Yesterday i rooted my Erisin with kingo and then i wanted to flash Viper4Android. In the Standard Recovery i saw that there is no Option to flash a zip file... So how did you guys do it?
Why flash ot and not just install it and grant it root acces and hotboot it? When u install it you can let it boot up when device boots.

Mighty_x, can you please tell me how did you root your erisin unit? I am getting mad trying to do so just for installing viper4a like you did.

Hey. It only worked with kingo root. (not king root)
There is a viper4android app and no need to flash the mod like I was used to. But actually I don't use it anymore after installing latest custom Rom because of the pumped sound in the system. Together with v4a its too much..

When I tryed to root with Kingoroot, APK Installer finished with a message like "Application not installed", and the unit is not rooted
Did you used the stock "APK Installer" or used another one?
I've red that Viper4Android needs a rooted device to do successfully its job.
I appreciate sincerely your opinion about the sound obtained with Viper4Android, but I need to test it
Kind regards!

I used the apk found here: http://de.kingoapp.com/
And I used the stock installer. Viper needs root, yes. Maybe redownload the apk?
Thank you Mithy_X, the problem was that, when the apk installer warns you about all the risks that has installing Kingoroot, you have to unfold the warning message and click on the hyperlink at the end of the text instead of clicking on the acceptance button of the window.
By the way, I have to disagree with you about the sound quality obtained with Viper4Android. If you adjust a flat equalization on the stock equalizer, and adjust correctly the Viper4Android controls, the sound enhances greatly. Not only the bass are deeper, but the highs are more brights, vocals more clean, and in general, the sound improve. You have to check the control about forcing V4A in all applications, just because, if not, sound player does not use it.
Regards!

I completely agree with you. I always use V4A...that's the main reason I bought a car android device in first place
You can also try to use the high quality IRS (Impulse Response Samples) from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2439254. It improves the sound quality a lot.

Wou, Devilsoft!!!! THANK YOU VERY VERY VERY MUCH!!!!!!!!!!
I didn't know about this irs filters for the convolver function. I really appreciate your advice!!!!
I'm a fanatic of the music and excellence in sound quality, having all my music in LP and in FLAC format. I know for sure that will enjoy this add-on.
By the way... Any good flac player? I've tried Player Pro and it really makes difference.
Kind regards!
Devilsoft, one question... Is there something to do for the convolver function to work properly? I have installed the IRS filters, activated the function and selected different filters, but I cannot appreciate difference... the rest of functions work very fine: Equalizer, Loudness, Rever... All but Convolver, that seems to do nothing...
Regards,
Just found the problem.. It was due to I didn't put the IRS files right into kernel folder, but in a subfolder into it. What I don't understand is why they appear in the list of convolver filters although being in a subfolder, but then don't use them. Once the filters are in the kernel folder, they not only appear in the list, but they are used too.
The filters are fantastic. If you use the one you like, it is almost unnecessary to activate the equalizer, just only the rever to colourize a little the sound and perhaps the Loudness.

Sorry for not specifying that the files needs to go to that subfolder.
I also use only IRS and some clarity with XiFi setting and 3.5DB selected. The IRS, i preffer "Traks Compression 2" and "Waves Headphones".
Also, try to lock it to Bluetooth or USB DOCK and switch to Advanced on Viper4Android. Once you'll do that, you will unleash the true power of Viper4Android. You will not be dissapointed
About FLAC playback, I only use PowerAmp, with all Equalizers disabled (EQ and Tone) and Settings -> Audio -> Advanced Tweaks -> Direct Volume Control (to be unchecked).

