Root is required. Make a Nandroid backup! (I accidentally deleted by build.prop file and bootlooped my phone)
1) Download ES File Explorer (Or any other root file editor)
2) In ES File Explorer, go into Setting > Root Settings and enable both check boxes
3) Navigate to /system/ and copy/paste build.prop to /sdcard/ (just in case)
4) Open & edit /system/build.prop
5) Change the following lines to make your phone think it is a HTC G2:
ro.product.model=HTC Vision
ro.product.manufacturer=HTC
OR
ro.product.model=Nexus S
ro.product.manufacturer=samsung
6) Reboot the phone
7) Install the netflix apk (if you haven't already)
8) Enjoy
HELP!
I've run into a problem with this. My phone has gone into bootloop.
Is there a way to copy the build.prop I backed up on my sdcard to the /system/build.prop without booting the phone,... I.E. from the cyanogen recovery mode?

I have the same issue right now but I don't have Cyanogen Rec Mode. I just have the ENG Bootloader and that's it.
Same issue with Samsung Fascinate
Anyone have any ideas how to copy back a build.prop if the phone is stuck in a boot loop? Adb won't work as it doesn't get far enough in boot to connect and it won't connect in recovery mode. As I can get into recovery, I may be able to flash a rom but that would be a worse case scenario.

I haven't yet tried ADB but since you've already answered my question then I guess we're stuck and must upload a stock rom and run it. I will try it once I get home but for now any new info would help. Sucks not having a phone at all
Can you not boot into recovery, mount system and use adb shell to copy the file from the SDCard?

No sir. I cannot do such procedure. I'm trying to load the update.zip without wiping all my info out. I can go into recovery but cannot mount. I cannot use ADB it says error device offline.

Thanks. I forgot to mount system. I'm back up and running now. Using clockwork recovery, I mounted system and then adb was able to connect. I then used "adb push build.prop /system/" to move a corrected copy from my pc to the phone (I had originally used an on-phone editer that reformated the file and caused the issue). Rebooted phone and it booted. Netflix still doesn't work, (I changed the ro.product.model=Nexus S & ro.product.manufacturer=Samsung) but at least my phone is back.
FYI Update: I changed my build.prop to ro.product.model=HTC Vision & ro.product.manufacturer=HTC and now no longer get the unsuported message but Netflix now closes after log-in. I guess this was all for nothing for me.
Having problems with captivate
ES explorer wont work, so I had to buy different one. Changed it to Nexus S, rebooted, opened netflix, get an error message saying my device is not supported. Please help.

Any suggestions? Thanks

add this to the end of your build.prop
Code:

Can someone help me out with the Multi-view hack to add all apps?...I just used the editing method for adding all apps to the multi-view window. All the steps went fine, but now that I'm done I can't get Multi-view to work AT ALL! I enabled it, held the back button down over and over and it does absolutley NOTHING. I am on stock 4.1.1, rooted with unlocked bootloader and I have a nandroid backup that I made just before attempting this, but since everything else on my Note 2 is still working I'm waiting and hoping that someone out there knows what's going on and has a fix for it.
Here are the steps that I took:
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1. Download modified odex file (multiwindow.zip) by hairdewx (mirror), and extract services.odex FlashBarService.odex files. After that copy both files into your device.
2. Get file manager app that can open the system apps, such as ES File Explorer or Root Explorer that can be found on Play Store.
3. Mount the system partition as Read/Write (R/W).Mount to R/W and Replace Files
4. Copy and replace “FlashBarService.odex” to “/system/app” folder, as well as “services.odex” to “/system/framework” folder. If you have difficulty to replace services.odex, reboot your device. In case you experiencing bootloop after replacing services.odex, then you need to pull out and reinsert the battery, if the bootloops remains, just flash the root image with ODIN to fix it.
5. Reboot your Galaxy Note II.
6. Open the file manager again, delete “com.sec.android.app.FlashBarService” from “/data/data” folder, then reboot once again.
7. (Optional) Open “/data/data” folder again, if you find the “/flashbar” folder, just delete it.
Now you should have been able to add any apps to the Multi Window bars on Verizon Galaxy Note 2, and also run two applications at the same time (MultiView). If you can’t find an edit button, it’s likely that you on 240 DPI, just switching back to 320 DPI, edit button will reappears.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
That's it. I did all of these steps with no problems but as mentioned, now I can't get Multiview to work at all. I have tried restarting several times and also did a battery pull but no luck. Please HELP!
Edited...PROBLEM SOLVED AFTER FACTORY DATA RESET. Thanks.
Hi all,
I have a Galaxy Note 2 (N7100) with stock ROM (4.1.2) and root access.
I need to modify the file in "Title" to change permissions on device /video0.
I tried to modify it on Pc and then pull it with adb but the system doesn't permit it. So I try to modify it with text editor installed on phone and it says I don't have the permission.
Is it possible to flash it with CWM? If yes, I had to compress it in zip format?
Thanks so much in advance.
Bye
[Solved]
I found the solution.
- change the permissions with chmod 755;
- edit file with busybox vi.
thanks anyway.
I've been trying to modify my build.prop to enable carrier billing on my T-mobile One S with Zen Rom 1.05, but every time I reboot it reverts back to the one that came stock with the rom. I'm mounting R/W and I've copied the file onto my SD card after editing it to be sure it was actually saving. The copied file shows all of the changes, so I'm sure it is, but as soon as I reboot, the one in \system reverts. I've tried build.prop editors from the market, and editing it from root explorer's text editor, and it's all the same. Any ideas?
Thanks!
I tried to install system UI tuner on rooted lenovo A 5000 ,it was not compatible with my android version.
Any way i tried to edit build.prop using build prop editor app on play store the modification gone successfully(I changed android number from 5.0.2 to 7.0-and SDK version from 21 to 29),then i rebooted my phone for the modification to take effect,after the phone booted most apps stopped working-including the build prop editor app- i tried to reverse my actions by changing numbers to the previous state by using ES file explorer in the root explorer but the text editor also stopped working .then the last try to fix my phone was by using ADB on linux i used the terminal to pull system/build.prop to my PC then editing it by the text editor manually ,then i copied the file to my phone then i opened ES again and moved the file to system/build.prop and it deleted the file and replaced it then i rebooted the phone then it did not stop the boot animation then i knew that my phone had a bootloop
please help me find a solution,How i can reverse everything or shall i install a custom rom or anyone has any other idea.
NOTE : All lines inside the file were like that :"something = x" except one line which was "something = " only .
