Messages missing from shortcut widget - Samsung Gear S2

I have a Gear S2 Classic, and recently had to do a factory reset. When getting everything back to the way I like, I noticed that "Messages" is no longer an option when selecting apps for the shortcut widget (the widget that allows for four app shortcuts).
Messages is still available in the main app menu, and is working fine. I can add Messages as a "complication" on various watch faces, just not the shortcut widget.
I pair the watch with a new (battery replaced) Galaxy Note 7.
Thoughts???
Thanks in advance.

Messages has not been an option on my S2 Classic since I got it in that widget. You had it once? Hope some one can shed light on this as it would be nice to have.

Yes. I purchased my Gear S2 Classic maybe 9 months ago, and always had the option of adding Messages to the shortcut widget.
FYI... its a Bluetooth / WiFi version of the watch. Firmware = R732XXU2DPG1.
When pairing the watch to my new phone (Note 7), Messages seems to have disappeared from the shortcut widget list of apps -- I did a factory reset on the watch..
I liked having my "communication" shortcuts on one widget: Message, E-mail, Phone, & Buddy.

Having the same problem. Gear S2 classic and. Galaxy S7.

Same problem hear after switching to the S7 phone. Wondering if the Gear does not recognize it as a Galaxy device therefore does not give the widget option.
It's interesting this whole thread is Gear S2 Classic. Wonder if that could be the problem? Gear S2 Classic with the new S7 and Note 7 phones.
I really miss having it on the widget.

I still have it on mine. I have s2 classic and s7.

I contacted Samsung and they said because the factory reset didn't do anything I should take my watch back to the store to see if they would send it in or replace on warranty. I will let you all know how that goes

Back to old phone - still no shortcut
Well... I had to return my Note 7 and revert back to my old phone -- a Galaxy S4 running AT&T stock (but rooted) Lollipop.
I thought the widget shortcut would "magically" reappear after reverting back to a phone / OS where I know the shortcut was present; however, no such luck.
After performing [another] factory reset on my watch and reconnecting it to my Galaxy S4, the widget shortcut is still missing.
Oh well. Obviously, this is not a huge deal; just a feature I had at one point, that seemingly disappeared for no reason.. I just use watch faces that support shortcuts and / or access messages through notifications.

This just happened on my classic this weekend. Hard reset didn't do anything.

Installed the newest update this evening. It's back !

I have a new Galaxy Gear s2 and the Note 4 for At&t....im not new to the smart watch scene and have set it up correctly.....I get about 50% of my notifications on my watch....I hear my phone notification for new email, and wait to get it on my watch and get nothing...but sometimes I do get the notification on my watch...its so erratic...sometimes I get them and sometimes I don't...is this normal? if so its annoying.

Same here had it for two weeks tmobile note 5 and for some reason I factory reset my phone and watch for better performance and now I hardly get any notifications
Make sure the option to ignore notifications while phone is awake is not selected. Can't remember exactly where I found it but that was my problem when I first got my watch.

settings are all correct....I'm really starting to hate this watch...
There is option called limited notification, untick that.
Make sure you have selected all apps that you need notification.
I had the watch for 4 days and reset it about three or four times but could never get the notifications to work like they should. I would get some and not get others. All the setting were right. I finally returned it today. Mine was from Verizon. I really loved the watch but the main reason I got it from Verizon was the speaker and to see notifications on my watch when I drive. I found myself having to look at my phone about as much as I looked at my watch.
That's weird, the notifications on my watch actually alert me before my phone does. If not before then they both alert me at the same time with my Note 5.

I decided to go back to Verizon and try another watch and the second one is working near perfect. It has not missed a single notification, knock on wood. It seems the first one was bad. I should have know when I had to reset it almost immediately when the heart rate monitor and steps would not function. So far so good with the new one.
Hate to say but paired to my iphone I get all notifications without any problem, except that I lost bluetooth connection a few times.
I had some notification issues over the network. Make sure you setup notifications proper in both the Samsung Gear app and the app itself (ie email). To solve my notification issues over the network in remote connection mode I had to "reinstall" the Samsung gear app which also forced my watch to do a light reset. See my post over in Connection modes for more details.
To bump this up, I have the same problem. Slow notifications regularly, no notifications at all when the phone is charging. I have disabled the option to not show notifications when the phone is active and no change. It's the only grip I have with the watch
I get 98% of the notifications so no big deal for me,but the only app that I don't get notification on the watch is YouTube

Changed phone from Note 3 to S7 Edge - how to setup Gear S2?

