My wife messaged me on Facebook while I was at work and said her phone wouldn't send the text message to me, just kept spinning and said sending, and the battery was draining fast and died on her.
I got home from work and was messing with it and it's hot. Like, if I've been playing a game for a while on my S7 Edge it feels similar to that...and that was with the phone doing nothing but looking at settings.
First thing I noticed was Lookout kept cycling the same "Oculus is safe" message even after I cleared it. It would pop up like 10 seconds after clearing it. Thought maybe it was glitching so I force stopped and disabled Lookout. Didn't help.
Went into bootloader and cleared cache. Didn't help.
If I try doing an update search, it literally takes like 2 minutes to load. Like, I click check for update and nothing happens. Close everything to the home screen and all of a sudden it pops up and starts checking for an update. Scrolling through settings is noticeably laggy.
Not sure what else to check. I thought maybe she clicked power saver or something by mistake but no settings look out of place.
Any ideas?
Thank you.
exact same thing my s7 is doing... hopefully someone figures it out...

I have the exact same problem. I noticed it was after I did the System Update from AT+T yesterday. It seems that the Android System is now using 35% of my battery. My phone is very warm and the battery doesn't last but a few hours.
Same here. Rapid drain after September AT&T update. "slow" wall charger cannot charge the phone even with the screen off.
Same Problem here in Switzerland... yesterday came a Update for the Oculus and the Guy in this Forum solved it with froze the Oculus Apps
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s7/help/galaxy-s7-running-hot-t3468477
Someone on the S7 Edge forums said he updated the Oculus app and it solved the problem for him.

I'm not sure then. I have a G935F running a custom ROM so I don't have the issue. I just read his thread, because my wife has a G935T and I thought it might be helpful if she ends up with the same issue. Just wanted to pass on what his solution was. Hope you all get it figured out soon.
Remove Oculus Rooms until they send out a hotfix update

I was about to remove Occulus when I received an occulus update, about one hour ago, and it seems that the problem is fixed. The battery looks ok, and the phone is not hot any more. I'm waiting a little bit more to be sure...

Same. My phone has always gotten hot when it's struggling to find a good signal, but now it randomly heats up (up to 45C). Started happening after this newest security patch.
Also sometimes when I reboot, I'm getting the teal color screen that says initializing apps. The same screen that comes up during a regular update.

Got the G2x Wednesday, set up and I would say 95% good out of the box, let the battery drain, factory reset, factory reset, factory reset (kinda like Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice ), kept my hands off while if fully charged, went all the way thru setup....
Little to no backlight bleed, fast speedy, did have the strangeness of it filpping between Wifi and 4G.. couple of reboots and freezes.. one strange battery drain...nothing systemic, just random..
Friday afternoon I said to heck with it, rooted (1-Click) and froze the T-Mobile AppPack, WiFi Calling and ONE of the two My Accounts (froze the 1.0 that was in it, left the 5.04 it updated from the market with), used AdFree to stop the annoying ads...
AND SMOOTH AS SILK, Since hen solid, no reboots, no freezes, no battery pulls... been using it heavy ever since Friday and loving it...
.. but this morning I notice I have a stuck white pixel on the bottom edge of the screen... NOT visible on black, only on a solid screen color. Tried the pixel fixers (let one run for 3 hours), no joy.
Now, I'm torn, return a smoothly running, no rebooting, speed deamon with one stuck pixel for the unknown.. or keep it and deal with the stuck (it's not really that obnoxious, it's on the very edge of the bottom of the screen)...
(this was a phone order, so have to wait for them to ship me one)
If it was me, i would keep it.
don't risk it... too many horrible bleeding backlight issues.. mine is pretty bad but I have no reboots no lag n no freezes so I'm sticking with it

I would return it, create a backup of what you have currently before you exchange it so you can keep the same settings. Wait until a couple of days before the exchange period is up go to the store and say I want to exchange it I have this dead pixel ask the rep to open a new phone so you can test it for defects like lcd bleed/dead pixel. The reason for waiting until a couple of days before the exchange most stores will replenish there stocks and maybe(i would hope) you will have one that is less defective.
Yeah I'm confused too. I ran it and rebooted but the ads are still there.

