Guys I'm on global Miui 8 Global 6.7.5 beta. I tried to root and install twrp using mi4i rooting toolkit version 4. But it doesn't work. Previously on miui6 and miui7, I can root and install twrp using the mi4i toolkitV4. But now it doesn't work anymore when I upgraded to miui8.
Does anyone knows how to root miui8 global 6.7.5 beta?
Rooting
First you have to enable developer options. Then in developer options under debugging section turn on USB debugging and Fastboot Mode.
Then download TWRP. Rename it to twrp.img for ease.
https://dl.twrp.me/ferrari/twrp-3.0.2-0-ferrari.img.html
Install fastboot and adb drivers.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=48915118#post48915118
Download root zip file, and place it on internal storage.
https://download.chainfire.eu/696/supersu/
Open the folder on PC where twrp image is downloaded. Hold shift and right click on the window(not the file or folder). Then select open command window here. CMD will open.
Long press power button and volume down to boot into fastboot mode, connect it by USB.
Type in CMD: fastboot devices
If it shows a device is connected you are good to go! If not verify if the drivers are properly installed.
To just root and preserve Mi Recovery for OTA:
Type in CMD: fastboot boot twrp.img
this will boot into twrp to flash supersu.zip file and reboot.
To flash TWRP permanently:
type: fastboot flash recovery twrp.img
then reboot by long pressing power button then open TWRP by power button + vol up. Then flash supersu.zip
Thanks

Yape!
Thanks for the article - will update and root tonight
The process:
update via OTA (hate this as my 16GB is insufficient - love all things M1 but hate the lack of external SD capability)
Reboots - it enters my old TWRP, and auto install update
Once it installs, and auto powerup, I turn on "fastboot mode" (developer option was already on) - a pain in the a55 due to the security prompt...
Power-off the device. Reboot to fastboot mode as per instruction above
I chose to retain M1 recovery, and so fastboot into TWRP to install SU.
Reboot
Tested with titanium backup - root works!
Thanks!!!
Love the new notification drawer, and memory management...
can i root my mi4i without instal twrp and still habe ota update if my phone rooted ?
thanks
Yes.
The OP posted 2 methods for using twrp near the end of his post.
For v7++, I could always ota despite having twrp onboard, instead of mi recovery. Not sure about this recent v8. Hence I used the first method above, preserving my recovery. Also, from my history of use. I never use twrp or recovery anymore, after rooting. No point having recovery backup as mi issues updates ofyen. I use titanium for backup of third party software only. Even then this is redundant since ota preserves software.

Are you sure you installed ADB Fastboot drivers? and make sure you 'cd' to the directory where twrp.img is located or else it will say the file is not found.
You need to put the both fastboot and image files together in the same directory. Then open a MS prompt in this directory, and type the syntax to flash.
twrp not found??

Rename the TWRP downloaded file to 'twrp' not 'twrp.img' as mention. and in command write ' fastboot boot twrp.img' as the downloaded file is already img i did it and worked for me.
Hi,
I manage to flash TWRP (i.e. sending recover =OKAY & writing recovery= OKAY).
Yet I could not manage to reboot by long pressing power button then open TWRP by power button + vol up.
Someone can help me?

IMPORTANT NOTE ABOUT ROOTING AND UNLOCKING BOOTLOADER:
After flashing TWRP 3.0.2, use the SuperSU 2.46 flashable zip, do NOT use latest version or will result in a bootloop. Good Luck and have fun with rooting. Unlocking bootloader will delete all your data, so please make a backup first. Thank you.

CREDITS
And also, before anything i would like to say thanks to @arjaylzo for telling me the name of a device with TWRP which helped making this update possible.

For drivers: http://adbdriver.com - Download ADB Driver Installer (universal) from the website, extract it, connect device it should detect device(if not, enable USB Debugging and reconnect), and press install, it should install drivers.
For ADB Folder: download this and extract to your main drive(C:/): https://goo.gl/ZTrfBb
2- Unlocked Bootloader (you need requirement 1 to do this)
Instructions for Unlocking bootloader: Go on settings, about device, press build version several times till it says your a developer, go back to settings, press Developer Options, and enable OEM Unlocking. Power off, then press at same time Power and Vol+ button, then connect to pc and open a cmd and write cd c:\\adb and write fastboot oem unlock, then accept the prompt it will give on tablet, and follow the rest of the steps.

