[Completed] help needed with samsung note 2 (sgh-i317) unable to mount storage - XDA Assist

Hey guys im actually new here and i needed help with my friend's note 2. Apparently his note 2 was stuck at the recovery mode where it asks for emergency firmware recovery through kies but then after trying to connect it, kies did not show anything and whenever i tried to flash it with a stock rom using odin it gave a faliure at system.img while installing twrp trough odin was a success so i tried to wipe data off which in turn gave me more errors about data, system etc and it showed that it was unable to mount storage i.e. it showed both the internal and external storage as 0mb. I tried changing the type of the drive but it was of no use also the knox warranty void counter was at 1 at the download menu (vol down + power) if that is of any use.
Thanks in advance

update: after a lot of trial and error i have realised the problem is with the phone's partition and it doesnt have one at all nor does it show any partition before twrp flash which in turn led to the failures. So can anyone help me on how to create a partition for android?
P.s. at this point even my sd card is showing 0mb or in short it is not being recognised.

Greetings and welcome to xda, try this thread here

There will be an emergency firmware package in there that should be able to repartition your device. Make sure to read carefully as it can cause issues using the wrong firmware

E:format_volume: rfs format failed

(For the ones who will ask, yes i have read a lot of threads with this problem and tryed almos all of them, and i even read about other phones with this problem so the point is fix this.)
Hi,
I write cuz i got this problem in mi sisters galaxy i9003 SL.
Shi is a basic user, just use the phone for calls and whatsapp. It had Pou and go Locker installed and nothing else.
The phone got slow so we decided to do "factory reset", but it doesnt formated and keep the user information even programs, so decided to flash the phone so it would be forced to wipe the data, i'vr got the same phone and flashed it a lot of times.
Flashed with odin 1.85 the PIT (latona) and no problem
Then XXKPE 4 Files, and it seems no problem, but it didnt restart so got into bootloop.
So re flashed XXKPE.
Here is when the problem starts, the phone got into a strange mode, at last i never saw it before, i ve got the android robot saying something about kernel with a loading bar, i let the phone work til it got discarged, but when i turned it on again i ve got the problem(E:format_volume: rfs format failed). Then the phone stopped charging. i manage to enter recovery mode but for my surprise it was the normal recovery from samsung and i flashed clockworkmod and even tested it. So i re flashed clockworkmod and it works, but if i flash anything it comes back to samsung recovery mode. i still can get to download mode.
I have tryed the following:
Re flash room stock entel chile ------> problem
Re flash XXKPE 4 archivos---------> problem
Re Flash clockworkmod-------> works but if i flash anithing it comes to samsung recovery again.
Re flash Kernel-------> problem
I have read about the dead memory of the phone an take it back with a SD card, i dont want to sorry. Here the SD card costs more than the phone.
So i want to try tosolve this. not a very advanced user, but i can learn quickly.
I'm open to ideas.
Thanks.

so what you are saying is every time you try to flash something... even your stock firmware via odin the phone just resets to its orignal state (i.e E:format_volume: rfs format failed).what I see from here is your device system data has been completely formatted but failed to flash any firmware.... try with memory card and sim card removed and flash KPE(all files)... there isn't any need to flash any kernel on stock so just avoid it...
follow these steps
*Get samsung USB drivers and install on the pc/laptop.
*Download ODIN and the KPE files.(for I9003 only)
*Connect your phone in Download mode.
*ODIN will detect the device and flash the stock.
*If your flash was successfull you will get your phone back in running condition.
GOODLUCK

The internal SD might be broken like mine.
Try boot into recovery, then adb shell, execute and paste output in this thread again:
Code:
ls -l /dev/block/mmcblk*
fdisk -l /dev/block/mmcblk0
fdisk -l /dev/block/mmcblk1
There are several ways it can get broken, and i know a few ways to customize firmwares to workaround them.
i faced this problem in I9000 & I9003 and solution is .....
get memory card and format it on yr pc
make file system is fat32
when done put sd card into phone
flash the phone with pit file
make sure to mark repartion
and when done
yr phone work just fine
P>>S
never get out this sd card from phone
or it will go to loop mode again
try and post result here

[Completed] gt s7392 unable to mount/wipe data

Hey guys i need help. I recently rooted my samsung galaxy trend gt-s7392, so that i can install a custom rom. I have used odin and installed cwm and then installed twrp mod for my device. I still havent wiped my system rom but inorder to install the custom rom i was trying to format the /data partition but for some reason it was stuck in cwm. So i switched to twrp to tackle the problem. But according to logcat , twrp is unable to mount the /data partition and the /data partition shows 0mb in total size and in free space. I cannot mount or format the /data partition but all other partitions are working well and can be mounted and formatted. And if i try to reboot my system in its current state then it just gets stuck in a bootloop. Please tell me what to do so that i can mount and format the /data partition to install the stock or any custom rom. Any help is appreciated. Please help!
Hi, thank you for using XDA Assist. You shouldn't have both CWM and TWRP on your phone at the same time. Something didn't work right right when you tried to replace cwm with twrp. You might have to return your device to stock and start over.

