartphones. I find myself getting ever closer to a phone that tick all my wants. However, when that starts happening, everybody will keep the phone they have for two years instead of getting a new one every year. That won't help the sales plateau smartphones seem to be in. Today you have to be prepared for the phone you buy today to be one tier behind in a very short time. Just the way it is.
I have to say my new Pixel is the best smartphone I have ever used and it is not even close. I retired an LG V10. The V10 is about as far behind the Pixel as the Galaxy S4 was behind the V10. No it is not perfect, but no other top tier phone today is perfect either. If the Pixel is judged to be too expensive, then so are the rest of the top tier brands.
I'd say get it. Be careful with it and return it if you have some issue.
I have read tons or reviews but here is the thing, those reviews are a lot of the time done by people that wrote for a living and not the average person that is going to use this phone. Most of the time they write these reviews because they get all new phones shipped to them for free and not the average person that gets a new phone once every 2 years. I guess in all, I know what the reviews say and the YouTube videos look like but I wanted to know what the average person says about the phone. Not the expert says about the phone. Thabks.

Youre gonna wait every 6 months... Pixel 2 next year..
Personally I hold out until the next phone I buy has significant upgrades..
I went from Nexus 4 to Nexus 6 to LG G4 to LG v10 (I fell for the 2nd screen gimmick, but it wasnt anything more over the G4), skipped LG G5, skipped Nexus 6p, considered One plus 3, but Pixel Xl filled a few of the most important boxes for me.
Hype, bandwagon, fantastic screen that turns iPhone/samsung owner's heads, accessories, accessories, super active community, fast, fast loading camera ready to take a picture, unlimited cloud, build quality, looks and balance.
I'm hoping assistant, gps and navigation will work well as I use them a lot and most phones have worked ok, but fail..
Im still waiting on my preorder....
I am happy with T-Mobile giving a 325 dollar credit for this phone, so it's totally worth it for me.

Yup it is missing those, but if these bother you then don't buy it because it is an expensive phone and if you are not 100% satisfied with what it is offering then yep wait for the next big thing.
For me currently this is the best phone out there satisfying all my needs and desires, and also it was time to replace my aging Nexus 5. Loving the pixel
I'm in a boat whether to buy this phone or not.. Between pixel, oneplus 3 or xiaomi mi note 2. Not sure how roms will be for the pixel, so will wait and see how that pans out and reviews for the MI note 2

Exactly what I thought, I almost purchased a 5x but decided to wait for the next nexus, didn't know that time that it was going to be a pixel, but yeah for me it is worth the upgrade. If i had purchased the 5x then I am pretty sure I would be in the same boat as you, lol for me even the freakin fingerprint scanner is an upgrade
To the op and others undecided. I think some have already covered it but I'll put in my $.02
I'm different than most that posted here. I like to buy/sell when new devices come out. There is no perfect phone for anyone. I also am not biased towards android or apple.
I have recently used moto x, moto x 2nd gen, htc m9, sony z3 compact, oneplus3, iphones 5s,6,6s,&7/7+
I'm currently using the oneplus 3, iphone 7, and just got the pixel yesterday.
All these phones have there advantages/disadvantages as previously mentioned.
There will always be something better around the corner. If you keep waiting, you'll be waiting forever. If you need a phone right now, best options in my opinion are the pixel, oneplus3, iphone 6s or 7, but that depends on your needs too. If you don't need a phone right now wait it out till you do.
Phones are somewhat similar to pcs right now. They are not really getting any faster for typical use, just better cameras typically and a few different options in the os.
The oneplus 3 imo is the best 5.5" android phone for the money. It's almost perfect for my needs but comes with some minor bugs and not the best speakers for music. $400, can't be beat by any phone and is the fastest android phone out i believe. It is faster than the pixel.
Pixel is a great phone. Fingerprint sensor location takes some getting used to. Android 7 and pixel launcher are nice but come with some bugs and lack of options. Phone can be laggy at times during normal use. Great deal if you get in on the t-mobile promo. I don't like the big top/bottom bezels but i can live with it. With future updates, this could be my new close to perfect phone.
IPhone 7 is nice but overhyped. Iphone 6s is just as good. Iphone 7 speakers and camera slightly better, maybe slightly faster but nothing like Apple claims.
You need to decide what you really want then pick the phone that best fits for the price you want yo pay.
If you want a cheap avg android phone, go with the oneplus 3. It's a great price and competes with the high end phones extremely well. Otherwise pony up. There are limited choices for a decent priced phone anymore and definitely typically come with drawbacks that I'm not willing to sacrifice.
Best of luck
I currently have the Samsung s7. I'm on Verizon. I ordered a pixel from Google because with the financing you can pay it off early. On Verizon Device payment plan you have to pay monthly or just pay the entire phone off at once.
I've been reading reviews and got impatient and ordered the phone from Verizon. I saw were you could get 20% off with the Save20 code but it didn't work for me because of my corporate discount. However, Verizon is giving trade in value for any phone. If I traded in my S7 I could get $300 but I want to keep it in case I don't like the pixel.
What I did was buy an iPhone 4 from ebay for $30. Verizon gave me a $200 credit for that phone and I ordered the 128gb pixel. So I got that phone for 750-200+30=$580. I think I paid $650 for my Nexus 6P 64gb last year.
Options that Verizon and tmobile offer make it a no brainer to get this phone. I think if Google had released this phone to all carriers or when they do you will have many people buying and loving this phone. That is the problem. Not what the phone is missing it's because people don't want to pull the trigger because of the price.

