My New honor 8 feels a bit sluggish? - Honor 8 Questions & Answers

Hello,
I have just opened my honor and i have noticed that it's a little sluggish, is this normal ? Like when I scroll here on xda with chrome it's shutters a little and not as smooth/snappy as I think a New phone should be.
Thanks in advance

Probably too many apps running in the background, mine is fast and snappy.

Yeah that sees to be the problem thanks

Kinetic scrolling parameters

I just moved from a Nexus One to the G2x, and the biggest thing that is bothering me at the moment is the way kinetic scrolling works. On the Nexus One, it felt very natural, but on the G2x, it feels wrong, sort of like the feeling you get in a revolving door with a speed governor. As an example, on the Nexus One if I gave the list of cities in Groupon a really fast swipe, it would scroll all the way through the list without stopping, just gradually slowing down over a period of a couple of seconds. With the G2x, the same swipe only gets me through a third of the list. I have the same kind of feeling in a long web page in the browser, too, but there's another annoying effect, too: it seems to take ages to finally stop moving -- sort of like the "friction" is too high when the list or web page is moving quickly, but it's too low when the list is moving slowly.
Anybody else feel the same? Is there any setting anywhere to control that?
I feel ya. Like flicking jelly. Only scrolls like a page. No big deal but yea.
Like heavy weight setting.

i thought it was just me, or the launcher i'm using. hopefully a cooked rom will improve this.

Yeah, that's probably going to be my number 1 motivation for moving to a new ROM when they come out.
I noticed this as well... scrolling quickly is no big deal, I just flick a couple times in a row instead of just once. The coasting slowly to a stop is a little annoying but I'm already used to it.
I don't like it either.
And WTF is up with pinch zooming in the gallery app? That **** is mental.
It definitely takes some getting used to. Can't wait for an update or some Cyanogen goodness.
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA App
There *has* to be a way to control this. Scrolling in some apps (like Firefox) feels completely different.
Ain't that bad. Annoying... but meh. I know custom roms will fix it.
Most of the little quirks are just software bugs that I'm simply overlooking for the time being.
Yeah, definitely annoying. When trying to scroll straight up and down a webpage, it goes diagonally and just feels like the page is "floating". Definitely different than any other phone I've used.
I'm coming from an n1 too. It is definitely different. I am having the added problem of the page shaking if I hold my finger on the screen. Very annoying. Can anyone else report similar behavior?
The scrolling is getting on my damn nerves. I hope it gets fixed soon.

Coming from a Nexus One.. initial thoughts

Just got my T-Mobile HTC Sensation in the mail today.. haven't popped in my SIM card yet, just playing with it a bit to see how I like it. My initial thoughts:
Very well built, feels great in your hand, doesn't feel heavy or bulky at all. Big thumbs up
The viewing angles really are bad.. unless you look at it straight on, a black background becomes gray and the image becomes cloudy. I'm probably spoiled by the AMOLED on the N1, but that's my reaction.
The browser is silky smooth! You can pinch-zoom at will, everything is crisp and sharp. But again, it looks washed out to me.
The launcher IS LAGGY. There's just no other way to put it. Swiping homescreens is laggy, pinch zooming out to see all of them is laggy and choppy, and a factory reset didn't solve that problem.
Camera and camcorder are good! Video framerates are good even in low light.
I know LauncherPro would probably fix the lag, but then where is that Dual Core performance? What's the point of designing such a grand 3D interface if the homescreens aren't smooth?
That screen is really bothering me... I thought I would be okay, but despite the resolution I like the Nexus One display better, just because it always looks great even if it's sitting on your desk and you glance at it. With the Sensation, you just see a washed out glow... yuck.
Sorry if this sounds really harsh, but these are my gut initial reactions. I really want to like this phone.. let's see!
The 'dual-core' is more marketing. It adds nothing to the phone's performance. I previously had a G2X and it was slower than my Nexus S. I'm just hoping this phone that I have ordered won't reboot 3x's a day.
you must have had a bad g2x. i've had both and the g2x was way faster than both the nexus s and the sensation.

