T-Mobile BYOD simultaneous Voice and Data??? - General Questions and Answers

I've near given up on my Verizon GS5 having VoLTE on T-Mobile or even Voice and Data Simultaneously, but then today, I decided to be risky, I flashed a T-Mobile ROM to my Verizon S5. It won't work they said, it'll brick they said. I was greeted with the T-Mobile boot screen and not only that, it calls, and has data. Everything works, but even more interesting, I now have Data and Voice at the same time... I'm so confused, so VoLTE isn't working because when a call starts the LTE band drops and it reverts to HSPA+(by labeling it as 4G, not 4G LTE).
I could care less about the VoLTE, why did simply changing the ROM cause the Data to stay up in a voice call. My Verizon ROM worked on the LTE band, there is no change to my radio, baseband, or anything else, I simply flashed /system.
Can anyone explain what I'm witnessing? Its clearly phone side and not carrier. Would I be better keeping the TMO ROM over my Verizon ROM anyways? Thoughts, help, comments.

I made it work in my Verizon ROM, sorry for the bother!

will unlocked captivate work on t-mobile's blackberry plan?

I have had no luck getting my Vibrant to work with my T-mobile blackberry plan. Phone works, but no data.
If I get a Captivate, unlock it, will it work with T-mobile's blackberry plan for data?
I don't care if it's just 2g and not 3g, I just want data...
I was told by AT&T that it wouldn't work because the data is provisioned differently. I wanted to keep my Bold 9000 for work and the Captivate for all other times and couldn't do it. I'll have to assume that T-Mobile also provisions their data differently.
At&t 3G runs off a completely different radio frequency so an at&t phone wont work on T-Mobile 3g. It will work with 2g and data provisions have nothing to do with it. Still a GSM network. Just get your unlock code for your sim and switch away

An unlocked Captivate will work on Tmobile but you will only get Edge for data.
There is a big draw back as these phone were never design with anythin less than 3G in mind. When ever I was using data (edge) all my voice call went straith to voice mail with no indications of any missed calls.
With Wifi it's fine. Even peoples with AT&T 3G have these problems when they travel to an area with only 2G coverage. Even a person in India told me the same thing with his Galaxy S.
Yeah with edge you cannot talk and use data at the same time. That's why when you're using data it will not allow calls to go through until the data stops transferring.

[Q] phone & data

i had a samsung s3 a while back and i was able to be on a call and surf the web with out being on wifi is this still possible?
This is a carrier specific thing. And yes you can do it if you have LTE or HSPA+. That is assuming you have AT&T as i do.
I'm on sprint... and all data gets knocked out once a phone call has been started or recieved LTE or not
on sprint with my S3 it worked even on 3g using data and phone on the s4 it only worked while on LTE/4g
I can confirm for both T-Mobile and AT&T that data and phone calls work together just fine.
sprint triband does not allow voice / data at the same time.

Using Verizon's S6 on Tmobile's network

Hi all, has anyone here tried or been successful in getting the data or lte over voice calls with Verizon's S6 using Tmobile? I have Tmobile and trying to use my gf's unlocked Verizon Galaxy S6. Almost everything works fine except that while on voice call, the signal drops to 1x and I can not simultaneously use data or receive mms. Are there any fixes for this? Any help would be appreciated as she is planning to switch from Verizon to Tmobile and I would love to just reuse the phone on Tmobile.
PS: Sorry not sure if this should be in a carrier specific thread. If so, not sure which one to choose since it sort of dual carrier concern

Try going to Settings > Mobile Networks > Network Mode and change it to LTE / GSM / UMTS and see if that helps.

Simultaneous voice and data on verizon Note 5

I searched this but was unable to find any matching scenario. This is typical CDMA carrier's simultaneous voice and data issue. The phone (Galaxy Note 5) was bough from Verizon and gets 4glte fine when on Verizon SIM card... even simultaneously. I wanted to use the phone with a AT&T sim and after changing APN settings it does work fine, but NO simultaneous voice and data. When I make a call the 4glte signal on the top status bar changes to 1x and there is no data. Once the call ends it switches to 4glte. I have activated Advanced calling with Ver sim card on and when the ATT sim is in it does show HD calling enabled. So what's wrong with the device?? Did anyone face same issue ? Any suggestion will be greatly APPRECIATED. btw I am w/o any contract plan with Verizon
FWIW my Note 5 switches from 4G LTE to 1x as soon as I start a call. Unless I enable advance calling then I have 4G while in a call. However if you ask me the call quality is lower when I have HD Voice enabled in the advance calling tab.

