If you don't get OTA, use smart switch or odin. Smart switch is better. It could automatically decides which firmware is the most suitable for the phone. All you need is model number and serial number.

When I say update is like update a dead rom, like XtreStoLite ^^' not an official one. Thanks for your answer anyway

If you are already on a custom rom then most likely you have a custom recovery such as twrp. You can download a rom put it on storage and flash. I always do a full wipe when going from one rom to another (this is essentially a factory reset, so you will lose settings and apps/messages amd so on) but you can do a dirty flash where you don't need to wipe but there are possibilities of issues occurring. If you are on a 5.1.1 rom and whish to flash a 6.0.1 rom then make sure you update your bootloader to a 6.0.1 one.

The point here isn't to change rom by update. I have XtreStoLite I have modded it to be faster but the Base is old. I ask how to update the Base of a custom rom without change anything.

You would have to build the rom from scratch with updated base, as far as I know there's no other way.

How to update an Verizon one M8

Hi all
I have a verizon one m8 which runs stock 4.4.2 it is rooted, s-offed by sunshine and has TWRP recovery.
The LTE bands are open but when there is an available LTE network there are some network problems and many disconnections occur. (mainly when entering the LTE area)
I tried some various fixes but nothing worked so I want to update to a customized lollipop firmware.
I did search a -lot but didn't find what are the steps to update.
Can anyone guide or direct me please?
Huge Thanks
Parnuk
If you are just looking to update the firmware here is a link for you. If I were you I would consider a newer ROM to go along with the new firmware.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2723159
thanks!
Some more questions please :
Can my current Rom run with this newer firmware?
Will it still be rooted?
What are the chances to get bricked
To get a newer Rom, should I wipe and then install it from twrp after the firmware update?
last one: this all has nothing to do with the recovery, right?
Sorry for the nooobity, it's all so different comparing to my old SGS

Also, hit the link in my signature for more details.
Great, the latest twrp didn't work on my current firmware.
I have an older one, can I update it after the rom?

You can but the chances of something going wrong are higher. Flash TWRP with fastboot, then firmware with fastboot, then ROM with TWRP is your best bet.

Custom Rom or The official Marshmallow update?

Anyone can suggest what upgrade I should choose and which one is more stable? I want to root my phone as well so if anyone with the official Marshmallow update can give me a good reason to upgrade from 5.0.2 I'd really appreciate it.
Besides sense 7 is there anything else to look forward to in Marshmallow for HTC?
Also anyone with the Marshmallow GPE Rom or Viper M8 please share your experiences with the roms.
For the first time I'm having trouble deciding what to flash on my E8 thanks to all the devs!
I tried everything, and - offical 6.0.1 is better choise. There is best camera. They really updated drivers or libs, i don't know. Stock ROM + custom kernel it's always good. All custom ROM's here is based on older firmwares.

How did you Root and get the custom kernel (without the system write protection) on Marshmallow? Same as how you'd do it on 5.0.x?
Yes, my 6.0.1 rooted, but custom kernel not exist this time. We waiting.

Would you please explain how to root your E8 6.0.1? I prefer to get just root without installing custom recovery, so I can backup stock recovery using flashify just in case for future OTA.
i dont know about way like this. In future u can extract stock recovery from OTA package, that u gonna receive. This always works.
I've flashed supersu 2.67 via recovery.

I received OTA and installed it directly. I forgot to backup the OTA file first so I don't have a chance anymore to extract the stock recovery. I tried to downgrade to 5.02 but always failed.

don't worry, u can use future OTA's recovery to install the same OTA
Downgrading is easy. You need to flash TWRP recovery via fastboot. Do not need full root. ERASE everying. The flash lollipop RUU via external SD.

I have M8SW and it is S-ON, it currently running BinDroid ONE V1.3.0 Android 4.4.4. I'm thinking about trying marshmallow ROM but I've read that is hard to downgrade to Kitkat once the firmware has been upgraded to higher version. But you said above it is easy to downgrade, can you please provide me with the steps to downgrade from marshmallow to kitkat rom. Thanks

N920P-Downgrade from MM to Lollipop Builds?

Can I simply flash the Lollipop tar file while I am on MM stock ROM?
Is it true that I would face bootloops?
I am planning to do it since I am unable to get my hotspot working despite trying all the ways.
The reason why I am asking specifically is that because I am getting conflicting information that there is anti-roll built in PC3, however someone else mentioned that it can be rolled back.
Currently I am on PC3 build.
Yes, but flash latest Lollipop build and factory reset before doing so or full wipe with custom recovery if you are rooted.
You have to use Odin to flash back, full factory tar.

Noughat Custom Vs Official???

So i installed a custom noughat rom on my note 5. I can switch to marshmellow any time i want by twrp and my backed up marsellow rom..
But i am confused how is Flashing Android Noughat custom rom using TWRP diffrent from Flashing Noughat ROM using ODIN?
Is the diffrent just that noughat custom rom is running under marshmellow boot loader?
I am new to Android so please Explain
Am i losing any thing by not updating via OTA ???
o _ o
First off, you do not lose anything by updating through OTA except the convenience factor. The reason you can flash a Nougat ROM on your phone through twrp right now is because the Nougat ROM has a marshmellow baseband, just like your phone. Once the firmware comes out officially by Samsung and TMobile then you will need to Odin the firmware on your phone to be able to use Nougat ROMs with the nougat firmware.

I see i get it now.
I think i will stick with custom roms because i do not want to risk flashing odin.

This is something to be familiar with if you flash custom roms and own a Samsung.

Help updating my rooted device.

This is what is installed on my device: TWRP 3.0.2-3 / android 6.01 (I THINK it's a bit modified rom) / SM-G930FD
I rooted asap I bought it few years ago, I want to update to the latest Nougat version 7.0.0 (I think the 7.1.2 is not officially released, right?)
All I need is stock (slightly modified is also ok) + root and don't mind formatting it to start from the scratch.
What are my options and/or what should I do? Thanks for reading!
Flash the latest stock ROM with Odin, then root.

Thanks for the reply.
Can't the TWRP do the same thing? If I flash using the Odin, will I lose the TWRP?
You need to use Odin to flash a stock ROM which will cause you to lose root and twrp.

I recommend matching the ROM to the original carrier.

It's an international unlocked version, does it have a "carrier"? How do I find it? I'm located in Japan and imported this phone.
You can install the Samsung Phone Info app from the Play Store to find out the csc and match that to the ROM.