Ordered it over the phone, so can't go in to the store and look for a good one, it's whatever they send me.
Peace,
I'd say keep it. Look at it as aa custom LCD job. Ha! All seriousness, you will get use to it, but as soon as you the first battery issue you will be kicking yourself.
I've been through 2 G2x's , both have had the same problems...
Random reboots
Random freezes
Random shutdowns
Crazy inconsistencies in battery life
I've also gone the route of rooting and trying CyanogenMod with the same results.
With the battery issues, I did the following test 3 nights in a row.
Phone wiped, 100% battery charge, signed into Google and let the apps download, rebooted phone, data connection turned off (airplane mode), unplugged the phone and set in the exact same spot in the same room 3 nights in a row at 11PM.
Come 8AM when I woke here's the results:
Day 1: 30% battery remaining
Day 2: 80% battery remaining
Day 3: 0% remaining - battery was stone cold dead - wouldn't boot until I plugged in.
Phone was fine when I started typing this post, but just now while typing this message I reached over to check my phone for text messages (I keep the alerts volume all the way down while at work) and it's locked up again...
Guess I'll be returning the phone for a refund and borrowing an old flip phone for a month until the Sensation comes out.
Sorry LG - when it works, it works AWESOME, but I need something a bit more reliable considering that work needs to contact me on the phone and I am on call 24/7 !
In the 2 weeks I've had it I've only had 2 random freezes and no other issues at all. This is my first android phone and the thing i see that's screwed up with android is it leaves applications open, there is no exit buttons on apps. I've been using juice defender and uninstalling any apps that keep popping back up after ending task on them.
Sorry to hear about your problems. You're doing the right thing by returning it and getting another phone. I don't understand why people have loyalties to corporations who could give 2 craps about you. Buy what works for you and makes you happy.
For me, the occassional reboot on the G2X is a pain but the promise of a stable CM release and an official gingerbread release on this hardware has me sticking it out. Can't wait
I haven't had any issues with my phone except battery life. Buy my battery life isn't as bad as yours. It used to be horrible but I got a new sim and that seemed to make it better.
Regarding the reboots, some apps are causing the phone to reboot. Either the apps aren't optimized for the phone or the other way around. I had one reboot and after I removed the offending app, never happened again.

Actually, when I bought the phone I had them put a brand new SIM card as mine was getting to be a little long in the tooth - if getting a new one helps the situation I'd hate to see how it was with my old one :-D
Removing an offending app would prove to be a real problem for me though, as everything that I install has a legitimate work-related function.
im returning mine today for a newer batch one. its may 4 so i expect one that has the date of 4/24 and up as stated in other threads. mine reboots and freezes during random functions.
I ordered mine on the 20th so the day the phone was out in the store. I had to order mine online since i am a T-Mobile RSA. I have alittle screen bleed but not much. I will be doing exchanges until i get one with no bleed. Other wise i have had no problems at all. No reboots, lock ups, data problems, nothing the phone is rock solid. I love the phone. Every person that has come into my store with problems i have told them that T-Mobile is going to exchange this for you under the lifetime warranty if you have it for the life of you having the phone. So you have nothing to worry about. The phone is a great phone to have. Do the exchanges until you get a working one. I know i would do it until i did. Even if it meant doing it 100 times.

