So I have installed roms on other devices in the past using twrp but this is my first time owning a samsung galaxy s6 I have the sm-g920w8 virgin mobile canada version and was wondering if there is a marshmellow twrp and how I might go about rooting it as I have yet to see any new/fresh roms for this device thanks in advance. I previously had a zenfone 2 and it was easy to root/ install custom recovery and rom. I have searched the forum but I am not finding any luck for my model at all. The more I search the forum I get annoyed as I am so use to installing roms by now but samsung has made it harder to do so. Sincerly Mark

Rooting the new CIO5 firmware is exactly the same procedure as rooting the original firmware.
You need arter97's kernel, twrp and supersu.
And you need to know how to root.
Good luck,
Have a great day.

All the information and step by step method for rooting is located in the liink below:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/s6-...-to-rooting-flashing-custom-recovery-t3200324
The rooting method for all N920T and variants are the same.
Just make sure that you get the correct arter97 custom kernel
version for your N920T phone.
Good luck,
Have a great evening!
Looking forward to rooting this phone so I can use my root apps and ect. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I think they mean to say he can't find the firmware for his phone. I personally haven't heard of Cspire so this may be why. The MetroPCS firmware took a while to be found. In any case, find your firmware HERE but I can't be sure it may be there. Good luck.

If your model number happens to be a SM-G930R7, I happened to find a working stock firmware to recover the OS back to working order. If you do have said model, I can set the files up somewhere for download and you just do the usual with Odin.
First of all, let me apologize for posting this in android general first since i am new here. I later realized that posting it in samsung galaxy s6 forum will be a much wiser choice.
Hi Everyone,
I accidentally deleted pictures from my samsung galaxy s6 phone and am looking into rooting the phone to recover them (havent used the phone since then). But most of the applications out there require rooting. I have looked into pingpong root and Chainfire but they dont list the exact build version of my phone.
EXACT build version of my galaxy s6:
MMB29K.G920IDVU3EPH9
WHAT'S available online:
the closest i found is from chainfire (CF-auto root) is MMB29K.G920IDVU3EPC6.
Please advise if i can use the root file meant for the build available with chainfire or if anyone has rooted their galaxy s6 for my exact build then please advise on that.

I am not quite sure, since I am also relatively new to the phone, but CF autoroot should work fine. The problem I see however is that AFAIK the phone will be wiped after rooting, so I dont know, if rooting will be of any help to you. You should try to find out, if there is any way to get a system dump. More precisely your sdcard. This way you can have as many recovery attempts as you want, without risking to overwrite anything. Hope it helps. Also rooting itself and installing SU will overwrite some of your storage. So be careful.

Like I said, I don't know, since I don't kmow much about the phone yet, but I thought I had read about CF autoroot wiping the phone after rooting, but please check on your own. Google system dump galaxy s6. Maybe system dump android 6.0.1. I haven't done it in a while, but it should work using adb pull. Maybe there is a new command already. But please read up on it first.

Right okay cool thanks for that. I have bad news for you, because your phone has a locked bootloader it cannot be rooted at this point until an exploit is found. I even had a look over in the At&T s6 forums and there's not much going on. Sorry mate.

That sucks but thanks for the straightforward answer. But there's really 0 options for me at this point? Not even downgrading or flashing? (Just some terms I've picked up, don't exactly know what those mean)

Unfortunately not, downgrading is when going from one version to the previous, due to how samsung setup their bootloader, trying to say go from nougat to Marshmallow is not possible so you will always remain on nougat. Flashing is commonly done via a recovery and a piece of software called odin, every phone has a recovery but most root things need you to have a custom recovery like twrp this can only be achieved via having root, odin is used to flash stock Samsung firmwares. Hope that helps a bit. For the time being my advice to you is to keep looking at the s6 at&t forums from time to time, at some point they may come out with a root exploit that works.

Looking for a google frp bypass also if anyone knows how.
Ok the past week iv pulled all nighters trying to root this s727vl. I have also did ton of of research and have found out the root method for 6.0 marshmellow and how root is obtain has drastically changed. I have easily rooted every device iv owned from 2.0 to 4.4. What if found out is the device is easier to root than 4.4 and 5.0. The problem is that the 2 root methods are not currently possible at this time because custom recovery is needed to flash supersu.zip. twrp and cwm have not made a compatible apk for our device. And the second root method which requires eng.boot don't have one for our device's either. The good news is that twrp is completely open source and there is a guide here on the forum on how to recompile it for your device. I will be giving it a shot. Dont wast your time with iroot, kingroot, srsoot, towel root, unlock root, tunesgo, and about 5 more that i cant remember the name.. i will keep everybody posted on my recompiling twrp. It's going to be a awhile though.

Wondering if you had any success rooting this one. Honestly, I'd just like to use the mobile hotspot.

I've been studying this phone for a while and waiting for a root method. TWRP would be ideal, but it doesn't seem to be a priority for those with the talent to do so. In my research today, I may have stumbled upon what appears to be a means to root this phone (or any phone). Instead of looking around for "root", try instead to study and learn about Magisk. It seems to be the new preferred way to root newer devices. TWRP would make it easier, but there are instructions to use the stock firmware download and the Magisk app to achieve root for practically any device. Even if there is no TWRP available.
From what I can gather, Magisk modifies the stock Boot.img file. Once modified, it will allow you to switch root on and off much like we have in the past. It also has the added benefit of "hiding" from the OS, so the OS is not as likely to become aware of being rooted. It remains rooted even after Updates.
Have a look at this link for a better explanation and a basic how-to:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/magisk/how-to-install-magisc-twrp-locked-t3599926/page2
I post this so that the rest of you can try it as well, hopefully soon so we can compare notes and hopefully leverage each other's success. I'm downloading the Stock firmware now. This is NOT a "run a magic program and it roots my phone idiot-proof method", but it doesn't seem to be overly-complex either. Good luck and please report back.
