Can somebody help me JTAG a Galaxy Note 3 in Stockholm, Sweden? Or recommend anybody? - General Questions and Answers

Apparently I need to go to a service to get my EFS files back. I downgraded a ROM and that caused me to lose my IMEI & baseband. Unfortunately I was not aware that TWRP does NOT back these up , despite it claiming to backup EFS. Anybody able to help me with this? Do you know anybody trustworthy that can help me with this in the Stockholm area of Sweden?
I'm sitting with a half-bricked phone on my table. I'm sure some of you have felt this "suckiness". I've had a pretty challenging past 24 hours. Any help is MUCH appreciated!

Have you tried restoring to what you had before you downgraded? Sometimes this restores the IMEI.

Yeah . It didn't work. I still get an empty folder. It's so frustrating because I thought TWRP does a full backup. I have all the partitions imaged, including efs, but apparently that's not REALLY the efs. Very annoying.
It's sad that none of the ROMs I read install instructions about (and I used at least 5 different ROMs during the past 4 years) said anything about backing up the efs as a step to be done immediately after rooting. This is obviously a super important step since it ends up in the user half-bricking the phone, needing to go to a shop to fix it. So here I am, with a broken phone on my table .

Well, there are methods of rewriting your IMEI with the original IMEI you had if you know that IMEI, is it on the sticker behind the battery?
Unfortunately, discussion of the methods to rewrite IMEI are not permitted at XDA but it can be done. I wish I could help you with specific information but I'd have to break the rules to help you.

Holy macaroni! You're right. I *DO* have the IMEI written there! I suppose such procedures could be used by thieves, which is why it's forbidden in the rules? Thing is, I have the original box of the phone along with the original back (I replaced it with a wallet cover) and I've been listed with this phone on Google Play for 2 years now . I think I have the invoice somewhere too, gotta do some digs for that .
I did find a thread on SAMMOBILE by one "mobilecrackers" that deals with this issue. There's some nv_data.bin file that is required apparently. Pretty confusing instructions though. I'm a bit scared to go into this, especially since he warns it's "illegal". *sigh* decisions decisions. Thing is, in Stockholm prices are ultra-high that is if I can even FIND a service I can trust.
Thank you for putting me one more step ahead. Maybe I should actually contact a phone thief to get this fixed, LOL .

There are professionals that can do it for you, I mean legitimate official professionals, some can even team view to your PC with the device connected to your PC and they can do it from where they are through your PC.

Can't Open Contacts with **ANY** WM6 ROM, G4 CIDLOCKED SIMUNLOCKED

So far I've tried 3 different ROMs on 3 different computers with a million different "paranoia" tricks like unplugging ethernet, etc, and with every flash everything (with a few minor exceptions here and there) is fine but I can't open my contacts. It opens for a brief moment then goes back to wherever I launched it from.
Using shelltools to flash the ROM after loading up either wizardlove or the OEM tmobile ROM.
I can't believe I can't find anyone else with this problem after all the searching I've done, considering the consistency with which it afflicts my flashes...
If anyone can assist I would love to have a ****ing rom other than Tmobiles ghetto pink and grey asthetic catastrophe!
Have you tried Cid unlocking your phone then trying agian?
Trying to avoid that at any cost, because I have a G4 phone.
I would have to a) pay $40US, and b) send that shady site a copy of my drivers license/phone bill/etc to prove my identity since they claim that they have been bombarded with paypal scammers despite the fact that pre-verifying customers is the ****ing POINT of paypal.
I don't trust them.

They seriously ask for all of that information? I agree that that is kinda shady. Well as much as I hate to say it, you may just have to wait untill a free method of CID unlocking becomes available. From what I understand, they aren't very far from getting it figured out so it shouldn't take too much longer.
go to the file explorer\my device and rename the PIM file to anything. then soft reset. the device will automatically make a new one and voila contacts

Can you please elaborate what this means
So now that this device is official (Vitality), any chance to get some "root love"?
Well since metropcs and this phone is the same, most likely the root metro has will root it.
You can find it here. http://androidforums.com/admire-all...e-sch-r720-windows-mac-linux-9-12-2011-a.html
Tried that

Thanks, tried it, didn't work
Rooting Huh?
Well after spending a second day trying to solve my problem I had superuser on my phone well someone elses phone, but something went wrong so I am throwing in the towel before I have to by someone a phone because this is how I got myself into this I tried to help someone get more business turns out the guy is a loser so I am stuck with having to give someone some free technical features, but rooting wont be one of them, I am going to figure some other ways to spice the phone of for them I just really don't have the time nor the patience with all the reading and materials and the drivers that won't run on my system some of this is a headache for people who are not that good with this sort of machinery.
And I have found that there are so many who say there good but when it comes down to it, I have had two bad experiences this is why I was trying to show some people some new ways to have there phones done, but I realize a few things I am not helping people out no more fu*k'em I got my phone done and complete and I am tired of helping others out and just about everyone who I went to meet up with in Philadelphia and this other guy who answers and gets back to you when he's ready this phone thing is a little much, like you guys say if you don't have the experience then leave it alone.
Because I have to return this phone to someone tomorrow but I thought I was bringing in some business for people but I know now some people just want to stay living at home with mother. So good luck watching Jerry all your life. Anyone
who has someone who can refer me to a real flasher or tech person no more people in the state of Pennsylvania all of them have been crooks. Sorry S. Bonner but you are hitting the #2 on the list. But anyway I need to get in touch with someone who will get paid as long as the job is done 100% and I am talking remote flashing nothing more and rooting. Remember if you live in the State of Pennsylvania don't bother me I want people who want to work.

