XDA and Honor - Honor 8 Questions & Answers

Does anyone have a list of XDA developers participating in the Honor/XDA partnership? I would love to know that the project has been taken up. It's a huge deal to see another OEM have development.

I don't think there is any yet.
There is a slow way to do this:
1. Go to http://forum.xda-developers.com/Honor , this link will display all Honor devices fourms
2. Check one by one in ROM section to find out...
But this will not include those without a dedicated forum, like Honor 4x.

I‘m a fans of Huawei, my first smart phone is Huawei G510, at that time I don't have to much money. And now I'm using Honor 6, and I think some days later, I wil buy Honor 8 or P9.

Honor 8 is a decent phone, actually all HUAWEI 2015 and later phones are good ones. But the only issue now with HUAWEI is its own Kirin processer which has no open source/proper documentation. This closes doors to most developers and cut users from future upgrades if HUAWEI ceases to provde system update.

The new Honor + XDA partnership is exactly to address that limitation that other brands have - So developers can have full support to create ROMs

Questions like this should be asked in GENERAL or Q & A thread..........not on development

Even i can post that LOLLIPOP wil arrive later this month for Honor 6,dont believe in anything, they are just fake......we have got so much messages like this, even if the lOLLIPOP releases it will be first only available to china models & we(H60-L04) will be left over.....So probably its better not to grow thoughts....... That's why i bought the best of the Honor's series : H60-L12.
It's Unicom = more updates
It's 32GB = more internal storage
It's dual sim = very very nice feature
It has NFC
And i never had any lag any problem any strange reebot yet (i bought it in 25 november!!)
So, i think i will see LOLLIPOP first, like H60-L02

Yes you can but I guess that you are not Huawei's employee. That Finnsih website got their source from Huawei itself. Another Finnish website has reported the same also.
In English (my own translation):
According to the information which TaskuMuro got from Huawei says that company's top devices will get their Android 5.0 Lollipop updates in Finland at Q2 of next year (meaning 2015). The update comes atleast for Honor 6, Ascend P7 and Mate 7 models.
huawai is under pressure.. if they dont upgrade to Android 5.0 .. lots of people wont buy any honor phones again..
I think this thread needs to be closed because we already have another thread asking for the same thing and nobody has an answer because Huawei hasn't released any dates yet.

Guys. I have contacted them and per their response, they are planning to release a beta version this week or may 1st week. Send your IMEI of Honor 6 and your contact number to their Facebook Page (Huawei India) to get the link. This is for India only.

Never trust honor facebook account... it's managed by non technical people and all honor development is done in China. I suggest also to do not send your imei to anyone ...it's unsafe! Lollipop for honor 6 will be in beta in june... That what is written on the Chinese emui page which is the only real source for honor technical information.

It seems that Android N won't come to Honor 6 and 6 plus. Is it true ?

Since Honor 6 and 6 plus are running on Kirin 920, 925 which doesn't support Vulcan API, it seems that it can't be updated to Nougat.
Will Honor provide it by any alternate means, if any?
Got it from Wiki that Kirin 920 and 925 won't support Vulcan API. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vulkan_(API)
most probably it wont get as the gpu fails to be compatible with vulkan
I don't think so
Personally,I think google must remove vulcan api as requirement for update. Its like:
''Your phone has the power to handle the next at least 3 android versions, but since your gpu doesnt support vulcan api, which practically has nothing to do with running the os,fock off.''
I also think that 2 versions forward update thing should be broken,I mean we have ultra fast device with 3gb ram,it just doesnt make sense to get stuck on marshmallow, when some phones which are much weaker than our will get nougat.I even got the phone in the end of july...
Meanwhile apple bricking iphone 5 with ios 10.

Yes indeed. The 2014 generation flagships finished the progress that the 2013 ones started, what I mean is that they are still running on almost full speed as on their launch, older flagships(galaxy s3 is a perfect example) started to get pretty laggy at some point. If vulcan api is the thing that stopped the breaking of the 2 versions forward update scheme,I hope that at least the 2015 gen ones will do it when android 8 comes out.

We can't do anything for betrayal by OEM.. But in this case, OEM do think to provide updates. Due to google restriction, they were unable to.

Cant huawei just release updated drivers and source so devs would be able to build 7.0 themselves? It seems more realistic than a whole new official update.

They already distributed source code some time ago. But no Vulkan support, no Nougat update.

I think Bangladesh & Nepal too. Sri Lanka anyway doesn't get the Honor brand much the Honor 5X came as Huawei GR5 a with a Kirin processor instead of snapdragon 616.
Honor 6X = Huawei Mate 9 Lite.
I don't mind the brand, I just want this one fast (in the Netherlands).

Huawei and Honor both have different strategy, even though honor is sub brand of Huawei. I have asked this same question to honor president in carnival and got a detailed response on this that cleared the doubts. There is good amount of difference as well in their pricing.
Huawei- higher cost, premium series phones, mostly in house Kirin processor, high end camera with their partnership with lieca
Honor- budget segment mostly (apart from Honor 8 and Magic)with mixup of Kirin and snapdragon processors, started shifting to high end and dual cameras in Honor 8, Magic..

Android 9.0 Pie Update for Vivo Nex

So, Android Pie 9.0 is released today, and the update will be available today for Google phones as well as essential phone.
Anyone who has used Vivo phones in past has any idea how much time does Vivo take to release the new version to their devices? Eagerly waiting to taste a new Android and hoping that Vivo cuts down the Extravagant iOS-ish UI and goes for much cleaner, stock UI.
Could take 3-4months at the minimum .
Starting today, an over-the-air update to Android 9 will begin rolling out to Pixel phones. And devices that participated in the Beta program from Sony Mobile, Xiaomi, HMD Global, Oppo, Vivo, OnePlus and Essential, as well as all qualifying Android One devices, will receive this update by the end of this fall.

Huawei delists the Mate 20 X and Mate 20 Pro from its security update schedule
Embattled smartphone makers Huawei has now removed the Mate 20 series from its security update schedule, in a move that mirrors what happened with the Mate 10 series a year ago. The phones include the Mate 20, Mate 20 Pro, Mate 20 RS, and Mate 20 X.

ouch... thats harsh, i would have at least expected one more year of security updates only, without major android updates. harsh especially since EMUI 11 isnt even out of Beta status yet...
edit: hold on a sec, we're still gonna get updates, just not regular ones anymore!
quote - "If the Mate 10 series is any indication, this doesn't mean that Huawei will stop sending updates to the phones entirely. They'll likely still receive patches; regularly for some time, then slowly afterwards—over the course of this year, at least."
ok, this i can live with, way more smooth than just going cold turkey

So do we think the Mate 20 X will ever get anymore updates after the EMUI 11 update?
Major updates no. So no EMUI 12 or whatever it will be called.
However, Security updates will still come most likely.
