Bootloop and can't reset - Galaxy S6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

OK, my S6 (verizon) locked up today and immediately went into bootloop. I've tried wiping cache, i've tried wiping system/data, i've tried factory reset. It'll either lock up doing that, or it will complete and then go right back into the boot loop.
I tried using ODIN to flash the stock rom but i get the error: SW REV CHECK FAIL Device: 4 Binary:1
If I boot into recovery, it always starts at "Installing system update" (this was before I tried to update the stock rom or anything) and sometimes it will lock up doing that, sometimes i'll get into recovery, but as I've said so far nothing has gotten my phone into a useable state.
I tried KIES 3, but it just complains that my device is not supported.
Any suggestions will be hugely appreciated, this phone is only a year old and I really can't afford to replace it out of pocket.
Thanks!!

Kies3 doesn't supports S6 I guess. Use smart switch.

you can do emergency initialization with smart switch, instructions below:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s6/help/how-to-smart-switch-emergency-t3383448

Thank you for replies. Smart switch is telling me my SN is invalid, it is the IMEI number from the phone, and I've confirmed there were no typoes. I did finally get ODIN to work with a newer firmware, but after updating the phone just returns to a bootloop. I'm thinking its a hardware issue at this point.

Did you enter the model number correctly i.e. SM-G920V or so?. Not really familiar with smart switch. Used once without issue.

Yes, it accepted the model number and yes it was correct.

hi, did you try downloading the official 6.0.1 firmware the n flash it using odin. try flashing BL and AP, the bootloop cause might be because of your bootloader, imho

I had already tried flashing AP. After reading your suggestions i tried flashing BL as well. Now it gets to the red Verizon screen (which is new, it was bootlooping before it got there) but it just hangs there now. The "pluse" in the Verizon V logo keeps going, so its not completely locked up, but it never actually boots.
At this point I think i need to just replace it but I'll still accept any suggestions on things to try if anyone has any thoughts!
I appreciate all the help already provided.

im sorry to hear that mattbooty, lets not loose hope, how about downloading an old 5.1.1 bootloader and 5.1.1 official firmware for your phone variant. make sure that the bootloader goes to BL and the firmware goes to AP. , btw BL and AP should be both checked in odin before starting to flash the phone. Im sure this has something to do with bootloader img

OK, so after the last post, i did another factory reset from within the recovery options (this is after odin flashing BL and AP) and this time it got past the Verizon screen and to the new android setup screen!
I'm working on setting it up now and fingers crossed it doesn't lock up and go back into boot loop. I will update.

nice to know that my post was helpful mattbooty, btw did you downgrade to 5.1.1 just like what i've told you?

I didn't, that was using the 6.0.1 firmware. I had tried that firmware originally but was given an error "SW REV CHECK FAIL".
Prior to the phone bootlooping originally I had noticed it started locking up every now and then. Since getting it working again (for an hour or so) it has already locked up once, but it did boot right back up this time. Fingers crossed that doesn't mean its going to start bootlooping again soon.
thanks again for all the assistance.

HELP

Alright so I decided to make a dumb choice and factory reset my rooted S6 and now I cant get past the setup wizard because its checking for a software update which it hasn't gotten past for 2 DAYS ! Previous times I've reset my phone this never happened. I also tried to just re-install the stock android but Odin says fail. There's nothing else I really know to do. I've been looking online all day for ways to fix this and nothing. Please help me lol
Well you're on the right track. Here is a different way of restoring the stock firmware. Download and install Samsung Kies3 straight from Samsung website.
You'll need to enter the Serial Number (very small at the back bottom of the phone) and the model number (I.e. SM-G920F) for Samsung Kies to start downloading the correct firmware.

Can you upload a screenshot of the error shown in Odin?

Verizon G920V Will not boot up

Ok, I am a regular student here and have rooted several phones.
I rooted OE2 on a Verizon S6 with Ping Pong then I took the OTA from Samsung and lost root.
I then decided to try and return to stock after constant annoying update messages.
So I used ODIN to flash OE2 and all He++ broke loose.
I have not been able to boot up for 2 days. I have factory reset and reflashed with ODIN multiple times.
Sometimes it will go through optimizing apps and either shutdown or lockup, then it will quit after a while and not do anything other than the Samsung screen.
I cant boot into a real recovery and wipe cache because the firmware from sammobile.com doesn't have any recovery other than totally stock so, its applicable option is factory reset.
The blue light will pulse when not charging as well.
I am currently downloading the PD2 Firmware hoping it will work.
I would really appreciate any help, thank you.

