I used to be really into all the rooting and flashing. Well the bug has hit again. I have the tmobile variant and have read a couple users stating international Roms can be flashed onto this model. So my question is if it is only certain Roms, or all international Roms? Currently running stock rooted just curious to know if there are other options before I flash everything in our section. Thanks for any and all help you guys can provide.

I run battlehero's extreme debloated, what to flash is in his thread as well. Consisted of ROM, stock rooted T-Mobile kernel from jovy23, audio fix by... I hate to not give credit where due but I am not sure who actually came up with it first as it can be found in several threads.

Hello Everyone,
I am a new Android User, switched from Blackberry (had to use it for work for many reasons, employer requirement) . i have searched the forum for possible existing answer, could not find any.
i have just bought G2 At&t (D800) version from a previous owner, and it is unlocked by the previous owner. i have already rooted my device with custom recovery, it is Stock ROM 4.2.2 and software version 10o
my main two questions,
Q1 : if i flashed and upgraded to 4.4.2 using either D80220a - KOT49I or recovery friendly D80020c method, will that lock my unlocked phone? (i am using it on tmobile)
Q2 : is there is a significant difference between using D8022a and D80010d boot loader mentioned in kk upgrades candidates.
p.s. Since i am a new android user, but with enough backgrounds to be a developer. i will be starting to work on porting M8 sense 6 and contribute To the LG G2 Community. finally have jumped into the bandwagon hahaha. took me a long time lol ..
cheers
Right now there are many unforseen problems with updating g2 so stay away as long as you can

I don't mind taking risks, my only main concern, will upgrading to stock based kitkat ROM and firmware lock my GSM again and be usable with AT&T ONLY. that is my main concern in the first question.
i know for a fact, that firmware originally is installed by the service provider and is separate from the locking mechanism. Most phones can be unbranded by reflashing a different firmware version. however, i am seeking reassurance from experts to confirm such knowledge
thank you

If you are gonna flash kk I suggest you first downgrade to 10d and use Gary's method or upgrade via tot and then root/install custom recovery but I cannot assure that it will remained unlock as I have not encountered many people who unlock and flash custom roms

I see, i guess i will take the risk and re-update here. but will it matter a lot in term of FUNCTIONALITY. using international (AndroidUser00110001- power user edition) vs garyd9 method, excluding the removal of bloatware.

Well using androiduser's Rom is nice because of less bloat plus no ciq but I myself would not flash a Rom that changes the model number from d800 to d802 just because if it soft bricks it will be harder to restore via flash tool, which is why I opted and am a current user of Gary's Rom but I debloated it

If you have bricked one beyond fixing and can't get it replaced, please consider donating it rather than throwing it in a desk drawer, shooting it, or whatever other crazy idea comes to mind. I can almost always put a bricked phone to good use.
Anyone who would like to use fastboot/adb for this device please use the following version fastboot/adb. It's HTC's own version. It works on pc's with less ram and it automatically breaks up a single zip into pieces for transfer. It also reflashes automatically if needed.

I managed to figure out the firmware largely due to dottat. There were multiple threads of various age, some with seemingly conflicting advice. This goes for most device forums I follow. There was no authoritative resource, IMO, until this thread.
The search feature was key, I am pretty thorough before embarking in firmware upgrades.

Your OP does contain the required information and instructions, so I can't really complain. One thing that could be helpful is to list the bootloader version info for each firmware release. You listed the most recent one right at the top of the thread, so at least it is easy to tell whether a given device is on the latest firmware or not. Because your thread is the main firmware thread, perhaps it would be best if the OP were organized into sections for 4.4.2, 4.4.3, and 4.4.4. It could be clarified which partitions are modified in the process, and whether the radios are affected. Install instructions could be put in their own spot.
These are only ideas! Also, your thread should probably be stickied. Thanks for all you do.

Firmware flash
Hello everyone. I am new to this Forum. I've only been here a few days. I have an Unlocked/S-Off Verizon HTC One M8 that I recently purchased from Ebay. I had a little trouble for a while when I first got it as it was running 4.4.2 and I took the OTA update to 4.4.3 and it messed up the phone. I didn't know it was Unlocked/S-Off'd. And the seller said it wasn't rooted any more. Well so now that I know it is even after running the Verizon RUU, I was wondering if I need to upgrade the firmware one upgrade at a time (meaning 4.4.3 and then 4.4.4)? Or can I jump to a 5.01 Lollipop ROM? I have TWRP installed and I used Flashify to install it. I'm hoping to use Flashify more for installing zips. Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you....oh and I'm loving this M8!!!!