Hi
I have just bought an S7 Edge to replace my Note 3 and now need to switch my S2 to connect to the Edge instead. Does anyone know of an online guide anywhere which would tell me what I should do please?
Just go to the watch settings (on the watch) and reset it to factory settings. Then you can find and pair the watch from the Gear Manager on the new phone.
Thanks, presumably I will lose all the settings on the watch and have to start from scratch?
There is not so many settings on the watch itself.
That was surprisingly easy. I did a light reset and went from there. I had written down all the details such as the order of my widgets and quickly had it looking just as it was with my old phone. Even kept the data from My Notes in Gear.
Yes, light reset is the way to go. You can go into your Samsung account and re-download all previous downloaded apps. I had to do this twice: going from S6 to Note 7 and after replaced recalled Note 7

Timers not working on non-samsung phones?

UPDATE: This appears to be a problem for watches connected with non-Samsung phones.
Had my S3 Frontier for 4 days now. The Samsung timer does not vibrate or alert when it finishes. I purchased another time app (CookingTimer by SRPOL) and it does not run in the background. So as it stands now, no timer app is available for the S3 that will run in the background and notify upon completion.
Would someone test your timer app and see if it alerts upon completion?
Ive used my timer and alarm alot with no issues. Beeps loud and vibrates. Maybe uninstall and install the samsung timer again?
Count down timer? I did a hard reset and installed the timer only. Still not working. Doesn't matter if on vibrate or sound turned on. Arrrg

Every one I've tried so far doesn't alert when the timer runs out, which makes it useless
Mine's working just fine. Mine's a S3 Classic.

I set the time, start it, then either leave the watch alone or I press the home button and do something else with the watch.
My watch sounds the alarm when the time is up & I dismiss it by swiping from left to right as directed on the screen.

I have the Frontier T-Mobile LTE and just tested the Samsung timer app at 1 minute intervals with vibration only and sound with vibration. Both worked just fine. I also have AOD turned off in the event that the watch would go into some sort of sleep mode. Would you happen to have some Bluetooth device connected to the watch, like headphones, where it would want to send the alert to those rather than the watch itself? I'm not sure if it would do that or not but an easy thing to look into.
Put it in flight mode and no change. Only connection is with my phone. Gear S2 works fine. S3 not so much. I am going to go to the AT&T store and try it on the demo watch. If it works there, I will request an exchange.
My Timer works just as it did on my Gear S2. The only thing I notice is everyone complaining about the Timer not working correctly is using a non-samsung phone. Must be an issue there.
I use the timer app from Samsung Galaxy Apps in the Gear Manager. Type timer in search. Its the first one in the list.
Works perfect in the background with vibration and sound.
I am going to try setting the watch up on my wife's Note 5. That should answer let me know if it is because I am using a non-samsung phone. I hate having to set it up from scratch again. Samsung pay is the part that is a pain in the butt. I will report back.
Well, crap. The timer works as designed when paired with the Note 5. I am reconnecting with my Axon 7 and going to cross my fingers. Seems really odd that the phone it is paired to would make a difference in a timer.
Restore does not work as advertised. No apps or watch faces were restored. Samsung pay had to be redone from scratch.
Timer back to not working.
I had to return my Note 7 and did not want a S7. I am holding out for the release of the S8 or Note 8. S7 was not worth the expense and I like to upgrade yearly.

Glad you figured it out, hopefully Samsung can fix this with the Gear app for other phones in the future. I'm sure they will because you're not the only one to report it according to a google search.
Happening on non-Samsung phone for me too.
Gear S3 timer not woring
Same results for me. Timer does not work when connected to my Oneplus 3, works perfectly when using S7. Sending SMS via S Voice fails as well with the OP3. (SMS service is not available)
Shame as I like the Gear 3 and the OP3 - not so much the S7 - the home button angers me!
Seems like they fixed the timer. The app was removed briefly yesterday, and it's working with my Nexus 6P.

Gear S Plugin Notification

I have a Gear S3 connected to my Note 8. I can't stand the ongoing notification for the Gear S Plugin. Is there any way to get this to go away? When I had the Nexus 6, I could block this notification.
If you push and hold on the notification, it should give you an option to turn it off.

Nope. That worked on my Nexus 6, but not on the Note 8. The only options I have are Silence Notifications or Don't Silence or Block.

Tell me I am stupid, but I do not understand the problem.
I have a note 8 and gear s3.
What is exactly bothering you? You mean the text in the pull down notification screen? Where you can select o.a. "find my gear?"
Or switch the connection off?
Or the gear plugin message when reconnecting the gear S3?

