Disabling Wifi for the sake of son's grades..... - ONE Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, quick (strange) question. How can I disable the wifi on my son's OnePlus One so that he cannot connect to wifi networks even if he tries?
I have disabled cellular data through T-Mobile but he can still connect to the schools wifi and he gets distracted during classes as a result....
One is currently running stock cyanogen OS build MHC19Q but will root again if needed.
Can I just remove a system app for wifi with titanium backup to meet my goal?? Then reinstall it later as needed?
Thanks in advance for any help, apologies for noobish question....

I believe u can restrict the wifi on the mobile which u dont want to use. Try for the option in wifi settings

Installing a very early version of a kernel (if available) might be an option.

How cruel!
Maybe you just need to restrict the use of the phone. If your son works out how to use TWRP then re-enabling WiFi will not be a problem.

Why not get a cheap dumbphone that can only do calls and texts?
On CM13 at least you can lock apps so that you need to enter a password to open it, don't know if oxygenOS has a similar feature. There's plenty of apps on the play store with the same feature. You could just password lock all the apps that are distracting him during class
This might be something useful:

Smart AppLock 2 is one of the most widely used App locker for Android. Justifying its name, the Smart AppLock does the work of protecting your apps very smartly.
It can easily lock apps containing privacy content, such as your photos, videos(Gallery), SMS, call logs etc. Also, it can be used to lock incoming calls, Wifi and Bluetooth toggle switch and much more. Users can also lock system settings, installing and uninstall of apps to keep phone away from being messed up by others or kids.

Selective 3g access app by app

does anybody know of an app or function which allows me to selectively enable or disable 3g data access for certain apps?
I would need to have e-mail and calendar sync operating in push mode (i.e. all times on/connectable), but would like to suppress data connections for some other apps when there is no wifi connection.
i don't have (don't get) an unlimited data plan and android/some apps seem quite talky =). And I only have 100-250megs/month available.
I know there is an iptables firewall available for certain ROMS but it has not (yet?) been ported to Samsung Galaxy. Furthermore my guess is, a firewall would generally disable access, not only on 3g connections.
ty in advance
im in the exact same position you are with the same phone haha.
i would also love to know whether it's possible because i have a feeling the weather widget im using is trying to get information when i dont want it to.
My guess is, that the weather widget is just one of many =)
Hope there will be some positive reply on this
UltimateJuice, the pay version of the free JuiceDefender has a feature that can enable/disable data per app that is currently running. On top of that, it has a plethora of data on/off options that should be looked into regardless

that sounds not bad already. do you know if it is possible to set some access-blocking based on connection type?
TY
I don't have the pay version myself, but I don't think it has rules for connection type. What exactly do you mean by connection type?

It does the have controls for automatic turning on WiFi based on certain conditions, but it doesn't look like it gets to the point of being app-specific.
I think it's easier if you consult the official website, lol http://www.latedroid.com/2010/01/juicedefender.html
Any other ideas? Cus that seems to be a taff one
Am I thinking in the wrong direction?
APNDroid is not a solution since it essentialy kills of all traffic over GSM and e-mail + calender sync is a must have for me...
Check out DroidWall in the market. It seems to work for me. I enable all apps to be able to use wifi and disabled most apps via 3G

Droidwall only runs in some ROM´s, in those which includes certain modules in kernel compilation.
It´s not working on my HTC Desire custom ROM, so i bought JuiceDefender weeks ago and happy at the moment with its works.

[Q] lost galaxy s3, no internet connection on, no security apps preinstalled

hello, everyone!
my bad if this post is misplaced but couldn't really find a good answer to my specific problem.
basically, i lost my sgs3 today. it had no security apps like android lost, lookout etc. installed and neither wifi nor mobile data were on. have installed from my desktop android lost, but since the phone has no internet connection i don't see how this app can ever be pushed onto the phone.
so basically, my question is if there is anything to be done here? perhaps any code or instruction sent by sms that would trigger the mobile data on!!! i don't suppose so!
anyway, whatever you might think of, i'd appreciate any help!
i'll call the gsm provider at some point to deactivate the sim, unless i can find a way first to locate the phone using their network signal.
many thanks!

Hello, I have recently started having the same issues with my F6 not being able to load any background data as well. I believe your solution can lye within the apps that are being used. I Use a stock ROM too for my phone as there are no others out yet for it, and so, I also use ROM toolbox. This morning i could not for the life of me remember what i was doing to make the phone function this way, but remembered that i was dabbling with the DNS and server operations on ROM toolbox the night prier. I was a bit frustrated that there was no easy answer posted anywhere online (google) and had to figure it out myself.. (not so bad) . and since i have been constantly figuring out my ROMS abilities on STOCK I have acquired much knowledge for the F6 root and recover operations. IF you are having problems with any data being transmitted between apps and have been disabling ads through ROM toolbox be sure to make the right changes. For when you wake up to having no data app connection and your clearly connected to the internet it can become jarring.
hope this helps

Phone Hacked... Again.

I have a Galaxy SIII mini which has been hacked 4 times in the last 8 months that I have had it. Usually, the first 3 times, were kids doing pranks, turning on my bluetooth, etc but this last hack was malicious. Started turning on my GPS, bluetooth, and camera flash light then progressed to changing my system language and finally making it so that my sim couldn't connect to any cell towers. I have tried app locks, but this last time inspite of two seperate app locks, he succeed with ease to change my settings. I also subscribed to a VPN with a NAT firewall and that didn't help at all either. Now I have redid the OS again, this time installing CM 11 and I welcome any suggestions on how I can stop this from happening all of the time. Thank you.

what kind of hack are you talking about? is someone using your phone, or remotely accesing it?
remotely accessing it. no one has physical access to my phone.
You should set a encryption password for your phone and use the app : Lockdown pro to restrict access to everyone who don't know the password.
Stay tuned for my first CM11 theme soon.
What do you mean by encryption password? You mean to encrypt my phone?
I did install that app. One thing that I really like about it is it's ability to stop the installation of apps which is what I think that the hacker is doing: installing some sort of app on my phone.
Settings > Security Settings - Encrypt phone > see instructions there .
@Gaon101
Stay tuned for my first CM11 theme soon.
After doing more reading online, I believe that the hacker(s) may have their own 'cell network' and may be exploiting my phone whenever it connects to it. How can I prevent this from happening if that is the case?

Is there a way I can disable and LOCK wi-fi and data settings?

Basically I want to turn my son's smart phone into a "dumb" phone. I still want him to be able to make/receive calls and txt msgs are ok, I just don't want him to be able to surf the web and play games all day. (It's a school grades issue, if he bring's em up we'll gladly restore his privileges!)
The phone in question is a Samsung Galaxy S5. I know I can turn off Data and Wi-Fi, I just don't want him to be able to go in and turn it back on without a password. Is that an administrator'ish thing that's built in or I can activate in Android? Are there any Play Store apps for that? I'm not terribly savvy but I'm not afraid to root if necessary...
Of course, substituting his Galaxy with a flip phone is always an option, too...

I don't know what you can do with mobile data. But you can restrict wifi to a device. Log in to your router and enable internet access priority setting under qos. Set priority to devices. Set medium or low priority to restrict device.
If you manage to root your device then you can use wifikill, network spoofer and netcut apps to disconnect other users from wifi.
I hope it help you.

You can password lock his system settings so he can't turn WiFi on and if you turn off mobile data he can't turn that back on either.

This app is perfect for what you want to do. I'm not a fan of third party apps. Especially ones that deal with security. But I used this for years.
