Help rooting Sonim XP7? - General Questions and Answers

Hey smart people!
Anyone know how to root a Sonim XP7? I will gladly donate something to your favorite charity if your rooting solution works!
So far towelroot.apk doesn't work. I know how to use ADB but don't feel comfortable pushing a new boot loader without being able to backup and restore the existing one.

Hey,
Would be happy to help you root your Sonim XP7 running KitKat 4.4.4 ---- In return I ask for a factory ROM image. This will in turn benefit you as well. I messed up my own when doing a custom Lollipop ROM, and would rather not build from scratch or send it back to Sonim. ... yeah I didn't back it up beforehand
Also -- Sonim now has a 5.1 Lollipop version available, I've extracted the FOTA (Update Image) as well. First thing we'd need to do is backup the entire storage setup, can help with this. There are some tools you'll need.
Shoot me a e-mail -- [email protected] and I'll drop you my Skype.
Thanks,
Justin

Hey. Root received via kingoroot. I can remove the firmware dumps. Who bought XP7, I can not forgive him via fastboot, drivers are installed, but the firmware is not. Before was XP7, pierced him through fastboot, without any problems. What could be the problem?

Stuck in recovey
jeagle24, do you think you could help me out? I had my sonim xp7 rooted and i updated the firmware via the factory way. now my phone is stuck in recovery and i do not have a factory rom to flash it.

Has anybody had any luck pulling the factory files off? My XP7 was stock, I did a factory reset and now its stuck at the sonim logo. I can get access to recovery and fastboot, I have tried a factory reset etc. I think I need to fastboot flash boot.img

It sounds like rooting doesn't work for the xp7

Rom Maneger bricket my phone ((??!!))

Hi guys
I've rooted a Ouku Horizon (P801W) and make a backup with Titaniun Backup Pro to my SDcard of all System and User apps and data.
I wanted to flash a new rom so I get Rom Manager and to backup my current rom (just in case) I installed the flash ClockWorkMod recovery ( I supose that was the first mistake, as I did not get from the list of phones my P801W I install another one)
Then I did "Backup Current Rom" and when the phone reboots it took forever freeze at booting in Ouku logo over black screen.
I soud backup the rom manualy but I didn't
Now I won a brick? or is recoverble?
hard reset (home buton + sound down + Power on) don't get me in to recover mode just no mather what I do it freeze at boot Orku logo.
Please help!!!!
can Odin software be a solution to flash the original or other rom again to the phone?
thanks guys
Yes odin should fix the problem just download original firmware and flash it with odin. Sorry usually i find the tut but now dont have much time.
thanks suki
I'll give it a try
does any one know how to put a Orku Horizon in download mode?
I tried all combinations of butons that I think of and no luck...
any insight?
I supose that Odin is a solution to my nerly bricket phone.
I should flash a recovery or a new compatible rom(?)
unfortunately from Ouku manufactory I can't get any kind of realy technical answer.
so I dont know how to proced with Odin...
my specs are:
Model number - P801W
Android 2.2.2
baseband version iris_p800 v1.20
Kernel 2.3.35.7perf.
[email protected]#3
Build nº FRG83G
software version Iris-p801W_v.21
Hardware version Iris_MP
any insight???????
pls
If you want an official rom just flash the rom using odin.
And for custom roms flash first CWM recovery, and then the rom you like.
I don't mind to put a custom rom in it, unfortunately I don't have any idea wich Rom to use.
If I put Cyanogenmod or Miui and if it is incompatible with Ouku Horizon android phone dont I brick it definitively?
does those custom roms support dual sim?
another thing is that I suppose I bricked my phone when I install a non specific CWM to Orku Horizon (P801W) through Rom Manager
because when it ask for the phone model mine wasn't listed so I chose a model that I tough was a generic...
(what a dumb ass!!!)
thanks a lot for your help Suky08

Need Stock rom for Prestigio 5870C urgently

Hello all!
Please, if someone can provide the stock rom for this device, the one that I can flash using stock recovery, I would really highly appreciate...
My device is bricked, and fastboot is not working. I have tried all the drivers out there, but simply, once in bootloader mode, device is not accessible...ADB is wokring however....
Stock ROM is my only hope...
Thanks!!
Update:
I managed to flash CWM using RKandroidtool, but I can not jump into recovery. It is pretty much stuck so if somebody could at least export kernel.img and system.img I would really appreciate ..or provide fool upgrade firmware img

[Q] MotoG downgrade to 4.3 with Ubuntu (Linux)?