The ongoing notification from the Gear S Plugin that says "Connected to Gear S3 via Bluetooth". The notification image that is shown always too.
I like it as clean as possible.

I also had this "samsung connect" thingy above it. And that one can be switched off in the settings.
When I switch samsung connect off off also my Gear s3 notification image disappears.
But when disconnected/connected I always get this plugin message. E.g when I switch my phone bluetooth off and on.

This problem also exists on a gear S2 connected to a note 8. I didn't have the problem with my note 5.
Disable the plugging
Go to the Samsung connect app and under your choices you will see dashboard. Turn the watch off. It will still connect through Bluetooth. Just won't be with the Samsung connect dashboard junk. It will remove the icon plugging data as well as the Samsung connect will drop off as it's not an active connection in it. Was my only fix. Just do not delete the Samsung gear app.

This worked for me.
Also annoys the heck out of me.
I tried the method at the bottom of the first page and I thought it works but it did not the notification returns. It's an utterly worthless notification because it's not notifying you of anything you don't already know and have known for as long as you have owned the watch.
I cant get rid of the notification either,
I sometimes leave the watch downstairs, right on the edge of bluetooth connectivity. So I get allot of connection and disconnected vibrations that I want to block
I've tried changing settings on the notification but it does nothing

This is really stupid.
Had the same issue with Note 8 / Gear S2
Maybe the new Smart Things (replaces Smart Connect) app will fix it
I downgraded from 3.0.0.1 to 2.3.2.3 and I forgot to turn off the auto download for the update. I switched it off half way, but it stubbornly kept downloading.
Now I have the udate software notification screen constantly nagging me as well.
I'm thinking maybe the only way to get rid of it is to
1) Reflash the watch again (Don't want the hassle of doing that again if avoidable)
2) Somehow deleting the update files on the phone / or watch or wherever it is.
Anyone have any idea about option 2?

Notifications no longer sent when phone is in "Do not disturb" mode

Hello there!
I have a Galaxy Note 8 connected to my Gear Fit2 Pro and after the recent round of app updates I stopped receiving any kind of notifications on my watch when my phone is in "Do not disturb" mode. This is very inconvenient as at work I always have my phone in "Do not disturb" and I rely on my watch to give me the notifications in a discreet way.
Even worse, they don't even get transmitted to the watch, so if I check it, it just says no notifications.
I was able to fix this by reverting back the phone software for the Gear Fit2 Pro:
* Gear Fit2 Plugin to version 2.2.04.19022851 (link)
* Galaxy Wearable (Samsung Gear) to version 2.2.24.19031361 (link)
I've tried to disable all of the automatic update options I was able to find (both in the google play store, as well as in the samsung galaxy store) and so far I've been able to avoid it moving back to the latest version.
I am the only one seeing this issue? Did someone find a better way out?
Hi!
I can confirm this is actually exactly what I just did! I realized that the notifications didn't work properly after the update, only just today I decided to check out the Playstore reviews of the Galaxy Watch app to see if anyone had similar issues but had the time to post it since the last update and saw someone saying that they wouldn't get any notifications while their phone was in DnD mode, which is the same for me, so I tried disabling the DnD mode and notifications worked normally, so I decided to try to revert back to previous versions of the app to see if it was the problem and I can confirm that I just found your post right as I finished reverting back to the exact versions you posted and everything is now working just like before!
Glad to know I'm not the one going crazy about this! It's a shame especially that changing versions needs a reset of the watch.
I've tried getting in touch with support, but had no luck yet.
The "Samsung Accessory Service" app seems to have received an update but I manually chose to not update it yet just in case, can anyone confirm that this will resolve the connection problem there was from the last update?
It is only stated in the "What's New" section that they "Fixed minor bugs and enhanced connection with Galaxy Fit", and since we're talking about the Gear Fit 2 Pro I'm not sure if this applies at all?
I'll probably give it a try in a couple of weeks, have new phone coming (Fxtec Pro 1) so since I would need to reset the Gear Fit 2 to pair again anyway, might as well try the latest version.
I'll report back when I test it.
Also here. Phone (note 10+) on DND and watch is not. No vibrations, yes notifications (orange dot).
So I missed rather a lot of messages and some phonecalls %^$#@[email protected]#*
Now I use Beautiful Widgets' "timed silence" widget temporarily.
In that case my Note is only silent and not in DND, which is ok.

I can confirm that with my new phone I installed "Galaxy Wearable" 2.2.28.19120361 and "Geat Fit Plugin" 2.2.04.19120641N and I still had the notifications issue. I've rolled back to the versions I've linked to in the first post and I got them back.
Samsung... please wake up :/