Like the previous poster said. You must have had a bad G2X (like 99% of the people who own one) because the G2X I had was the quickest Android device I have ever used (including the Nexus S). Dual Core is not a marketing term. Android just hasn't utilized the two cores yet (except for Honey Comb). I can attest to games playing at a higher frame rate on both the Sensation and the G2X than they did on my Vibrant, Nexus S and Nexus One.
To the OP....Once I turned the animations off and that stupid animated weather when unlocking the phone, the lag went away. I now have no lag when deleting items from the home screen, transitioning home screens and opening the app drawer. When I kept the phone stock like HTC sent it, it did in fact lag a little but not much. In my opinion HTC put to much animation into Android without having hardware acceleration.
The lag comes from HTC sense...it's an awesome UI for customization and features, but uses a lot of resources.

I'm also coming from an N1
-Agree on the build quality. Only thing I can say is that I feel a little bit shaky about the actual release button for the back cover but no biggy.
-I feel you on the bad viewing angles
-Agree on the browser
-You know what, I don't have that many apps on my phone but my phone is not laggy, pretty responsive actually, I would say more so than my N1.
-Haven't messed around with the camera too much yet.
One thing though I was sad to shelf the AMOLED on my N1 but am not as disappointed as I thought I would be. Yes the viewing angles are BAD I do admit that but I'm pretty happy with my straight on view of the display. It is very vibrant head on and not far off from the quality of the N1. I wonder if there are multiple screen manufacturers... When I got an MT4G, now that display SUCKED!!! totally washed out even head on. I heard they improved the screens in the later batches but it was nasty. Screen on the sensation is 10x better but no AMOLED.
I exchanged my sensation for a new one today.the 3 hours i was using my nexus one i missed the sensation so much lol. The big screen and higher res ftw
Try GoLauncher and there should be no lag.

I tried turning off the animations, but it's still a tad choppy.. I'm pretty sure it's just Sense, because I did go ahead and install LauncherPro, and it's smooth as butter. But again, then you lose all those nice Sense widgets (which I like).
I think Sense without the 3D animations, and with a standard scrollable app drawer would be the perfect combination.
note: One huge disappointment.. just like my N1, the Sensation browser is very choppy when browsing XDA forums. Really weird.
Hope to add a few comparisons soon
This may sound petty but if you don't have a 4g sim card that will slow you down also I only say this because you are coming from a nexus one

A SIM card has nothing to do with the phone's UI being choppy.

Not necessarily true. Im using the SIM card from my N1 in my G2X now and getting great 4G speeds. No.changes to my plan either.
Just a shot my wife had issues with her mt4g being slow then she was told she didn't have a 4g sim card then after she got one there has been no lag

Coming from an N1 myself. I agree on the display. I used my N1 as an alarm clock in the dock and you could get it very dark. On the lowest brightness, the Sensation is like a beacon lighting up the whole room. Viewing angles are not great, but I dunno...I'm usually looking directly at my phone so I doubt it will be a huge issue. The N1 certainly spoiled me....
Some other thoughts:
The notification LED is almost worthless...I didn't even see it until day two of using the Sensation. A strange location and it isn't very bright.
Build quality is excellent, although the "sharp" edges on the front can make it sorta strange to hold...I'll probably get used to it.
After coming from stock Android on an unlocked N1 (not rooted), I can say I am looking forward to this thing being rooted so I can remove the dozens of silly apps I will never use. Very frustrating. Especially since I got one for my Dad and I know seeing a bunch of apps he doesn't want is going to confuse him.
I'm split on sense. I like a few of the widgets and I really like the unlock screen, but having duplicate applications is annoying (a "sense email" and "gmail", a "sense calendar" and "calender", etc). All in all, I would probably opt to remove it and return to stock Android if I could.
The Facebook integration is nice with one glaring problem: It auto syncs the facebook contacts. Not a big deal in the "contacts" app because you can hide them. However, go write a text message and it draws from the "people" app which has no ability to hide contacts and shows them all at once and multiple entries if they have more than one phone number. So I would go to write a text message and see a few hundred people from facebook that I barley know and would never want to text. The only way I could get rid of them was to disable the HTC facebook app, download the official one from the market and then opt not to share any contact info from Facebook. It works just like it did on my N1 (no FB integration, just go to the app) but it just seems silly that they thought of this issue on the contacts display but not for text messaging because the integration is actually sorta cool. For instance, it would download profile pictures for all of my contacts and even show recent status updates in the contacts view. Too bad they botched it on the text messaging.

