Changing the IMEI is illegal in most countries and therefore the discussion thereof is strictly prohibited on XDA.

I got in an argument with Orange about the charges they applied to my account and it resulted in them blocking my phone. Well, i assume its blocked as it just says no service 24/7
If i unlock the mobile and use a O2 sim will it work?

Most likely, they have your IMEI number blocked. If that is the case, then I'm afraid you are SOL, as no amount of software modding, ROM flashing, SIM unlocking, or security releasing you could do will change the IMEI number of your device. If that happened to me, I would change carriers.

Hi, thanks for your reply.
Dam, i can't change carriers can i? Because you said they have most likely blocked my IMEI completely. I have read up IMEI changing and i realise that it is bordering on illegal but is there anyway this can be done?
If not, my phone is basically useless so should be binned?

Changing the IMEI of your device is generally regarded as illegal and is not allowed to be discussed on XDA. Your other, legal, option is to change carriers.

I couldn't tell you how to do so, since I'm not a WP7 user, but yes. When you SIM unlock a device, you can then take it to any carrier and pop their SIM in to use it. I'm also not saying that it's impossible to change the IMEI number, but you just can't discuss it here on this site.
Good afternoon!
I looked at other post before creating this, I have a Razr D1 fo the IMEI blocked, tried a few methods I found on the forum and could not, have some other specific method to change the IMEI of the same?
Isn't changing your IMEI illegal?
And your IMEI is blocked, have you stolen your phone or something?

If your phone have a blacklisted IMEI its either because:
a) Reported lost/stolen
b) Unpaid bills
Which in both situations means that you do not own the phone
Asking help for changing IMEI # is the same as asking help to change a car VIN #
Could someone help me change the VIN number of this stolen/unpaid car so I can use it?
Does it sound legit? Changing IMEI is illegal in some countries and afaik it is in USA and UK so better to check the law in your country first.
Btw, Im not trying to say that you have stolen that phone.
Thread closed. Changing the IMEI is illegal and had you followed the rules you would know that no talks about it are allowed here.

The issue is likely because he has one of those IMEI's that is tied to a specific carrier that the carrier doesn't want to turn loose. (For example, my S7 has an IMEI that is tied to VZW due to it being a device that was sold ONLY by VZW in the US - and as a lot of us have pointed out, an IMEI is unique to the specific phone; you have more control over a phone number than you do your handset's IMEI - and a locked IMEI will not accept a ported number. I can't take my locked IMEI (handset) to Tracfone, even though the handset is otherwise compatible with the VZW side of Tracfone's network (in fact, when it was in service, it was a VZW handset) because VZW has the IMEI on lockdown.

Hi
I am not judging , I am not even saying if you should or not .... I am saying is ilegal to change the Imei number of your phone whatever the reason maybe.
ALWAYS backup your EFS folder, no matter what phone u have., and then save it on ur PC.

Changing IMEI discussion is not allowed on XDA, even if it's not for bad intentions, we do not allow "things which will obviously lead to legal trouble":
9. Don't get us into trouble.
Don't post copyrighted materials or do other things which will obviously lead to legal trouble. If you wouldn't do it on your own homepage, you probably shouldn't do it here either. This does not mean that we agree with everything that the software piracy lobby try to impose on us. It simply means that you cannot break any laws here, since we'll end up dealing with the legal hassle caused by you. Please use common sense: respect the forum, its users and those that write great code.

Let's start from the beginning, why do you want to change it? There isn't any advantage to changing an imei, just a lot of disadvantages..

This will open you to problems. A phone from another country might be using some signal bands which aren't used in your country. That phone would be unusable in your country with your data sim.

Change/edit of IMEI is illegal in quite a lot of countries. As such, we don't allow support or discussions of IMEI changes or edits on XDA. Don't bring this website into trouble.