I'm am average user but love pure android and had nearly all the Nexus phones and coming from the 6p to the pixel, have to say love it. I just picked up an Essential to replace an HTC 10. For me, I was looking at used Pixel XL's (128GB) and new Essential Phone since they're around the same pricepoint.
What came down to it for me was the Snapdragon 835, new/fresh battery, and probably less warranty issues with a brand new phone.
I have a Nexus 6p and I bought an Essential phone and I'm selling the Essential because the camera quality was poorer (even with g cam trying optimizing it, pictures have a slight yellow hue and the picture is a little bit less sharp, while the Nexus 6p often have the best colors right off the bat) and the passage from AMOLED back to LCD was meh. Plus you gonna still have the update faster if you stick to the Pixel. But the build quality is fantastic.

I sold my pixel for the essential.
The pixel camera app is much quicker and more reliable than essentials. As far as picture quality goes, indoors, when trying to capture more fine details the Pixel camera definitely wins. In good lighting and outdoors I can't tell a difference between the 2.
In terms of everything else the essential is better. Build quality and materials are better. More storage for less money. Performance is better on the essential. The essential is easier to tote around and use one handed because the bezels are smaller. If it wasn't for essential taking so long to improve the camera app then I would say it is the best smartphone experience I have had. And I have had a lot. Like over 20 easily.
Also I went through 6 pixels. The first one had paint chipping issues like nothing I have ever seen. The second one had a faulty speaker. The third one had radio issues. The 4th had fast charge issues. The 5th had issues with overheating to the point where I couldn't hold the device. And I am not a heavy user. And the 6th I sold as soon as it came in.

The original. I thought about getting the Pixel 2 but the high price and screen issues keeps me away. If a phone cost nearly $1000 it better be perfect.
I think I ended up with the Essential Phone partly by choice and partly by accident. I'm a Sprint customer. My old Galaxy S5 was broken, I needed a phone that was cheap, as up to date as possible, and available NOW. That was early September. The PH-1 was by far the cheapest option for me to buy through Sprint.
There's a lot to love and a lot to hate. The camera app has gotten better but won't be winning any awards pretty much ever. That said, it's decent. The phone's form factor is small, which means it can fit into a pocket where a Pixel XL won't. As a longtime Samsung owner I love the pure android ability to get rid of bloat, but I'm used to a much more reliable experience and a much better looking screen. I love the huge screen on a tiny phone, but LCD is just so pedestrian at this point. I was always running out of internal space on my Samsung, so it's awesome to have 128GB internal. It's annoying that SD card support and phone jack weren't included. It's probably the best looking phone out there right now, which is kinda cool. Sadly, it's very buggy. It loses connection with my android watch and I've had to completely wipe and reconnect it a few times already. There is no "press the _____ button" to activate Google Assistant" option (as least not that I know of) which is a bit of a downer. Voice recognition is super buggy. The phone says it's listening, but you have to wait of few seconds because it will miss the first few words you say. It also takes about 5 words voice-to-text, then just simply stops taking/writing anymore words. You have to cancel and hit the microphone icon again to get it another 5 words , wash rinse repeat. The touchscreen tends to be unresponsive. It's gotten a bit better since the last patch, but it's still not great. It would have been nice if the fingerprint scanner doubled as a home button like LG does. Finding a case for the Essential Phone was a nightmare, but they're pretty easy to find now. The phone SHOULD BE one of the fastest phones on the market, but instead it's laggy. And one of the biggest reasons to get the Essential Phone -- clip on modules -- is kindof a nothingburger at this point. Honestly, I wish I could have held out for an LG V30+, but it wasn't out yet.
i'm also hesitating...
Just to chime in I got this coming from the pixel, not XL. I really like this phone, especially on the 8.1 beta. Its a great little handset, feels awesome, much better battery than anything Google has, and very snappy. I also had wicked issues flashing anything on my pixel. No trouble so far with the essential for me.

Despite all the negative press, the pictures aren't bad. Their not as good as the pixel, true, but I don't use a phone as my main source for high quality pictures. I know many folks do simply because they always have their phone on them. The bottom line is, no one is going to look at a picture you took with this phone and think, "ew, did your 5-year old draw that?" It works just fine.
I heard about this phone early this year did some research and decided to buy it from Amazon on Jan 24th. I came from a Galaxy S6 and it was a good phone (battery was getting bad) but this phone is head and shoulders better! Especially now that we are running the Oreo B8.1! It is super stable and smooth much more than my old Galaxy S6. I was thinking of trying the Oneplus 5t or maybe the new Huawei Mate 10 pro but I am not sure I will be any happier. Never had the Pixel or 2 If they looked this good I'd buy tomorrow!