New TWRP bugfix update! Now you can flash stock rom on TWRP without bricking! Download Page updated!
----------- -----------
BUGS:
1- adb shell command needs to be sent before system partition is mounted or it will give an error, after doing adb shell you can mount system and do all the modifications you need.
2- You cant flash any img on twrp it gives an error, im trying to fix.
3- Backups do work, but everytime twrp restarts, the device name seems to change (which means that on /TWRP/BACKUPS/devicename/backupsinside/ changes every reboot so you have to go get the backup inside the old devicename folder and put on the new devicename folder).
----------- ADITIONAL NOTES -----------
Im leaving an unsecured boot image because system seems not want to boot android if anything seems changed. So please if system does not boot after flashing twrp/rooting, flash the unsecured boot img on fastboot

On step 4 You need the fastboot files, (adb & fastboot) just search how to install adb and fastboot drivers, choose the directory where to install them and place the needed files inside that folder and open a command prompt on that folder so you can flash the files.

Hi Everyone
I will show you how to unlock bootloader, install TWRP and ROOT on
ASUS Zenfone 3 Max 5.5 ZC553KL (X00D).
Before you remember to backup data carefully.
All needed files will be in this folder:
Please edit all the link to be form of google shorterner
goo. gl/xCAUAB
1. We downloaded two driver compression files on:
Adb: goo. gl/SBVPVG
Intel Android Driver: goo. gl/oYN7mG
2.Download this file:
goo. gl/5yA6yp
3. After you download all the necessary files, you unzip them all and start installing.
Run file adb-setup-1.4.2.exe to setup adb
Adb is now installed Intel Android Driver next next time as usual.
That is the driver. Now copy the two files (frp.BIN and twrp-3.1.1-0-X00D-20171020-5.img) into the C: \ adb folder.
4. Brother downloaded this file supersu and then copy to phone memory card.
goo. gl/jLmknM
5. Now start using adb to flashboot
After copying, we go to PowerShell (Admin) if using windows 10
You guys use win7 and 8 then run cmd with admin rights.
After open brother type the following commands in turn order:
cd C: \ adbadb reboot bootloader
The command to enter the bootloader, wait for the machine and then reset then type.
fastboot flash config frp.bin
Waitt for the copy to complete the command to reset.
fastboot reboot-bootloader
After resetting, type the following command:
fastboot oem unlock-go
Once done, type in the following command:
fastboot reboot
After the reboot finishes the power off.
Then press the volume key + before pressing the power button, wait for the screen, then release the power button to keep the volume + key to bootloader.
Please enter the order fastboot flash recovery
twrp-3.1.1-0-X00D-20171020-5.img
Wait for the file to finish typing the command below to enter the TWRP
fastboot oem reboot-recovery
After entering the TWRP, the brothers swipe the left "Swipe modified system".
Next select Install -> Select Storage under -> Micro SDCard -> OK
Youu will see the file SuperSU-V2.82.zip you just copied to the memory card.
Click on this file -> Swipe to Right Swipe to confirm Flash Finished, now sit back to finish running and reset the machine.
So is root finished.
Wishing you success.
LOL? You made this method yourself? I saw this in somewhere on this forum.