A better test would have been to not install any apps. Then you could truly test your phone and not some rogue app, that you keep installing.
I'm about to do a complete wipe again and use a secondary Gmail account I have so to eliminate any apps from auto-installing and test throughout the day since I have my work PC handy.
or just skip the Gmail sign in process at first and add your Gmail account later from Settings. This will prevent it downloading your apps on first boot.
Also to the New Android User: Back closes apps, Home leaves them open. It isn't the OS's fault if you don't know how to use it.
To the OP: Have you rooted and flashed the Pre-Dexopt Patch from Paul?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1051616
LG left the phone in Dev mode and doesn't dexopt the phone on initial bootup. This is why our phones boot so quickly. The downfall is after a few hours, it starts to lag out and lock up/reboot.
Sounds exactly like the problem you are having.
This patch is required for stock and EaglesBlood Roms excluding CM7. This should be fixed in the upcoming Gingerbread update. I also believe EaglesBlood and future roms will start coming with this patch included.
So do yourself a favor and patch it.
Basically, it's an awesome phone and many, if not all, of the issues should be resolved with software updates. Gingerbread is already in the works.

Yep, have tried without the patch initially and then with it.
I have signed in with the secondary Gmail account - only thing I imported from the original was my contacts, so, it's 100% stock with the exception of Paul's patch and recovery.
I'll be damned...
In an attempt to preemptively find out what I would need to return the accessories I ordered for the phone just in case I took the plunge and returned the phone, I was on hold with T-Mobile...
And while on hold, I grabbed my phone - and SURE ENOUGH - LOCKED UP HARD!
So, I guess this just made up my mind for me - I'll be returning this phone to point of purchase. Just need to use NAND to restore the stock backup , reflash stock recovery and unroot...
I am planing to return this phone too..
It seems the phone shut down completely for no reason, sometimes the screen doesn't wake up even tho phone is running in background.
So far i have tried to run completely stock with no apps installed no sync nothing and i was getting battery like 6-7 hrs.
I guess that was not acceptable for me.

my understanding is the sensation is locked down that's why cyan isn't going to get it. Which also means no dev support.

HTC announced an update to the Sensation in Q3 that will include a NFC chip to match the features of the SGS2. I'm also guessing they'll increase the amount of RAM in the phone to make it more competitive. If the 2.3.3 update makes the G2X stable I may keep it until later in the year. If the Sensation comes out before they update the G2X I'll get Sensation. I need a phone that's consistently dependable and in that regard the G2X is a mess. I can't do custom ROMs because I travel globally and everyone I've ever used has always given me problems registering on foreign networks so CM7 is no silver bullet for me. It's a shame too because the G2X hardware (bleeding screen excepted) is pretty slick and it's really fast when the planets line up and everything works. Sigh.
I never had restarting issues don't think it was what most of you guys going through this the first time it's happened. When it restarted all stock Widgets are back on the screen all firmware still the same runs a bit smoother don't really know what they changed anyone has a clue??????
Did it factory reset on you? All your apps still there?
I call it the G2x lottery, every time the phone reboots or I turn it off and back on, there's a chance it'll factory reset itself! I've actually been going on a month now with no random factory reset *fingers crossed*
Yea all my apps still here still logged in Google account just the original Widgets even the tip widget is restored seems a lil bit smoother.