[DO NOT, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES, ATTEMPT THIS ON AN ECLAIR ROM. IT WILL BOOTLOOP. THIS ONLY WORKS ON DONUT ROMS]
Ok, first of all this is VERY experimental and it is not recommended that you keep this hack on your phone permanently. It is merely a Proof Of Concept at the moment.
What is it?
This is an edited file that you push to your phone and when activated, it allows the Headset to read from the AudioFilter.csv. The AudioFilter.csv contains an editable EQ and Compressor.
Why should i do this?
Why not? It can make your Headset sound better and, more importantly, louder. (Yes, it has my Headset Boost built in!)
How do i do it then?
Go to my downloads section and download my Equaliser.apk and either of the 2 EQ 'packages'. You must have a basic understanding of how to push my files manually.
Once they're on your phone, load up your music app and enjoy! The sound quality wont be amazing at the moment but if you want to see just how much it can be changed try pushing v6r2. It sounds absolutely terrible!
so...
Before we begin, things you need:
- A Rooted Phone
- A Rooted Phone running any DONUT ROM. [DO NOT, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES, ATTEMPT THIS ON AN ECLAIR ROM. IT WILL BOOTLOOP]
- My application and/or knowledge of how to push my mods manually.
- DO NOT ATTEMPT THIS IF YOU DO NOT KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING
TURN YOUR MEDIA VOLUME DOWN BEFORE YOU APPLY THIS HACK
INSTRUCTIONS
- Firstly, download my Equaliser.apk and install it on your phone
- Open up the application and select 'Always Allow' when it asks for SU permissions.
- Click the 'BACKUP FILES' button. THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT.
- Next turn your media volume down. seriously.
- Now the fun part, click 'HACK MY AUDIO!'
- Once that's completed, open up my Louder Volume Hack application (you can buy it from the market) and push v6r2. (or push the files manually, both work fine. don't forget to restart the mediaserver.)
- Enjoy!
Click to collapse
...it sounds terrible doesn't it? V6r2 is a nice example of how extreme we can get the EQ (we can make it much worse than that too).
I've prepared 2 sets of files for you 'BASSY' and 'QUALITY'. I'll leave it up to you to determine what they sound like
Both are available in my Downloads section.
How to apply my files manually
If you would like to push the Heaset EQ file manually, instead of using the pre-made application, download the attached libaudio.zip, extract the libaudio.so file and push it to 'system/lib' then do 'killall mediaserver'
EDIT: Added some pre-made files for you guys to try out.
Once you have the libaudio.so in place, all you have to do is push both files in the .zip to system/etc then do a 'killall mediaserver' from the terminal!
Enjoy!
[reserved for future use]
Sounds interesting(lol). Gonna try it out later.
Appreciate your work on this!
nice!
So glad to see you moving forward with the editable EQ idea! I'm currently running openeclair so I won't be able to participate in betatesting. However, if BT remains broken for much longer I may go back to donut, If I do I'll be sure to help in whatever way I can.
Once again, great job Meltus!

Sorry the EQ app is pretty bare at the moment, i'll be adding in the EQ settings to it soon
By the way, these settings will now be system wide, so they should affect the BT headset too! (not been tested)

XD yeah seemed to work when I used it on Eclair just that it bootlooped I was using Eclair when I tested it for you XD so decided that backing up and then pushing before rebooting each time might fix it and it seemed to work
meltus, you're amazing! coming through once again. I've been following your threads ever since the first audio hack that you released. so I pushed libaudio.so and I pushed the "bass.zip" files from your androidaudiohacks.com download section. the EQ settings on this are amazing, exactly what I've been looking for! AHHH! THANK YOU!!! audio sounds so much better in my car. I can actually put my subs to use now! so much low-end, muahahahaha
has killall mediaserver always worked to reset the .csv files when you replace them? or is that the change that you made to libaudio.so? always hated having to reboot to test new audio settings.

It has only been tested on Donut Roms so i wouldn't be able to say.
I will be doing more tests and improving at time goes on but i'm having a little break at the moment
There should be no reason for this not to work on cupcake but like i said, it hasn't been tested.
Even if it isn't fully compatible, you should be able to push the file to phone and run the EQ hack whilst it's running and then push your backup if you want to reboot. It seems to be the same on Eclair ROMs.
I tried doing that but the minute I open any music application the phone freezes be it HTC Music or RockOn

I guess it isn't cupcake compatible.
I'll compile the cupcake source tomorrow and see if the file is different.
Thanks, hopefully you find the problem and can't wait for your graphic equalizer
edit: Couldn't wait for a cupcake compatible version so I flashed the latest Cyanogen ROM, and all I can say is great work, listening to music on my phone is no longer a nuisance. At first I tried your bass file but I found it a bit flat (basshead) so I made my own (I'll attach it for others). Also could you explain some of the compressor settings?
neat little app. now we just need a number of preset EQ profiles to apply and/or a graphic equalizer.

Don't worry, it's on its way
So I am a bit of an audiophile. I like my music, but I can't get DSPmanager to work. I'm running CNA 1.5.5 with Matr1x kernel. I flashed the zip for it and it shows up, but selecting anything doesn't make a difference. I know what to listen to as well.
So I have been using poweramp lately. Can anybody help me figure this out?
Same problem here, but here's something of use.
I have CNA on my Moto Atrix 4g, and I have that same exact problem. I looked around in my /system/apps/ folder and discovered that it wasn't there. After manually making DSPManager.apk a system app (which is the only way to make it work on other ROMs), I discovered that there is already an Equalizer app called AudioManager.apk or something like that, and it is the only equalizer that will work on CNA. Sadly, it is not designed to be a User app, meaning you can only open it from another application (i.e. in Google Play Music going to Menu>Audio is the only way to access it). It does include a 5-Band Graphic Equalizer (with presets) and Bass Boost and 3D Sound Sliders, which work pretty well. Sorry I couldn't provide you with an answer that completely solves your problem, but I hope this helps!
Hello,
I've had enough of this bull****. The volume level is unacceptable on Xperia J. The sound is not loud enough on any phones to me, the same for my friend so that disqualifies broken phone. Some sort of audio compressor (software) is lowering the volume level on the device on purpose, I don't know if it's EU laws, or programmers fault, equalizer, musicfx app or whatever, someone should be able to hack it somehow.
Someone please modify the framework.odex or framework.jar to set higher volume levels please, I cannot do this because of odexed file and I don't know how to deodex it correctly.
None of the volume boost apps (including BeatsAudio) work on the stock rom (they just either don't work or brake the whole sound alltogether).
I'm offering $20 to however makes a volume boost level modification for the stock rom. I don't care about CM10 as it's not stable.
Thank you!

Uhhh...you know that Sony has XLOUD that is supposed to increase sound of speakers.
But I agree, even when calling sound on my Miro is really, really low. But I think it is not due to software, maybe hardware.
My old Sony Ericsson K810i is much better xD
xLoud is for the speaker. Not headphones. It does not affect headphones in anyway. Please everyone who thinks otherwise stop posting lies.
Service menu does not have this option on Xperia J. And I'm not lazy I've tried, check the questions subforum for my volume boost thread.
CM10 is fully stable now, apart from the radio not working fully yet.
I guess you don't understand what fully means then. I'm sorry but I need a stable device for work, I will never get a totally custom rom, I'm done with this.
Steam. - are you... cmon FULLY stable mean FULLY stable without broken things. CM7/8/9/10 was always broken... (eg. camera, radio, wifi... random crashes... )