Please help i think i have messed it up pretty bad. My phone boots into recovery but it only shows loading bar in cwm and the picture of an android. I can still boot into download/odin mode but my phone can neither boot into system nor can i use adb shell commands. I cannot even use cwm recovery sice it only shows loading. Please Please Please Help!!!!
Don't panic. Unfortunately there is not a specific forum for your device on XDA. But what you'll want to do is flash the stock firmware in odin.
- Goggle odin 3.07 xda. Extract that and install it on your pc.
- Download the stock firmware from sammobile.com You have to register but it's free. You'll download a zip file. Use 7-zip or winrar to extract it. You'll end up with a .tar.md5 file. That's what you'll use in odin.
- Star odin on your pc
- Put your device in download mode and connect it to your pc with the usb cable
- Using the PDA slot in odin find the .tar.md5 file
- Only have f. reset and auto-reboot checked in odin. DO NOT have re-partition checked.
- run odin
Note: odin can be finicky. Use the usb ports in the back of the PC. You might have to try different usb ports and cables

twrp's giving me that unable to mount or 0mb internal storage..

soo... i have a fully functional working samsung s7 rooted with the latest magisk and twrp recovery. after all the installation of apps and the root itself, i hopped into twrp recovery just to see if it was also working - turns out it's not reading any partition; leaving me with 0mb internal storage or unable to mount. i would also try rebooting but as soon as i enter "recovery" on twrp, it would automatically boot itself. i've tried researching for the problem but i don't think my research is good enough. i've looked out for multiple solutions, but i couldn't trust any. just wondering if any professionals on xda are able to fix this flaw. thanks!
tldr? working rooted s7, twrp recovery 0mb, automatically rebooting itself, couldn't find solution.
update: it's all gucci, i've managed to figure it out.
Have you tried the patched twrp version? There is a link in google camera port thread. I havent tried but that could work.

not a professional but coincidentally this happened to me today while rooting and installing twrp on my s7 sm-g930L 8.0, i installed twrp 1st and was just using a supersu.zip to root it, booted straight into twrp after flashing and had the same problem you have and couldnt install the zip as it wasnt showing up and also saying 0mb, i couldnt even send the zip to it from my computer either until i pressed format in the wipe menu next to advanced wipe button , it was in a bootloop so i hit format cause i was just gonna reinstall stock firmware but i noticed all the correct mb's appeared in system data etc and i could copy/paste n install the zip, flashed it rebooted and it all works, rooted and twrp on official fw 8.0, you might have to reinstall apps and stuff after but hopefully this helps, goodluck

INSTRUCTIONS BELOW WILL DESTROY ALL DATA ON PHONE GET BACKUPS IF YOU CAN'T IM NOT RESPONSIBLE
Get rid of encryption if you can then try
If you can't get rid of encryption or it didn't work then
Goto wipe and press format data
Type yes and press the tick at bottom left
Then once you see success or error messages go back to wipe
Swipe it to wipe internal memory
After success or error message shows you are most likely to be able to see and mount to internal storage.

Try using superman rom and use option called disable encryption that might work,
If you just wanna root then install magisk because it works with encryption

Accidentally wiped int. sd card, no pc-usb connectivity + corupted initial bootscreen

Hey all,
A few days ago I did something very stupid and wiped the internal SD card which obviously bricked my phone down to download-mode, after which I initially flashed back a stock firm file which didn't help. After a lot of freaking out I remembered I had a TWRP-backup so I recovered this and my phone booted back up with IMEI in place and in/out calling+texting working.
Only things the backup couldn't fix are
1. PC - phone connectivity through USB doesn't work at all (besides when in download mode), it just charges and doesn't give me an option to choose or switch USB-mode. When connected while in TWRP there still is no connectivity, even after enabling MTP. Most importantly, Windows device manager doesn't seem to detect anything at all when I plug or unplug my phone but interestingly enough USB-OTG is working without a hitch so I have no clue as to why regular USB won't work on any pc :x
2. The initial boot screen (The one without animation saying Samsung Galaxy S6) somehow got corrupted and shows a somewhat glitched up download-mode screen before booting into system or recovery.
Anybody able to lend a hand?
if you can get to download mode and USB connectivity works, shouldn't you be able to flash stock firmware using OIDN?
Yeah I am able to flash, I already tried that and it did not help with either of the issues :/
Interestingly enough USB-OTG is working without a hitch so I have no clue as to why regular USB won't work on any pc :x
Have you tried flashing a 4-part firmware with PIT file and Re-Partition & Nand Erase All options checked in Odin ?

No I have not, I'd need to hunt this 4-part firmware down first + backup everything on there
Can I just restore a twrp-backup afterwards? or might that give me troubles?

Flash a 4-part firmware w/ PIT + Re-Partition and Nand Erase All to be back on a healthly base, then flash TWRP and restore your backup.
You can download a 4-part firmware using the SamFirm tool (Binary Nature checked in the software).

This piece of advice fixed all my problems, thank you Only thing I ran in to was which PIT file to use since g920f has OPEN, OPEN_HIDDEN100M and OPEN_HIDDEN150M .PIT available and I do not know what the difference is between these (I ended up going with the non-HIDDEN one).

Samsung Galaxy J4+ (SM-J415GN) Stuck in download mode..

Hi Guys,
I'm having problem flashing stock rom or custom rom using Odin 3.13 or 3.14 version. I also encounter where my internal storage drops to 10GB from 32GB. I"m getting several errors in Odin like Auth Fail, re-partion failed using a PIT file from the extracted csc file firmware that iv'e downloaded and now I'm getting the failed to mount /odm (invalid argument). Recovering my backup file in twrp didn't succeeded too.
I need your help devs. I've attached a pic where the phone boots to download mode always.
Badly need your help guys, I'm running out of solutions.... please please.
Thank You! Thank you in advance.
This is sad. Not getting any help... I guess my phone is dead in the water...
1- download odin for your phone model forum and twrp specific to your device
2- open odin make settin uncheck auto reboot and paste twrp in ap before you go in phone to download mode by vol+ and vol- and power after switch off, phone goes to download mod
3- then start, after it passes green, you have to install specific files found in ashyx forum page
4- then wipe format data and advanced wipe- dalvik, system, cache, data
5- install custom rom of your choice and reboot to system

Okay I think thats not downloading mode that you were looking for. The screen need to turn blue/skyblue know that you're moving to the right direction. And going to this mode you need to search about it then come to Odin