Rom and firmware are to separate things. You can flash straight to 4.4.4 firmware and then flash a lollipop Rom or any custom Rom.

Hello dottat. Thank you for replying to my question(s). Yes I know that a ROM is different than firmware. I was just wondering if I had to upgrade my firmware one update at a time or if I could just jump from 4.4.2 to say 5.0 or 5.01 so that if I wanted to I could put a custom ROM on my M8. I'm not actually sure how high the firmware upgrades go. I've only seen 4.4.4 as the highest so far.

update process on factory unlocked VZW M8 used with GSM
Hi!
I am getting a verizon factory unlocked model and i am going to use it on a GSM network in india.Since its factory unlocked there should be no issues with the network. .however i had some doubts about the software updates. .so will i be able to receive and install updates normally without resorting to rooting the phone. .some people reported that they had an issue installing the update where it said that they have to be on CDMA or something like that. .Will i be able to overcome such issues by connecting to wifi?Is someone could shed a little light on how the update process works when used abroad with a GSM carrier it would be great!Thank you so much in advance!

You will always be able to install the s-on ruu from here. The problem is that the latter versions of software while sim unlocked have proven very difficult to use on some carriers because you can no longer edit apn. You have to chose from pre-provided apn and thats only if they show up with your SIM card inserted.
You would be really wise to s-off the phone even if you don't root it as this would be the only way to downgrade if you ended up not having a workable situation on the newer software.
Good morning everyone. I have tried looking through both these forums as well as a google search and can't seem to find an answer.
So my phone is rooted/s off custom Rom etc. My phone originally was a vzw phone used with Verizon as my service provider. I've since switched carriers and am using my phone with cricket being my service provider. Everything works, and works ok. I've been running a venom Rom and truly do love the Rom. But with lollipop being out there, it is time to upgrade. my phone says I'm running 4.4.2. Everything I've read seems that I have to upgrade my firmware as well, which is based off of the build number if I'm correct in what I read. my question I guess is do I continue to use Verizon based roms etc or do I use any variant of it. I guess I'm just seeking some what of a direction to head in. I apologize in advance if it's a stupid question. I've attached a copy of my build number in case that helps. Thank you so much, not only for your time, but any help available. Have a great day everyone

Hi All,
Just wondering if there are any custom ROMS here on XDA that can be flashed to the 920W (Canadian) version of the S6?
It's been a while since I've had a "regional" type device (Going all the way back to my S3) as usually I opt for the International version of devices.
That being said, I don't recall how careful I have to be when flashing a ROM that may have been made for a different regional version device.
Also... What is the best way to root the S6? I've heard lots about PING-PONG and how it won't trip KNOX but any advice is appreciated!
Thanks in advance from a Senior Member who feels like a NOOB all over again... lol...
Thanks,
PS... If I've posted in the wrong place please accept my apology... ☺
You're a senior member with almost two thousand posts and you still managed to ask your question in the wrong section...
T-Mobile ROMs can be flashed without the need for the audio fix, the same applies to AT&T ROMs.
Thanks to a few developers in the TMO section, you can now flash International ROMs along with a specific few kernels, or any kernel of your choice and a flashable patch for the call audio fix.
Lol... Ya I know but to be fair I did post in the Q&A section with no answers at all so I thought I'd try here... ? Thanks for the info...
Questions belong in Q&A.
Thank you.
So If I understand right, I can flash any at&t or t-mobiles roms for my g920w model?
As we all know it was made for Verizon. I hate being on stock with prepaid of Verizon. The only custom rom I found that is touchwiz based, on 4.4 and for Verizon was superliterom. So what I'm trying to do is use superliterom by flashing it through safestrap 4.0. Now I have the nf5 module that was provided by the person who made superliterom and flashing the module made my Wi-Fi work just I've noticed some bugs. The boot animations never work. It's just a black screen. I keep getting that the system isn't responding and prompts to force close. Also I've noticed that it don't bring the on screen keyboard up even though it says it's installed. And the back, home, or menu keys don't work. So that being said, any idea how I can possibly rebuild the rom that's originally made for Verizon to be able to use on the prepaid side known as nf5 firmware that's 4.4.2. I really just am tired of stock and really need a custom one. Just one at least. If a dev could pick up on this an rebuild it for the prepaid side or make a custom one for prepaid would be greatly appreciated
Any help anyone? I know this phone is old but I can't give up on it