I know exactly what your talking about. I had to go through 2 other G2x'z before I got one that did not play opossum (freeze). But either Tuesday or Wednesday I heard the start up intro going off. Full battery. Then it happened today. Im sure it's an issue, but it's a different one than the others. Reason why I say different is that the others I had to remove the battery rinse and repeat when needed. With this issue, I simply have a Ghost reboot. I'll keep searching...
They don't call em Smart-phones for nothing.
I'm pretty used to the random reboots now. This is my 3rd G2x and it reboots the least. Once or twice a day. Actually Just rebooted 5 minutes ago sitting on the nightstand. Was hoping to see an update that would kill these random reboots but at this point, the terrible battery life and poor sound quality helped me decide that there won't be a 4th try.
I was excited to remember this phone during looking at phones since I'm in the market for a new phone since my G4 died. But looking at a thread here it seemed a lot of people were having problems with soft reboots. Does this only affect rooted? or? is it for every verizon note edge? As nice as this phone is that might be a deal breaker for me. How long does a soft reboot take on the note edge? under 5 seconds? 10 seconds? longer? Just wondering in case I ever had an emergency how long I'd have to wait before I could call while it's doing it's soft reboot. And I hope it's not for every verizon note edge. But if it is how many times does it do it in a day for most? Meaning from about 8am-12midnight. Thanks guys.
Just do not use fingerprint lockscreen and no soft reboot at all.
How often occur? Good question, it depends on your habits. For me about 2 times per day. It last 5 sec, with laggy things 10-15 sec...
I am on 915FY btw not V.
On my 915FY it occured several times a day, and took sometimes more than a minute to get it working again. But fortunately I solved the problem with disabeling the stock-lockscreen and use hi locker instead. That app works with fingerprint and no reboots since then. All the other bugs (eg. loosing BT- or wifi-connection every now and then) seem to be related to exact the same lockscreen-bug and never appeared since that change.

Seems like it's every 20 mins... literally all the time.
Is this issue unique to the Note Edge, or does it happen with other Samsung phones?
What does soft reboot mean?
I'm wondering if this subject heading is the same as the problem I'm having on my notes edge... The phone goes off and tries to reboot even with 56% and at times with 70% battery left...
I'm desperately looking for a solution.

I had this problem. Every time the battery got down to about 60% the phone would cut off, try to reboot unsuccessfully a few times then die. Would not fully boot up until I put the phone on the charger. New battery solved it for me. Had this problem with another phone. Same thing. The battery was bad.

Thanks. I'm on this thread today because of an N915F crashing around the 40% battery full range. Unfortunately after it does that a few times it goes into boot loop that won't fix with cache wipes, and after a while it wouldn't fix with a reset either. It was still on KitKat, so I flashed 6.0.1 from September 2017 (Sammobile), but it crashed as well. Stepped back to July 2017 from Updato which updated to August 2017 through system update, and switched to a charger that will actually increase the charge on the phone while it's being used. Has been running fine while on the charger, but I also suspected a hardware issue since it would soft reboot on the recovery screen. Even though I have the battery at 100% now, I don't dare run it without the charger because I'm tired of going through setup and configuration over and over again. I ordered a battery last night. I hope that solves it for me too.
Use wakelock
select partial wake lock
and setting to start up on boot
its work on me never deepsleep in lock mode
I had same problem... Time for a new phone

I would check this out, if i was you.!
Reason,
one of my old Samsung phones, infact
a Note 8.0 Tablet, started with this
is same issue...." overheating" noticed
I ignored it for a few months.
as tablet seemed to be working fine.
Eventually, i then, started get to a point
when i get the "message" my tablet
would stop charging.
I had to wait for a while and try charging again.
After, many months (maybe +- 7..8..9 months)
My tablet did not want to charge. anymore.!
I eventually took tablet to a
Samsung Care Centre
It was the USB port/ charging port ... (ok we now have a C port)
Replaced port and all was fine again.
I would say don't ignore this "overheating" message.
Good luck

Thanks.
I'm not ignoring it as that's why I posted.
I don't want the phone if it continues this. So I don't know what to do if it happens again and it's still not hot.

I would take it back to a Samsung service center or call them.
I would also take screenshots of overheating message and if it follows any pattern.?
Use screenshots as you "proof" of the overheating issue.
Otherwise Samsung would just check device and say device is ok.
(You have to be fast as i know the overheating notice
only appears briefly for 3..4 seconds..?)
I personally believe that this "overheating" is a start of hardware issues... not a software issue.
You have factory resetted your phone, so if it
appears again at later stage... hardware issue!
I also factory resetted my old tablet and all was ok for a while... then overheating notices started to appear again.
Good luck
post note
Forgot, yes in beginning my tablet appeared / also did not feel hot. Reason why i ignored it.
Also thought /hoped it was a software issue.