I too switched from a nexus one to the sensation. i love it soo much the only thing i dont like is it seems the data stops randomly when i have full 4g. maybe its my network in colorado but thats a little annoying. other than that with launcher pro and gosms it runs soooo smooth and no lag at all. multitasking is awesome!! when running music beta browser and other appz.
somethings up cause i have no chop. it's butter smooth. ans i have turned none of the animations off.

Screen sensitivity

Hey guys, my son plays a Batman Lego Movie game and it's similar to Subway Surfer. He was telling me last night the screen is not very sensitive compared to his S8. Has anyone encountered anything the same? I don't play too many games but I wonder if this is something on all of the PH1s or just mine.
Sent from my PH-1 using Tapatalk
I noticed the same thing but I'm not a gamer. I have to touch some things twice to get it to do what it's supposed tozoo
I am noticing the same thing! I haven't noticed it in games since I don't game but I do have to tap things twice sometimes. I thought it was just me! Haha

Same here. Also seems to have micro stutters when scrolling. Not smooth scrolling at all.
Sent from my SM-G955U1 using Tapatalk
Scrolling isn't too bad. Overall I really like the device. Build quality is exceptional. Haven't had it long enough to comment on battery or camera. Might actually keep it over the note.

oh... I'm not liking this. I'm not a gamer, but I like my phones to be responsive. I swear my Nexus 6P sometimes picks up the heat of my finger before I actually touch. That is sensitive!
Reporting same issue of having to tap things twice to register.
Agree similar issues here but some fanboy is going to come and say we all are just making this up to make look essential bad. When so many people are complaining that basic stuff isn't working properly you know this company wasn't ready software wise for the launch. Looks like they wanted to rush it out before the fall launch of major phones.
Considering that is an adjustable setting in some way (Since some other devices have a "Glove mode" and whatnot) I wonder if this can be adjusted in software easy enough in an update or given to us as an option. (Or heck, get root, make changes. )
Also, remember the phone does have a lot of rejection detection built in mainly because you will be touching the edges much easier on the device than you would most others. This for sure can cause sensitivity problems but just to check, how does the phone do one handed without anything near the edge of the screen?
It's just a thought but I notice this with other devices (my U11 even has this issue and I do dislike it vs my 6P and G3 even).

(also I feel that game is less Descent feeling than Overload. Overload feels perfect while Descent Underground just feels and looks, off.)

Lol, well ok, not a phone gamer! Ugh. No.
Good point in the edge thing, that is where I notice it most like top corner 3 dot.
Thanks for pointing that out.

Could they really adjust sensitivity with a software update?

Same!
I am finding screen sensitivity issues as well. I don't see any scrolling issues though. Just seems like I have to touch things a couple times. Especially the keyboard when typing
I'm fortunate in that I'm not having any sensitivity issues, or scrolling issues.
Some apps do seem to have issues with the what would seem to be a screen resolution issue (textra for example) where the inputs are off by a few pixels. Maybe this is what y'all are experiencing?
This is my second day with the phone, it's definitely smoother than day one. I'm guessing the OS was optimizing.

Same here no issues with that.
I need TWRP to restore all my data.
I need TWRP and root to get rid of all the stinking ads everywhere.
I notice it as well while playing clash royale, really annoying.