It should work with the PD2 update. Once you accept an update you cannot go backwards in firmware only forwards. Every OTA is a bridge that burns as you cross it.
OK, will let see what happens. I tried the emergency recovery options on smart switch and it didn't work at all. It wouldn't go past recognizing the phone.
I was able to attempt to Odin flash pd2 this am but the pit files I got here reported as corrupted. Then I could no longer locate the pd2 file I downloaded after trying to flash it in odin. It was also from a link on here as well... So I will try again tonight.
Its been a rough several days..... I have uninstalled the kies leftover files via terminal, installed java updates, installed Heimdall updates, tried the one click Heimdall, attempted to learn what in the He}} the Heimdall program was asking me to load as I have no clue which files go where in the program, read tutorials on it.
I unzipped my PD2 (Verizon) file and it runs for a minute and then tells me the file is corrupt. It is the 3rd MD5 I have downloaded. I have no retrievable PIT file and have downloaded no less than 12 of them all of the USA VZW type and ODIN and Heimdall do not like any of them.
I really do not know what to do from here other than throw this POS in the lake. I am so far past frustrated I don't know what to do.....
Any help would be truly appreciated.......
Thanks!
I give up, not really any help here either so I just paid $200 deductible. Bummer.

I messed up and now I'm stuck on FRP lock

Ok so admittedly I made a noob mistake and inadvertently unchecked OEM unlock and rebooted. So I'm stuck on FRP lock. From what I see, my only option is to flash the original firmware on the phone.
My question is simple: I don't have TWRP and can't do a NAND backup. Will my internal SD card get wiped as well? If so, is there ANY way I can back it up before hand??
Thanks...
Ok so I managed to save my arse after all, but I figured I would leave a reply here for archival purposes.
I used Odin to flash the stock Bootloader and PDA. Not only it didn't touch my SD, but it really didn't wipe anything and I only lost my root.
Two things happened I didn't see documented anywhere I looked: I got a weird crash on boot update and ended up in Stock recovery after auto reboot and got a slew of error messages, but a simple phone reboot worked.
Then I was asked for a password to restart, which turned out to be "default_password"...
Hope this will help someone down the road!

Cleaned & wiped all stuff, flashed stock 6.0.1 with Odin AP,BL,CP,CSC and same FRP google login shows up. Mind sharing those two files?
For sure, I just used the latest firmware on Sammobile: this is the generic one for Canada, but I'm on Rogers so I used this one.
I only used the BL and PDA, but I also made sure I wasn't locked out on my Samsung Account. FRP can be because of the custom binaries, but it can also be a system lock out and I've read that in some cases it's because the phone has soft locked itself out. Not sure how accurate that is, but wouldn't hurt to check I guess...
now all ok or still facing same?

Did I brick it? Is she done for? Stock Odin files don't work /glitch

So I know there's not much support for this device anymore but I'm stuck in the water with my Galaxy S6 wondering if anybody can help here's my situation:
I have a SM-G920V on firmware OE2 as of yesterday. I have been rooted running the revolution 1.0 ROM for about year now with no problems. Yesterday I was doing some things in titanium backup and I tried to move a system app over to a user app. Well things got hairy and it ended up soft bricking my phone. I was stuck in a boot loop at the main splash screen with no way around it. I tried everything at that point that I know of. I put it into recovery mode, tried to boot in safe mode, wiped cache via recovery, did a factory reset via recovery . Still just a boot loop.
So then I came across the Stock Odin thread and I have tried OE2 f and then OC3 with the same outcome on both for . The FW flashes but when I boot up the phone and start the setup wizard I get stuck at the first step of it trying to activate the phone/ phone number . The System even becomes a bit glitchy and starts not responding at this point and will reboot randomly . This happens on both firmwares that I tried from that thread ....I can't get it past the activation. I did try a factory reset on OE2 after I Odin the tar to see if that helped but still got stuck at activation
I actually took the phone in to Verizon last night and it's sad because the customer service rep only tried about 5% of the things(5 min) that I tried before saying that the phone was "toast". All he did was go to recovery mode and tried to factory data reset ,which I had told him I tried many times and did not work. Fortunately or unfortunately enough my work replaced the phone with a brand new Galaxy S7 which I am using now. I still have the S6 though and I'm just determined not to give up yet because I don't think this phone is "toast" . If anyone can shed some light or has had the same problem and knows a fix I would love to know. I would absolutely love to be able to get this thing fixed and be able to give it to my daughter for Christmas.
Thanks in advanced!

It maybe worth noting that while I'm in download mode or Odin mode on the phone it does say the reactivation lock is on. I know I've read this is cause some problems for people later on in the process so I thought I would mention it

Problem resolved thread can be closed. I flashed FM PI2 and it seemed to fix my issues. Something with root and the bootloader were conflicting.

what is FM PI2? thanks.

Samsung Galaxy S7 (SM-G930V) Stuck in bootloop. PLEASE HELP!

Okay,
So my phone was working fine, until I tried to install Xposed on my phone. My phone restarted, but instead of working, it was stuck at the Verizon logo. I tried doing everything.
When I tried factory resetting it said it wiped the data. I pressed reboot system, and it came up as Samsung and then "custom." I don't know how to get rid of the custom thing. I can't flash the stock fireware as I don't have any money to buy it.
Someone please help me get my phone working again. I don't care if it rooted or not.

Next time you install xposed and it won't boot, all you have to do is flash the xposed uninstaller zip for your version of xposed.
Your firmware should be available without having yo pay for it. Go to Sammobile .com or samsung-updates .com and search there using your model number.
Or do a google search for:
"Return to stock (your model number)"
