I initially bought this tablet early 2015 (or late 2014, can't really remember). I had watched many videos and read many reviews that agreed with its 'ultimate tablet for gamers' branding. When it is loaded up inside a game the Tegra K1 really shines, and it delivers amazing gaming performance. Outside of games, for me anyway it is ridiculously slow. I have had this issue since day one on android 4.x.x. I patiently waited for updates hoping they would fix my problems but they never did. Many months of waiting and 2 full android releases later, I have decided to post. This tablet =, when it feels like it is a very snappy device. However 99% of the time it doesn't 'feel like it'. often just turning on the display when the device is locked takes multiple attempts and takes a good 10-15 seconds. Then I have to wait for the home screen to load in. First the status bar and wall paper. Then the Icons pop up a few seconds later. For the first few seconds navigating the home screen is near impossible with it lagging so much. It speeds up after a random amount of time. Then for example I go to open chrome. It once again slows right down and it takes a good 20 seconds for chrome to fully load. Then when I try to type something the keyboard lags. (Much in the same way as my iPhone 4s on iOS 9). It sometimes speeds back up but it is never 'fast'. Youtube is a strange one. Often it works fine other times even 480p video skips and lags. My internet is 150MBPS so it isn't that (And i can watch 4k youtube on my PC just fine). Sometimes the device just straight refuses to do anything and the only option is a hard reset. I have had two tablets now (Recall) and both behave the exact same way. That makes me think it must be much more widespread than just me. I have tried everything. Reflashing, Custom ROMS, flashing older versions. Does anyone have anything that may help me. Im half considering dumping the thing and picking up a second hand iPad which ideally I don't want to do. Anyway, sorry for the long post and thank you in advance.

Same experience over here. The Wi-Fi sucks no matter what. A custom Rom help stop the bleeding, but w/ everyday tasks it's pathetic. How that's possible is beyond me, but honestly I thought my Nexus 7 2013 was, and still is faster. This tablet is a big let down to me, so I'm looking for a replacement as well. Waiting to see if Sammy is going to release anything soon before I go down iPad mini route...

Yes, I've heard about MM, which is rather a downgrade in terms of performance. Thus I stick with Lollipop.
I'm not an expert but you certainly can change back to Lollipop. All you'd need is an image of stock lollipop and some tools.
XDA should have all the tools.

What is **disabling journaling**?
Just got the K1 (brand new) and it came with 6.0.1 installed - only the July security update was pending installation.
All setup and running super quick...
Not sure what's up with yours?
I did read when upgrading from LP to MM you should do a Factory Reset after else it lags like hell. Tried that?
Also - as with all Android new installs - don't "restore settings" when setting up. It seems to slow the device down massively. Had the same issue with my Nexus 5x. Setup as brand new, no importing, and it flies.
Because its crap? These Nvidia CPU's are pants compared to Qualcomm. They overheat without you actually doing anything with them, stall regularly just because you dared to lift up the device, and generally run slow. Benchmarks may suggest otherwise, but benchmarks are real life usage.

I can only speak from my own experiences. I have been using my A700 a lot over the past couple of months, and I have never had any over heating issues.
Perhaps there may have been a bad batch with heat problems? Maybe others who have had heat issues can comment.
I think it is device dependent. When running a benchmark or game for am extended period (20-30 minutes) mine gets too hot and reboots every time.
My friends', however, running exact same rom doesn't have that problem.
So I find it pretty hard to recommend this over, say, a nexus 10.
Sent from my LG-E970 using Tapatalk 2
I had the rebooting issue when I first received the tablet, but after the first or second official update, the overheating/rebooting issue went away completely. Now I run the Iconian 2.6 ROM with overclocked kernel, with this combo I get faster overall speeds and although it gets hot on the right side while gaming, I still haven't had the thing reboot on me. That being said though, the tablet is not as fast as the Nexus 10, but can be bought for much less than the Nexus 10. So its a matter of cost versus performance really. If your not going to be gaming too much then the Acer is the way to go as long as you can get it cheap.
Thanks
I am not going to be gaming too mush. Mainly for Video and Web.

When I turn on my tablet and the wi-fi is on there are usually apps that need updating. When apps are downloading the tablet slows to a crawl. If I'm reading I can hardly turn the pages! If I swipe to turn a page it's like 10 seconds. Is there something specific to look at that would bring the tablet to it's knees when it's downloading anything over wi-fi? When wi-fi is off it's just fine as far as flipping around to different things but kinda useless to not have wi-fi on. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Yes, stock everything. I had a feeling it was I/O because it's the worst during the download of the new app vs the actual installation of it. I know it's not the hardware limit because it never used to be this way before the last big update (months ago). Do others see the tablet lag so bad when downloading app updates?