How i can remove TWRP e revert to stock recovery ?
ZC553KL
hello its been a while is it available for Android 8.1?
Hello, I could not download the files. Could you please submit a new link? Thank you very much in advance.
This method was tested on P2a42 4/32 and P2c72 4/64 (both smartphones has 251 firmware installed).
Please, pay attention and read carefully:
You have a risk that P2 will go from EDL (9008) mode to 900E while you make a reconnect of connected to PC phone.
If you haven't successfully returned it by yourself into 9008 state - the only way is repair service. See details on 4Th step below the short instruction.
ADB and EDL (9008) drivers have to be pre-installed on your PC.
For those, who faced with flashing firmware, gaining root, working with ADB and Fastboot commands, EDL mode on P2 and so on, here is the short instruction:
1. Wipe sp if you have root: dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/block/bootdevice/by-name/sp .
2. Wipe secinfo via Fastboot: fastboot erase secinfo .
3. Wipe userdata via Fastboot: fastboot erase userdata .
4. P2 is connected to PC in EDL (9008) mode, make a reset via launching blank-flash.bat from blankflash folder.
5. Flash 251 firmware as for unlocked device using START script .
6. Choose region ( ####682# ) and then make a reset ( ####7777# ).
7. That's all folks! Now you have locked P2 with a region that you want. So you can set the phone as you always do.
Below there is the same instruction, but detailed and with pictures.
From Unlocked to Locked state on P2.
1. Wipe sp if you have root: dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/block/bootdevice/by-name/sp .
On this step you can use Total Commander with ADB plugin (YouTube will help you, there are tons of videos about it).
I prefer not to use PC, if there is another way.
What I've done:
Android Terminal Emulator installed and launched.
Gave it permission to root access.
In Emulator typed su and pressed Enter.
Sign $ will turned to # , which means that further commands will be under root access.
Type command: dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/block/bootdevice/by-name/sp and press Enter.
If all done right, so you will see: Screenshot 1.
View attachment 4358523
2. Wipe secinfo via Fastboot: fastboot erase secinfo .
Turn off P2.
Boot it into Fastboot mode - press and hold two buttons (Power And Volume -), on P2 screen you will see Fastboot mode: Screenshot 2.
View attachment 4358524
Connect P2 to PC (it is recommended not to use card readers; connect to USB which are situated on motherboard for PC, there is an exception for notebook (laptop)).
Press right mouse button and hold Shift on ADB folder, which is placed in the root of Disc C (С:\), choose "Open command line" - a CMD window will appear on the screen of PC.
In CMD window type fastboot erase secinfo and press Enter.
If all done properly, all drivers set properly, on the screen of your PC you will see: Screenshot 3.
View attachment 4358525
3. Wipe userdata via Fastboot: fastboot erase userdata .
Continue in CMD window. Type fastboot erase userdata and press Enter.
On the screen of your PC you will see: Screenshot 4.
View attachment 4358526
Close CMD window on PC.
4. P2 connected to PC in EDL (9008) mode, make a reset via launching blank-flash.bat from blankflash folder.
blankflash folder must be placed in the root of Disc C (С:\).
On PC you must hold opened window of "Device manager" with opened string "Ports (COM and LPT)".
Your P2 must be connected to PC in EDL (9008) mode.
Use P2 very carefully without further re-connections, because there is a high risk, that P2 can go to 900E mode.
P2 connected to PC, press and hold all three buttons (Power and both Volume).
Hold buttons (phone will be rebooted twice) until you will see "Qualcomm HS-USB QDLoader9008 (COM12)" in opened window of device manager in string "Ports (COM and LPT)".
You might get another number of port (not only 12Th), it doesn't matter.
The main aim is "Qualcomm HS-USB QDLoader9008..." string in device manager.
Please, be very careful, because even little re-press of button or re-connect of cable will send your P2 to 900E mode with constant vibration and blue LED.
Try to restore phone to EDL (9008) mode by pressing and holding three buttons.
If you have no luck (from 900E to EDL) - congrats, you've got a brick.
From this point you should ask for help in repair service.
Going further, if all is going right and P2 connected to PC in EDL (9008) mode.
In device manager window on PC you will see this: Screenshot 5.
View attachment 4358527
From blankflash folder launch (double click of left mouse button) blank-flash.bat: Screenshot 6.
View attachment 4358528
You will see a CMD window which shows you a reset process of your P2.
If all done properly (without any "ERROR False"), you will see: Screenshot 7.
View attachment 4358529
In the end of reset your P2 will automatically boots from EDL (9008) mode to Fastboot mode: Screenshot 8.
View attachment 4358530
I suppose that there is no need to speak about 5Th and 6Th steps, because it is a basic knowledge, that you should know, when you are going to lock bootloader on P2.
Important notice.
You have to use original or other cable that has been already successfully used in Fastboot mode with your Р2.
The simple way to check cable is to type fastboot oem config in CMD and look what info it will give to you.
For those, who have already locked bootloader, it is strictly recommended not to flash stock ROM via flashall.bat.
For flashing stock you should use method for unlocked device, so you need to use START script.
All will go right if you will flash via flashall.bat after bootloader was locked, without any errors, Р2 will be booted as usual - Wi-Fi, SIM-cards (with names of operators), IMEI's and Serial number - all will be OK ...
But!
Calling, SMS and Mobile data will not work, you will see crosses on antenna icons in Status bar (in the string of modem firmware in "About" you will see "X" instead of "R" (Screenshot 9, 10) as it was, modems region will be defective).
View attachment 4358708View attachment 4358709
You can switch on/of Mobile data from Notification drawer, but there will be no connection, only Wi-Fi will work.
I am searching for solution of this problem.
As soon as it will be ready, it will be posted here. See post #2.
ADB folder (download, unzip) - View attachment ADB.rar

