I'm on a Nexus 6P right now, but I had a brief stint with the ZTE Axon 7 that I ended up returning because of terrible T-Mobile reception (around 10 to 12 dBm worse than the 6P at any given time).
Any complaints with the Honor 8 on T-Mobile?
I've only had the phone for a short time, but it's working fine on T-Mobile. Definitely getting better reception than my 1+1, but that's to be expected.
Are you able to get band 12 on t-mobile?
Sent from my D5803 using Tapatalk
Not sure if i get band 12 but I average 22mb download and 23mb upload on speedtest using simple mobile. It gets better signal than my nexus 6p. I have never seen less than LTE for data signal (except no data when on call). This phone is a real keeper and thats coming from a simple mobile (t-mobile mvno) user.
Great reception here, coming from an LG v10 this has better reception and better download speeds too. I'm on TMOUS.

I have a Nexus 4 and am pondering if it is really worth buying a Nexus 5.
I do not want Nexus 6 when it comes out as those phones are getting tooo big. the Nexus 4/5 are my limits as far as size go.
So again, is it really worth it buying a Nexus 5?
Thanks all in advance.
Honestly,... With the release of partial L-release source in AOSP showing official support for nexus 4, I'd say no. Hang on to your money for now. See what Google has up their sleeves in 2015
If you game a lot, the nexus 4 will surely be sluggish compared to the Nexus 5. Besides that, nexus 5 will be future proof (at least for another year).
If you don't play games, I really don't see the need to switch. Sure, the nexus 4 is out of it's update cycle. But it still has a strong developer support so I'm pretty sure any new updates will be ported over!
I have a Nexus 4 still and see no reason to get a nexus 5. The nexus 6, following current trends, will probably be 5.2", so it shouldn't be in phablet territory. I only got mine in October in the sale though, so it would be too early for me to upgrade now anyway. Wait and see, the nexus 6 might even be 64 bit compatible.
I own both phones and the only big benefit is gaming. I wouldn't recommend upgrading if you don't game a lot. As others have said. Both are amazing phones
Yes
Kool, thanks for all your inputs! I think I will wait. But...I don't trust myself. If I visit a store and play with the Nexus 5 and like it, I might just impulsively buy it then n there.
Again, thanks for all your resonses.
If I had the nexus 4 I would wait for nexus 6 at least. It's not like the nexus 4 is slow yet.

I have both. Yes in term of hardware 'upgrade' it is worth it. But it depends on your primary use of your N4. If you're into serious gaming, then you should. Otherwise, just hang to it until it 'die' of naturally.
I'm really happy with the N5 but if I had the N4, I wouldn't be able to justify the upgrade to myself.
If you can wait...
If you can wait maybe get a Moto X+1. But it will be a lottery because not much is known about this device (mainly the rumored specs) but judging by the Moto G and Moto X it could be very good.

No one seems to have mentioned the biggest difference between the N4 and N5 -- LTE. The N4 does not support LTE, while the N5 does. In my opinion, that alone was worth the upgrade to the N5. But then I have solid and fast LTE on AT&T in and around the Los Angeles metro area. If you don't use data much, or don't have LTE service in your area, that won't matter as much. But for me, the LTE, in addition to the much faster quad-core processor, the N5 is a no-brainer upgrade over the N4.

You have a good point there. Faster processor plus official LTE support. I have lots of LTE coverage (TMO) in my area and my Blackberry Z10,Q10 do get it. Good points and thank you also.
Anyway, I went to a TMO store, handled a Nexus 5, fell in love with it and ordered one from Google Play! I could not wait. I have started reviewing the Nexus 5 forums on XDA to prepare for arrival of my new Nexus 5.
My Nexus 4 will now become my "house phone" (using voip via csipsimple/pbxes/gvoice and/or Callcentric).
I have LTE most areas around me but not always strong. Even when it is I don't seem to notice a huge speed difference but I haven't really tested it side by side either.
That said I love my nexus and its the first android phone that my gf actually likes and considered getting one or a nexus 4. If you can afford a new nexus 5 though why not?
My house phone is a 4 year old HTC desire lol.