Unfortunately, yes and most users using stock have this lag issue. Some have more than others... If you don't a lot of apps to install, you could try to do a factory reset and hope that it would help..
Also, you could try to clear all the memory from the apps or games that you don't use any more to give a little more reserved memory when you need them. You could also disable all the unused apps and games so you can reduce some cpu resource and memory during heavy usages..
Good luck..:fingers-crossed:
The easy solution is to disable auto-updating in the Play Store settings. I hate it anyway if my tools are doing stuff on their own schedule! I'm the boss here! I tell 'em when to update! LOL

Ya, I suppose that's probably the best thing to do since I didn't really want to go with a custom ROM. Then once in a while just turn it on and let it do all the updates. Strange how folks talk about how much better it is with a custom ROM. This implies that the problems are in software and can be fixed by software. Why doesn't Asus address these obvious problems? You'd think if something is so much better on their tablets, they would take a look at it and put the "fix" in their software.

You don't even have to turn it on. You still get notifications about updates waiting. They just don't install right away. Just go to the Play Store and hit 'Update All' - go have coffee. This has the added benefit that you can choose which apps to update. I'm still on the old Google Maps for example and will stay there until they bring "my Maps" back.
The speed and smoothness is a mix of software tweaks to deal with the slow memory of this tablet. The lag many users have is really due to cheap memory! I am currently running a really stripped down version of the Asus firmware called miniCromi-x on a fast class 10 SD card, and this thing flies! Best Quadrant score was 6900, most times I get between 6200 - 6500.

You're going to get a different answer from everyone who responds. I'm really happy with it for the most part, except that Google + and Chrome will randomly start running really aggressively in the background and killing my battery. It doesn't happen often, and a reboot seems to fix it, but it's definitely a problem I've noticed.

I've only noticed it since the 4.4.2 update, and I'm just running stock rooted. Maybe it's just me though because I haven't seen anyone else mention this specific issue. In any case, it doesn't detract from my enjoyment of the phone. It's still the best device I've ever owned.
I personally think 4.4.2 ruined the battery
Team Nexus 5 sucks
^really bad? Like S3 rooted battery problem bad?
Never owned an s3 but this battery life is bad because I rely on it in my business. I literally have to carry a backup phone since the nexus 5 's battery is non removable
Team Nexus 5 sucks
They'll release a fix soon though, this problem won't be overlooked by Google by the looks of it. A lot of people are complaining on Product forums at Google.
They will but it's taking so long. I've had problems with this phone since early November
Yeah, can I get away with it by NOT installing 4.4.2 and just install 4.4.1? since 4.4.2 has problems?
I think you'll find the majority of users are happy with their N5s. I find the phone to be a superb device. I'm stock unrooted 4.4.2 and have no issues whatsoever. Battery life is perfectly acceptable, I regularly go 2 days with 3½ hours SOT a charge, obviously more SOT if using the device more heavily in a shorter time frame.
If you read available threads you should be able to find all the info you want, and you'll see dicecuber is always complaining about how the N5 sucks and how much better Galaxy devices are. Most of us still can't figure out why he kept the N5.

Great phone, well worth the $350. No lag whatsoever and just buttery smooth. If u like pure android without laggy touch wiz or sense, then this is the phone for u. Camera is very decent, not the best but very acceptable. Battery life seems a little worse on 4.4.2 but still able to get a days use out of it. I have a screenshot of my n5 going 5 days and 6 hrs off the charger, with light usage of course.
Overall its a great phone. For that price, it can't be beat.

Half the fun of owning a phone these days is complaining about short battery life on xda. The other half is trying to fix it. You can install all sorts of utility apps, flash custom roms and kernels, tweak this and that, and then go on one of the dedicated threads and talk all about it. It becomes like a hobby.
That being said, I agree that there will be better battery life on the next KitKat. In the meantime, get an N5 and join in the fun! The phone is awesome.

That's a perfect fix if you don't use either of those apps. If you do, not so much. I'm looking into options to ditch Chrome, and after finding Dolphin to be really fast but crash-tastic as ever, Firefox seems to be working out pretty well. It might be a decent Chrome replacement.
As far as Google+, I'd rather not disable it because I use the Photos app quite a bit. If worse comes to worse, I might have to do it though.

Hey
I just won a Galaxy Note Pro 12.2 White 32gb last week, i've been playing around with it a bit and i've found that it is incredibly slow, slower than my ASUS Transformer TF300T. And i was expecting a monster of a machine with the specifications in the Note Pro.
There are delays in just navigating the menu, sliding down the menu thing from the top. Typing on the keyboard, i can write on word and keep writing and it freezes and then my last word pop up (sorry for bad explaining, hopefully you understand). Scrolling up and down on a website in Chrome, it can just freeze for a few secs. Opening some apps from me tapping the app to it opening can be delayed like 6-8 seconds or something. Also have slow problems when i'm using Perfect Viewer for reading comics, flipping a page can sometimes delay for seconds.
Never had any of these issues on my ASUS Transformers TF300T
Also have some issues with the pen when playing around in the Sketchbook Galaxy app, if i lift the pen away from the screen and then put it back, it doesnt identify the pen close to fast, it takes a long while.
I would be more pissed if i payed for it, still pretty bummed though even if i won it.
I will be super grateful for any help i can get
I made a video, but i cant link it here, maybe i can link it in a PM if somebody wants to help?