General tips to avoid destroying a rooted phone

I recently rooted and even though I did a ton of research, I destroyed my phone. So here are some tips to avoid turning your phone into a paper weight.
First thing you should do after rooting is create a backup. If I had done this I would still have a phone. To do this boot into recovery (look up how to do this for your phone) and go to backup, create backup.
DO NOT: Trust titaniumbackup to backup system apps or preinstalled apps. IT WILL NOT WORK.
DO NOT: Randomly uninstall system apps even if you do not use them. Many system apps are used for other applications or are required to run in order for the phone to work properly. Some system apps can be installed, but just research it before you uninstall. I found, the hard way, that it is safer to flash a new rom to get more space than to uninstall things that might be important.
If you flash a ROM and have issues with connectivity, internet, sms, etc., it might be because you have a CDMA phone and the ROM is meant for a GSM phone or vice versa. If you look at the back of your phone and you have an MEID number, you have a CDMA phone. If you have an IMEI number you have a GSM phone. If you think this might be your problem go to settings/about phone/phone identity and see if it tells you a IMEI number or an MEID number and see if it matches the number on the back of your phone.
I hope this helps. Feel free to ask me questions and I will try to answer although I am still somewhat new to all of this. If I helped be sure to click thanks.
Thank you Captain Obvious.

I'm sorry if I offended your far superior android abilities with this simple post meant for much less intelligent users like myself, but can I ask you why you are reading a post titled general tips if your expertise extend beyond anything general?
Also if a brilliant "expert" like yourself would have posted a thread like this before, in all likelihood I would not be in the position I am now.
I suggest you get off your high horse and start being a little more accommodating to people who are just learning this stuff.
Thanks for the input. Thanks for helping out us new folks.

So no one ever told you to only flash ROM's made for your phone? And you cant brick your phone by deleting system apps...you get force closes, go to recovery, reflash, good to go.

[Q] Hard Bricked Samsung Galaxy Note i717 ATT

Hi everyone,
I would like to clear out some points before posting my issue.
1-I have been reading hard brick threads on this device in this forum for 3 days, I am posting my question because I want to get clear answers on what my options are at this point. I have not seen not even 1 solution via Jig, which seems to be the easiest method.
2- The reason I bricked my phone is [most likely] I flashed a kernel that was intended for the N7000 model, although this might not make sense to some of you , for the sake of getting proper help, please hold back on comments that point out how much of a non skilled fan I am and how could I have got caught on such an obvious mistake. Comments like the ones I am describing just wont help so please you might as well keep them to yourselves.
3- Please do not take me as a pedantic person, I just happened to have read enough answers to know that there are highly skilled people who want to help others while some others just love to spend their free time spamming threads. I certainly do not have enough knowledge and skills to perform the jtag method since I cant even solder.
I was trying the JellyBeer rom and I flashed their kernel on TeamWin Recovery, what I do not understand is why did it brick, because I actually realized my mistake soon enough and I performed a restore to my previous rom/kernel, to my understanding, this brick should not have happened in the first place. But when I went ahead and rebooted the phone, it just turned off in the middle of rebooting never to turn on again. Its dead, it wouldnt even charge nor go into download mode or recovery, no vibration no nothing...
Returning the phone to the store is not an option for me as I brought this phone from the states to my country (Dominican Republic ) and is out of warranty.
To me it almost means that I dont have no choice but to keep using my sisters pink motorola that btw is like 10 yrs old until I can wait till some day to have that kind of money again and get a new one. I am leaving the final answer to the experts in this forum.
..If you actually read the whole thing I must thank you, because I know its waaay to long. Counting on you guys.

Hello,
Thanks for using XDA Assist.
Which device do you own?
___
v7
XDA Assist
Unlock telephone
Thanks for your prompt answer. I actually did not expect to receive any answer at all! I have a Samsung GT-S3501 and somehow I have now managed to root it. I am new to this forum and I have never tried to manipulate any celh pone before. I have a background as a programmer though so I wanted to see if there is any possibility to unlock my old cell phone. It is a simple, cheap model so paying for it is not an option. The question is whether it is worth keeping at all. I used the UnlockClient to unlock it but the processing stopped after telling me that the root access worked. I have not understood whether I need to pay anything in order to make it finish but I guess this is out of your area though. (unlockclient.co/) Please for your help anyway. I have also used, the one by you described, ADB shell technique and I get access but the BML5 file is not found, maybe because my model is so simple since it doesn´t even have an SD-card. I was surprised myself since i thought it had. An older similar telehone I have do have one. I wonder if there is a way to display the telephons directory after having got SU access. Do you know this? Then I might see if there is a BML5 or not and which path it has. I am new to this so you might think I am stupid a puts strange questions but I am curious and persistant and I want to learn something, especially now when I have already spent too much time when my first intntion only was to save some money. But then it caught my interest and i did not want to give up. :silly: :fingers-crossed:
