So when Android 6 came out I updated my phone, it was a really bad mistake i've been encountering problems since then, always thinking of downgrading but I had problems unlocking it, today I encountered a really bad problem where notification bar won't work neither home button and lock screen... geez alright so I read lots and lots of forums about unlocking the phone (I want to install CyanogenMod) and when I got to the last step, writing in the command prompt "fastboot oem unlock MY KEY", I got the error saying I have to enable OEM Unlocking in developer options, well I dont have that! If I go to the search bar in settings and write OEM it does appear but when I touch it it sends me to Developer Options and it's not there... What can I do now?
tap 7 times on build number, then you see the developer options

Hello:
I sent my NEXUS in to SAMSUNG for a touch screen non-responsive on the left side issue. The tech stated there were no problems with my NEXUS S!
Upon turning it on, there is a padlock on the botton of the Google splash screen.
I called Samsung and the "level 3" tech said that my phone was now locked to T-mobile. I though that was BS.
Anyway what is it and, can I get it back to normal? My wife has the same phone and here does not have any problems so far.
I've attached a pic of the screen that shows the padlock. Thanks for the help.

that means your phone is unlocked as far as I know. I did my first unlocking and rooting of my nexus last night. When I went through the unlocking process, the "unlocked padlock" started to appear on my startup. If you hold "volume up" and the power button and turn the phone on. it should say unlocked on the fastboot screen...
You have unlocked the bootloader my young Jedi.

yup, unlocked bootloader.
thats not a bad thing, its a wonderful thing!
lol you rooted your phone and unlocked the bootloader. that is what that lock symbol means. did you forget, or not do this on purpose?
Thanks to all that replied!! I kinda figured that is what it was.. Like I said I didn't do it, the Samsung repair facility in Texas unlocked it. I called the Nexus S support line and the Level 3 tech said " When we reflashed your software, it locks your phone into the T-mobile network" and that was after she went down the hall and consulted with the "developers", Samsung tech support is a Joke. One day I'm gunna root this thing!
Thanks Again Guys.
And to the XDA moderator, sorry I posted in wrong section initially, rookie mistake..
Anybody know how to remove this lock symbol? How to re-lock the bootloader again?

When I go type in 'fastboot devices' or 'Adb devices' it says
"list of devices attached:" and nothing underneath it .....
I have tried updating drivers via PDAnet .... still nothing.
the drivers I have are 'ADB interface'.
Am I missing drivers specific for bootloader or something??
Basically, the phone wouldnt restore or factory reset, so I decided to root it? so I found a new '1 click root and recovery'.
Once I run the script, it unlocked bootloader and also reset my phone which worked great. Only thing I want to do now is remove the open padlock icon on the google screen (which I think is by re-locking bootloader) but when I put in the typical 'fastboot oem lock' nothing happens .....
Much appreciate the help, thanks.
You got to remove everything "custom" (cwm recovery, user roms etc) from the device before you can lock the bootloader again.
When you are trying to lock your bootloader it doesn't do anything because your device isn't correctly recognized by windows, this is prolly due to missing/wrong drivers (try uninstalling old ones and then follow the unlockr guide to rooting your phone/installing adb, http://theunlockr.com/2009/10/06/how-to-set-up-adb-usb-drivers-for-android-devices/).

are you positive sure that i can't lock my bootloader with customs kernels, roms or recoveries? i don't think that's entirely true!

what is your phone 4g or gsm?!
Hey there. I'm new here, and to be honest, I'm new to the world of smart phones. The 4xHD is my first smartphone and I've had it for about a year now. I've noticed that it performs really badly on the 4.1.2 JB so I've decided to root it, unlock the bootloader, flash cwm and get a Cyanogenmod 10.1.3 up and running on it.
Long story short, I've rooted my phone and followed this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2245836 thread to unlock the bootloader but it didn't really go as planned. I did the things in the cmd app on the phone, and did the first line of cmd on my lap top (adb reboot bootloader) and when I wanted to do the second line (fastboot oem unlock) the cmd said it was waiting for the device. I waited for 5 minutes and nothing was happening on the device. It was stuck on the LG screen (not the one with flashing lights, just the logo screen). I pulled out the USB and pressed volume down and the power button just in case. Then I pulled out the battery, turned on my phone and went to the 3845#*880# secret menu to check the bootloader status. When I tapped on the bootloader unlock check thing, it said "Unlock".
So, did I just unlock the bootloader? Operation successful? Is there a possibility that I didn't unlock the bootloader in a correct way so it will brick my device when I try to flash cwm and Cyanogen?
I'm really sorry if this thread is in a wrong section or something. I searched on the xda but couldn't find the answer to my question.
Thanks in advance
EDIT: I'd also like to mention that in no part have I encountered the screen which said "you're about to unlock your bootloader, warranty voiding, blah blah blah, are you sure you want to proceed"
Hey all,
So Ive tried to unlock my bootloader but its not working, ive followed the steps from this site to unlock it but its stuck on the unlock bootloader screen. I have two options to choose from yes or no I click yes but it doesnt work, yet I click no and it takes me back to choose from fastboot, recovery and normal. My phone is a Alcatel Pixi 4.
I have enabled developer mode enabled usb debugging. I also have confirmed the RSA fingerprint for the computer. Also I have enabled OEM unlock in dev settings. This is what my cmd prompt window loooks like. I will also take a photo of my alcatel frozen on bootloader screen.

C:\Users\Dan\AppData\Local\Android\android-sdk\platform-tools>fastboot oem unlock
...
This is what my phone looks like that im stuck on.

does anyone know why this is happening or know how to fix?
Also when I reboot my phone it takes me through the setup like I've reset my phone back to factory settings.
I've researched and found out the reason its stuck is because the bootloader is locked.
Is there a way to check this? I tried adding the phone months ago but nothing seems to happen. In developer options, when I tried to "add account and device" I get a pop up "Couldn't verify". Currently the top of the Mi Unlock Status screen says "This device is locked" so I guess my attempt to request an unlock so far have not worked.
Anyone?
When you start your phone, if its bootloader is unlocked you have the word Unlocked in the center bottom of the screen with the Mi logo.

Very helpful, mine does not, so I guess my attempt to register for unlocking has failed. Anyone know what I can do?

After I ended up in a bootloop from installing a custom rom, I followed em_mih 's tutorial on unbricking the phone, and now I may have even more trouble.
The phone shows the "Poco" logo, then goes to the default recovery, where it shows in red at the bottom: "This MIUI version cannot be installed on ths device".
I tried reflashing the more recent MIUI 12 via the MiFlashTool, but it gave me an error that says that "Erase is not allowed in Lock State".
I then realise that I forgot to set it to "clean all" instead of "clean all and lock", which means the phone is now locked.
When trying to unlock the phone, it tells me to go into developer options and enable OEM Unlocking, which is not possible.
Does anyone know of a workaround, or has anyone had this problem before with the same/another device?
Thanks in advance

Download fastboot rom for your device and flash with miflash
Hi, thanks for the quick reply. Unfortunately, I can't, because the bootloader is locked, unless there is something I am missing?
After reading up a bit more, I found out about the EDL connectors on the mainboard of the phone. If I can open up the phone, disconnect the battery and short those two connections, will I be able to flash MIUI?
Did you try to flash a rom with a locked bootloader? If you did you're in deep trouble. You can only get the phone restored at a xiaomi service center.

Fixed by going into EDL mode and reflashing.
