Old Nokia 625 as local web server? - General Questions and Answers

My friend gave me his old Nokia lumina 625 - the whole screen and front is completely smashed, but seems fully functional. I'm wondering if I could make use of it as a local web server to run some flavour of ubuntu on it with nginx on it for personal use only.
The specs make it seem as if it's powerful enough, but as it's a windows phone I'm guessing putting something other than windows on it will be a pain in the backside. All I'd need functioning would be the wifi and a usb port just in case.
Any clues how to achieve this? I can't find anything realistic about getting android working on it, but thought I'd come here and ask those with the knowledge!

Running a fully working Android on the lumia 625 is impossible at the moment.

Is this still true today? I also have a working Nokia 625 in my drawer and the screen is intact - any chance I could install Android on it? If not, what is preventing me from doing this? Thanks!

As I heard, Nokia will only launch windows mobile...
Let me quote:
Nokia has been frantically rejecting the possibility of putting Android on its smartphones, but this might change if Windows Phone 8 fails to gain traction.

Doubt windows 8. Windows RT... maybe...
Someone would need to port ROM from existing samsung win RT tablets...
Not even sure if its possible. Hopefully others who know more can tell on feasibility.

Please!!!
That would be so sweeeeet...
The best from both worlds

I do not thing you will be able to install Windows 8 though RT version is made for ARM processors so should be possible may be some day some expert will manage as for you to install it you need the drivers to the hardware inside
Where this is clearly possible I think you will find the windows RT software licence will not allow any kind of porting to other devices, as such DEV would quite rightly not be permitted on XDA.
Windows rt was ported to htc hd2 a 3 years old device, so it should be possible

i cant see this going anywhere due to licencing issues, the project will certainly have very limited exposure on here for good reasons. I'd certaintly install it though if it did come to pass.
Should definitely be possible, just a matter of time..
It should be possible, but the question is why would I do that Windows 8 has not got great reviews
There is great hope for an Ubuntu 12.10 port (native) witch is far greater then win 8 rt ! (win 8 (not rt) it is impossible to port do to different cpu architecture)

Possible if they are using same proccesor. Just need sometime
Sorry if I rain on your parade and I go upstream.........
Which is the point of replacing Android, which is THE BEST when it comes to touchscreen tablets, with the crappiest operating system called "Windows 8"?????''
You should know Microsoft is definitely going to the dogs with this new OS - they swore to us this W would be a revolution and it's a Vista replication instead - increasingly slow and complicated. I bought W8 in November and I've had it updated once a day for two months - minor o major bugs, I don't know but certainly it drives me up the wall, the more updated, the slower.
I thought it wouldn't be as brilliant as Microsoft reckoned, but I wonder how an OS could have a minimum number of downsides in order to be considered just an "improvement".... ****!
So I've got to get a N8000 to fix my mobility issues - the app collection really sorted out everthing to me - and now I should think about a W8-working N8000......... sorry......... what the ****'s that???
I agree

Thank you
Asus releasing a tegra 3 quad core tablet that runs full Windows 8 when docked and gives user choice of Win8 or Android 4.1 when detached as a tablet. So there is compatibility.

[Q] Huawei Ascend G300 and Windows Phone

Hi to all,
several months I did not look for anything on the xda-developers because I bought new Windows Phone 7 device (HTC 7 Trophy) and it still works very good. Xda-developers web was very helpful for me when I owned old HP Ipaq 614c and here was many of great ROMs for that device. So now I have this question:
What is happend with xda-developers.com? I can not find nothing here. I do not understand the new phone operating systems and the way how to "hack" them. But now I am looking for the appropriate ROM for my device and nothing was found I bought new Huawei Ascend G300 and I want to replace Android on it with Windows Phone operating system. Is there any way how to get Windows Phone working on that device? I found only some youtube video where somebody has Ascend G300 with WP8.
GeogrX
PS: I hope you understand me even though my english is not very good
Sadly there isn't any real wp8 available for any android phone. The YouTube ones may be using themes. You can download launcher 8 from playstore to feel wp8 on android

**** the any louncher. I think that I should to work with android until my Windows Phone will be back from authorized service. I broked the display on it. But I have to say that Microsoft build very good system. More better than android. Stability and working with WP is more simple than with android. In compare with Windows mobile 6.x it differ in that we can not try various custom rom as easy like on older phones. Only HTC HD2 looks like universal device which can work under MS systems and android. Thats bad...

What are the limitations/obstacles from installing windows PHONE 8.1 OS on my note 3

Hey everyone. I was thinking about this today.
I personally see the mobile phone/ tablet market going the PC route. you can install any operating system providing its compatable with the CPU and the hardware can run it.
That got me thinking. lets say for a minute Microsoft sold a copy of Windows phone O/S and you flashed it via Odin or some other way.
What would be the limiting factors? is it possible?
Its not only about the CPU, What about everything? you will break many stuff.
it would be a good idea to have windows 8.1 in note 3 if the windows phone os gets updated !
It would be a much better idea to buy a Lumia if you want WP 8.1......
1. Lol
2. Not gonna happen. Ever
3. You can't just install an OS like you would on a PC. Windows is windows, closed source, no device binaries for the hardware.

Dont even want Win8 on my pc, let alone on my phone.
Android is so much better, than all the others. So NO i'll fight this idea, with all my power (but that ain't much). :silly:
If it were a linux distro you were talkin about i'd say yes...
I think by the way samsung drive there TouchWiz android we will be like windows even Google courage people to root and miss with it's s branded phone's and nexus branch getting Ubuntu phone and maybe Firefox os I think In the future we will buy just the hardware and load whatever os you wish like DOS shipped laptop's
And regarding hardware I think even the Nokia lumia don't have hardware like our SGN3 so why not
In the end we will get all open source to drive the tech

Why would you want windows phone? Windows is good as a PC OS, but not as a phone OS.

It may be the same SoC but the motherboard , camera, screen, many other things are different which means it wont work and windows is closed source, it cant be ported.
Shame .
I like Windows but since there is hardly any choice of phones no wonder it goes down .
Thanks for answer.