Same problem here. I do not want to use HD Voice but still want simultaneous voice and data. I had no issue with this on my Galaxy S5.
I just wish it would stop notifying me telling me I don't have data on a call.
This is very annoying. I didn't have to set this on my older note 3. But I also went ahead and got the advanced calling 1.0. I dont know why, its dumb but it is what it is.
The new phones don't have 2x radios like the old phones did, so can't do both simultaneously. That is why you have to use advanced calling to get both.
It is a physical limitation of the phone, nothing you can do about it.

Why doesn't Verizon switch to GSM? Would it mess up their coverage if they decided to do it? I'm being hypothetical. I know it would cost them way more than they would ever spend to do it.
In a sense they are all moving to the lte spectrum. Att is GSM. Verizon is cdma. Both are using similar lte at 700mhz. When using advance calling it's no longer using cdma 1x or GSM but lte using voip over lte data. Therefore you can use voice and data.

I ended up getting a AT&T Note 5 and sold the Verizon Note 5. Everything works fine (4G data and voice simultaneously) on this one. I believe it's a limitation of Verizon Note 5.

Yes. But that is true when you use a Verizon SIM card... with a ATT sim there is no way to get data on the Ver Note 5. So bottom line is on a Verizon Note 5 you must use a Verizon SIM card to have voice and data at the same time, with AC on. On a ATT Note 5 it works by default, no options to turn on and perfect quality.

OP7P on Verizon

All,
I was wondering how are your experiences with Verizon while using OP7P.
I live in the SF Bay Area, signal has been pretty good out in the open, but as soon as I walk into a concrete building, the signal completely dies, not just weak. Anyone having similiar experience?
Also I have been hearing that this would change for Verizon in 2020? Can someone elaborate and confirm? I have an oppty to switch to ATT but I'd like to stick with Verizon if possible .
Any one?
I had the same problem. Because Verizon uses CDMA, and the OP7 does not, phone calls only work when the phone is connected to LTE. It will not work
on the Verizon 3G network. As you said, Verizon is supposed to be doing away with the CDMA thing soon, but apparently not yet. I had to switch
to AT&T, as they have a strong LTE signal in my area, as opposed to Verizon, which did not.
I've used Verizon for many years. I moved at the beginning of the year and have had poor service until I did the thing I never thought I would do. I switched to ATT and have had no further problems. I got the same cheap plan, but with more data, for the same price I was paying Verizon. The worst of it was with Pandora. I cancelled my subscription and may try them again down the road.

No calls when not on LTE is brutal...
I also noticed that when I'm on WiFi and set the Verizon sim as the primary, the status bar will only show signal but not the LTE icon, it comes back as soon as I switch off WiFi.

That's just how Verizon handles signal icons. It will just show what's currently in use. If you have WiFi, it priorities WiFi.
If you want to verify you still have LTE by looking at icons, turn off mobile data and you will see an x where the LTE usually is, even with the WiFi on.

I have Verizon and I absolutely love this phone on Verizon. You just need them to provision your account for VOLTE since this phone doesn't support CDMA. I get HD+ calling and fast download speed with LTE

This is how it's going to be for everyone when Verizon ditches CDMA completely. I think a lot of people who still get voice over 3g in fringe areas and don't get a good LTE signal are going to be ticked off.

I think I already have VOLTE, but not being able to make calls when not on LTE makes no sense...

You should be able to call. Do you have VOLTE at the top in the status bar? What does it say when you dial out?

Most of the time I do. When I was in the concrete building, I was connected to the wifi so maybe I thought I had no mobile data but I did.
I figured it out...nothing wrong with Verizon.
It turns out when I reboot, the network selection for mobile data automatically switch to SIM1 but my Verizon sim is on 2.
All good.
The 7Pro is great on Verizon. I'm in the SF Bay Area and have no issues. I had the 6T before this phone.
Like another poster I have two sims in the phone and since TMobile comes up faster I need to manually switch back to Verizon for data after a reboot.
