no one cares about this phone? - Miscellaneous Android Development

why so little development for z11? zte won't release kernel sources? nobody has bought it? it's too early? i find it to be a very interesting device, only software is not the best thing around....
by the way, i love brightness gesture on this z11, do you think it could be ported to other phones?

I currently own the Z7 mini and since ZTE releases fairly standard hardware, I expect the ROM-support to be more or less the same. Not too many ROM's but the most important like CM are there so it will likely be the same for this phone.
I was going to buy the Honor 8 but since there is no good chance at all that solid custom roms will be released for this phone, I am currently looking into the Z11. Beautiful design and the phone receives good reviews so I think I'll give it a shot.

I took the plunge and bought one on Ebay, UK seller arrived on Tuesday (18th Oct) after ordering on the weekend.
Stunning handset, I've had all this years mainstream 'flagship' handset (S7, G5, HTC 10), none of which really hit the spot for me (closest was the S7), i'm a fussy user, i love the fingerprint sensor on the rear but with capacitive buttons on the front. The screen is fabulous with the 1080p LCD nearly as good as the S7 in my opinion. The Bezel-less design is superb.
Only 2 minor issues for me with the Z11, the 2nd capacitive button is old school 'menu' rather than a button that goes to all open apps no percentage option for the battery in the status bar!
If i were really really picky i'd have the same thing but with a 5-5.2" screen so it fits for comfortably in the palm, it's not too big but i do prefer the S7 size (told you i'm fussy).
Nubia UI is so so, certainly not the worse but i use Action Launcher 3 so it's no issue for me.
I'd thoroughly recommend this to all.

Hi everyone. I just discovered this place and I am hoping to find what I need here. Your assistance is greatly appreciated. I just bought a Nubia Z11 6/128. It is a great device but the software leaves a lot to be desired. I am looking for someone in Dubai who can install a decent custom ROM for my Z11. I have no clue how to do it myself or where to even start. Is there anyone there???? Thanks.

I own a nubia Z11 and this is the far best phone i've ever used, tested or had a look. I strongly recommend to anyone who is looking for a new phone.

How long it last on battery?

[Q] Huawei or HTC? (odd question, sorry!)

Hi there quick questionif anyone can help I'd be so so grateful.
1:So I know a lot of this is subjective, but I'm in the very fortunate position of having an HTC One M8 and the Mate 7. I like them probably equally in terms of all of the things I have access to now, but I'm someone who is on Android for control and support (from XDA!)
I've noticed there's very very little about the Mat e7 on XDA, and Huawei in general to be honest. is this because they're still relatively new? Would it be fair to expect new roms/kernels lollipop etc to eventually come to this device? Or is the mate 7 a far more niche and limited device, and I'd be better off with my HTC in that respect? (For example, it feels like developers rush to make things work for popular devices, eg when the HTC M9 comes out Cyanogenmod, Carbon Rom etc will all be working on a veri=sion for that straight away, but the Mate 7 might not get that kind of attention?)
I'm very happy with the M8, it's just the fingerprint scanner and mega battery life are lovely on the Mate 7. I suppose basically the question is, is this a phone I can put my faith in enough to sell my HTC? I've barely even heard of Huawei :s If someone is either able to reassure me OR tell me I've got plenty to be worried about, either would be fantastic!
And maybe if anyone is able to comment on which phone they would choose, that might help me even more!
Cheers
For dev support, you can always rely on big names as samsung, lg, sony, motorola and htc. What you said is true -- there is little to no dev attention to the likes of huawei, lenovo, etc.
That said, I came from samsung tab and samsung note 2. The dev support was overwhelming. I flashed differnt custom rom every week just for the fun and thrill of using something new. But I got tired too.
Then I got the lenovo vibe z2 pro-- a relatively new monster of a phone too! But it does not even have a separate thread here in xda, and I could not even get a phone case locally! Lucke enough, my brother got my vibe z2 pro coz he loves the aluminum build so much and he will just continue to pay for it.
I have been eyeing the mate 7 since it was announced. Loved the unibody design, the humongous battery and the fastest fingerscanner in android! So when it was launched in the philippines about 2 weeks ago, I preordered and was the first owner officilaly in thr philippines! Thats how excited I am!
I was looking to have the silver color though, but only the gold one was released locally. Also the silver one is the 16gb/2gb combo. So for the future, its nice to get the 32gb/3gb combo.
I think it is somewhat guaranteed that the mate 7 would receive the loliipop update considering its the new flagship of huawei. I just dont know when.
Do I miss my old note? You bet I am! Inspite of touchwiz being bloated, there is so much you can do with it! Plus the spen has a while wide use and functionality I have never found in any phone!
For now, I am contented with my mate 7, unlocked and unrooted. I guess its the thrill of using something new. And for its many features, its definitely value for you rmoney.