A little info regarding the LTE vs. HSPA speeds in different areas.
The actual LTE speeds you see on your device, even with strong signal, still depend on how much bandwidth the towers have available on their backhaul links. If your carrier has upgraded the towers to support LTE, but hasn't increased the backhaul links, you might be getting strong LTE signal but without a significant increase in bandwidth.
For comparison, in the Los Angeles area on the AT&T network (which is nearly 100% LTE upgraded, with enhanced backhaul links), while on HSPA+, I average between 6-8Mbps downlink speeds, and on LTE, I easily average between 20-30Mbps downlink speeds, depending on the area. It also depends on how many other LTE users there area on the network; in downtown LA, my speeds are around the 20Mbps speed, whereas in Irvine (Orange County), I get closer to the 30Mbps speed.
My neighbor, who is an AT&T network engineer, has told me that AT&T strives to deliver what they call the "80% backhaul" mark, which is to say that they like to have the backhaul to each tower delivering the bandwidth that 80% of the users on the tower are using 50% of the time (because not every user is using data simultaneously). This allows them to provide enough bandwidth for the majority of users without the cost of over-allocating too much bandwidth, and also allowing for 20% usage spikes. But it also means, that if you're in an area with relatively few LTE users, they may not have allocated enough bandwidth to the towers, meaning that just because your device can utilize higher-speed LTE, the towers simply don't have the bandwidth to give it to you.
Depending on the type of backhaul (copper, fiber optic, or satellite links) the carrier is using for the specific tower, it can be difficult to increase bandwidth. The newer fiber optic backhaul links are nice in that they allow the carrier to dynamically adjust the available bandwidth, in order to allocate more bandwidth as usage in an area rises, or reduce as usage drops. This is especially useful during sporting events, when a much higher percentage of users in small area will be using more data. But towers using copper or satellite (in rural areas) for backhaul don't necessarily have the ability to dynamically increase bandwidth. These towers are much more likely to have constrained bandwidth.
TLDR; Long story short, while there can be a significant difference between HSPA and LTE speeds, it's entirely dependent on the available bandwidth that the carrier has provided to the tower. Even with strong LTE signal, if the towers just don't have enough bandwidth, you'll still get HSPA-level speeds. But if the carrier's have upgraded the backhaul to provide additional bandwidth for the LTE devices, then you can get significantly faster speeds and lower latency with LTE compared to HSPA.
Good information to have. I am on Telus Mobility in Kingston Ontario Canada for what its worth.

Hey guys, I have a question. I have my nexus 5 and my wife has galaxy s 5. We are in a good LTE area.
We are in south jersey rite outside of philly. My wife and I
Can be rite next to each other and she gets better signal.
I have felt that the nexus 5 has some issue when it comes to data. Phone calls are the same.. Is this a nexus 5 thing.
If it matters I am running dirty unicorns ROM with code blue kernel. Any help would be great!!!
no issues here(NYC). if you are looking at signal bars, you can not. different companies use differing formulas for that. some even make it so that it shows a better connection than it actually is(apple got in trouble for that several years ago). if you do want to compare, look in the about phone in main settings, status, signal strength.

When it comes to data? What exactly have you tried to confirm a low data speed?
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
As mentioned, bars are mostly useless and not comparable between any 2 devices. Compare the -dBm ratings from the settings for more accurate results.
I wouldn't be surprised if the N5 was a bit lower as every phone is using different antennas resulting in varying signal strengths, and you're comparing to a phone that costs twice as much after all. If it's not causing issues though I wouldn't worry about it.
Thanks guys.. I will look into what you guys said.
Thanks for reply..
I'm in Chicago, and have noticed that I am barely averaging a single bar on LTE with my S6 edge, whereas my Nexus 5 was fine. I've read a couple of posts elsewhere complaining of similar issues on the Sprint site. Anyone else? Could this just be a firmware/radio problem? My PRL and profile are up to date.
I too am having troubles with my LTE signal on my edge. I also live in Chicago. I recently upgraded from an HTC one M8.
Same here switched from non spark s4 and notice slower speeds loading google maps and other apps

I'll try that on my phone, I am experiencing the same thing in Milwaukee
Im having issues as well this is really pissing me off its an $850 phone for God's sake.
I guess it depends a lot on area. I live in SoCal, north Orange County to be more specific, and my LTE performance is way better than my Sprint GS4 in terms of speed, coverage, and stability.

