im trying to unlock the bootloader.
i reach the part where all i have to do is press the vol up button to unlock the bootloader....but it does not work.
i can press the vol down button to cancel tho.
no other buttons work in the screen therefore leaving me unable to unlock the bootloader, any suggestions?

Hi,
I'm new to Android. I'm checking out the CyanogenMod guide and it says:
If the Bootloader on the Nexus S has already been unlocked, you may skip this section.
.. how do I check if my nexus comes unlocked or not?
Thanks
Power off the phone hold and continue to hold the volume up button and press the power button. Use the volume keys to toggle down till recovery lights green. Press power buttom. If you see the custom recovery titled: Clockworkmod then it has been unlocked. Or the other method to bypass this has been done.
Or more simply if you are the first owner of the device and are new to android you don't have a unlocked bootloader because you have not done the precess needed to root the device.

Ummm your bootloader can be unlocked without changing recovery.
Just turn the phone off. Hold volume up and power, this will get you into bootloader mode.
Look for lock state. It'll say either unlocked or locked.
If its unlocked, you'll see a lock under Google upon turning the phone on
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA Premium App
I suppose someone should add that unlocking the bootloader while simple enough in comparison to other devices, will erase the internal SD of the phone so make a backup if you have anything you don't want to lose
It is possible to root the nexus s without unlocking the bootloader thus not losing data. I did the oem unlock on one device and the non oem unlock on another. There is a thread for it in the sticky.
Hi has anyone managed to access the bootloader menu with the hw button method??
I have attempted and it doesnt work? :/
It does work, but there is a trick: make sure you do not maintain the power button pressed (but keep volume down pressed). If you keep both buttons pressed, the tablet will not enter the bootloader.

Thanks! Very quick reply too, i will give this a go when i arrive home, I think holding power button too long may be the issue as I see a blank screen as if it is to enter the bootloader menu just before it shows the nvidia android bootlogo
EDIT: Problem solved, successfully mamaged to access bootloader menu, thank you
Other than buying a replacement volume button, does anyone know of a way to push the volume button without the button itself? I want to do a hard reset because I can't remember the PIN to unlock the phone. Afterwards, I'd need to flash a stock ROM & root it again.
Thanks
After unlocking bootloader
i found that i just pressed power button only once (not longpress)
it turn on
before unlock bootloader
i pressed power button long time and it finally turn on
how can i fix it??
it's really annoying
Power button on my Pixel 2 is broken and I need to lock the bootloader before I send it back. How can I do that without needing to press the power button?
I would imagine using adb reboot bootloader but thats just me