That's because of European Union's law prohibiting manufacturers from using more than 90 dB I think. Anyway it has something to do with stupid EU law and devices here have lowered volume by default.
Cleaned thread,
Lets please stay on topic and be civil. This thread is only 2 pages, and has already gotten out of control.
The OP is looking for something that could be a problem for a lot of users. Lets not make a mess of the thread again please

you can try this several step to increase your volume. first of all I have to tell you that this mod didn't work on sony's stock music player and the radio since both of these app doesn't support any sound effect app (there is a little method to use eq app on this app but it doesnt give optimum result). you need to use 3rd party app like google music player or sony's walkman player to activate the effect. here are the required step:
1. install clearbass enhancement mod from me (the link is in my sig)
2. follow the guide to activate sony's clearbass on that thread
3. select musicfx as your sound effect app. >setting>sound>sound effect>musicfx.
3. install the beat bass app from my zip file. skip this step if you're already using it.
4. reboot your phone
5. if you're using google music player, go to equalizer setting. set all the eq to maximum. turn off the bass bost setting and set the slider at minimum.
6. open any music file with your music player
7. open the beat bass app. carefully set the eq to your desire. (be carefull. it could be very loud. you might want to use only half of your volume).
8. press home to save your eq setting. if you press back the beats app will be closed and you'll lost your eq setting
EDIT:
btw, I don't have working paypal account. if you found that this trick really work you don't have to pay me. you can give that $20 to any orphanage, social foundation, or anyone you think deserve to get that money.
There is a option in build prop that says "hearingprotection" not sute if its the cause for low volumes. You'll going to need root access to modify it. Will post screenshot soon.

I don't want to interfere with software that much by putting files from totally different phone to mine, I want this stock rom modified so that it removes the dB restriction. I even know where is it but I can't access it because it's odexed. It's simple as that.

Search for a deodex method ?
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda premium
I did and I don't know how to odex it back again to make it work. If it differs from the original file the system won't boot (I guess).
and btw. we must deodex framework file ;/
well...all the files in my zip file is taken from sony's stock rom. if you only want to install clear bass you only need to copy soundfx libs, conf file in /vendor/etc and the. all these files are from sony and doesn't break anything in your system. you can even uninstall it by simply delete the config file in /vendor/etc. my trick above is actually exploit a bug under sony's lib which is conflicted with android native's lib. the sounds got louder since there's two eq app working at same time. thus, made the volume alot louder than before.
anyway, it seems that you're know better than me. if you tell me which file need to be modified and the detail about which line should be modified I might do it for you. I have all stock app files already deodexed in my laptop.
EDIT: I forgot that you're using J. if you could give me the app with the odex file I'll try to deodex it.
You can find it here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=36557930&postcount=41
Can't hear any difference in sound when enabling clearaudio+, dynamic normalizer or when using equalizer. Noise cancellation is working, and overall the sound is good, but would like for the above mentioned to work.
Currently running stock. 28 firmware, rooted and recovery. Been trying a few other roms, but same problem. Tried disabling all xposed modules, but no change.
Mainly streaming with wimp (tidal)
Anyone with a clue to this?

I'm a little late here, but found your post while searching for the same answer with the same issue. In a nutshell, Sony has decided to blame the app developers instead of themselves. In Kit Kat, it was more of a "global" equalizer where if you changed any sound settings, it happened across the device in any app. Now, app developers have to choose whether or not to enable the equalizer. In my eyes, this was a horrible move. I use Tidal (wimp) as well, and it sucks to not be able to use any of the benefits of the Sony sound. If you try Spotify, however, they have decided to play ball so when you enter the "equalizer" it simply redirects you to all of Sony's audio tweaks. This is fantastic!
Now, I'm considering switching to Spotify even though I love Tidal. I wish this issue was fixed.
For what it's worth, the equalizer on my S6 works no matter what streaming program I'm using. Why can't you do the same thing Sony?!?!
Despite the bad news, hope this clarifies for you.