Mate 9 and custom Roms?

I was thinking of getting Mate 9, and i just noticed that there are not much development of custom roms like other devices such as LG and samsung, is there a reason or just the mate series not getting much attention?

First and second both.
Reason - You can build working boot from kernel sources. But camera will not work.
And Mate 9 has not much developers.
But in defense of phone I can say that it is great device. We are able to root and Magisk, install every stock ROM, rebrand between localizations, use Xposed. Stock ROMs are good, quick and have many useful functions.

Oh thank you for your reply. :good:
can please explain what does the "rebrand between localizations" means? because i ve been reading it everywhere but not able to understand what does it mean and its purpose? and does that void warranty?
Also, someone told me on a forum that if you bought huawei from a specific region like Europe and you are using it outside of europe, as in not european simcard, you will not receive updates ? only until you use a sim related to where you bought the phone from? is this related to the "rebrand between localizations" ?
You are correct there is a few variants, Chinese normally get update faster believe it's running beta 8.0 atm
I have had many flagships in past 5 years, all oneplus, s7, s8, LG g5, 6p,
Pixel is my backup phone.
If you can get the mate 9 at a good price I swapped mine for an iPhone 7, as don't like Apple and prefer big screens.
It's a cracking phone.
The os is on par with oxygen imo.
Screen is great 1080p,
Battery life is exceptional 7hours sot out and about.
Rooted and using magisk for Android pay.
Ohhh and has stereo speakers

Rebrand between localizations means that you are able to buy Chinese model MHA-AL00 with Chinese ROM and rebrand to world ROM and vice versa.
Models are same by hardware.
About sim and updates - yeah, problem still exists. To get updates quickly after they released need phone with proper region/localization and proper sim.
So, I live in Russia and have Russian operator's sim. I bought European Mate 9 cause Huawei doesn't sell Mate's series in Russia (Russia is C10 in Huawei customization). My chances to get update on my MHA-L29C432 faster than European owners are very small. Fortunately, it is not problem to me.
P.s. I told that chances are small but they are not null. Huawei rolls on some ROMs to all after some time (about month)

Oh but a lot of users reported that huawei does not have a good customer support in case of issues with the phone and such. is it true?
What about updates? do you expect getting oero and so on OS ? since there are not a lot of custom roms?
tho i didn't like the fact the regional update lock based on the sim card region you are using.
but i love the good SOT.

Oppo A73 or F5 Youth Root? Re-post

Hello Xda People,
So I recently joined xda cause I need help, I recently bought a OPPO A73 in Australia (I live here), but I found out that in some other countries (Mostly Asian countries) it is also known as OPPO F5 Youth. Now, I've had this phone for around 5 months now and putting it straight out there, the software is Sh*t, I have had multiple hick ups and performance drops, it is a joke. I tried looking all over the internet for software updates for this specific phone but sadly there is non and this is the same story with rooting the phone, there is completely nothing about this A73. I have come here to find out if anyone has any idea how to root this phone or at least change the software to stock android (Although that might seem impossible as I don't now what the bootloader is) or even lineage (They do have OPPO as a brand they support but without a model ID its hard to tell if my phone model is supported). If there is way please let me know cause colour OS 3.2 is just slow and utterly disgusting to operate on. If you do need any information about my phone (CPU info, model number, hardware etc) please let me know and I'll post it upon request.
Thanks
Rainer

I got mine from Optus unlocked for $259, and same here, if I’ve known I wouldn’t have bought it, especially with the performance drop, it’s pretty bad. And it’s also frustrating how the normal f5 has a colourOS 5.1 update and the f5 youth, its literally the exact same doesn’t have one?? Like, I just want to root it and put any bloody os on it cause colour Os is killing the phone in my opinion. Glad to see I’m not the only one with this problem.
any luck with this yet? I have a friend who is suffering under the exact same issue with colorOS, it would be helpful to know if the bootloader is locked or if something like Kingroot app works on it?