All thanks addresses to https://forum.xda-developers.com/member.php?u=279908.
I've just translated it from Russian to English from 4PDA site
Good luck and have a nice day!
Remember ...backup rules.
Solution.
Your phone must be unlocked and you must already have TWRP-backups of modem (NON-HLOS) and EFS from Р2.
1. Unlock bootloader.
2. Install TWRP.
3. Restore modem (NON-HLOS) and EFS in TWRP - you will get working modem, but there might be no sound in telephony.
4. You should install modem image via TWRP for Android 6 or 7 to get back to a working telephony (for additional instructions see post #3).
Later, if there will be a method which will work without TWRP-backups and possibly without unlock of bootloader, it will be posted here.
Modem download links:

How to restore a modem.
Important notice - you need to use modem with the same OS version which is installed on your phone.
Look here:
Firmware 062 - this is Android 6.
Firmware 233 and higher - this is Android 7.
Flash this:
For Android 6 - Modem_P2_062_ROW.zip
For Android 7 - Modem_P2_244_ROW.zip
Flash modem via TWRP:
1. Download zip for OS that you need (do not unzip it, rename or choose extension).
2. Copy to the phone memory (or to external micro-SD card).
3. Boot to TWRP and act as it is shown on the screenshots ...

It is a difficult question.
I suppose, that official repair service can detect it.
Remember how you unlocked P2 at first time: you asked for unlock with internet connection and Lenovo ID, there is a possibility, that some data about it stored and can be used for different purposes.

Thanks I thought the same. But in this case why should we go back to locked bootloader

It is personal decision. May be someone don't like to see "UNLOCKED" state.

I agree... But there are some reports on this forum suggesting otherwise.
One common report is the replacement of motherboard for bricked devices, that too for unlocked devices.
Locked Boot-loader with just (3) steps:
1. Wipe sp if you have root: dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/block/bootdevice/by-name/sp .
2. Wipe secinfo via Fastboot: fastboot erase secinfo .
3. Flash fastboot images(Stock files).

Every step which jitkr enumerated is explained by sergsinger who made this guide.
Read the complete first post of sergsinger. Also click on show content for full explanation.
If you farther understand nothing please clearly explain what exactly.
"I don't understand" does not help in any way.

Yes, as long as you are on stock rom.
I lost my signal forever when I did a nandroid backup from another P2. I've tried it all, but nothing seems to work when it comes to restoring it.
I'm a bit confused by the first posts. OP talks about locking the bootloader and post #2 and #3 say you have to be unlocked to restore the modem? I'd have thought you wanted to lock it in order to flash the modem.