Cheers Dude. I think this issue affects about 1% of Z3/Z3+ users (I have both) and it is not on Sony's radar to fix. It's greatly upsetting to me, though.
I'm not sure if I can link to an external page, but here is the 9-page long post on the Sony forums about it:
http://talk.sonymobile.com/t5/Xperi...blem-after-lollipop-update/td-p/955035/page/9
I guess we could use a 3rd party app for an EQ and whatnot, but I find Sony's ClearBass or whatever it's called to be very valuable on some tracks.
A good weekend to you too,
-Collin-
The audio effect settings are now hidden in the Play Music app. I disable the app, since use Amazon for downloads (no device restrictions) and Poweramp for music. None the less, you can still access the audio effect settings, even if Play Music is disabled.
It is the same audio effect settings and appears to still be global. If it were linked to the Play Music app, I should not be able to mess with settings when the Play Music app is disabled, but I can. I created a shortcut to the Audio Effects with QuickShortcut (handy app!).
Audio Effects are accessible with the QuickShortcut app, so no need for the Play Music app.
That's just equalizer it was always there , on 5.0 sound effects was gone and put back. All you do is disable default EQ app.

It only works on supported apps.

Unless you use viper 4 Android under normal mode.

The equalizers came back after the new play music update.
The Audio Effects were located in the sound page of settings (at the top). They are gone now, but can still be accessed as noted above and without Play Music active (I don't use it).
Testing Youtube and other apps. it sounds like the settings are global (for what I checked), as they were prior to the super great amazing fantastic MM update. All of those adjectives are sarcastic, since I see no improvements but do notice the EQ setting missing from where they were and connecting to a PC went from simple fast connection, to a sporadic pain sometimes.
No, it isn't global anymore.. please test further.
Also the left and right channel doesn't switch anymore when rotating in landscape.. check for right/left channel tests in Youtube.

yes, this. why in the HELL would they remove that? did people seriously complain that they thought this was a glitch? wouldn't surprise me, since most people are dumb lol. this annoys the piss out of me.

Maybe if they'd done it correctly from the start -- meaning with no gap in playback, or at the very least a crossfade between channels -- no one would have complained and it could've stayed.
Marshmallow seems to have broken eq. I cannot get audio effects or market equalizer to do anything more than placebo eq. Even some apps with built-in eq have their eq break. . Bluetooth, any way. Yet, to test over eat buds.

You can also see at a glance the eq of audio effects is pathetic, if it happened to work. . In real world, there is a huge need for huge adjustments in ear buds, speakers, environments. . The variation of sound setup is huge. .
Not to mention BBE or other clarification effects. Which is essential, on top of eq.
Workaround
Now that we know that this doesn't work, (and probably isn't going to be a priority to fix in the next software update, given Lenovo's haphazard nature of releasing broken patches) what's the best workaround? Can Viper4Android be used with the stock, rooted Rom? Or can this blunder only be fixed with a custom Rom?

Viper works fine on stock. I highly recommend Arise audio (Viper is included).
Success!

It's interesting that you mention that because I had literally just discovered A.R.I.S.E. and installed it not even two hours before you posted . Thankfully, I can report that it does appear to be working brilliantly on the stock ROM when using the "Leviticus 1.3" version. :fingers-crossed:
I'll report back if I discover any issues, but so far, it looks good!

Cool! I've been using Arise since they started. Fantastic group of developers. Super nice and helpful. There are tons of options, but it can be simple as well. I'd recommend the newer Deuteronomy builds, but they're all really good. Any questions, just ask in the arise thread. Fyi there are a few incompatible versions. It'll show itself trying to take video and it'll stop with an error message that says that something else is using the mic.

I do remember seeing something like that when reading through the threads, but let me check this version real quick...
Phew! Video recording is working! Crisis averted. Is there anything else to watch for with these audio tweaks?

Obviously with Viper processing, battery drain will be a bit more. Otherwise just enjoy the music.

Will do . I assume the additional processing required would be comparable to what I experience right now with the Note2 and equalizer found inside of S-Tweaks. Hopefully not when it's sleeping and not playing any sound though.
solved.
Go to apps in settings, scroll to default equalizer ( in my case sound alive). Disable that and then go to music app (eg spotify) and then go to the equalizer settings and it will come up with your own equalizer app (eg V4A)