Each manufacturer uses the signal bars differently in terms of interpreting strength of signal. I would suggest downloading signal check pro and comparing.
That being said, the s6 is generally worse RF wise than the n5 and s5, which was known before hand. Not alot worse, but slightly. Typically about -5db

With my Sprint Galaxy S4 and Nexus 5 on AT&T, I never reached such speeds.
First run. Band 41 (Clearwire 2500 MHz).
I'm also getting 4G LTE in more places than before compared to the S4. For instance, I would always fall down to 3G inside a Costco in Garden Grove I go to. But yesterday, I was on Band 41 and the speed was good. Same for my front porch and inside my home - from 3G to 4G LTE on Band 41.
I don't know i try everything, reset the phone, clean cache, switch to lte/CDMA, updated prl and firmware, new provisioning, still lag in opening any data dependent app
Chicago area
No problems before on s3 s4 and s5 witch is also spark

Same issue here in Miami, well similar. Some apps on Sprints Network take forever to load data, keep in mind it's only Apps. Like Google Music, Facebook, Instagram and a couple more. If I connect to WiFi it all works fast and information loads immediately. Once again on Sprints Network it loads and loads and loads you get the point....
The only thing that solves this issue is connecting through a VPN. When i'm on sprints network and on VPN it all works as it should. WTF Sprint.
I am constantly moving between 1 bar with spark, and 3G. I ran the speed test and don't even get near 1mbps. Last week my Galaxy s4 was at least 10 times faster than my s6 edge. hoping for updates that fix this.

Same here in Austin. My wife and I were sitting in the waiting room at the vet so our dog could get his checkup. I was trying to download a book on the Kindle app and had only 1 bar. I ran the speedtest app and was lucky to get a download speed of 100k. My wife has Sprint's GS5 and was showing 4 bars with Spark and getting 10Mbps on the Speedtest app. I had her turn her hotspot on and I connected via wifi. Then I thought, why doesn't the vet's office offer wifi since there always seems to be people waiting. Of course, it really wouldn't be an issue if my expensive new GS6 Edge worked just as well as the GS5. I really hope an update comes out soon that fixes it. Also sad that it suffers from the same 'you can't do data and voice at the same time' issue that the GS5 had.
Returned mine two phones, couldn't stand it .Called sprint they waived restocking fee .
I think you guys should start calling them the guy from tech support said they not aware of the issue.

We finally got 4G LTE in Springfield, Illinois
my samsung galaxy s4 was working amazingly.
But now with this galaxy s6 edge I wait around longer than usual to load.
****ing sucks..
any ideas?
I usually check sensorly.com
My speeds are like a third of what they were with my s5
Frequently even less than that
Heck even texts take a long time to send

I am using my honor 8 on cricket and I am getting the 4GLTE symbol most of the time. Some areas it dips down to 4G, but that's just how the coverage is. Is it possible that you just didn't notice it on your iPhone before?
Also when I put my SIM card into the Honor 8 I received 2 messages from Cricket. One for data settings & one for MMS settings. I clicked on the link in the messages and the settings were applied, did you get those messages from Cricket?

Right. Also remember with Cricket you never actually get LTE speeds since they cap at 8Mbps.
Change in signal from 4g to 3g is just because u had low signal reception .

Did a test just now.
How you compare it to previous phone?
I have the T-Mobile 7 Pro rooted. How can I do the OTA update without loosing root? I cant find and info on the T-Mobile version.
This is what I get in my area
Why am I getting such low speeds?
Here are my speeds. Stock TMobile software latest update 9.5.8
Typical is 30-60 if I have 2 or 3 bars. But it's over 100 with all the bars lit up.
here's what I got
You all are lucky. In my area of the San Fernando Valley (about 25 miles NW of Downtown Los Angeles), I get about 3-5 Mbps down and about 5-7 Mbps up. This is what I get whether I try it on my previous Galaxy S9 or the OnePlus 7 Pro.