TUTORIAL REVISED AND WRITTEN BY @parcek

FURTHER UPDATED FOR ROOTING NOOBS: 10 Steps
Two Methods: Windows and Linux
Originally posted by @brad2192: https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/development/lg-aristo-2-root-t3746425

@brad2192: Updated Tutorial due to people using TWRP (the original tutorial was released before TWRP was released for this device)
1) Backup all apps and data using LG Backup phone apps
2) Enable USB debugging and Unlock OEM. There are two methods in which you will to accomplish this:
First Method: Smartphone GUI
A) On your Lg Aristo 2 Smartphone go into General Tab (If in Tab View), If in list view, scroll down towards System section
"System Settings > About Phone > Software Information > Click on "Build Number" 10 times.
Now go to "System Settings > About Phone > Developer Options > Enable OEM unlock."
and also "System Settings > About Phone > Developer Options > Enable USB debugging."
Second Method: Windows Command Prompt or Linux Terminal:
Windows:
B) Click and drag "adb" file into command prompt and type "reboot bootloader" after it. Press enter.
Click and drag "fastboot" file into command prompt and type "flashing unlock" after it. Press enter.
Linux:
C)Type in your terminal "adb reboot bootloader" and press enter.
Type in your terminal "fastboot flashing unlock."
NOTE: Below has the information which will teach you how to download ADB and FASTBOOT.
3) Download the following:
Updated - TWRP
Updated - Magisk
(Add this file into your phone's SD Card.)
Updated - boot image
Update: Windows:
B)This is how you download ADB and FASTBOOT for Windows: https://dl.google.com/android/repository/platform-tools-latest-windows.zip
4) Open Command Prompt. Then click and drag the adb file (from the latter download link a.k.a platform-tools) into command prompt then press space and type "reboot bootloader" after and then press enter OR power down phone and hold volume down while plugging in USB)
5) Open Command Prompt. Then click and drag the fastboot file (from the latter download link a.k.a platform-tools) into command prompt and then type "flash recovery" after it and then click and drag "newtwrp.img" into command prompt and press enter.)
6) Open Command Prompt. Then click and drag fastboot (from the latter download link a.k.a platform-tools) into command prompt and then type "flash boot" after it and then click and drag "bootimglistedabove.img" into the command prompt after and then press enter) then follow step 7).
Update: Linux:
C) Depending on kernel, for this sake we will use a debian based kernal.
This is how you download ADB and FASTBOOT for Linux: Open terminal and type: "Sudo apt-get install adb && sudo apt-get install fastboot"
4) Open terminal and type: adb reboot bootloader
5) Open terminal and type: fastboot flash recovery (and then click and drag newtwrp.img onto the terminal) and hit enter
6) Open terminal and type: fastboot flash boot (and then click and drag bootfilelistedabove.img onto the terminal) and hit enter
This applies towards both Windows and Linux: continuation after their last listed step written above.
Step 7) Remove battery from phone, in order to force a shut down.
8) Boot into Recovery-TWRP Mode.
How to boot into LG Aristo 2 TWRP Recovery:
a) The phone is off.
b) Hold the volume key and power key at the same time.
c) When the LG logo appears, let go of the power key (while still holding the volume down key) and then click and hold the power key once again.
d)You will be prompted to LG Aristo 2's stock recovery mode asking you if you are sure you would like to delete ur phone.
e) Go to the option "yes" and enter.
f) It will then warn you that can remove all data from your phone.
g) Go to the option "yes" and enter.
You will be in TWRP after this.
TWRP Mode:
9) In TWRP go to "Wipe > Format Data" and then type "yes" and confirm it. (Do not hit reboot, click back a few time and hit reboot > recovery)
10) In TWRP go to "Install > Select Storage" and select your SD Card. Then look for where you placed the "magisk" zip file. Install it.
Your phone is now rooted.
On TWRP menu: Reboot.
Restore your phone if you created an LG backup of your important files (like lets say contacts or applications).
-----------------------------------------------
If any mistakes were made and you phone becomes locked, here is how to go into download mode to repair your LG Aristo 2 into its default stock rom. Credit to @tecknight: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=76837800&postcount=4
1) Power off phone.
2) connect usb to Lg Aristo 2 phone (without connecting the usb into the PC or laptop)
3) Hold volume up key and then connect USB into computer
4) download LG Bridge
5) detect phone
6) click on "Update Error Recovery"
Your LG Aristo 2 will be repaired and factory resetted.
-------------------------------------------------------------
What root means: In terms of PC language, Root means the superuser that has privileges to Add, Modify, and or Delete any kind of system files without prevention. Pretty much, it's like the actual Administrator account on a PC. Natively, whenever we buy a phone, it is as if to say, we are only using a guest account. Since the android OS is basically a Linux based computer (correct me if i am wrong) we can do anything we like... You want iOS emoji's on an android? A custom boot animation? Having root privileges allows you to go beyond your guest user restrictions because you then become the Admin.
Explaining the function of the provided Magisk app: It allows root privileges for programs intended for rooted phones.
There are other popular programs alternative of Magisk app, such as the SuperSU app: http://www.mediafire.com/file/2dljobq6yw93w76/UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.82-20170528234214.zip
--------------------------------
After being officially done setting up your rooted phone, make sure you disable OEM Unlock to avoid seeing the caution message before every boot.
--------------------------
How to backup your phone.
Also, using ADB, backup your phone.
Windows: Click and drag ADB file onto command prompt and paste " backup -apk -shared -all -f "C:\Users\UserName\Desktop\backupfilename.ab" "
Linux: Open terminal and type " adb backup -apk -shared -all -f "C:\Users\UserName\Desktop\backupfilename.ab" "
Update: For those who are encountering "Now unlock your phone and confirm operation" when typing the latter code, there is an alternative and much more easier and safer way to backup your phone.
Boot into TWRP and click on "backup" and then select what you would like to back up and then swipe to confirm the operation.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Confirmed Successful rooting for LG Aristo 2 - June 2018

