Hello,
I have an interesting problem to solve. Your insights or ideas will be helpful. I have purchased "Automatic Call Recorder - ACR" and its license app (separate app that needs to be purchased installed). Since the apps are alphabetically ordered on my mobile, I changed the ACR apk (using APKEdit) to XACR. The app works well but it cannot detect the license app and provides only free features.
Is there any way I can make it detect the license app? I tried to rename the license app by adding 'x' but didn't work. Within the APK, is there a location where I can tell/configure the APK to find the correct app?
If this requires a lot of time and efforts, I would be ready to pay (depends on how much is your ask).

I understand this is a genuine request, but xda is not a place where anyone can come to make money so payment is out of the question. The other part I'm also not sure about, we have to be careful when modding a license as it is a paid app so not something we could really discuss

Just buy the app, if you can afford to pay your monthly phone bill then I'm sure that you can drop a few dollars for the apps you want.
other?
So while we are on this subject, how are not allowed to post cracked apps? While I am against it the reasoning doesn't work. We will take the skype app, which is licensed, modify it and place it on xda. That is no different than taking someone else's app and making it suit our needs without permission.

I don't see a request for an alternative site as a request for hacked/stolen etc apps..
Unlocking features omitted for marketing purposes that are free elsewhere on the same app is a little bit of a grey area
Also the need for a major alternative freeware shareware app site is definite..

I'm also looking for a LEGIT alternative to the Google Play Store because I sometimes have DPI issues with the market and it gives compatibility errors. I want to clarify this, I just want another place to download .apks that are free on the market that isn't a shady DDL I found on google.
Guys, don't judge, it's possible the OP lives elsewhere where the entire play store is not available and he wants an app. That is a perfectly fine reason for piracy in my book.

There is nothing wrong with requesting free apps apk files, (though I highly recommend doing it in there Q&A section, not android apps & games) just look at this here. On there other hand, paid app apks, cracks to free apps to make then act like paid apps, or cracking apps to defrauded a company (i.e. The dropbox hack) all are considered Warez.
Also, app markets that do not link to Google Play (i.e. App Brainz links to Google play for downloads) are considered Warez markets & won't be tolerated.

Also: For anybody having DPI issues, have you tried this app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/...wxLDEsImNvbS5iaXJkYXBpLmFuZHJvaWQuZHBpcHJvIl0. (To install it set dpi to normal for your device, delete market data/cache, reboot into recovery, wipe cache/dalvik cache & then download from market, it'll let you change dpi without issues (so it says, I haven't tested it))
There's a new dropbox hack out there for 50gb for two years using sgs3 files. But I understand what you all are saying
Thanks for the info

think of it as App blog Android client, the content is not provided by me but the blog author
I'm just making it simple to download and browse for app in your smartphones easier
Answer the question. Linking to illegal downloads is no better than hosting them yourself. If your app provides access to illegal downloads, you'll be reported. The app crashes on my phone, so I cannot confirm it for myself. Answer vaguely again, and you'll be reported anyway
It does work and is illegal I would remove it if I were you....

As in a alternative app to the playstore?
Well you will first need alot of practice in android app development, learn everything that is java.
And then you will likely need some server side stuff to mange the apps on your market, so you will need to know about a server side scripting language, and have some kind of database to store everything.
This would be the very basics, if you wanted to sell paid apps etc you would have mange payments and worry more about security.
Or just pay someone to build it for you

Well as your question seems a bit confusing
If you want to create your own Playstore like app, what zachthespack said.
Or if you want to upload your own app into Playstore, you have to create a Playstore developer's account by paying a $25 registration fee, and then its simple as you can upload your apk.
More info could be found out here: http://support.google.com/googleplay/android-developer/?hl=en