No still no luck, thinking of just getting the Nokia 7 Plus or Oppo r15 Pro, unless I try to install lineage in a very dodgy way but hope it works!! I'll let you know, hopefully someone else out there is looking for a solution to this madness
Just a small update, I found nothing and was not able to root or install any sort of software, seems like OPPO is the Apple of android, their security is pretty high and it's a shame on what their phones are capable of but just held back with software. Going to sell my A73 or F5 Youth (Same phone, different country) and buy the essential phone. At least I'll have a good software experience and performance with a upgrade to the camera compared to the A73. Thanks for everyone who looked at this post or replied.
BUMP
yeah unfortunate oppo is like this
i am gonna try to sell it on gumtree for like $350 and see if anyone buys it. how much did you sell it for? hec i was able to install fortnite mobile on it but gpu isn't supported

Oh, I was going to sell it after my essential phone comes in from America, was going to sell it around the same price I purchased it but might sell it for less, honestly it's not worth the money.

Well, I have had 0 luck with kingo and even couldn't have downgraded because the new software has a bug that the lower section of the keyboard (with the space bar, enter and shift keys) would register twice to I'd get random full stops and constant caps which honestly just kills me. You are better off buying a Huawei P20 Lite (OR also known as Nove 3e) or something equivalent, they have decent software updates and specs, just try steer away from Oppo if you can.
recovery mode??
i pressed the power button, volume up and volume down idk but when i did that it booted in reocvery mode, i dont think this will help but maybe theres some way unlock bootloader woth this info
****ing oppo
phone slow as hecc youtube crashes man i thought 3 gbs of ram would be enough -_- man do i wish i could refund but hopefully getting a pocophone f1 soon, remember one plus being a budget phone ooooof, too bsd i never got that in its prime

For me this phone is long gone, I bought the essential ph-1 when I sold the Oppo A73 for $200 on facebook. The octocore isn't actually slow, the processor in the phone is decent and should be able to handle tasks well, HOWEVER, because of the heavy and very un-optimized software (ColorOS), the phone is very slow and is not stable with most apps on the play store. And no the phone can NOT be rooted.

Did you find root him؟؟؟
Please help
Unfortunately I also have this oppo a73 with 4gb/64gb variant. Moreover my a73 has developed problems like "unknown baseband version" and "IMEI null" and it has become totally useless since it can't access any cellular network.
Please help me to find any way to flash stock ROM on it which may correct its baseband version or please guide me how to root this pathetic mobile phone so I can rewrite it's IMEI after root permissions.
Thanks in advance

huawei no unlock bootloader

Before buying. Some questions

Hello fellow XDA users. I decided to change my aging mi5, my first thought was mi mix 2s, but i realized that almost none of the phones has home button nowadays, and maybe i'm old school, but it's kind of important to me. I realized that maybe only huawei and oneplus is the one which is keeping this feature, and since p20 is more pretty for me, i'm really onto buying it… but of course i'm not sure about it, i'm a sucker for stock android, and as i see, there isn't any custom rom here.
Are you generally satisfied with the Huawei rom? Is there anyone working on custom rom? If so, will it be any soon available? For users who are already having the phone, any regrets? Would you choose any different phone if you bought today?
Would greatly appreciate any answers,
cheers.
The Huawei ROM is fine, no limitations, all you need in my opinion. Never felt I have to change the ROM.
I loved the home button in my Honor 9 before. It works well on P20 but, somehow because of the position (bigger screen) the onscreen buttons are easier to reach.

Hi
I am living in UK and one of my chinese friend want to buy a new phone but not Apple.... He asked me and i was suggest P20. Now he want it to buy in China but using it in UK. So my question is the chinese OS will work in UK without limitations? I mean google map, google translation etc.? Or is only one "global" OS on P20 not like Oneplus where is HydrogenOS in Chinese region and OxygenOS for Europe etc.?

Advice: Nubia X innovation or Sony quality?

Hi to all. I am in for a new phone and I had my eye on an XZ2 or possibly XZ3 (Sony fanboy here).
Sony has the usual build quality plus the EU guarantee and I like the design, BUT I cannot help being attracted by the Nubia innovation.
I have never even touched a ZTE phone before, so I have no idea about the build quality.
They both work out about the same price for me with Nubia ordered from a Chinese online shop, therefore not much about warranty (This is a minus point).
Can anyone who has experienced both brands (or not) give me any serious advice? (I am aware about the gapps in Nubia and bootloader issues with XZ2).
Thanks to all!
(This is posted in both XZ2 and Nubia forums)
I was pleasantly surprised with the build quality of the Nubia X. Frankly - I love ti.
But to be honest, the phone is still not quite there looking from the point of the normal user.
If you're not in a hurry, I advice you to wait until the international version is available.

Thanks mate.
I am not in a hurry, but I have no problem with any software issues because I am sure they will be sorted out eventually and I am very comfortable in rooting / modding etc.
I worry about the quality and the guarantee / warranty.
BTW just before I checked this, I asked you a question in another thread, where did you buy it from and how much it costs.
Thanks and Happy New Year!