Brad I have a question, is there any way to get a custom ROM on this phone? If not how come? How does it all work?
And are you with Metro PCS as well? What apps can a safely delete to get this phone as close to a stock version of android as I can? Can I seriously just wipe out EVERY metro app? Hows your phone functioning?

Until there is a custom recovery built, we won't have custom roms. Dont wipe out every metro app. Anything you arent sure about, look up, or just freeze the app and test results. My phone is fine except SuperSU wont work properly due to the binary being occupied, but this is the best we have so far. I debloated no problem.

Root is the only thing needed, not a custom recovery. Apps like Magisk Manager can flash custom images. The reason there is no ROMs built for this device, I can tell you in my opinion there is no need for a Custom ROM. Magisk Manager has plenty of customizations available as well as many other root apps. Basically, custom recoveries are obsolete, it is not needed for gaining root access nor flashing files. Magisk can do it as well as Flashfire.

Hey man, I would press the Windows Key+R and type" "cmd"
Then, as long as your adb is located at C:\adb type: "cd C:\adb"
Then use adb, I hate how Windows 10 forces it on users!
Hey, I am so sorry to bother you but when I enter in the fourth step of your tutorial, it tells me "flash boot" command doesn't exist. Is there something I'm doing wrong?

Okay, after messing around with it a few, I found that once it goes off into fastboot... my computer can't recognize it anymore?

Hey guys, spent a few hours figuring out how to root. Pretty Simple!
1) Enable Developer Options, USB Debugging & OEM Unlock
2) Reboot to Fastboot Mode (Using ADB via PC type: adb reboot bootloader)
3) Add root_boot.img into your adb folder
4) In ADB type: fastboot flash boot root_boot.img
5) After flash successful, type: fastboot reboot
6) Install Magisk Manager App
For those skeptical, proof of root here.

Do I need to unlock the bootloader first? I have it rebooted into fastboot and it's giving me instructions to do that, but won't let me push the boot image. If I do need to unlock it, does it wipe my device?

Yes, when you use "fastboot oem unlock" it unfortunately erases all data. One of our forum members is working on a TWRP at the moment that might be available today. You could wait to do this so you can create a backup.

What are you typing into ADB to get that error?
Do you have to de-encrypt the phone for root? I am thinking of getting an Aristo2, currently using the MotoE4 (which I hate!), and rooting that requires de-encryption (I love encryption!). This is the MetroPCS version your talking about? Thank you...