It's definitely this, I can't reorder stats in the fitbit app. I tried plugging in a USB mouse and it still didn't work so it's not the touch.
I haven't noticed any issues with having to tap the screen twice, however I have noticed while typing the haptic feedback sometimes seems like it misses a letter or two. The action registers and the letter appears but i get no vibration for some reason. It's been pretty sporadic. Maybe an AOSP but since we're so close to stock?

I seem to be having the same issues... starting to get very frustrating.
I'm not having any sensitivity issues. Are you seeing them after installing any apps?

Struggling to swipe

Is anyone else struggling to swipe? Swiping up for apps is an absolute nightmare it just wants to swipe to the left or right instead, and when your flicking through photos sometimes it swipes fine next it's really hard unless you literally pull your finger all the way across the screen, my old phone was a redmi note 8 pro and didn't have a problem at all with this.
Nope i mean i have some problems with bottom gesture but idk if its better after reflash whole 2gb rom or i just get use to it
Seems like a hardware problem to me, or it could be the screen protector, try removing/swapping it
Getting this as well
I also have this problem, its really triggering me, lol.
In 80% of the cases its totally fine, really snappy. But for the rest, the swipe snaps back to the current panel. It seems for me, that swiping horizontally is fine (for example when scrolling through Facebook).
Was about to send this phone back, but maybe there is a solution or other people with this issue.
I think a lot of this might be down to the poco launcher. I have replaced mine with Lawnchair 2 (along with lawnfeed) and everything feels better.
+1 it's the launcher indeed much better now with other launcher thanks for the tip
I had forgotten to update to MIUI 12.0.2 which has been released recently:
https://www.xda-developers.com/down...ing-out-several-xiaomi-redmi-mi-poco-devices/
After that, it "seems" to be more responsive.

This phone feels like a different device once you change the launcher.
No lags or stutters!
Even at 60Hz it's just so smooth..
Its better but not solved still some weird behaviour in touch in different apps like facebook and playstore for example. In these apps it still feels uncomfortable/crampy.
I suggest you all sent a mail to [email protected]
I got a response from them but the more you guys report this the faster they will push updates

Thanks mate. Tried it with Nova and it's a lot smoother
I also have stutter in the drawer and the multitask view, both when scrolling. Is a software issue, hope they will fix soon. Now I will use nova launcher for few days to see if something change.

Question Scrolling issues

Been noticing that scrolling seems off. When scrolling through home pages, it sometimes takes 2 or 3 swipes to go to the next page. Anyone notice this?
Yes, same with swiping up on apps to close them. Seems you just need to swipe a little more aggressively/quickly though and all is well.
Yeah, I came from a 13 pro max and the scrolling was flawless. I feel like I have to keep my finger on the screen to finish a swipe on the pixel, it's pretty annoying.
Is it as noticable when you turn off Smooth Display?

It's one of the first things I turn off as I prefer speed over style but you're right in that there needs to be a balance or a fix. With it on, the phone feels slow/laggy especially scrolling down webpages
It's probably enough for me to return the phone. I can't go back to 60hz lol, it hurts my eyes. I wonder if the 6pro has the same issues.
So another bug, wondering if I made the right decision ordering one of these yesterday!
All new handsets have bugs, although this seems to have more than normal. Hopefully this one will quickly be fixed with an update. There is no way I'm spending the best part of £900 on a phone to only have the screen usable on 60hz.

Can't say I've noticed an issue. What refresh rate is being displayed when you scroll?
Went to my local Currys and played around on the demo unit there for around 20 minutes. Really like the feel of it, looking forward to getting mine now.
Anyway, for what it's worth I found absolutely no evidence of this issue with smooth display enabled. Everything worked fine on web pages and in the UI (settings menu for example) with the scrolling silky smooth and zero lags, stutters or delays in touch responses.

Definitely some weird scrolling issues. Maybe it's on an old fw or because it's on demo mode and processing etc is bumped up to max. I wonder if they're messing about with the touch boost to try and increase battery life?