Hi,
I want to mod Whatsapp on my own without using third party apps such as GBwhatsapp , Whatsapp plus, parallel space apk, appcloner apk...etc. I want to know how they do it.
What i Found
I tried using an android application that clones whatsapp and found there is two methods used:
1. Workspace Method: Parallel Space installs whatsapp in the root folder of the Parallel space application it self without changing in the code or any thing. There is several apps that do the same. ( I am not interested in this method)
2. Apk editing method: Appcloner apk, it clones whatsapp to a different name and allows modification to the app, but on one condition the original whatsapp version must be installed in order to verify the whatsapp number. (This is what i am trying to do manually) but i need to solve the problem where i dont need to install the original app in order to work(gbwhatsapp solved this problem but how?)
What i tried:
A.
I tried decompiling the whatsapp using (apktool, ApkEdit) then signing the app using zipsigner. The app gets installed but the problem is i cant get pass whatsapp verification number it gives an error and returns whatsapp to the first page:
"Something is wrong with your version of whatsapp. Please download the latest version from our website: https://whatsapp.com/android."
This is the error that i face and i want a fix for it.
B.
I used zipsigner on the original whatsapp apk file and signed the apk with new signiture then installed the app. I found that it gave the same error as above.
Conclusion:
Changing whatsapp apk signature prevents you from verifying the whatsapp number.
Can any one provide us with a fix how can we do this and mod our own version of whatsapp. I presume there is something to do with exposed since i found exposed modules in the decompiled folder for the cloned Whatsapp apk by appcloner and the apk gbwhatsapp.
Thanks

It IS ILLEGAL.By all standards.Modding an apk through Lucky Patcher is Technically legal as you are not modding the app rather than modding The Android OS Which is Open source. If the GBWhatsapp guy was in America or anywhere in sight of Whatsapp company he would be sued very hard. Also read XDA rules once before posting anything here.

It is highly unethical to post Modded apps on XDA if you don't own them.No matter how you try.Because you won't find anything on forums related to luckypatcher or Game guardian because modding apps and discussing them leads to legal notices leading to headaches being caused in xda.You can however name the app X and ask anyone how to do it.But you must no reveal your intentions. Also I challenge you to find a post related to lucky patching game guardian hacking or modding whatsapp or any app related to copyright infringement

If you think it deserves attention, report it instead of asking why it's still open.
On a separate note, after reading through the thread I'm letting it stay open. While OP references other modded versions of Whatsapp, he's not providing one himself that goes against rules 6 and 9 of the forum, available here.
Do note though, that POSTING something modified through illegitimate means is cause for further action. Especially so if they're modded by clearly frowned-upon ways, like Lucky Patcher.
Also Especially if they provide you features that you'd normally have to pay for or obtain otherwise.
I'm going to move this to a more suitable section, though.

It's not illegal to create mods of apks unless the modded app let's you use some service that is PAID in the original apk. Modifying or adding extra features to apps like Whatsapp is not illegal (One such example would be Youtube vanced, which is modded version of Youtube with no ads, etc etc).

Do some research before you say anything.
Here is a modded version of Youtube on XDA, YouTube Vanced.
And I don't see any copyright strike on this post that I linked. So, what's the thing that you challenged @simon.baker670? I'm sure he didn't ask anything about using Lucky Patcher or Game guardian for modding.
This is preety easy and simple to do.
You just need to Hook Java Signature api function so to bypass the security verification of signature to fix Login or ban issues. And then use custom key (only) for signing apk. You can use public sign but this may ban you. Now your modding is complete. Simply add the functions you want in whatsapp and use them for this you need smali modification skills and also have knowledge of java to make the modifications in whatsapp or kinda any android app. Its pretty easy to do modifications on any android apps.
Hope it helps. I know its kinda late but cant help it.
And to others who think if modding apps is illegal or not. Its illegal to mod any app without the consent of the company handling the app. To mod a apk you need a proper consent of the company and agreement just like a bug bounty program. But most companies dont bother because people basically just edit apk to put their names and make themselves cool. Anyways don't publish those apps that you mod, just make them for personal use.

Hey,

You are not blind my friend! they indeed removed the xda labs app store
" The main XDA app on the Play store will undergo a major update in the coming weeks to work with the new forum backend. Support for XDA Labs is tentatively ending at the end of this year, but we’re exploring options to keep it going, because we know that a small handful of developers use Labs to distribute their app. We’re hoping to open source and find a team to take the reins and continue development, and if you’re a developer that wants to work on Labs, send a PM to svetius. We’d be delighted if Labs could continue, but as a small technical team and we don’t have the resources to maintain it. Over the coming weeks we will be taking steps to inform any developer that is actively using Labs about this change so they can plan accordingly. "