Hello,
I have an XT1032 ('falcon') MotoG, purchased from Tesco in the UK. The bootloader was unlocked very soon after I bought it and I purchased an unlock code to allow it to be used on all UK networks. It works well. I think it was supplied with Android 4.3 Jellybean, and it was updated OTA to 4.4.4 KitKat.
I'm trying to install CM11 M6 (dated 4/5/2014) on the 'phone using CWM6.0.4.7. It appears to install fine, but goes to the bootloop, with the CM face in the middle and the rotating arrow running around it - and never progresses from there. This seems to be a common problem as there are a number of threads about it on this forum. It appears that the solution is to downgrade it to 4.3 by flashing it.
Following the instructions here:
http://www.nerdoholic.com/mobiles/restore-stock-firmware-motorola-moto-g/
... the opening instruction is "Download and install Motorola drivers" - which is where the problems start as it appears that the Motorola drivers are only available for Windows and Mac users, but not for Linux users, and I only have Ubuntu machines to play with.
So, where do I go from here? How can I downgrade to 4.3 with a Linux machine? I have tried the instructions, and they don't complete (although they seem to get most of the way there.)
Alternatively, is there any other way of installing CM11 on my 'phone without downgrading? There seem to be some people around who have made it work by installing CM11 twice (which didn't work for me), by wiping the 'phone and the Dalvik Cache (which also hasn't worked) or by using a different Recovery tool ('Philz Advanced CWM Tool' is mentioned occasionally, but I haven't tried it.)
All help welcomed, thanks. (For clarity, the 'phone is an original Moto G, 16GB. It's not the Moto G2, nor is it the 4G/LTE version that was released a little later.)
Oli.
A little more information - I have backed-up the working configuration of the 'phone with CWM and can restore from it fine. This is hence allowing me to tinker with all sort of other configurations and still get back to an operational 'phone - which is great! However I would be nervous about trying anything that would jeopardise this restore capability, which is one of the reasons why I haven't progressed with Philz Advanced CWM Tool.
Oli.
Linux requires no drivers. Fastboot tutorial here:
http://lifehacker.com/the-easiest-way-to-install-androids-adb-and-fastboot-to-1586992378http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2542219
You cannot boot into 4.3 with your 4.4.4 bootloader. I suggest you flash the Retail UK 4.4.4 firmware image available here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=54872143&postcount=362
Lost101,
Thanks - I suspected that it was the case that Ubuntu needed no drivers. Will the fact that I am trying to downgrade from 4.4.4 to 4.3 explain the fact that the flash didn't complete?
If so, and I try using the Retail UK 4.4.4 image then will it subsequently allow me to install CM11 (which is my final goal)?
Thanks again for your help.
Oli.
Personally I am more inclined to suspect the ROM itself and/or your custom recovery version is the problem.
Lost101,
Thanks again. Following the instructions in your first post (above) has successfully installed 4.4.4 from the Retail UK image. It boots and (appears) to work OK. However manually rebooting into fastboot and choosing 'Recovery' has highlighted the fact that CWM seems to have been lost and SuperSU is not in the Apps List - so it really does look like a very stock build (albeit the unlocked bootloader remains unlocked, as you'd expect).
I guess I therefore gain Root Access and re-install CWM and see where we go from there. Thanks again for your help.
Oli.
You have been using an early build of CWM. I recommend Philz Touch or TWRP.

Need help of root, recovery & ROM on D80020y

I have an AT&T D800 and current software version is official 4.4.2 D80020y. I want to install official CM12.1 or preferably CM13, but i am extremely confused on where to start given that i havent done any modifications to my device before. I tried ioroot but it seems that my firmware version is not supported. Then i am not sure on the recovery part as well. which recovery is best for installing CM12/13? i read that some recovery causes the device to be soft bricked. If someone could give me a quick walk through on how to go about rooting and installing a recovery that supports all roms, it would be extremely helpful.

Confusion about rooting XT1039 on 5.1

Hello all, my problem is that I've unlocked the bootloader and tried CF Auto Root but it just hangs - I've since read it isn't compatible with 5.1.
So how do I root the phone now? Do I actually need a custom recovery, or can I just root it? In the past I've flashed a file from the sdcard and the phone was instantly rooted, so have no experience with recoveries.
Some of the guides I've found are a couple of years old so may be outdated, and there's so many different ways I've been going round in circles.
I have Motorola Device Manager and Minimal ADB + Fastboot installed on a Windows 10 PC, 5.1 version is 23.26.3 peregrine.
Any help greatly appreciated!
Find a compatible recovery for your phone , flash the recovery via adb and then flash SuperSU zip through it .
Thankyou, is there a recommended custom recovery for the xt1039 (Is cwm or twrp better?)?
Is the correct version for xt1039 twrp-3.0.2-0-peregrine.img? Found here: twrp(dot)me/devices/motorolamotog2013lte(dot)html And follow the 'Fastboot Install Method (No Root Required)' instructions?
Will this still work if I'm on 5.1, or does it not matter what version I'm on?
Thankyou for any help, as I said I haven't installed custom recovery before so am a bit unsure.