No delays here either. All stock. Maybe something is downloading to cause that slowness. Look in upper left corner for moving arrows. If you see one moving then something is downloading and you can see what that is by swiping from the top of the screen.

You can download the firmware files at http://www.sammobile.com/firmware and enter SM-P900 in the search box. The file you want depends on your region. If from USA, then Cellular South is the one you want.

Should all the files be deleted after this re-flashing is done? If so, then i must have done it wrong, all my apps and everything is still there and it is still slow. I followed the guide and got the "PASS" in Odin.

Here's a video showing some of the slow issues i'm talking about
EDIT:
Has anyone heard of this problem with the Galaxy Note 12.2? Slow as f*** right out of the box? So infuriating
Seems like a collection of issues. First thing I'd do is get rid of the task killer application. IMO kit kat manages memory just fine. A better way to go is to use greenify to keep less frequently used applications hibernated so that frequently used ones will be cached. When I set up my devices after rooting I'll freeze things I'll never use and then I'll watch a system monitor application for things that load in the background. Anything that loads in the background that I don't want to use frequently (and don't need to keep alive for notifications) I'll consider for greenifying.
For the perfect viewer issue, where are the files? Is that memory latency? Kind of seems like it. Agree though, usually should run better than that.
I have to admit the first thing I thought was that perhaps you have a big SD card installed with a lot of media and the media server process is running and showing things down.
IMO in general out of the box these things are laggy but with some tweaks things improve a lot. The lag is subjective, some aren't bothered by it but for those of us who are it's a big nuisance.

The issues im having were present right out of the box, i installed the task killer to see if that would help, i dont have the task killer application anymore after i reset it again - still the same problems.
Is Android 4.4.2 the latest version available for Galaxy Note Pro 12.2?
Only other thing that could be the problem is hardware i suppose, but what kind of problem? that would make the device soooo slow.
You still need to do a factory reset after you reflash the stock rom with Odin.

After seeing this video, I'm a little out off about buying a g6
http://youtu.be/hUw9PUlFUF0
I currently have a iPhone 6 plus and in sick of its 1gb of ram and it having to reload / refresh apps when multitasking. If I have two browser tabs opened and then go to Facebook then back to one of my browser tabs it has to reload that page then if I go back to Facebook it had to reload Facebook. After dealing with this for a few months, I've decided I'm going back to android. I need more ram and fast multitasking. Was going to go with the s6 but also thinking about the lg g4.
I'm on Verizon. I was very tempted to get a nexus 6 but that phone has been out for a little already and I don't want to be stuck with a phone for 2 years Abd not get the most latest processor and other hardware.
Does this issue that was shown in the video still happening to the s6? I've read that lollipop had a memory leak issue so not sure if all phones have this issue or some do some don't. Being that the m9 in the video was not having any issues relaunching many apps without having to be reloaded
lmk what you guys are experiencing. Also if you would recommend waiting for the G4 to come out next week or just get the nexus 6 (I love stock android and soft nav keys )
S6 still has this problem and its extremely aggressive. Its very annoying. Im upset an update has yet to be released

Is it just with this phone. Would the nexus 6 or the new lg G4 have this problem?

Make sure you mention an upgrade hasn't been pushed for Verizon... Every other carrier have pushed at at least one update already...

Sounds like normal Verizon at its best
I'm thinking I'm just going to go with the G4. It has the android nav keys and is the same size as my iPhone 6plus so I won't be loosing my screen size
The nexus 6 is nice but worried about the battery life on it and I was messing with it and is a bit to wide.
Honestlt I hadnt heard that other variants have already had an update. Did it fix the Ram usage?

You will be losing screen size due to on screen buttons. I know most people like them but I don't understand why.

i dont care that i loose a little vertical screen space. not a huge issue and with custom roms, you can resize how big the nav keys if you like.
as for the ram issue, the thing you have to look at is the recent apps that were open. say you opened chrome, then youtube, then messages, then facebook, then twitter, in that order chrome was the first then opened. with low ram devices the first app that was opened, when you run out of ram, the os will just clear out the oldest (first app that was opened) to make room for current apps. but with 3gb's of ram, you should be able to have many different things stay open or where you left off in the background. so for high ram phones. if you went back to chrome, the app it self, should not have to reload and as well as the content (tabs) should not have to be refreshed. this is more noticable with games. if you open a game and its not at the pause screen or where you left it, then the game was automatically shut down to recover ram.
so with that video i posted. the first time he opens apps was just to see how long it took the phones to open those set apps. the thing you have to look for is when he goes back and opens those same apps in the same order. you will see that on the GS6, almost every app had to reload. while the M9, each app was right where it was when it was last used.
I've decided to just go with the nexus 6. my bud has one and he let me **** with it for a while today. he has liquid smooth rom on it and its just amazing. nice and fast, not ram issues. on android 5.1.1 and ill have first dibs on android M (dev previews and full release) when that's out
